From The Atlantic:

Why America’s Great Crime Decline Is Over

Even before the recent mass shootings, violent crime was surging to its highest rate in 30 years. Patrick Sharkey illuminates what’s happening.

Derek Thompson
Staff writer at The Atlantic

Americans are experiencing a crime wave unlike anything we’ve seen this century. After decades of decline, shootings have surged in the past few years. In 2020, gun deaths reached their highest point in U.S. history in the midst of a pandemic. In 2021, although researchers can’t yet say anything definite about overall crime, shooting incidents appear to be on the rise in many places. …

Why crime rises and falls is a devilishly complicated question. Few people have thought more deeply about it than Patrick Sharkey, a sociologist at Princeton University. While others reach for easy solutions and simplistic slogans, Sharkey embraces complexity and uncertainty. In his 2018 book, Uneasy Peace, Sharkey argued that intensive and often aggressive policing and incarceration policies probably helped reduce crime in the past few decades, to the great benefit of low-income neighborhoods. But rather than glorify these policies, he argued that often they have involved brutal policing strategies that could provoke a backlash among the public—hence the “uneasy” nature of the peace.

This thesis has proved doubly prescient in the past year. Sharkey anticipated both the summer of anti-police protests and the possibility that souring police-civilian relations would contribute to an increase in violent crime.

This week I spoke with Sharkey about his thoughts on the 2020 crime surge. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity; statistical context from a follow-up email is in italics.

Derek Thompson: What happened last year?

Patrick Sharkey: It was a huge surge of violence, and the most violent year of the century. We went through a long period where violence was steadily falling. There was a sharp decline in the 1990s and a more gradual decline since then. But right now we are in a period of rising violence. Since 2014, there has been a gradual increase.

What happened in 2014 to end the long decline in murder? Oh, yeah, Ferguson and BLM.

And then last year was a really terrible year across the whole country.

Thompson: The subtitle of your book Uneasy Peace is The Great Crime Decline, the Renewal of City Life, and the Next War on Violence. Is it safe to say that the “great crime decline” has come to an end?

Sharkey: I would say it is very clearly paused. What remains to be seen is just how anomalous last year was. There’s a possibility that this was just a year when social life was completely destabilized in so many ways, and that resulted in a huge surge of violence that was temporary. That’s the hope.

Thompson: Where is crime rising today?

Sharkey: This is the analysis I’m doing right now. It’s always been true that violence is concentrated in a small number of communities. The current increase in crime is not evenly distributed, either. Most of the increase in violence is highly concentrated in neighborhoods that are segregated with high poverty.

In recent years, the word “segregated” has emerged as the prime euphemism for “black.” Under this usage, a 100% white community, if there are any left in modern America, is not segregated.

Many of these neighborhoods have experienced disinvestment for generations, for decades, and it has made them more vulnerable to violence.

The violence just falls from the sky onto these neighborhoods of color, which suffer from tragic dirt, but not onto integrated neighborhoods that are all white, which benefit from magic dirt.

Their public spaces have not been maintained. Their schools are underfunded.

“Underfunded” is a euphemism for “have students with low test scores.” E.g., “Washington D.C.’s underfunded schools.” Presumably, it means “underfunded relative to some theoretical amount of money, such as a gajillion dollars, that would be sufficient to raise these students’ test scores to average.”

… In research shared exclusively with The Atlantic after we spoke, Sharkey calculated that Chicago had 267 more fatal shootings in 2020 than the previous year.

Unlike The Atlantic, I came up with 274 more murders in Chicago in 2020 and in 103 other cities back on January 6 in Taki’s Magazine, which has no paywall.

… Thompson: Do we know if certain groups are suffering disproportionately from this crime increase? There have been several news reports of increased harassment and crime against Asian Americans, even before the Atlanta-area massacre. Is there anything your data can tell us about whether violence is increasing for some ethnic groups more than others?

Short answer: blacks.

Long answer: Since the Racial Reckoning was declared, blacks have been shooting people, mostly other blacks, at a high rate.

Sharkey: My work looks most closely at where crime is happening, not at individual victims. But there are some things we think we know. Intimate-partner violence increased in 2020. So did hate crimes against Asians. But the overall demographics of victims is incredibly consistent over time. It’s young people of color, particularly young men of color. I don’t see anything yet to indicate that’s changed dramatically.

It’s all those dark-skinned Tamil Brahmin young men of color shooting each other in suburban New Jersey.

Whatever you do when discussing America’s murder problem, don’t mention the bl*cks. I sort of alluded to them but I think I got away with it.

Thompson: A lot of books and stories have been written about the great crime decline in the U.S. over the past 30 years. Now that this decline seems to be on pause, I wonder how you think some of these theories hold up, or don’t.

Sharkey: So much research and journalism on violence gravitates toward single-cause explanations. And that’s just misguided. We know that violence is incredibly complex, but we consistently seek out counterintuitive explanations. Take lead exposure, for example, which was a popular single-cause explanation for the decline in crime. Look, lead matters for crime. But you can’t show graphs of how violence rises and falls within the 2010s and say this is purely explained by a change in lead exposure from 20 years ago. That’s simplistic and incorrect.

I think that Kevin Drum’s idea that The Sixties were mostly just the unfortunate byproduct of lead poisoning is a fun theory. I went to school from K-12 in Sherman Oaks, CA, home to what then was the busiest freeway interchange in the world (101-405), so if anybody knows who I can sue to get my missing IQ points back. But crime rates mostly seem to go up and down depending up what Important People want. E.g., from the early 1990s onward, Important People were sick of all the murders in New York City, so New York eventually became the least homicidal big city in America.

Thompson: I want you to help me understand the relationship between poverty and crime, as you see it. There seems to be an association between high-poverty areas and high crime. But in the past 13 years, we’ve had two significant nationwide recessions. The first downturn coincided with falling crime. The second downturn coincided with the largest increase in crime in decades. What should that teach us?

Sharkey: I’ve argued against the idea that it’s about individual economic conditions. It’s very clear that economic recessions typically do not translate into more crime.

My argument is that in areas where communities go through periods of disinvestment and where institutions break down, people feel like they’re on their own. This creates conditions where violence becomes more likely. As a place becomes more violent, people change their behavior. They become more likely to interpret uncertainty in an aggressive way, more likely to carry a weapon, more likely to act quickly or first if they feel threatened. This is how the presence of violence creates more violence. This cascading effect, where violence begets violence, has been reinforced in the past year.

Last year, everyday patterns of life broke down. Schools shut down. Young people were on their own. There was a widespread sense of a crisis and a surge in gun ownership.

What percentage of the incremental murders of 2020 were committed with legally purchased rifles? One percent?

People stopped making their way to institutions that they know and where they spend their time. That type of destabilization is what creates the conditions for violence to emerge.

Thompson: To what extent should we blame the lockdowns, specifically, for separating people from these institutions? A lot of COVID-19 restrictions effectively shut down libraries, schools, and other places. I wonder if you think this idle time was a multiplier for violence.

Should I go to the library or should I go shoot up a funeral?

What? The library is closed? But I wanted to check out the new Elena Ferrante novel!

Well, then, I guess I’m compelled to go shoot up a funeral.

Patrick Sharkey: To avoid integration, Americans built barricades in urban space

Sharkey: It’s not just idle time but disconnection. That might be the better way to talk about it. People lost connections to institutions of community life, which include school, summer jobs programs, pools, and libraries.

Definitely, the libraries.

… Thompson: We have to talk about the effect of the 2020 summer protests on the rise in violence. I can imagine agreeing with two very different arguments. There’s the left’s argument that it would be reckless to exclusively attribute the increase in violent crime to the Black Lives Matter and “Defund the police” protests, which were understandable responses to very real problems. Clearly, last year was destabilizing in so many other ways. But then there’s the more conservative, I suppose you could call it, argument that the “Defund the police” movement was substantively wrong and possibly counterproductive, because more policing, not less policing, has been commonly associated with crime reduction. What’s more, the protests may have directly contributed to a pullback in police presence in certain cities. And sudden declines in police-civilian interactions have been associated with large increases in local crime. What’s the right way to sort through these interpretations?

Sharkey: Violence surged last year after the protests. There’s no doubt about that. The important part is to interpret it.

You’re right that, in the aftermath of high-profile [police scandals], the police often pull back. They change the types of incidents they get involved in. This can be political, or it can be individual choices. But there’s a second part. Residents and community members also often step back in the aftermath of high-profile incidents when the legitimacy of police departments is questioned. The public becomes less willing to reach out to police for help and less willing to cooperate or provide information.

When a social order depends on the police dominating public spaces,

You know, come to think of it, social order kind of does depend on the politicians agents (i.e., the police) having a near monopoly on violence. When the politicians decide to not back their own hired guns, we see a lot of freelancers suddenly shooting their rivals. Funny how that works …

and that form of social order is questioned and starts to break down, it can lead to a surge in violence. It doesn’t mean that protests cause violence.

Yes, it does.

It means that when you depend on the police to dominate public spaces and they suddenly step back from that role, violence can increase.

As opposed to a superior system in which the Office of Diversity-Inclusion-Equity dominates public spaces?

Thompson: I want to make sure I understand your position here. One argument says that the crime surge followed the protests, so we can safely assume that the protests at least partly contributed to more crime. You’re saying if the crime surge is downstream from the protests, the protests are downstream from something else—an unstable social order. We have to go upstream to fix the public’s relationship with policing.

In other words, we can’t do anything about all the thousands of extra murders. Because that would be wrong.

Sharkey: That’s right. In my book I argued that the drop in violence had all these benefits, but it was unsustainable. And it was unsustainable because we were reliant on a model of responding to violence and urban inequality through brute force and punishment and dependence on prisons and the police to respond to every challenge that arises when poverty is concentrated.

So how is not relying on a model of responding to violence and urban inequality working out for you?

As long as that model is still in place, you can produce lower levels of violence. But you will also produce staggering levels of harm. That harm became very visible in the last five years and, in particular, after [the killing of] George Floyd.

It’s almost as if the dozen and a half unarmed blacks killed by police per year were a relatively small price to pay to avoid the thousands of incremental murders that happen as soon as the cops retreat to the donut shop.

It’s almost as if we tell blacks that they are entitled to run amok and then they do.

Thompson: Some people say that the simplest way to reduce crime will be to re-surge police presence in violent areas. I’ve called for “unbundling” police services and paying a broader group of local government and state employees to work with the homeless or handle domestic disputes. How do you think we should begin to reverse the rise in crime?

Sharkey: These surges in violence came from an old model of policing. In this old model, police respond to violence with brute force.

It’s like when Mr. Al-Issa murders ten people in a supermarket and the police come and shoot him in the leg after one cop is murdered. That’s the old model of brute force.

In the new model, a social worker with an M.A. in sociology from the U. of Colorado in Boulder shows up and … something good happens. Don’t bother me about the details right now, the point is that my idea is new and Good, while your’s is time-tested and therefore Bad.

That’s it for the victims all right. Tragic for sure. But let’s focus on the perpetrators for once, shall we? The perpetrators are bullets, and shots which ring out. These things come from guns.

These things happen all by themselves, of course, so the solution is to make sure that law-abiding people are never in control of these things, which happen. Have I got this right now?

  2. This is all so post hoc “we done f*cked up” excuse making.

It vaguely alludes to a new model for suppressing crime.

Looking at new models is sensible, but given the hundreds of American cities, any individual model may be just tried in any individual city first. That way thousands of murders would not have occurred.

Detroit has been a multi-decade experiment in black governance and near 100% diversity, equity and inclusion. Obviously we need a fee more decades to see how it goes.

SHE’S SECRETLY RACIST! A White Supremacist Trump Supporter! Why else would she be silent on Instagram Stories and not posting about Gun Control? HMMMM! Did she post to stories on January 6th?? She didn’t? That’s cuz she wasn’t at home baking cookies, she was at the Capitol!

And yeah, there’s a heavy (()) behind this that’s really fun (and they join up with the black influencers, fat influencers, etc etc)

  4. I’ve noticed lately the resurgence of a claim that the left liked making last time they were in the ascendant (pre Reagan and Thatcher), namely that the mere presence of the police is so provocative that people nearby have no option except to commit violent crime. This is trotted out to excuse the violence that attends leftist demonstrations/protests/riots.

Naturally, the left will reject the ‘they made me do it!’ line in any other circumstance.

  5. TyRade says:

Perhaps the ‘new model’ of not policing will be a sort of national ‘Last Chance U’. Vast resources, more or less unaccounted for, thrown at feral, almost always black youth – psychological, mentoring, tutoring, medical, nice sports kit – in the outer-space long-odds hope a few won’t buck generations of broken homes, low expectations and low intelligence.’ Hoops not cops’ ? Every young ‘shooter’ gets a free throw at an NBA contract (no obligation to fulfil) and no one goes ‘directly to jail’. Requires an army of thick-skinned, most always white father-figure substitutes of infinite patience happy with not much more than minimum wage rewards and occasional Netflix exposure.

  6. Sharkey is trying to take a victory lap. As a sociologist in his 30s, he “predicted” that historically low crime rates would not stay historically low, confident he would be proven prescient. He blamed it on not giving enough to blacks, which is catnip to sociologists, the NPR crowd, and the media. His profession and clowns like Coates make him famous in his field because he is available for soundbites suggesting that reparations are necessary. A few years later, when the crime rate inevitably rises, he can say I told you so. He thought it might take many years, but it was only about 6.

On a related note, I am beginning my book on how the introduction of critical race theory into preschools, the banning of racist Dr. Seuss books, Netflix algorithms forcing people to see previews of Beyonce’s Black is King every time they touch their remote, and the new privately-funded welfare programs for non-whites only have caused the crime rate to fall from 2020-2021 back to more typical levels. Watch for my interviews before 2030.

  12. Good point about the schools. I really doubt if any schools in the US are underfunded compared to public schools in places like, say, Jamaica, Haiti, or the Dominican Republic.

Do we have schools that have no air conditioning or heating, no paper and pencils? No computers or books? No free meals for poor children?

I think he does make a good point though, even if obscured by opaque language, that because of the closing of schools and colleges during the pandemic, inner cities and ghettoes–as segregated areas used to be known–have been plagued with feral youth with no particular place to go.

It is often said that schools provide nothing more than a babysitting or daycare service, but daycare is very expensive, and the free daycare provided by schools is very valuable to communities.

My dad was a school administrator in one of the top county public school systems in the country. A politically deep-blue part of the country. He retired in the early ‘80’s. I remember him telling me once after he retired that his school(s) would get constant demands from the school board to raise black (not many Hispanics then) test scores. He said the school(s) focused all kinds of resources on black students which yielded no appreciable results. He then said, “You know how we raised black test scores to the level demanded? You don’t know the half of it, Jonathan. Your being a Socialist tells me that you don’t WANT to know the half of it. You have to be there, or be around any level government bureaucracy, to understand the abuse of taxpayer money that goes on. A light goes on for some of us, and we extrapolate: “hey, this type of thing probably happens at most of these organizations” (and especially the non-White ones).

I’ll never donate another single pencil when they ask for additional school supplies for those without (right!). Our boy was sick, and therefore absent for 3 days straight right before Christmas one year. We told the teacher but just didn’t email the right person. We got a certified (registered? I dunno) and found out we had to go to what amounted to a hearing at the school. The assistant principal and some lady who came from the school board were there with laptops and paperwork to get us on an attendance remediation plan. The first words out of my mouth were “so this is where my tax money goes.”

It went on for 15 minutes, signing forms and shit. This whole process was intended to be for seriously delinquent kids/parents, but, you know bureaucracy – gotta check the boxes rather than just have a 30 second phone call “please email Mrs. ABC when your kids have been absent.”

After that BS, we got another certified letter, so I went to the school. “I thought we had this thing settled. What do we have to do now?” “Oh, nah, we just sent one to everybody. It was easier that way. You’re fine.” How much do certified letters cost now, Jonathan? Oh, it’s free though, right?

They’ve got plenty of money, all of them. Wait until the SHTF. Then we’ll see some frugality and some legitimate complaints.

  25. Why does every article like this frame the whole Black/Violence narrative as a local or national issue?

Black criminality isn’t an uniquely American problem. It’s an everywhere that blacks congregate in numbers anywhere in the world problem.

You can read articles like this in the UK, in Europe and Australia and in every previously majority white western country that opened up its borders to massive third world immigration and ALL of them frame their racial problems as local/national issues too.

You can substitute black for Muslim in many locations but the narrative is always the same.

    BLAME WHITEY!

So, when I read these articles from multiple jurisdictions all highlighting the same issues, yet failing to EVER mention that actually it’s a problem everywhere where blacks live in close proximity to other races (and it’s worse when there are no other races!), I wonder why so many journalists fail to make the connection?

Who is pushing the narrative in every white majority country that their racial problems are all the fault of Whitey?

    It’s clearly organized.

Areas of concentrated poverty = areas of concentrated low IQ people. Low IQ people are more likely to engage in crime and solve petty disputes with extreme violence. Remove social guardrails that penalizes disorderly behavior, you get more of it. Progs will construct elaborate theories to avoid recognizing any of this.

This willingness to gamble with people’s lives by supporting policies that result in more social disorder and crime is largely down to the fact that the progs in positions of influence for the most part have grown up and live insulated – some might say segregated – from the people they are claiming to be most concerned about and have completely unrealistic ideas about how their lives and daily behavior might differ from their own.

I realize it seems too broad, but I don’t think it’s coincidental that what wasn’t broken got well and truly fixed while Obama was president. For eight years, Democrats and their Allied Media made it clear they would rather die than admit that he was needlessly f**king things up.

THE problem seems to be that the wrong people had the right solutions. As if Giuliani wasn’t bad enough already, he reappeared on the national stage as a supporter of The Evil One (who is wrong about EVERYTHING).

The freed up money allowed NYC more leeway, and at the state level the money paid for Cuomo I’s jail building spree. Toss in mass immigration of high class immigrants for extra taxing power. It is also worth noting that white crime peeked around 1977 and has slowly declined even since. The late 80’s to early 90’s, the gangsta rap crime wave, was all black and was mainly connected to disputes over the distribution of crack cocaine in black neighborhoods. Call it distributor wars.

Ignore the social implications because the enemy has no race. They are global elites with no homes and no loyalty. They may not be sending their best but our worst are sending out the invitations.

Remove social guardrails that penalizes disorderly behavior, you get more of it. Progs will construct elaborate theories to avoid recognizing any of this.

Here in Idaho, there are many, many small towns that are now areas of concentrated poverty since cutting timber and mining were shut down by the environmentalists a couple decades ago. I used to live near one of them, and yes, there are quite a few “low IQ people”, yet petty crime is fairly low and predominately of the public intoxication variety, with the occasional domestic violence. Extreme violence is non-existent. Same situation on the Indian Reservations, which are famously impoverished . Low IQ Blacks obviously behave vastly different than Low IQ non-Blacks, and everybody knows it but can’t say it. Blacks generally enjoy violence, either as participants or spectators, and see no reason to quash it. As participants they see it as inevitable and as spectators they see it as hilarious, and I suspect it’s always been so. Hence, segregation of Blacks throughout time and place.

I’m too lazy/busy to go look it up, but there were years during the ’90s Giuliani mayoralty where NYC’s violent crime reduction was responsible for fully one-half of the total crime reduction experienced in the entire U.S.–due, obviously to the sheer size of NYC and the high crime rate.

Giuliani’s innovation was that everyone deserves policing, not just Park Ave. grandees. CompStat (introduced by Bill Bratton and the late Jack Maple) was policing that deployed resources where and when crime was occurring (call it Willie Sutton policing). Criminal perpetrators have the curious sense to strike the vulnerable and defenseless, and where apprehension is less likely–or non-existent. The year after CompStat was adopted, 1995, murders dropped to 1,181, a decline of ~400 murders.

To go from 2,245 murders in 1990, to 289 in 2018–an 87% reduction adds up to a lot of people NOT murdered. Murder in NYC had not been so low (289) since 1944–with a population about 750,000 less than today.

It’s just that there’s a new generation of liberals who grew up in the suburbs and in a low crime era without sufficient contact with vibrancy so they have forgotten (or never knew) what happened the last time the Left tried this.

The late mayor of NYC, Ed Koch used to tell a story about a liberal judge who was himself mugged in the middle of presiding over the trial of a mugger and the story made the papers. So on the day that the trial resumed, the judge made a little speech to the jury and to the gallery, to the effect that: “Some of you may have heard that I was recently the victim of a mugging. I just wanted to assure the defendant and the public that I will not allow this to affect my judicial rulings in any way.” At which point a little old lady who was in the gallery (maybe a relative of one of the defendant’s victims) shouted out, “Well, then mug him again!”

People will be much more receptive to someone telling them welcome lies than they will be to someone (like Steve) who is bearing painful truths.

Many year ago (1984 to be precise) the comedian Andy Kaufman was given a very grim prognosis by his doctors – terminal lung cancer. He refused to accept the diagnosis and flew to the Philippines where he underwent a scam type of treatment knows as “psychic surgery”. The practitioners of “psychic surgery” create the illusion of performing surgery with their bare hands and use sleight of hand, fake blood, and animal parts to convince the patient that diseased lesions have been removed and that the incision has spontaneously healed, when in fact they were doing nothing – basically rubbing some chicken parts on your skin and making it look as if they were reaching inside of you and pulling out a tumor.

    This is particularly nasty stuff.

The plain fact is the first part of this is true. Aggressively attacking crime is particularly beneficial to people living in low-income–particularly black–neighborhoods. Crime amplifies the disorder of the not-particularly-orderly-and-organized people in such neighborhoods. And so is particularly destructive to them. Quashing it, allows some semblance of orderly civilized life to emerge, allowing these low-income people to actually have a chance to get their act together.

And the vast majority of people in these neighborhoods understand it. They hate what the thugs and knuckleheads are doing to their neighborhood, even if some of those thugs and knuckleheads are their relatives.

In truth, one the best things that could happen for lower-income people is to ditch the entire modern “progressive” penal model. Go back to old school where criminals are put in stocks, whipped and humiliated (minor assholery) or executed or expelled permanently to some new Devil’s Island. I.e. broadcast zero tolerance and remove the criminals from these neighborhoods permanently. Immediate improvements and further eugenic benefits downstream. This would be most beneficial policy for lower-income Americans after an immigration stop.

But a minoritarian POS like Sharkey, while knowing full well how beneficial crushing crime is … just can’t bear the thought of crushing minoritarian pieties with it. He sits in his ivory tower–his wife, his kids far removed from the thugs disorder–and parrots minoritarian lies.

America is under new leadership now, and the current rulers don’t care much about random street violence. indeed, some of them are sympathetic to the low level criminal. don’t expect a campaign to reduce violent crime anytime soon…or ever again, possibly. they’ll protect their own rich neighborhoods, and that’s about it. and they’ll try to disarm you and prevent you from defending your own self and property.

Isn’t the explanation regression to the mean? Eg, a 115 IQ White couple will have children, on average, 1/2 standard deviation above a 115 IQ Black couple? Hence the relatively higher crime and school underperformance universal to middle-class Black neighborhoods. And then you have to factor in affirmative action, so the Black accountant and pharmacist couple will be duller than their White counterparts. Plus there’re all the regressed to the mean friends and relatives that come to visit the middle-class Black neighborhood.

NYC did not account for half of that drop of 9000 murders.

NYC was able to take about 1700 murders a year off the board in total – all of that back now, distributed across other cities. national murders went over 16,000 again by 2019. some people say NYC partly accomplished this reduction by just pushing out the low rent africans to other places, and that seems to be somewhat believable.

“Underfunded” is a euphemism for “have students with low test scores.” E.g., “Washington D.C.’s underfunded schools.”

D.C. spent around $30,115 per pupil in 2016-17, while in 2017-18, nearby Arlington County was expected to spend $19,340, the City of Falls Church to spend $18,219; the City of Alexandria, $17,099; Montgomery County, $16,030; Fairfax County, $14,767; Prince George’s County, $13,816; Loudoun County, $13,688; City of Manassas, $12,846; City of Manassas Park, $11,242; and Prince William County, $11,222.

In one way it has clearly deteriorated: a Princeton Professor can expend his life on the subject and write a book that is less informative than Baldwin’s one-liner.

The only time they do not blame the guns is in the much less common man bites dog White male on Black male murders.

Recently? Liberals have been thinking this way for at least the last 70 years. It’s just that there’s a new generation of liberals who grew up in the suburbs and in a low crime era without sufficient contact with vibrancy so they have forgotten (or never knew) what happened the last time the Left tried this.

Yes, thank you for reminding us of the good old days. And if we really want to go back, liberals in 18th century Britain had similar ideas about what it might take to make a “mill to grind rogues honest,” in the words of Jeremy Bentham.

The Great Commission to Uplift the American Negro is a long-running national project that goes back at least to the 1850s. It’s recurred in cycles that always eventually founder, creating at best a “talented tenth”-type elite and leaving the great mass of the black underclass where they are or worse. It can only continue to the extent that it does because of willful ahistoriocity on the part of its adherents, at least with respect to past cycles. As our esteemed host has pointed out time and again, liberals are forbidden to know of any history relevant to blacks prior to the 21st century other than slavery, Jim Crow, redlining, and Emmett Till.

  88. @prime noticer

There was probably a year or two, such as 1994 and 1995, when murders were falling precipitously in NYC and still going up in small cities in the hinterlands of America. The Crack Wars started in NYC and LA in the later 1980s and didn’t get to the Tulsas until c.1992. A crack war tends to burn out in about 5 years because everybody who thought it was a good idea to live the thug life like on NWA albums was in prison, cemetery, or wheelchair. So NYC’s murder toll started to fall late in Dinkins’ term, and then dropped like a rock when Giuliani came in, but in 1994 crack wars were finally flourishing in small black cities.

Wrong mostly on every level. Black people LOVE crime and violence. They can’t get enough of it — as the saying goes among the ghetto set, “You ain’t a man unless you made a life and took a life.” Violent thuggery as Jill Leovy made clear in “Ghettocide” is a sure fire way to having lots and lots of kids with many baby mamas.

Sure, in THEORY black people would like Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and Thor to all police the Ghetto and stop violent thuggery (against them only, its street reparations against other races). But real police arresting cousin Tookie for 3 murders this month. Get real my man! Get Real.

However, most other races do not love crime and violence, still less black crime and violence against them. Latinos over the black crime issue are trending Republican. The black / Asian alliance is not sustainable due to this violence. White men may be the devil but they are rarely violent.

So what is the outcome? The cops are not coming back for 50 years. Cities are going to be war zones and violent places. Everyone will do their best to abandon even the suburbs for rural areas, if they can in any way work remotely. Gun seizures and a total gun ban by Biden is in the works, with overthrowing the filibuster part of the process and something he’s promised. But what then?

Gun ownership is the hedge against anarcho-tyranny. Without it, you will see a reaction. People own guns as a hedge against violent black home invasions such as the one that killed House of Freaks Guitarist Bryan Harvey and his entire family (in torture/murder of the most awful kind). Four black men were convicted, given non life sentences, which won’t bring back the dead.

Mexico has strict gun laws, heavy crime, and constant vigilante violence as the government does nothing BUT anarcho tyranny. How has that worked out? Our future is Mexico, not Brazil. Not even rich people are safe in Mexico.

But no, black people love violent crime and would never agree to any amount of policing that stopped it. Since most of their relatives would be in jail and they’d have a TFR of something like 0.17 .

Books, desks, rooms, none of that needs to be new.

Generally, schoolies point to states that spend more than their own (fake numbers) as “evidence”.

But then why shouldn’t taxpayers in those other states identify that difference as evidence that their own education systems are overfunded (which they are)?

That can certainly happen. Many years ago I did a introductory college course in economics in Bermuda. So, for example, if you got 99 points out of a possible 150, then your final score was 99%, which was an A.

I pointed out to the instructor that this was mathematically nonsense, but many years later I realized that it was just a way of giving the appearance that students were much better than they were. At the time I did not grasp the real implications.

Guns are the best weapon to use to defend against a criminal with a knife, a rock, a sharpened stick, or a boot to your skull.

Guns protect the individuals right to life, their human rights and property rights, and make dictatorship impossible thus ensuring governance of, by, and for the people.

But isn’t making an argument twisted, confusing, and circular an old Jewish tactic to confuse and entrap Gentiles?

Yes, but it’s a lot more than that. Pilpul is a body of techniques that is intended to make rational argument impossible by shifting the subject of the argument to something that cannot be discussed rationally. https://dissidentvoice.org/2020/05/pilpul-for-beginners/ also search for “piplul” and see what pops up.

The technique was first developed by Ashkenazim to support a reinterpretation of Jewish religious texts, and amounted to yet another method of “esoteric reading”, that is, misinterpretation of text by a small elite group. For a US example of esoteric reading, consider the long prevalent judicial reading of the Constitution’s 2nd Amendment to say that only the National Guard had a right to firearms. Note that this reading relied on a simple logical error — reinterpreting the meaning of “militia” from “the body of armed men” to “the National Guard”. For an example of pilpul, which rejects rationality completely, consider the “You are a fascist” argument or the “speech is violence, violence is speech” argument.

From the Jewish perspective, the endemic use of pilpul is a severe cultural weakness. It makes Jewish groups unable to formulate and approve rational strategic plans, and is responsible for more Jewish debacles than I like to think of. Jewish groups are, however, quite able to plan operations such as media takeovers. From the non-Jewish perspective, it simply means the existence of a group that is adept at coopting resources, but unable to use these resources for any but non-rational ends.

In fiction, modes of thought are symbolized by enchanted weapons that posses their users and drive them mad. Thought is always a model of reality, but (since humans all live in the bone box of their head) tend to be mistaken for reality, and the lack of fit to actual events tends to be ignored, quite often ignored until the discrepancy becomes large enough to be fatal. Romans, for example, were an urban people who lived in cities long after imported diseases made the cities severe demographic sinks. In fact, they lived in cities until conquered by healthier peoples with better demographics, peoples who did not live in cities. For a second example, consider contemporary industrial society, which seems to cause demographic shrinkage wherever it is practiced, be it US, Russian Federation, People’s Republic of China, or Japan. Despite its slow killing off of its own population, industrialization continues to be sought after.

So don’t assume that a way of thought confers invulnerability. It does not. Like the enchanted weapons of fiction, a way of thought that confers great powers also confers a form of eventually fatal madness.

So explain please much lower incidents of crime in Europe–despite influx of Africans. Yes, their crime is rising but it is not and could never be at the level it is here. Most European countries have well-trained highly professional police forces the US has, in most areas, badly trained police considering the crime problem we have. Our crime rate would go down if we had a role for all people and something like “equal justice under law” which we don’t, at least in the criminal courts even remotely have. Money rules transactions in most jurisdictions–91 to 94% of all cases are plea-bargains since most people cannot afford the insanely high cost of legal counsel (those of us tangling with the law have experience in the shocking fees that accumulate). All our systems are deeply and systemically corrupt. Blaming the canaries in the coal mine for social dysfunction is lame–what are you going to do? Put everyone who has African blood in prison? That’s expensive–just administering street justice is stupid–it doesn’t work creates more bad-feelings. I believe there is a place for street justice (I’ve seen it in operation) but it has to be administered by people in communities not by external force and, by international standards, poorly trained police.

I’m glad I read your last paragraph. There are many people dumb as a door nail that utter your sarcasm in the previous sentences while being serious. I agree with you and as long as people are kept from discussing things honestly, which is the goal of the people that have run things in western countries for many decades, there will never be a solution because they don’t like the only solution that we know works.

The solution those in charge have is that whites just have to accept the violence their countries now have and they know that over a period of time it will be considered a normal and accepted part of life because after a generation or two, maybe three, people never knew anything different.

When I sent a friend the following video of modern day Lisbon she responded with a few moving sentences. This is part of what she wrote:

“I was lucky to visit Lisboa some 40+ years ago— funny to even realize Salazar was still in power, the “fascist”, don’t you know— and it was enchanting, quaint like a museum of its faded former colonial glory, amazing architecture, wonderful restaurants and a nation fiercely conscious of their identity, as proud of their Camoes as the Spaniards are of Cervantes, and the haunting, mournful unique sound of Fado music.

I remember the imposing Monument of the Discoverers in the harbor— a sort of Portuguese Mount Rushmore, with Vasco da Gama et al looking down on their descendants…”

You don’t have to be Portuguese to be moved by that. But this is “modern” Lisboa, Portugal. I’m sorry to have to say it, but like much of western Europe (same in the USA), now a shithole. I apologize that the lying mainstream media (which now includes Youtube) would not allow this video on their website, so you can only find it on a politically incorrect website.

  151. I would encourage all Unz readers to spend some time (today) on a YouTube channel called Police Activity. Police Activity takes the video from police cameras and shows how encounters with suspects turn in to police shootings.

I have been binge watching these videos over the past few days. The common thread in all of them is despair and nihilism. The criminals in all the videos, no matter which race, purposely escalate their encounters with the cops. And when they finally get shot, I really think that most of them have secretly “succeeded”. They want to die.

Some of the videos show white people who have surely been taking anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds for years, and mixing these with alcohol, and after having chased away the love and affection of their family members they decide to commit “suicide by cop.” There aren’t that many of this type of shooting, but they are there. (You will notice that some are kids, some are middle-aged, and some are 60 plus. Age really is not a factor.)

The Mexicans will run from cops because it’s fun to do, and they might get away with it and then have a story to tell their homies. But you really can tell that most of these dead Mexicans simply knew that their lives were never going to amount to anything, and hoping that age 28 will be better than age 18 is really a stupid way to think. So, they figure they’ll cut their losses now and just get shot and die. Saves time.

The blacks are the worst of the bunch. They always, always, always manage to turn an expired registration sticker, or no insurance card, or a warrant for not paying child support, or getting caught putting graffiti on a garage door into a fatal encounter with cops. They all have guns hidden on their person or squirrelled away between the front seat and the console. Sometimes they use the vehicle as a weapon. But always there is a deep, secret yearning to just be done with this waste of time that we call life and move on to the next world.

The cops who shoot them are literally just RoboCop. If you’ve seen the movie with that title, you know that RoboCop’s catchphrase is “Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.” And when anybody, of any race or age, tells a cop “No, I won’t do what you say, and unless you make me obey you I will first shoot you or stab you to death” well, to our modern RoboCops this is like catnip. “Challenge accepted” they say, and then proceed to take out the trash.

I am a Christian, so it pains me to write this. But my conclusion is that in a post agricultural, post industrial economy most human beings are simply “obsolete farm machinery.” The only jobs that matter to anyone these days are STEM, and you can’t do any of those things without at least a 115 I.Q. And a 115 puts you in the top 15 percent of the human race. Just take a look at all the tattooed white, brown, and black kids in your town, age 17-30, who literally have nothing going for them. No job, no girlfriend or wife, no future, and a stupid, boring past. They live for whichever creature comfort they can find that particular day. And after they’ve been to jail once or twice, they know that nobody will ever hire them to do anything; not even to cut the grass.

So, they may as well go out with a BANG, literally, and move on to their eternal fiery home. Despair and nihilism. That’s what’s up.

(Reminder; watch some videos, today, on YouTube’s Police Activity channel. You’ll be amazed.)

The more I read UR the more I come to realize the white man is the cause of all the black man’s problems. It is a fact and numerous surveys (all by Phds) and studies ( by University professors) have confirmed this. Whites never waste a day wondering how to stomp on the black man and make his life more miserable not only mentally but physically.

Whites have a supernatural power. They can live 50 miles away from a black area and cause garbage to be thrown all over the place, old cars to be abandoned on the street, fences to be torn down and hoods turned to decay and then rubble. Shit, these crackers, using telepathy, even make blacks turn into pimps, hustlers, drug dealers, hoes, school dropouts and shoot up each other. Its like Magic, who can explain it .

The problem is not GUNS. The problem is they need to have their own country somewhere in Africa. But wait, we already bought Liberia for them and they fucked it up oops I mean the Honkies using their telepathy turned the place into a horrendous slum and war zone.

The problem is further compounded by the fact that the Negroes in Africa dont want the Negroes from the US. Even the people in Haiti dont want them, not in Haiti’s slums and not in the Haitian slums in the US. Further the Negroes in the US wont leave. This is not the result of all the freebies they get here but by the fact that they are determined to remake America by first burning it down and then building mud and shit huts with grass roofs.

If we give them their own States here in the US (with Mkamala Arisulu as their President) we will have to build a wall and keep them out. What with the problems we now have with out southern border this is liable to be a non starter. The darkies will escape from Chief Arisulu’s utopia to come back to Crackertopia and be under our feet again.

What then is the solution ? No other country in the world, not the Japs, not the Russians, not the Middle East, not the Eskimos, not even Africa, not even the Chinese in China or the Chinese in Africa want them. Racists all ! Europe perhaps ? How about that little state supported by the US ?

This problem needs more study, say another 100 Phds, another 100 years and another $100M in research grants. In the meantime I plead with all whites to be nice to these people. They built America and without them our lives would be empty !

It is not as much poverty as it is unemployment. As the old saying goes, idle hands are the devil’s workshop. In our (((Western liberal democracies))) finance capitalism is king. Unlike the industrial capitalism of Henry Ford, who paid people well so they could buy things, finance capitalism seeks to reward shareholders first and foremost. That means lower costs. Immigration provides lower costs and raises costs to the masses. Immigration is the reserve army of capital.

Full time employment takes up almost half of the time of your day. That provides a lot less opportunity to screw things up or plan mayhem. Since the FTA and NAFTA, the unemployment numbers have been fudged. The real unemployment rate is closer to 20% and there is massive underemployment on top of that. That’s a lot of people, with a lot of time, to create mayhem.

A comparatively small number of gang affiliated young (mostly) men run up the crime tallies with sheets which run on for double digits of printed pages of offenses. In recent years, the revolving door justice system of the major cities has elected to keep them on the streets for political reasons.

Easy explanation. White crime rates in US are lower than EU crime rates. In the EU, refugees and immigrants are still much less in number and most of them live in no-go zones, separate from the natives – less points of contact equal less crime. Within these zones, there’s neither police nor crime reporting, they are replaced by opaque sharia courts. Also no Affirmative Action, and welfare hasn’t been around long enough to do the necessary damage.

Put everyone who has African blood in prison?

A rather silly and dishonest strawman of yours, nobody has asked for it. The closest I’ve seen on this thread – get rid of early release, the majority of crimes are commuted by repeat offenders.

Why “international”? Try the American way for once, it has worked well enough before. Like: Make self-defense and militias great again. Remove the restrictions for them in cooperation with expanded sheriff authority. Make freedom of association great too, get rid of forced integration like section 8 and such. Then you have to support abortion rights and oppose child credits, welfare, offshoring and immigration – these are the immediate causes of this state of affairs. Poor single moms raise kids for profit at taxpayers expense, then kids go to school creating problems and requiring more taxpayers money. Then to the streets because every productive or manual job has been shipped offshore to save costs – including taxes… The kids grow up and if they can’t find a job at Walmart, they are adopted by some street gang and start a criminal life, it becomes an addiction along drug abuse, then gets progressively worse and ends in a severe depression, see St. Floyd. In the European countries where firearms ownership is banned or highly regulated, home invasions when occupants are home is the norm.
Not so in the USA. Studies of criminals in the USA invariably state that criminals do not want to confront homeowners in their own homes as a permanent “trip to the hereafter” can be the result.
Not only do firearms equalize the honest person with the criminal, and the 90 lb. woman with the 200 lb. criminal, laws that absolve homeowners of liability for defending their domiciles are common.
Not so in most other countries.
Even in Canada, a successful self-defense situation resulting in death or wounding of a criminal WILL be prosecuted by the “crown” (government)-no exceptions. It is up to the homeowner to prove that his life was threatened.

If a man (or woman) with a knife or gun takes a run at a cop, then that person automatically becomes an “outlaw”; they are outside the confines of order and decency, and they need to be put down. I guess my main point was that we face a spiritual problem in this country that is beyond any simple “racial” solution. Meanwhile, fixing the spiritual problems is not a cop’s responsibility. I am a Christian, so it pains me to write this. But my conclusion is that in a post agricultural, post industrial economy most human beings are simply “obsolete farm machinery.” The only jobs that matter to anyone these days are STEM

    This isn’t entirely true.

In my area the plumbers and electricians easily make more than most science positions. In fact a lot of laboratory positions are poor paying because there are so many science grads looking for a job.

There is money to be made in the trades but liberals have convinced everyone to try and get a degree or give up.

In a lot of areas you can’t even find a contractor. I tried to hire one recently at market wages and he left for a better job.

I guess my main point was that we face a spiritual problem in this country that is beyond any simple “racial” solution.

What exactly do you mean by this? Polls show that Blacks are the most Christian of all racial groups so shouldn’t they be the most peaceful?

Meanwhile, fixing the spiritual problems is not a cop’s responsibility. He just needs to be brave, to be just, and to keep that Glock poppin’ when necessary.

Yes we expect our cops to be brave and get into gunfights with angry Bantu because our politicians are like you and consider racial realism to be un-Christian or inegalitarian. The police have to work the front lines of race denial while the politicians live in gated communities where they can delude themselves.

Just not so. There was a bit of foolishness with limited Lebanese immigration in the 70s and 80s but insignificant by 2021. Apart from that there was what I call an inoculating dose of African, mostly South Sudanese, refugees.. Just a few thousand have managed to breed quite a few young home invaders (fortunately without guns) but, if anything, it has helped us maintain a barrier against the predictably undesirable. Almost on topic….. what would it take to get up big .marches over a year or two billed as demonstrating what civilised people should do and advertised as, say, “Join WAR” [Walk Against Riots] if no one can improve on that? The aim would be to get thousands of people out just after dawn when minimal hindrance to people’s livelihoods is caused, and have them march to Congress, City Hall or wherever to serve as an example which shows up the alternative versions.

And now for something completely different. Since I won’t have two lifetimes I proffer the hope that someone will make the case that Lincoln’s refusal simply to allow Southern secession was one of the worst Presidential decisions ever. How could even the immediate death and destruction be justified by the (merely pragmatic ) emancipatioln of Slaves? After all slavery was gone, even from Cuba and Brazil, in the 1880s and the pressure on a seceded South from the North and Eurooe would have been immense . And how would Slaves be retained when the 1850 Return of Fugitive Slaves statute was repealed? You could write it Steve.

Well maybe whites wanted to give blacks a chance to see what they could do. The blacks showed what they are capable of, which was, nothing. Or rather that they could ruin a whole area.

Blacks living in a black area, for all their bunk about white privilege etc, as soon as they can, move INTO a white area. Soon however, their hood friends and relatives come to visit. The white area is slowly transformed with black man behaviour and habits.

Whites all move away. The area becomes a Nigga Hood and all the monkeys who fled their previous black hood now find themselves in a new black hood. And….the process starts all over.

This happened in one high end area I lived. Interestingly enough, the man of the family was more white than black. Unless he told you he identified as black (his mother was) you would never know. In addition the guy was a senior executive making serious coin. The flea in the ointment was his kids. Dad was hardly at home and Mom was with her friends or shopping. Since the kids were “black” all the black kids from school and their friends as well would congregate at the house. These teens would arrive even if no one was at home at the time. It was always party time.

After the first party, the writing was on the wall. Marckus sold and moved away. The other white neighbours stayed and hoped things would change. The place became a BeeBop shit hole. The Norman Vincent Peale disciples must have taken a financial blood bath with the decline in house prices.

In an interesting turn of events this executive’s kids somehow attained successful careers. However, while their Dad was still on with the black thing they married WHITE

Since the 80’s ?? a new trend seems to be developing. People with money wait until these areas are absolute ruins and then buy them up on the cheap. They renew the area, blacks move out, they cannot afford the prices, whites move in.

As usual though, blacks complain they were cheated. These people are losers. Everyone else is to blame for their woes and that is why they remain at the bottom of the ladder !

They are happiest when living in filth .

Show video of lower level miscreants being pilloried in stocks as in our Colonial era. Floggings too. I guarantee you the public embarrassment/humiliation of being shown on TV would stop criminals from becoming career criminals. And by flogging I don’t mean serious injury. 20 light to medium lashes will do the trick for public humiliation. Shown on TV of course.

Normal black people aren’t buying it and don’t talk like they do to white people in life. The cult has proposed that your skin color makes you guilty. The answer is no. A racist is someone who does something racist to another person. Declaring someone a racist based upon their skin color and not upon their actually doing something racist is doing something that is racist to that person. The false charge is a false racist charge. If someone declares someone else innocent or guilty based not on their innocence or guilt but rather on their skin color that is racism. Racism is a measure of someones willingness to declare guilty and ultimately de-humanize another individual based not on that individuals deeds in life but rather on something that they are and have no control over, it’s false judgment. You can not associate with another race because you don’t like their race and that’s fine but you cannot falsely judge them in life because you don’t like their race.

Think how many black thugs stayed out of youth prisons and robbed beat and raped because of the federal funding she and her non profit have received over the decades.

The devilishly complicated can be reduced to four simple primary factors affecting the crime rate: FIRST increasing income disparity within a country, especially when the lowest classes are reduced to desperation to survive. If you think the crime rate is bad here, its not as bad as Brazil or the USA prior to unionization. The problem of income disparity is linked to educational disparity ion that that is the main place where society lets a student know what they are worth and public policy. There will always be more job opportunity for lesser educated individuals, only decent public policy such as minimum wage laws can insure that a janitor can make a decent living. This problem is amplified when the standard of living is in decline, even though it usually takes a small upturn to foment revolution.
SECOND statistics prove that legalized abortion has reduced the crime rate, since children who are uloved and unwanted are more likely to grow up to be criminals.
THIRD the availability of guns amplifies the destructive consequences of every crime, where guns are involved. This leads to longer sentences which decreases the likelihood of criminal reform.
FOURTH too many laws prohibiting ordinary human behavior, like under prohibition, which has been perpetuated as the war on drugs.

Criminals are so brazen, and British laws being so screwed up, quite often the homeowner is arrested along with the criminal for merely defending himself. There are many horror stories out of Great Britain about these occurrences. In Great Britain, you are supposed to give the criminal whatever he wants. If you interfere, you may be brought up on charges yourself.

I lived in Detroit and had what I considered to be “good” neighbors. Mind you, not “good black” neighbors, but just good neighbors whose skin color did not (seem to) matter. We helped each other, whenever possible, looked out for each other, and had friendly relations, shared family events, barbecues and other social events.
The “troubles” started when my “good neighbors” invited their “ghetto rat” relatives to their parties. I restored an old car to near showroom condition and used to park it in my driveway. The “ghetto rats” decided that my car would be a good place to sit (on the hood). Asking them to remove themselves was met with responses of f#ck you” and other derogatory responses. Upon discussing the situation with my “good neighbor”, he pretty much told me that “boys will be boys” and to “just get over it”. My friendly relations with that neighbor cooled, as he was not willing to straighten out his “ghetto rat” relatives. Soon after, these “ghetto rats” found new avenues in which to ply their criminal “stock in trade”- breaking in to and ransacking houses and cars–easy (white) targets…
I soon moved to an all-white enclave after that, giving up on the city of Detroit, the criminality, harassment, and civic abuse, and have never been happier.

However, I don’t think these attitudes will last. Political headwinds in general are favoring the right, and within a few years rising crime rates will add extra fuel to the nationalist fire that started in 2015.

My family cottage sold for zero in Northern Michigan & if it had been Northern California we would all be millionaires. Nobody wants to live in Da UP.

Being born in Michigan is a misfortune.

Does My Neighborhood Determine My Future?

Housing policy in the United States has a long history of deepening segregation. Redlining, exclusionary lending, and targeted zoning laws have all played a role in isolating minority populations while simultaneously privileging white residents. Glad You Asked host Lee Adams wants to know how this happened, and what effect residential segregation has on your future.

Michael Brown was not acting out of desperation to survive. Don’t kid yourself about that. What drives high black crime rates is primarily the black female strategy for competing with non-black women by incentivizing crime among black males in the belief that this will ward of sexual competition from non-black females. There is a limited parameter in which economic poverty can act as a cause of crime, but it shouldn’t be treated as the all-purpose explanation which some try to make it into.

The host Ron Unz has at times debated the matter of Hispanic crime. From what data I can find, crime rates among Hispanics are a bit higher than among non-Hispanic whites, but not as high as among blacks. If the only case example one looked was to compare Hispanics versus non-Hispanic whites then it might seem plausible to attribute the difference to economics. But that explanation can’t hold for blacks.

  253. Quote from Atlantic:

“Defund the police” protests, which were understandable responses to very real problems.

Yes apparently the police acting within their traditional roles, to detain and arrest law breakers, is harmful to Blacks. Apparently the police are supposed to remain peaceable while a Black is disorderly, disobeys directions (in the old days that was called “resisting arrest”), reaches into his pants or a vehicle possibly for a weapon, steals the officer’s Tazer and runs away, etc. You see, these are all perfectly reasonable behaviors for poor maligned Black men and it’s unreasonable to expect them to behave like civilized people. In 2020 (and earlier) dozens of people have been killed or maimed, billions of dollars of property damaged, largely because of Black males acting foolishly. Defund the police? We need to defund the dysfunctional welfare hoodlum lifestyle.

Your post has several implicit assumptions: that all students, or even in some cases even a majority of those in a school (e.g. Baltimore) are interested, motivated or (alas) even capable of receiving an education. These’s also the issue of WHAT the system is trying to teach them. American public education has been mostly about appearances rather than substance, and this has been true since at least the 1960s. High school and sometimes now, university diplomas are awarded to people who in many cases lack even basic skills to funciton in life, much less hold anything resembling a skilled job. This is only partially “the system” at fault: there is a sizeable fraction of the population that for various reasons, is not susceptible to education, no matter what resources are made available. See the botched fix-up attempt of Kansas City Public Schools ca. 1985-2005 for an eye-opener.

Nor is the problem entirely racial, although many of us dissidents believe that there are racial factors in average behaviors, propensity to violence, or educability. Other culuteres, often much poorer ones (e.g. Africa) still manage to educate at least some of their people to acceptable basic standards.

Just as dismissive layman’s opinion here, but I have to call bullshit on the “lead in the water” argument. In the first place, the cities with lead pipes were built by Whites, and also they were the majority who lived in those places until desegregation and other factors drove them out in the mid-20th century. A reasonable man would think that the Whites that lived in those areas, and drank and bathed in water that flowed through lead pipes, would have suffered the same risks that are claimed to only affect later Blacks. Just as with the standard of living in those old neighborhoods and cities, apparently it was good enough for Whites long ago, but everything fell apart when these became Black-maority areas. Those darned Whites took the magic dirt with them, and that’s why the crime and poverty skyrocketed and test scrores went down the drain. All Cracka’s fault. Lead paint is also blamed. But that has been off the market for almost as long. Finally, and most damning, is the near-universal under-performance by Blacks (at least American Blacks) on every achievement test, compared to whites and other races, that I’m aware of. Surely it can be all lead in the water, everywhere, all the time. Perhaps there are other explanations?

The author of the “lead thesis” actually does make a number of valid points, but overplays them. His rebuttal to your argument would be that there were higher crime rates among whites back then. On this much he is correct. The fall in crime rates among whites could be partly explained by lead and the eventual removal of it. However he jumps from that to trying to attribute higher crime rates among blacks during all periods to lead. That is a bridge too far.

Agree, in part. However, race alone is a “predictor,” to use a socioogy term, of many traits, most of them negative. For amusement, let me share a definition: My Webster’s New World Dictionary, 3rd college edition (ca. 1991) gives the following definition for “racism”:
“a doctrine or teaching WITHOUT SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT that claims to find racial differences…”

I haven’t checked, but I’ll bet you the capitalized part has disappeared from most such dictionaries.

Many of America’s presigious universities are walking distance from dangerous slums. I direct your attention to December 2019, when a female freshman at Cornell (associated college) was murdered in Morningside Park at night by some teen thugs. Now, I’ll admit that a white teenage girl walking alone in a known dangerous area shows lack of judgment, which tragically cost her life, but the point remains. Much violent crime on campus is “imported” from the surrounding enivrons. Even the public university I attended in Tampa, FL, is not far from seedy areas, but they can’t compare with the slums of America’s older, run-down cities.

Despite the easy availability of such real-world examples, I seriously doubt that academics venture there often, to do field research.

  259. @Patrick McNally

I can’t speak to official demographic sorting, but I am trained in Spanish culture and have travelled to many Spanish speaking countries, including the USA [grin.] Point: calling “hispanic” a race is just about as stupid as calling “English-speaking” a race.

Worldwide, native Spanish speakers range from Penninsular (Spain) natives who are as white as you or me, perhaps with a trace of Moorish blood. The bulk, by far, of the USA hispanic populace is Mexican and central American. They are (mostly) a mix of Spanish and Inidgenous (“Indian”) blood. Primarily in the Caribbean and along the coasts, there more Negro ancestry due to the slave history. Now yes, the average Latino in the US will be a Mestizo. But this veritable rainbow of race mixing is what, in my opinion, makes it difficult to classify “Hispanic” in the statistics.

You can’t blame (solely) the Negroid race for high violence rates. Central America — Honduras and El Salvador — rank among the world’s most violent countries, yet have very little African heritage.

Based on “race realism” readings, I would speculate that, if you could sort out criminals strictly by racial ancestry, you would find a high correlation with it. E.g. if you look at “looks white” Spanish speakers vs. Black as the ace of spades Hispanics here in the USA, you’d find crime and other stats very similar to what you’ll find by comparing similar English-speakers.

Police just announced today that Tiger Woods was driving 85 miles an hour in a 45 mile an hour zone when he had his accident. Those racist speed laws made him do it. I saw OJ once in Santa Monica when the Goldman family was suing him for murdering their son. Big guy, shoulders looked about 4 feet wide. And huge huge hands.

OJ’s Dad was gay. Had 4 kids in wedlock !!!!! Imagine that!!! And got divorced. Mom was a welfare cheat managed to get into subsidized housing although her salary and child support were far above the maximum amount.

Both of the double murders parents were government employees. Dad a chef, not a cook but the head chef in the federal building cafeteria. Mom a psychiatric medic for the county hospital. . And their son is a double murderer.

The neighborhood OJ grew up in, Potrero Hill was destroyed by about 200 black families. After WW2 San Francisco was faced with thousands of black harbor and shipyard workers. So they were hired by government agencies. County Hospital was in Potero Hill and the bastard brats of the black county hospital employees destroyed an ideal neighborhood

A US Mint is located in San Francisco. Just as the county hospital bus service and post office hired left over WW2 blacks so did the US Mint.
The black bastard brats of the federal Mint employees quickly destroyed the neighborhood. By 1960 Fillmore neighborhood and Death Valley were the most criminal neighborhoods in San Francisco. Raucous black prostitutes of Fillmore became a tourist attraction.

By 1989 brave gay White men bought guns walkie- talkies firmed a Militia and took back Fillmore neighborhood. Death Valley is even known by its original name, Hayes Valley.
Black government workers and their families are as criminal as the rest.

Most ignorant dumb retard argument in favor of crime I’ve ever read. What are you? A NYTimes editorial writer? A desperate part time White community college teacher trying to hold on to your 6 hour a week job?

You’ve just repeated every lying pro criminal editorial excusing black crime written in the last 170 years. I’ve been reading the exact same liberal lies since I learned to read.
