From The Atlantic:

My Little Pony Fans Are Ready to Admit They Have a Nazi Problem
Even a niche subculture built around magical cartoon horses is reckoning with racism.

  1. Adult male fans of My Little Pony are called Bronies. There is one called Buttercup Dew that writes over at Counter-Currents with Trevor Lynch. He has a book called “My Nationalist Pony”. I don’t think he’s a Nazi though.

  2. Dumbo says:

There’s no more damning evidence of the current state of “culture” in America:

    a) that a supposedly serious and adult magazine publishes an article about something as inane as this
    b) that it was written without the slightest trace of humor or irony by a dumb white woman of course
    c) that “bronies” are a thing
    d) that adult white males may have any interest in cartoon characters directed to seven-year old girls
    e) that people seeing “nazis” and “racists” everywhere make paranoid-schizophrenics look sane

I couldn’t read more than the first paragraphs, it makes me thing that women should not be involved in journalism, they just shouldn’t. I mean this is a staff writer covering “technology”.

  3. Meanwhile the ideas of an American academic are coming to a school in the UK

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8455273/The-School-Tried-End-Racism-White-children-left-tears-guilt-privilege.html

White children were left in tears and admitted they felt ‘guilty’ and terrified of saying something racist ‘that could follow them for life’ in a new TV experiment that split pupils along racial lines.

Pupils in Year 7 at Glenthorne High School in South London were separated into ‘affinity groups’ of white and non-white students to discuss race and ethnicity during a three-week experiment in Channel 4’s new documentary The School That Tried to End Racism, airing tomorrow at 9pm.

The segregated affinity groups took place once a week, while 24 pupils aged 11 and 12 had further workshops and lessons together on white privilege and racial inequality throughout the programme.

Experiments included showing pictures of black children to see seeing how quickly students could associate negative words with them, versus positive words with white children; discussing ‘what it means to be white’, and doing a ‘privilege walk’, where they stepped forward or back in response to questions about their lives.

The programme was devised by Mariama Richards, an American diversity and inclusion practitioner who introduced mandatory affinity programmes in schools in New York and Washington DC, for children as young as eight.

When asked to discuss race, a student named Henry broke down because he was terrified of saying something which could offend someone, admitting: ‘[Before I talk about race] I think about how it’s going to affect me in the future. If I say something bad, early in life, it could come back later in life.’

If the idea really was to “abolish racism”, it’s not working. But the idea is to actually demoralise white kids, and it’s a roaring success.

In the white group, discussion was stilted and the pupils struggled to know what to say, as Mr Grant asked them: ‘Have you ever thought what it means to be white?’

One of the girls admitted: ‘It doesn’t really mean anything to be white.’

Meanwhile in the non-white group, the children danced and laugh and sang as they discuss their respective ethnicities and heritage.

Bright revealed: ‘I love being described as black.’

Observing the difference between the two, Dr Nicola said: ‘The contrast between the two rooms is phenomenal. This room is like a carnival, and this room is like a funeral.’

Any Unz readers up to date on Mariama Richards?

  4. El Dato says:

Kaitlyn Tiffany is a staff writer at The Atlantic, where she covers technology.

“My Little Pony” is “technology” as Silly-con Valley is “innovation.”

Until now. Following a new wave of Black Lives Matter protests across the United States, the fandom is in an all-out civil war, forced to either confront or deny what it’s let go on for so long. The abrupt reckoning has raised an existential question for internet spaces large and small: If you’ve gone online to live in a fantasy space, can you avoid taking responsibility when the real world finds its way in?

UNTIL NOW! “The real world finds its way in!” Sounds like more THOUGHTCRIME has to be mercilessly extirpated and uprooted from virtual spaces then?

Next up in the Atlantic: “Girls und Panzer!”

I remember when this came out, conservatives weren’t bashing the Muslims for not submitting their kids to this nonsense.

  13. In the Soviet Union, there was a concept of “internal exile,” where people isolated themselves from the culture as much as possible as a way to survive and keep some kind of internal sense of integrity.

As pathetic as it seems to me personally, isn’t the bronie phenomenon something similar? People just want space they can socialize without politics or overarching social issues intruding. It used to be that most of the culture was this way. Until the past 5(?) years, sports was like this. But now, you have to go to the strangest, smallest books of culture to find such a social space.

It’s a creeping form of totalitarianism and I don’t expect it to get better.

    @NJ Transit Commuter

This is textbook fascism. Of course, people only recognize fascism in other systems. THEIR system is always rooted in justice and equity, not in fascism.

Mussolini (proudly) described fascism/totalitarianism as a system that politicizes everything spiritual and human: “Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state”. Thus Fascism was supposed to be different than previous dictatorships that concerned themselves only with political power. As the name implies, in a totalitarian system, the state is concerned with EVERYTHING.

The Nazis described this process as Gleichschaltung, a difficult to translate word that means something like synchronization. Every individual, every organization, had to dance to the same drum. “Every national voluntary association, and every local club, was brought under Nazi control, from industrial and agricultural pressure groups to sports associations, football clubs, male voice choirs, women’s organizations—in short, the whole fabric of associational life was Nazified.” (Wikipedia).

We are seeing Gleichschaltung in action in America right now. Every corporation, every organization for the last couple of weeks has been “on message” (the message being “Black Lives Matter”) even if the organization has absolutely nothing to do with the lives of black people. The Gleichschaltung went beyond US borders – they were holding demonstrations in favor of black people in countries that don’t even HAVE any black people.

Right now in the US we have a strange situation where the Left (nominally) does not control the Federal state. This has only made them more eager to exert their totalitarian influence in all other spheres.

As pathetic as it seems to me personally, isn’t the bronie phenomenon something similar? People just want space they can socialize without politics or overarching social issues intruding.

I remember this phenomenon starting 10 years ago, I think, back before BLM kicked off and it was the neocon-dominated right that was the crazy side of the political aisle.

I think GamerGate is a much better example, something I appreciate only now after we broke down and let our boys get a XBox. Gaming is one of the last major cultural spaces still pretty much free of PC indoctrination and- more fundamentally- a place where boys still get to be boys- there is a whole cultural ecosystem of memes and jokes about gaming and gaming YouTubers that is totally engrossing to millions of boys- my 11 year old, for example, printed a hoodie for his best friend which the friend still cherishes based on some gamer meme he created with clip art and Microsoft Paint.

GamerGate also shows the way forward. In GamerGate the lying media declared victory and then ran off the field with its tail between its legs, because gaming is one area where you still cannot fundamentally insult the customer- despite the gaming platform itself being owned by an increasingly POZ’d corporate monopoly, the games themselves are created by a plethora of relatively independent (and often BASED Eastern European-based) game studios. The moral of the story being- oppose corporate centralization, support trust-busting regulation!

When a school tried a version of this on my kid a few years ago, I was able to head it off with a letter to the teacher. But I wonder if that would work now. It seems like you either have to go full Muslim Rage Boy, or roll over and accept the Poz.

And since this indoctrination/humiliation program is aimed exclusively at whites rather than at straights or Christians, you can’t build cross-cultural alliances (Muslim straights or black Christians or whatever). All your objections will immediately be framed as “evil racist nazi rightwinger”. You may lose your employment and be threatened by a mob.

I remember this U.K. school business. Yes the Muslims did form alliances with local Christian groups. This was probably a mistake on the part of the Christians, because the leftists who up until then had ignored the issue immediately jumped on them, accusing them of all the usual things. It was even implied that the Christians were the secret string-pullers who had put the Muslims up to it. They basically became a P.C. lightning rod for all the suppressed anger the liberal/left was feeling over the issue.

A small subset of the current wave of hypno-porn programming that is happening under the radar, also has to do with the “bronies”. Yes, there is “hypno pony” programming going on for those who “really want to become pony X”.

The next time you see a “weird news” report about someone having a fetish lifestyle as a cow, or a deer, or a “bimbo sissy slut” what have you–remember to add “hypno training” to the equation. As well as the teens and midlife crisis people declaring they are now tranny sluts (and trying to be glamorous and sexy, as opposed to the 1% actual dysphoria sufferers who want to be left alone).

Just like it should be automatic when you see a “white” pundit explaining how whites are guilty of everything and should just move over, to see if this person is a (((fellow white person))) or married to one, so with the new extreme fetishes it should be a similar automatic habit to what extent does it stand upon a foundation of new hypno techniques from (((unknown producers))) who use automated voices or pay others to narrate.

    https://mlpforums.com/topic/106041-pony-hypnosis-beginners-thread/

The fact that society is pretending youtube and audio sites are not currently deluged with hypno programs snaring youths and unstable adults left and right is very, very, VERY shortsighted.

Pretending Bambi Sleep isn’t happening is on par with pretending fentanyl isn’t happening, or like for 50 years people pretended a takeover of state, media, and academic institutions isn’t happening. There’ll be hell to pay. Because “tulpa takeover” is marketed as a “fun sexy hobby” now by certain forces. Such as the MindGeek corporation.

  45. Was My Little Pony shown on TV during a time slot when unemployed men would be sitting in their basement watching TV? Like around lunch time? It could be the reason in gained a grown male fan base. If it is on after the morning game and talk shows and before the afternoon soaps, this is the demographic that is watching. Reruns of old 60’s TV and old cartoons, for example, the Munsters, or Underdog cartoons, would be shown during this time slot. Control Data Institute used to advertise heavily on UHF stations in the 70’s around lunchtime to get unemployed men to sign up. So you would see their commercials run during old Magilla Gorilla and Bullwinkle cartoons.

The only reason Buttercup Dew is featured at Counter-Currents is because he’s gay, like the editor and publisher there Greg Johnson/Trevor Lynch. Gays tend to promote each other. A straight man who was into cartoon ponies would be considered a weirdo and freak and not be featured, but because he’s gay he benefits from gay nepotism. Other openly gay writers like James J. We also have the bizarre global situation where a significant percentage of the group (say 30%) that created the modern world hate themselves.

That 30% would be those with an IQ from 90 to about 106 — smart enough to be organized by the Left (memorize “good” and “bad” categories and actually believe them) and to go to college these days, but not smart enough to succeed in office work or understand abstractions such as “freedom”.

In that range, people do not understand the modern world, the modern world has very little for them to do, and as you would imagine they can be talked into believing that the world is evil and they are good, as the Left which taught them (and is often paying them) is good.

You might be able to get their attention if the Left stopped paying them and, as Yossarian said of new bomber crews, once many of them had been killed and the rest wounded trying to take a police station or trying to rule CHOP.

Trump’s firing the head of the Manhattan Federal persecutors office is a good start at cutting off the Left’s money, since much of the money flows through Manhattan.

Of course, people only recognize fascism in other systems. THEIR system is always rooted in justice and equity, not in fascism.

Spot on, Jack D. Most of our fellow Americans are very willing to believe America’s process politics pretty much ensures the legitimacy, often rightfulness, of policy directions, legislation, administrative acts, etc. Consent of the governed, of the people/by the people, all that. They believe, even when it’s obvious to an experienced observer that process has been hammered to deliver a preordained result satisfactory to our elites.

When looking at Hitler, Stalin, Mao, that whole bunch, few Americans are willing to concede those regimes had their own processes of legitimation that lulled people, reassured them, squelched dissent. They look right away at consequences (war, mass killing, famine), and, many, I believe, think to themselves: “Thank God I don’t live in a country as screwed up as XYZ”.

My Little Pony is the best thing on TV. Maybe that’s a sad commentary, but it is a really good show. It’s actually a great introduction to philosophy for children.

Some of the episodes deal with worker alienation, epistemology, just off the top of my head.

Here Rarity decides to close her boutique in Canterlot because of the soul-crushing effects of being called upon to make the same dress over and over again for mass consumption.

Scholarly Twilight Sparkle explores the role of intuition vs. empirical confirmation and is repeatedly punished for her hubris:

There are some episodes with a clear multicultural agenda, but it doesn’t pervade the whole show, and I’m certainly not surprised that it has drawn the attention of TPTB.

BTW, Buttercup Dew is a jackass. He has openly promoted normalization of buggery by married men to diminish women’s power in their relationships.

The whole “Brony” subculture does seem to be significantly gay or transgender, certainly more so than Nazi.

There’s definitely a few trans brony types in the tech world. Many of them I suspect are pedophiles. If you’re an adult who is stuck psychologically in the mind of a child, you will be attracted to children sexually.

It reminds me of a former colleague who had a whole room in his house of dedicated to toys and kids memorabilia. Mid-30s. He suddenly developed an interest in ‘saving the lemurs’ of Madagascar. Turns out he was taking holidays to Madagascar to fuck kids. ‘Saving the lemurs’ is a good euphemism for when perverts do public-spirited things in order to feed their perversions, like when drag queens are ‘doing good’ by reading to schoolkids etc.

In an indication of what was to come, the founder of the New York Times’ 1619 Project penned a lengthy racist screed attacking all white people in 1995.

Nikole Hannah-Jones, the lead essayist on New York Times Magazine’s 1619 Project, wrote a letter to the editor in Notre Dame’s The Observer stating that “the white race is the biggest murderer, rapist, pillager, and thief of the modern world.”

Hannah-Jones claims Africans arrived in North America long before Europeans, but that unlike Europeans, Africans befriended and traded with the indigenous people. She claims pyramids in Mexico are a symbol of said friendship.

It’s too bad that the stuff about Blacks in the pre-Columbian Americas didn’t make it into the 1619 PROJECT….

Not that I approve of her anyway, but that’s an unfair criticism. Lots of people don’t know how to smile for the camera. It can be difficult in a posed, non-impromptu setting like a professional head shot: can’t look too eager or too goofy, can’t scowl, hard to get right: if this was posed, then it’s the photographer who isn’t doing her any favors. At least she’s not making a duck face.

That and 1:1 scale preserved railways. Non-whites very, very rarely visit them and as for working/volunteering – never in my (European) experience. As far as I can tell the only non-whites with any serious interest in the models or the real thing are Japanese.

that adult white males may have any interest in cartoon characters directed to seven-year old girls

MLP has purportedly broken out of its little-girl ghetto due to its first-rate writing, first with little boys (who will read books with girl protagonists when they’re very good), then with older folks. Some of the most discussed literature of the last sixty years has been “kids’ stuff”–Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, The Simpsons. Because what product adults have been offered has been wretched.

I was in a TV lounge with a Chinese grad student when The Muppet Show came on. He couldn’t believe I refused to change it. But hell, what else was available ca. 1990? An adult could easily enjoy that show, and get many jokes the kids would miss.

The only decent music I’ve heard since the turn of the century has been written for children’s productions. Particularly Mike O’Donnell and Junior Campbell’s work for Thomas the Tank Engine. You can’t fool kids.

The two finest most sophisticated works of popular American art of the past twenty years have been two cartoons: “Adventure Time” (esp seasons 2-5) and Disney’s “Frozen”. There’s nothing to compare them to. There’s been a couple of other very good movies and series (though not many), but nothing that functions on the plane of high art the way those two do.

In fairness, ‘white’ isn’t an identity in Europe. ‘What does it mean to be English or British’ would be more interesting. But those terms can’t be used in an ethnic sense anymore. So there are no ‘woke’ terms for her to use. The government uses ‘White British’, ‘White Irish’ and ‘White Other’ but ‘White Other’ is probably also un-PC towards the large numbers of EU migrants.

Here is a quote I left as a comment in 2010, and again in 2015, so it seems it is due again…

“The Reds had found that the easiest way to subdue any group of people was to give its members a guilt complex and then to lead them on from self-denunciation to self-betrayal. All that was required to put this across was a sufficiently heartless exploitation of the essential goodness in people, so that they would seek self-sacrifice to compensate for their feelings of guilt. The self-sacrifice obviously made available to them in this inside-out environment is some form of treason.”— Brainwashing, From Pavlov to Powers, Edward Hunter, page 169.

A small subset of the current wave of hypno-porn programming that is happening under the radar, also has to do with the “bronies”. Yes, there is “hypno pony” programming going on for those who “really want to become pony X”.

This reminds me of a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comic strip parodying Carlos Castanada’s Teachings of Don Juan, where a brujah mesmerized Fat Freddy into believing that he was a crow, then a coyote and so on. Also, Aleister Crowley turning Victor Neuberg into a camel.

Disagree. As Reg Caesar mentioned above, little boys will consume culture directed to girls as long as it is very good, and that is very much to their credit. Likewise, girls will consume little boys’ culture, again if it is very good. The best culture appeals to both.

If little boys watch and like it, it’s to be expected that big brothers will wind up liking it, too.

Now, certainly dudes who dress up as Rainbow Dash for conventions and such are strange at the very least, but there’s nothing wrong with merely liking and watching the show.

I said that it was high art, not good pedagogy. I’m familiar with those sorts of criticisms, and they have their validity — when discussing what to teach small children.

Great art has its own prerogatives. I don’t think I’d be teaching too many ethics courses using Act One of “Die Walkure” as a source. But I also don’t go to the opera to hear John Stuart Mill.

The characters are what makes the show. A primer on the “Mane 6.”

Rainbow Dash (Glory) and Fluttershy (Service)

    Earth Ponies: Indispensable Bronze souls

Apple Jack (Industry) and Pinkie Pie (Mirth)

Different fans will break it down in different ways, but that’s how I see it.

And the hierarchical connotations are present in the show, but not to the Platonic extent.
