Society can pretend that African-Americans have the same average cognitive ability as white Americans. That delusion causes many problems but it is sustainable for many people, with lots of hard work. It is causing massive problems, but that delusion is sustained so far in the public sphere.
The recent new delusion that males and females have the same average physical abilities at sports is entirely unsustainable. No matter how hard people try to believe it and how strong the pressure/censorship by the mainstream media and internet monopolies, they will not be able to sustain it generally in the public mind.
This policy change will also piss off the moms and dads of athletically-talented girls, who will now be cut out of sports achievement (since they are not excellent compared to males, with their entirely different body shapes, muscle mass, etc.). Will these parents be allowed to express their displeasure publicly, or will they be harshly censored and vindictively targeted?

And, what disturbs even more people, is that Title IX combined with the fact that men are more interested in sports results in male teams getting cut entirely.

Title IX caused a lot of men’s college sports teams to be ended, in order to throw the money at teams for girls, who don’t necessarily care about sports as much. Yes, men and women are different, but it’s just the usual US Feral Gov’t fucking with us, pay no mind.

Well, the idea of women’s sports was ind of silly to begin with. With a few exceptions: figure skating, gymnastics (well, before it became a contest with drug-addled genetically modified mutant teens), perhaps beach volleyball, horse riding and a few others.
Most other sport activities masculinize women’s bodies, and are not that great to watch anyway. Female basketball in particular is grotesque. Swimming also seems to change women’s bodies, they have strange shoulders and no breasts.
In this sense, having transgender freaks competing is just the logical extension; why masculinize female bodies, why not just get a masculine body and say “it’s a woman”? Problem solved.
It will be the same with transgender-itis: everyone gets a private dressing room; multi-tier ability levels; rules changes; more.

The last time I was in an airport the university of Iowa girls field hockey team walked by me. The were all sub 5’5” and +150 lbs. They were all short, fat, snot nosed, and pimply faced. They all resembled 14 year olds even though I’m sure they must have been 18-21. There was no intensity or focus in their demeanor, it was just a giggling gaggle of plump juvenile females. Which is fine, but when you start reconciling that with the reality of what you’re seeing it starts to seem ridiculous. Their parents are paying tens of thousands of dollars for them to attend a large state school, and they’re flying around the country to play what’s essentially a children’s game. We’ve cut boys soccer & cross country for this? Something doesn’t seem quite right. You see impressive female athletes on TV, such as track runners or distance swimmers, so it’s jarring to see the reality of female athleticism up close.

I don’t know what the answer is for equalizing the opportunity for scholarships between boys & girls. I don’t claim to have the answer for that. I don’t want to disparage title 9, I understand where the proponents are coming from. But, look up the participation rates in high school sports. In general, a greater number of males are more interested in playing sports than females. Something just doesn’t feel quite right. It’s problematic, & troubling that mens cross country & soccer teams are cut for women’s field hockey teams. In most cases women’s field hockey should be a club sport.

I would say it’ll be interesting to see how far the impacts of this will go. Are there really enough guys who will do this to make a big impact? So far the numbers seem small enough that though it has ruined lots of individual female athletes dreams, it seems just that, not a systemic destruction of women’s sports.
Most MtF who are younger tend to be the effeminate type and are going on medical transition earlier and earlier so they’re unlikely to be highly competitive even if they had an interest in sport.
The marines in dresses brigade seem to mostly transition later, after the peak of athletic performance, even assuming they have an interest in competing in women’s sports.

Maybe we were all better off before girls sports became a big thing. Even playing against other girls, girl soccer and basketball players suffer way more than their share of concussions and fractures. And then there’s track where once we had sensible limits on girls’ distance events but now we tempt girls to train themselves into amenorrhea.

As players? No chance.

I am not convinced that gender segregation in sports is a good thing at the societal level. I am also not convinced that the promotion of female participation in official sports is a good thing for females, males, or for society overall.

If that is upheld, then a bunch of enterprising guys not good enough for tennis, golf, lacrosse, soccer etc scholarships should proclaim themselves women and sue if they do not get scholarships.

One objection to what you call Title IX is that it’s not a law. It’s made up by bureaucrats to mess with us. Enforcement is entirely who/whom.

Transwomen are pretty rare, they aren’t all interested in sports, and transitioning does kind of mess them up physically (ya think?), so they aren’t all going to be champions. Also, I get the impression that most of the women who participate in sports in college participate in team sports, like soccer, and in that case having a guy on your team is a plus for the other team members, not a negative. It’s only in individual sports that the problem is really obvious.
So it matters how often it happens. As long as it’s rare the wokesters can get away with demanding that we all play pretend. If it happens a lot then that becomes more difficult.

AFAIK only two amateur sports produce revenue. College football and basketball. Even here the bulk of the revenue is generated by the top (male) teams and ONLY they produce TV revenue. All of that revenue has been heavily impacted by Covid costs and restrictions. The NFL and NBA might be able to limp on without stadium revenue but the NCAA? Ohio State and Duke need those sold out stadiums and arenas both to generate the enthusiasm for and money to fund their teams ( and subsidize women’s programs).
Since sold out stadiums did not happen last year and probably won’t happen this year the future of collegiate sports has to be in doubt.University boards facing the reality of declining enrollments, reduced state budget appropriations and loss of sports revenues are going to have to decide if funding any sport that does not produce revenue can be sustained.

For those who have worked in prisons, or have friends and family who do so, you know that those places have tons of sickos who call themselves women just to mess with everybody. Not exactly. The problem is that football uses up so many scholarships (something like 80 or so) that it doesn’t leave room for many other male sports teams. So for the number of male athletes to equal the number of female athletes they end up doing away with mens gymnastics, tennis, volleyball, etc.
What that doesn’t account for is that football often actually makes money for the school, either directly or by attracting a lot of donations, whereas most of the other sports don’t.
With enough laudatory media coverage, it could turn into a preference cascade. Like Steve has written about anorexia, many of these trends are media driven. And given social media amplification these days, this could easily become “a thing.” You might even get some straight boys LARPing to get onto the girls team, into the locker room, etc.

I have always felt that if 50 percent of physicians must be women by the affirmative action laws, 50 percent of nurses must be women. Same with teachers. And auto insurance rates for 16-35 year old men should be the same.

Best thing about nurses, they have one of the toughest unions in the country. While Drs have just submitted to the insurance companies. Plus nurses can travel. Go to one of the Gulf companies and make 100K plus a year with free housing and utilities even free meals in the hospital cafeterias no taxes in the country you’re working in and lower American income taxes. Maybe the solution is to get government out of the business of micro-regulating every single aspect of our lives and let individual colleges and sports groups, etc. make their own decisions as to who they want on their teams and by what rules their sport should be governed, because they know more about their sport than the government does?
Central government control of sports and sports spending doesn’t work any better than central government control of the economy and capital spending. You end up with wild misallocations and distortions because government feedback mechanisms are slow and crude compared to market mechanisms. Resources are allocated based on political considerations rather than demand and the results are far from optimal. Even when excesses are noted, it can take years or decades to correct them because the wheels of government grind slowly.

Field hockey is no more and no less a “children’s game” than any other sport. In many parts of the world it is played by men. I suppose in the US the men’s version is mostly crowded out by ice hockey and by lacrosse.

I played baseball at a private engineering school in the late 1970’s. We were very good for our level, three guys on our roster were signed to minor league contracts. Made the NCAA D3 tournament once.
I understood, however, that as a non-revenue sport at a small university, we were absolutely at the discretion of the school’s administration to fund/support/continue our participation. The administrators could have shut down our humble little program at any time. They didn’t. I was grateful for that, baseball practice helped ease the pain of physics and calculus classes.

Running is one the best activities possible for a woman; prevents osteoporosis, makes it easier to physically bear children, and lowers the risk of various cancers.
Only a small percentage of elite female runners get amenorrhea. Elite male runners are prone to eating disorders, but it doesn’t get much press. Such is the price of being an elite athlete. Lots of elite athletes take harmful steroids too, doesn’t mean we should discourage regular people from participating in sport and striving for physical improvement and well-being.
Girls running track or cross-country on your typical high school varsity team are among the healthiest in their age groups.
Also- girls’ sports existed and were even popular long before Title 9. My great-grandmother played high school basketball in the 1920s, and my great-aunt was a competitive swimmer for her all-girls Catholic high school in the early 40s. She even traveled to surrounding states for meets, mostly with other private schools.
We’d be better off if sports were less of a “big thing” for men, too. It’s true that everything was more casual decades ago.
Generally I think sports at the youth and high school level are great, but they are problematic at the college level. Should be clubs aside from what is financially sustainable. That would probably only leave a few sports for men and women alike. Y’all overestimate the popularity of men’s sports among spectators beyond football, basketball, baseball, and track/field.

They teach 12 year olds of average intelligence how to self-administer an EpiPen.

My local HS in bond debt for new turf, all weather track, practice fields, lighting, equipment and new stands. And yet, maybe 20 guys or girls on the soccer or lacrosse teams, some of whom play both sports. Too much money and emphasis on sports and this from a father whose daughter had a full athletic scholarship offered to her. College club sports fill a need and often self fund.
Think of the rulemaking that’s going to accompany this. Will it be enough for some guy to self-ID as a girl, or will there be some blood test requirements about circulating T? Didn’t the East Germans manage to put “women” in the Olympics a time or two who were pretty iffy?

I don’t know when or if you were a coed, but when I was in college I had a girl who had literally never rowed before any level but joined the team because practically anyone could get on the women’s rowing team – it was formed solely to achieve your 50/50 Title IX split so that the successful football team could remain. Could it be that perhaps accepting the fact that as a general principle men have a more broad and more intense interest in competitive athletics is a place to start when determining where opportunities and funding should be directed? Is this such an outrageous idea to you?

Well, I have an issue with a 50/50 split that is the same problem I have with a 30/70 or a 100/0 mandated split. The best way to decide where the budget gets allocated is based on need alone. I went to a school that had boys baseball, boys basketball and nothing else. If you were a girl, you needed to go to home economics cause they didn’t play sports. Girls of my time were actually above sports. They dressed nice, went to church, and most abhorred the idea of getting all sweaty playing basketball. Tiltle 9 re-aligned school sports with the changing female paradigm of acceptable vs not for a lady. We dont talk much any more about being lady like, certainly don’t teach that very much anymore either. Not to be negative against a particular party line, but how many lady like women role models do we actually have any more. We all watched 4 years of trollops parading around being any thing but lady like. In this area, our former 1st LADY, was among a very few select female role models that if nothing else, showed a level of class and pride while being beseached on all sides. History will probably show her as a very CLASSY lady. This is all directly a result of title 9 and other mis guided policies, while good by way of intent, failing by way of unintended consequences.

Men were more interested in sports than women, so if funds were distributed fairly according to interest, naturally more would go to men’s activities. The opposite would’ve been true of music and theater. This had real-world effects, as minor men’s sports were cut to fund activities few women had interest in anyway.
Which suggest it was never about “fairness”, but social engineering, pushing women into sports. Funny, the pre-coed women’s colleges were doing a bang-up job of that already. But at coed schools, ladies would rather watch gentlemen compete.
Ironically, this cause would have a better rationale today. Our young were far less obese in 1970.
I am not a manospherian nor at all interested in sports. But most men are. Title IX applied to sports pitted women’s sports directly against men’s in a culture where a couple of men’s sports got most of the funding from colleges, and men are much more interested in playing sports.
Title IX’s forces equal funding for women’s sports. Schools were not going to lessen their support of football and basketball, so that killed a lot of men’s sports at the university level.
Education was already tilted heavily in girls’ favor. When boys do better on the SAT, they add another verbal section to help girls. Boys do better in on math tests? They teach math very badly and slowly. Absolutely no one thinks schools need to be overhauled from top to bottom to ensure that boys’ GPA equals gurls’. While it is may be a symptom of toxic masculinity, it might only be a result of natural competitiveness, being more athletic is the only thing that boys have that makes them feel not-so-inferior to girls. They have a lot of their self-esteem tied up in sports.
With pretty much every factor in college admissions favoring girls, Title IX gave women equal sports scholarship funding with men. That’s the same athletic scholarship funding spread over far fewer athletes. Given the racial difference x sex difference in sports, most of those football and basketball scholarships are not open to white boys. Black girls don’t play sports much, maybe because of obesity, maybe their hair, I dunno. Regardless of the causes, not only are teachers biased in girls’ favor, but now sports scholarships are, too. Testing, the only remotely fair measure of ability, has been declining in popularity, and will soon be nonexistent. That is largely not the fault of either women or title IX. It can squarely be blamed on Asians testing too well, and blacks testing too poorly. It also has disproportionately hurt boys, who depend on testing to show that they are not dumb, just immature.
It’s been a long time since I was in high school, but at least back then, the girl-jock culture was not nearly as toxic as the guys’ was, so there is that in favor of pushing women’s athletics. Maybe sporty girls will have a positive influence on the jock subculture, but I think it is just as likely that the boys will turn the girls into binge-drinking, anti-intellectual bullies.
Don’t get me wrong, our obsession with sports does not speak well of men.
Reg, when my youngest daughter was in HS we hosted a girls lacrosse team from England. The team was from a private school and considered an elite team. They were terribly outmatched against our girls Most of the Brits had wooden sticks, only see those on the res in box lacrosse. They were fun to host and their favorite food, corn on the cob. Girls lacrosse is not at all like the men’s game and Native American girls don’t play lacrosse on the reservations. Honestly, I have never seen an international lax game unless we consider a team from Canada to be international. Stay safe buddy.
Alternatively, rather than paying and traveling to watch men who are likely to be obnoxious, spoiled, violent, and seething with hostility toward whites and the US play children’s games, one can head over to one’s local park and watch boys them. Or even play a sport oneself. Or enjoy the great outdoors in any number of other ways that don’t require supporting or being party to odiously Woke professional sports.

The simplest way to get equal treatment would be to just abolish womens sports entirely and have every sport be coed. But even then you’d still have funding and admissions bonus disparities between sports and different teams (varsity, junior varsity, etc) within the same sport that people could claim amount to disparate impact discrimination against women (and different classes/races/geographic areas etc).

All you have to do is look at golf. College golf scholarships are given out to women who pretty much can’t break 80. Men who don’t average 74 or 75 have no chance for a free ride and may end up as servers at Olive Garden. This is discrimination. And since golf isn’t solely about power, and women get to play from forward tees, you can’t blame this on biology or the male strength advantage.
I see Kyle’s point though – he’s writing that the Iowa Women’s Field Hockey team didn’t seem upon first blush to be a serious or high-level athletic enterprise but rather a social club arranged around travel and hitting a ball about. In such a case, is the travel part even necessary or something worth the expense if teams of a similar level of competition could probably be found within 30 miles of campus?
At least in the case of BIG10 Football, it’s a serious athletic enterprise justifying the necessity to fly the team across the Midwest to find competitive peers. You may object that BIG10 Football is too serious of an athletic enterprise (and the correlated academic exercise not serious enough), but it’s a thing that’s wholly different than what Kyle was describing. Indeed, the football programs generate excess revenue to fund other athletic programs which cannot self-fund. (Perhaps a better compromise would be directing the football revenue into academic programs).
1. Men like sports a LOT more than women. Men play more, men watch more, men spend more. Pushing for total equality in this area is just pushing some people into something they aren’t really that into, while preventing others from doing something they love.
2. Budgets are limited. There are two ways to make things equal, add more opportunities for women, or take away opportunities for men. Title IX proponents always hype the former and pretend like the latter isn’t happening.
3. Football is huge, in all aspects – popularity, number of players, and budget required – and there is no corresponding female version. This exacerbates the problem in #2 above. You have to cut a lot of men’s sports if you want to have a football team.
But the mostly feminist, mostly lesbian women that play college sports are getting their f-ed up world view forced on them, good and hard, so I guess I’ve done a 180 on the topic and, like you, I have no objection to Title IX.
The only real way to fight this is for real females to stop joining and playing College level sports.
If they did that the whole house of cards would collapse since there aren’t enough of these transgendered males to support a viable female sports team and compete between schools.

I was generally neutral, or disinterested with a beneficent attitude towards women’s soccer until the recent girl power turbo-dyke iteration of the sport/the U.S. Women’s Team. At least the girls 15 years ago were somewhat pretty, wholesome, and sporty but feminine.
Since the most recent nonsense, I’ve become an active detractor of the sport and the U.S. Women’s Team. Tasked with representing the United States in international competition, the most outspoken members made it clear that they were playing for the glory of only one half of the nation.
Only then did I find it worth mentioning the ridiculous fact that players on the team were dating/engaged to be wed to other players on the team (and players on other nations’ teams). Imagine if LeBron and KD were embroiled in a public off-again, on-again romance. What would that say about the seriousness with which NBA players treated their game?
Then, of course, it was the caterwauling about getting paid less than the U.S. Men’s team (for whom I similarly held detached disinterest) in years other than World Cup years. They were interviewed on 60 minutes or somesuch, choking out canned platitudes without much thought, and running down the men’s team to make their point.
So I got into an argument with a feminist type about it. After expressing my general disinterest, I countered to the disparate pay argument by asking what their claim was – were the U.S. Women’s team members claiming that they were better at soccer than the men? Or were they claiming that they were better at women’s soccer than the men are at men’s soccer? The actual claim is clearly the former, but stated as the latter. My solution – which I think brought the controversy to a head – was to take all of the money allocable to both national teams and pay it to the team who wins a best of three matches series. I could not find any agreement on this score.
Just look at the Scandinavian countries if you want to see how much further we can fall before there is any rebound.

First of all, they allocated far too much money on sports, especially sports that no one really cares about (e.g. female shot put) because they thought that it would bring them international prestige. Yes, E. German could only make Trabants and not Mercedes but they could beat the West in track and field. Second, some of their practices (hormones and drugs) were highly damaging to the health of their athletes.

I have a cousin who got a full athletic scholarship, very well-earned, after ears of hard work. She is a very well-rounded athlete who could excel at pretty much anything, but ultimately chose a sport that was less competitive so she could get that scholarship.
I’m not entirely convinced that’s true, though it may well be, but then even if it is true, I’m not sure that really helps your case. If it’s true that half the student body isn’t particularly interested, that just raises the question of whether disproportionate resources are devoted to ports that women don’t care for, or even nonathletic extracurriculars like band, theater, or dance.
Men’s interests and preferences don’t determine everything anymore. That you believe they should reflects your own unwarranted sense of entitlement that the world revolve around men. Apart from that, I’m not at all sure you’d like the results of a culture that sees vigorous athletic activities as a primarily masculine pursuit.

I like to play sports, but mostly individual sports like running, skating and swimming. I run, go to the rink, and go swim laps by myself but that isn’t really the same. I do confess that I would use my kids to play sports with when they young before they got good and joined teams. But I can’t think of any other moms I know who did. Mostly there are no places for women to play pick up games. The very few women who would do it can’t find the other very few women who want to. Maybe the tennis club? The closest thing would be maybe an exercise class or a bridge club. Women will workout next to strangers at the gym or exercise class or swim laps. I know bridge is not a regular physical sport, but the bridge club will give you a partner to play with, so a stranger for what amounts to like a pick up game.

I knew a very famous ballerina who had to do exercises every day of her life to avoid being in constant pain. Ballet makes your body do things it’s not designed to do.
She had a very long career, including taking a break to have children, and went back to ballet and was still at the top of her game. She’s still active today in her 80’s, though no longer dancing professionally. So there are exceptions, but in general, most ballerinas are done by their mid 20’s, if not earlier.
In the prison I worked in there was a “faith-based” wing where religious prisoners could go, and it seemed like a lot of the gender-challenged prisoners got religion once they were locked up, and opted to spend their recreational hours practicing in the choir where there was safety in numbers.

It’s rare that I agree with Jonathan Mason, but, yes, scholarships for academic achievement only.
The objection to Title IX is that it is being used to gut a bunch of men’s sports in favor of women’s sports, since most sports don’t make money at the collegiate level outside of football and men’s basketball. Those two subsidize all the rest of them, but women aren’t as interested in sports as men are, so more men’s sports have to be shelved to achieve equal participation rates between men and women, even if the unpopular men’s sports are still more popular than female sports that are being kept. This is based on the dubious assertion that men and women find collegiate sports equally interesting.
A lot of these men’s sports at smaller universities produce a lot of Olympic athletes ( or rather they did ) in sports like gymnastics and swimming have now been abolished in favor female team sports like field hockey which by definition is not going to produce a lot of Olympians from one university ( Since there is only one national team attending the Olympics ). A lot of the female students getting athletic scholarship aren’t serious about the sports anyway, but they take the scholarship for obvious reasons and a lot of men who could have a career in sports beyond college are left out in the cold because their sport isn’t football or basketball.
Last I heard the IOC won’t stop a man competing in a woman’s event as long as he can get his testosterone levels down. Doesn’t matter that he may already have developed superior height and strength before he starts playing with his hormones. As for Wimbledon, the UK is just as woke as the USA so it is only a matter of time before some man tries it.

If what you say is true this would be a good way of attacking universities, which action should be a part of any conservative populist movement. They are centers of power and influence and they belong to the enemy. I have long espoused the motto “abolish tenure”. Abolish College Football would be a good compliment to that.
As I say, it matters how often it happens. For most men this would be a hugely embarrassing thing to do, and the vast majority will never do it. They might win prize money, but they would also win the contempt of their peers, and since sports is as much about status as money that would be a big deterrent. Neither you nor I can intuit the size of the small remainder that will be willing to do such a thing, and that’s the quantity that’s important. If it’s small enough the wokesters continue to get away with it, but if it’s too big they don’t. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Hmm, I always had my best results lifting at home or at a small gym. Gym memberships are generally way too high and what you really pay for is relatively useless expensive machines that don’t work the stabilizer muscles and cause muscle imbalances. Machines are fine for older people, physically handicapped people or people healing injuries. Kettlebells are also an expensive tool that people believe is some kind of miracle breakthrough in fitness. There was a reason why kettlebells collected dust for SEVERAL decades except everywhere but Eastern Europe, they are cumbersome, wreck the wrists, elbows and forearms and dumbbells are far more practical and safer. Any kettlebell exercise can be performed with a dumbbell or dumbbells.
People, save yourself some money and buy a pair of dumbbells, weights can be as cheap as a penny or two a pound if you buy them second hand. You can do one exercise and maintain a good strength base and conditioning. Dumbbell cleans and presses/push presses work the entire body and cardiovascular system if done with enough reps and intensity. Hill sprints/runs/walking can’t be beat and burpees for are invaluable. For the elderly or out of shape, stick with just basic bodybuilding movements and IF possible by all means stay away from machines if you are able. Do compound exercises and stay away from fluff exercises that only isolate muscle groups, train your body as a single unit. Machines wreak havoc on your joints, the body is moving in an unnatural position. IF nothing else just simply walk every day or better yet swim. IF you are woefully out of shape just start off walking and build up slowly, or if you cannot do pushups do wall pushups or pushups off a table. Start slowly, small steps to the moon.

Sure enough, the data don’t support this claim. Female high school athletes are only slightly more likely than men to even compete in college, let alone get a scholarship. The exception seems to be ice hockey, where girls are indeed much more likely to advance to college play.
Here are the percentages of high school participants who go on to compete in college:
First: sports where only one gender competes:

Note that the number of football players and wrestlers combine to more than 10× the number of field hockey players. Based on that fact alone, male college athletes vastly outnumber female ones, though including cheerleaders might change that.

The PGA gets much bigger crowds and ratings than the LPGA.
The percentage of HS female field hockey players is higher than the percentage of male football players, despite the fact that no one save their families attend field hockey games, whereas I’m pretty sure college football outdraws everything sports related in the US other than professional football (NFL). Is there even a female professional hockey league? I’ve never heard of one, and I’m sure that even minor league men’s pro hockey outdraws it, there is an actual men’s professional lacrosse league, or at least there was, pre-covid19, is there a female version? I have been walking up hills and swimming laps daily in breaststroke and front crawl for the last three months, mainly with the intention of developing my lung capacity as a way of resisting covid-19 complications.
The benefits have definitely been measurable, and I have had to buy new pants in a smaller size and my general energy level and libido is much improved.
Today I will be traveling to a location that is 8000 feet above sea level, which will be the real test of the exercise regime.
One benefits of the swimming is that before I started the most recent program of exercise, my legs were extremely stiff, often to the point of being painful and now they are not stiff at all and I am much more flexible.
I definitely recommend daily swimming. At one time of my life I was swimming about half a mile a day for approximately 15 years, until I move to a place where I no longer had easy access to an exercise pool.
That led to a general loss of good health, weight gain, shoulder problems, and circulatory problems. Since resuming daily lap swimming all these have gone away.
When these decisions are taken to the ultimate conclusion, you have men like Caster Semenya, the South African athlete, who strangely is allowed to dominate the women’s track events. And the media promote his cause rabidly.

They care deeply about this issue, it’s clear. Just look at how many current celebrities and politicians are transgender, or gay or sexually far from normal in some way or another. Having done some reading of commentators much more sensible and fair-minded than your typical Unz piglet (NAUCALT), it appears that college football is causing problems with Title 9 compliance.
A simple solution: Advocates could try to get it thrown out of the calculation and compliance judged by the remaining sports.
In the alternative, insist that any female-dominated activities (such as cheerleading) be included in compliance evaluations as well. (Apparently there is some resistance to this.)

Mr. Anon, I agree. The college sportsball games, football being the biggest by a long shot, bring in BIG, BIG money into town on those 6 or 7 weekends in the fall. You are right that there are plenty of people with no degrees from the school (and I don’t fault them one bit for that nowadays) who act like this school is theirs, college football is their church, “da team” is their denomination, and the coach is their Pope. Those Saturdays are like their revival meeting weekends.
Not all, but some of these people wouldn’t have a life if (expensive) college football went away. They’d have to find new one in which the actual important things going on in their country mattered to them.

The only way this is in ANY way fair is if the rule applies ONLY to those sports in which physical size and strength do not play any part in the outcome. Skiing, bowling, ice skating, curling, billiards, and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker come immediately to mind (although billiards and card games hardly qualify as “sports” since no athletic attributes are necessary).
The rub, of course, is that there’s not a democrat in the entire country who’s interested in fairness in any way, shape, or form. Fairness, along with empathy and compassion, are seen as weaknesses among democrats, just as honesty, ethics, and morality are seen as character flaws.
I have a relative, a retired auto engineer, who spent his career working for one of the big European car makers. Economically speaking, the ratio should be “Whatever the college wants it to be.”
Politically speaking, the ratio is, “Whatever the government says it has to be to keep the funding in place.”
The point being, that intercollegiate sports ultimately exist as a marketing arm for the university to differentiate itself from other schools. If having certain teams and a certain level of funding is still a net positive for the school, then they will still fund those programs. If it suddenly “costs more” than the benefits that are accruing, then they will cease those programs.
All Title IX is is a tax on federal funding that gets added into that marketing budget. If the mandates cause those net benefits to stop accruing, then the balloon gets squeezed in a different way and changes are made to pay the tax, but at no time will colleges ever turn off the federal spigot.
Everything is a cost-benefit analysis and just like any government regulation, scholarship limits never “create” opportunities, they just move them around.

I think the answer is more cynical and simpler than that. The dems don’t really care about the outcome, they just care about winning elections and holding power.
They win elections by catering to the feelings of a certain level of ignorant voter. “Look at all these people who are mean to [group]! Vote for us and we’ll stop those meanies.” Then after they are elected they maintain credibility by doing whatever it is they think needs to happen to that group.
They’ve been very successful winning elections that way over the years, so successful that they’ve had to get more and more granular and deeper and deeper into the bucket with their definition of who’s being oppressed.

I swim because I hate stretching. I am definitely no shark in the water. At 5’10” and about 195-205lbs depending on how much bread I have been eating lately, I look odd in the pool but I swim 450 yards 2-3 times a week. I try the butterfly but my big ass can’t manage that stroke but I do mix it up with the breaststroke, sidestroke and freestyle. I tried but I can’t perform the backstroke. Of course one of the worlds strongest men, Eddie Hall, looks at home in the water and he weighs over 300lbs. Hall used to be a swimmer of note before he took to the weights.
Running hills are safe as well because you can’t go fast enough to injure yourself. NEVER run downhill it will wreck your knees in the long run, either walk or jog down them backwards. You want a helluva workout? Trying jogging up a hill backwards. Try doing crab walks or bear crawls up hills as well. Do a search for various animal walks and crawl exercises, they are all on the internet. Best functional workouts a person can do for themselves and they cost nothing. I like lifting the iron, but you MUST cover every aspect of fitness like mobility which is the most important thing for a person to maintain as they age, endurance, flexibility as well as strength. And of course the lungs and heart are the most important. Hill training will take care of the legs, the heart and the lungs, believe me. Running in soft sand is also great, once I lived near some sand dunes with hills. Hardest damn thing I have ever done.

The swimming team at one university I attended was shut down because a sport where women and men train together doesn’t contribute to title IX “balance”. Guess what the alternative was? Cutting the men’s basketball team. But they were all blacks, so the predominantly white team had to go.
The Soviets always bought, licensed or stole Western technology (so did the Japanese in the early days of their car industry) but they also had plenty of native engineering talent. Some of the Soviet cars were more or less of mostly Russian design. Soviet auto manufacturers had to keep in mind the lack of repair facilities and the poor condition of Soviet roads so they tried for rugged and easy to repair.
They tended to base their styling on a pastiche of Western styling trends so a Soviet car might look vaguely like a Ford from the front and a Buick from the back and a Packard from the side. This is far from true. There is plenty of material on the internet regarding E. Bloc cars if you are interested. Sorry I had to use you as my foil. What’s my problem with Orange Theory? There’s one in the shopping center near my house, along with a Fit Pantry, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, upscale nail salon, and various other foo-foo type establishments. It’s a liberal suburban soccer mom mecca. They get out of their de rigueur Lexus SUVs and flit about in their tight, oh-so-tight yoga pants. It’s enough to drive a man crazy with…class envy? Re the weights vs. cardio thing, I’m not some jacked-up, roid-raging Gymbro, I’m just an old guy trying to maintain a little muscle mass and mobility as I ease into senior citizenhood. And I don’t think a Rascal would look good in the back of my redneck-themed pickup. I used to do a lot of cardio during my military career, but that was only so I could pass the annual Air Force fitness test, which emphasizes aerobic fitness and a small waistline over physical strength. (And we wonder why they call us the sissy service). The Army and Marines have a much more well-rounded fitness test, because they have to actually engage in strenuous physical activity. Dunno about the Navy, but my guess is that as long as they can bend over far enough, they’re OK. (Just kidding, my salty, seagoing brothers-in-arms! Besides, just like “prison rules”, “It ain’t gay if you’re underway!”).

Regarding your men’s hockey to football comparison, football both at the high school and collegiate level is popular across the country, hockey is not, most American hockey players come from either in the Northeast or the Upper Midwest or Colorado, which not coincidentally is where most of all the top collegiate programs are located. So the number of HS hockey players available is a lot less than the number of HS football players, so more get a chance to play at the collegiate level. Does Alabama or Oklahoma or USC have a men’s hockey team? I doubt it, but I’m pretty sure they have football programs.
My evidence? Do women participate in golf more than men, more in track and field? more in soccer? more in basketball? Do I see girls spontaneously taking up these sports when not in school or not under adult supervision? I’ve never seen this. Even on the rare occasions I have seen girls playing outside of school they are invariably playing with guys, not with other women, whereas I see guys playing guys in these sports in non official capacity all the time. The female participation rate in practically all of these should be lower than the men’s rate, not higher, not the same or slightly less based on interest.

I think that the confusion here may originate in the fact that such rulemaking and enforcement activities as you are discussing fall under the sphere of Administrative Law, which is distinct from Statutory Law. It is not the same, not at all, and is the root of much mischief from the left, perhaps as much as judicial “legislation from the bench”, or even more. Agencies formulate their own rules upon the basis of a legislative law and/or an executive order, and their enforcement can be quite forcefully pursued. I suspect that, to avoid that eventuality, institutions subject to these regulations often “go along to get along”, regardless of the fairness of these rules, and like all bullies, once they have their victims backing up, they like to keep them backing up. Supposedly, there are appeals possible to the judicial system, but given the extent of leftist influence in the judiciary, good luck with that if the rules’ intent seems to comport with general leftist doctrines and beliefs.

Yes and no. All administrative law purports to be an interpretation of an statute. When you challenge an administrative rule either before an Administrative Law Judge or in front of a state or federal court you are simply asking the decision maker to rule that an administrative rule or order conflicts with a statute or operates outside the scope of the statute.

A statute is a law. Administrative rules are also laws. Administrative guidelines are also laws. Judicial cases can involve binding legal opinions.
You are confusing law, which roughly means some directive that can be enforced in front of a tribunal, with its most well known variant, statutes which are created by legislative bodies and can usually only be repealed by legislative bodies.

When that happened, I just had to take a break for a few minutes and on it went as though nothing had ever happened. The smoke trail when taking off with a cold motor was sometimes spectacular. Now that you mentioned your enthusiasm for two-stroke engines, I realise that I haven’t seen one for quite a while. Motor saws seem to be their current remaining use.

Hence a French or German, English, Italian, Swedish or Japanese, or an American car have a distinct national look about them and one can see immediately what concept of proportion, size, elegance and representation of machine purpose and strength was guiding the design pen. One immediately tell where the car is coming from. That’s at least the case for the older designs. Yet with the Zil, I think I would have guessed wrong.

Don’t know about the US, but Wimbledon pays equal prize money, more than £2 million of it. So the same money for 40% less work in a three/five-setter or 33% less in a two/three set win.

I think the player would have to establish a convincing “legend” first, pretty sure say that if Jamie Murray announced tomorrow he was a woman and entered the ladies singles he’d be booed unmercifully – and the authorities, both All-England and legal, would do nothing. Before the ’60s, the Soviets tried to copy American car styling (and even licensed American technology) but from the ’60s onward they were more influenced by Italian and French design and tended to make their deals with European companies rather than the US due to Cold War embargoes. Soviet leaders (and consumers) always had a feeling that foreign was better so that even where domestic design talent existed and probably would have sufficed they preferred to make deals to license foreign designs instead. The foreign designs often had to be modified extensively to suit Soviet conditions and material availability. But the Zils were cars for the top leadership and it would not have done to have Soviet leaders riding around in a foreign designed car.
2 strokes have the advantage of simplicity – a 2 stroke engine has only a handful of moving parts vs. a 4 stroke which needs all sorts of valves and cams and springs and so on. Their main disadvantage in the modern environment is that they are highly polluting given that they burn the oil that must be mixed with the fuel. This is pretty much a deal breaker.
Aside from chainsaws and lawn edgers and such, two stroke engines still exist as the giant diesels that power ships. I mean really big – like the size of a house big. I suppose that pollution is less of an issue at sea.

Yes, but Scalia started noticing and there has been commentary, not much case law yet, about pulling it back. Again, the variant I most dislike is that described, where a decision not only expands the policy direction of the statute but does so in a way that incorporates an new and novel legal theory of law, for instance the theory that men are women. This latter situation is thankfully rare but worrisome.

I think that girls basketball in many American states up into the 1970s had rules more like Australian netball. Then they changed the rules to be the same as boys basketball and eventually lesbians took over the game.
