Perth city centre ‘It’s ok to be white’ stickers condemned
17 December 2019Scotland’s deputy first minister has condemned the appearance of stickers bearing the slogan “It’s ok to be white” in Perth city centre.
The stickers were posted on lampposts and drainpipes throughout the city at the weekend.
John Swinney, who is also MSP for Perthshire North, said the “atrocious” stickers had “no place in Perth or any other part of our country.”

Has any journalist asked someone point blank what is wrong with the message itself? It’s almost impossible to believe people are this willing to hit their knees for mercy over something that is so innocuous on its face. I guess the troll job worked, and its horrifying to see.

Consider some of the great slogans in presidential campaigns. None meant anything.
“Bridge to the 21st Century”. About as specific as forward into the future. Means what you want it to mean.
“Hope and Change”. “Make America Great Again”. Both are meaningless, both got the candidates elected. In both cases many voters were upset to find the new president didn’t mean what they wanted him to mean.
And how do you refute these? You don’t want to enter a new century? You want hopelessness? You don’t want America to be great?
The last white nationalist slogan, “anti-racist means anti-white” was terrible. Most people think of themselves as anti-racist but NOT anti-white.

Assimilation and integration will be the least of our worries. POCs are in the process of gaining the whip hand and you can be sure they will use it with a vengeance. They counted 803,309 White residents of Scotland under age 15 (born mid 1996 to mid 2011), on 854,053 total residents, putting Scotland’s youth cohort in the early 2010s at 94% full-white (and 0.9% Black, if you were wondering). This rises to 99% white for the over-60s (these would be primarily born 1920s to 1940s), and 99.6% for the oldest measured cohort, 85 and up.

I think it is the subtext. “Its Okay to be White” is not just an objectively true statement, but posting it is a public place suggests that the poster is dissatisfied with a political setup in which non-whites are perhaps favored in employment hiring, housing allocations, or educational opportunities and is trying to promote resentment.
It would be better, perhaps, to openly oppose specific policies if they are perceived to be unjust.

The “it’s okay to be white meme” took a lot of debate in alt-right circles to emerge as a successful slogan. Many people wanted to add to it, change it and otherwise ruin it. It had to explained over and over not to add things to this simple message, not to add other symbols, issues or jokes to it. Right wing people are terrible at messaging. You see that with Silver’s dumb idea of adding words that make the message sound weaker and more hesitant. We still have a long way to go in learning persuasion.
Swinney has three white children. He appears to be one of that large class of Western, white-Christian people who would never personally marry/procreate with a Muslim or etc. -- i.e., who prefer whites -- but who at the same time actively feel the need to "virtue signal" against even innocuous pro-white statements.

I am predisposed to believing “It’s OK to be white”, but I can see a couple of issues here.

If the purpose of the stickers is genuinely to get across the message “It’s OK to be white”, then no harm would be done if one in 25 of the stickers reads “It’s OK to be black” (or brown, Pakistani, whatever). Even a generous one in 4 of the stickers could carry a minority message. This would get the main message across, while making it difficult for SJWs to oppose it. Adding a rainbow icon and an anti-racist logo would make opposition even harder.
In its present form, the campaign plays out differently:
I think the SJWs imagine a false corollary, that it is not OK not to be white. Whoever posts the stickers may also get a thrill from being wrongly considered racist, and from generating outrage.
If we are honest, we must admit that a statement has more meanings than its strictly logical one. There is the famous sentence used when teaching deconstruction:

This slogan was intended to instil pride in the inhabitants of Anatolia, who were considered backward by the elite of the former Ottoman empire. However, Turkey’s Kurds saw the slogan as marginalising them.
Nowadays, “It’s OK to be black” is society’s default position. A campaign that affirms that orthodoxy while also declaring “It’s OK to be white” is much more likely to get the latter message across.

The Komnenoi were themselves the product of what you might call a reversed trend. The same swarming invasions that brought the west to its knees in the later fifth century struck the east in the seventh, in the form of the Arab invasions. But the Greeks survived. What emerged was Byzantium, a culturally and politically distinct entity, which then assumed its own historical trajectory.
The Roman empire had run its course, but the peoples in that empire had a distinct existence and remained free to develop new political forms.
We see the same thing in other cases: The Japanese had the Meiji restoration after a long period of political decline. After the early Hohenstaufens, Germany too entered a centuries-long era of dissolution only to come together again under Bismarck. Of course all hell broke loose shortly thereafter, and Germany with its EU avatar is hardly a force for good in the world — but it dominates Europe.
I agree that the West is cooked. But western peoples remain free to conceive of a new West, and what happens next depends a lot on what future political and cultural forms we can develop. Whether we can pull a Byzantium out of our Arab invasions remains to be seen. I don’t yet understand — perhaps nobody does — whether we are in a better or worse position than the seventh-century eastern empire. On the one hand, ours is a problem mainly of will. If we wanted to repel the invaders we could do so easily enough. On the other hand, maybe it is the case that problems of will are the deepest and most profound and insoluble of all.
