Jennifer Weiner, author of the New York Times oped “I Want to Burn the Frat House of America to the Ground,” is back with a New York Times lament about how emotional, loud, angry women get ignored. (Jennifer Weiner should not be confused with Jennifer Senior, the NYT’s new full time oped columnist and author of the lament “The Jocks Will Inherit the Earth.”)

How Do I Explain Justice Kavanaugh to My Daughters?

The spectacle of this confirmation has reminded us that to many people, women’s suffering is a joke.

  1. When will the winning end? Not as long as whiny losers write crap like this.

  2. It’s a very simple explanation:

In what’s left of America, as in all remotely free societies, people are innocent until proven guilty, and unsubstantiated ravings do not constitute probative evidence.

There; that was a quick and easy conversation.

But what about how Dr. Blasey feels?

You are ignoring her when she has the right to have her feelings validated.

And in essence you are saying that nothing happened to her.

Blah...blah...blah...I could go on--I didn't even get to the white man/patriarchy/ oppression stuff but it's all so excruciatingly dull.

  3. So, let me get this straight. This author is Jennifer Weiner, Junior? Or Jennifer Junior Weiner?

  4. … Emotional women, loud women, angry women get ignored.

That’s what I told my daughter, along with “never ever be crude and common” and “You are a Princess so behave like one”. And she grew up to be such a fine person.

I take it Weiner is not offering the advice in this spirit?

  5. If only.

  6. Emotional women, loud women, angry women get ignored.

Yeah, because it is unpleasant to be yelled at and disrespected. You can get amazingly far by being nice to people, even faking being nice.

In addition to zero awareness, these people have zero social skills.

Being loud, angry and emotional obviously is not the same as being disrespectful. I am rather astounded that you need this spelled out for you.

Having said that, there is a relatively high correlation.

Those women get ignored because emotion, loudness and anger are not useful in a court of law; are, in fact, inimical to the process of discovering and administering justice. On the other hand, quiet consideration of verifiable evidence followed by detached deliberation are useful. Perhaps she should try them.

  7. Emotional, loud, angry women would not be ignored if I was in charge. They would be heavily medicated and institutionalized.

If she lost a few pounds (not too many actually) she’d likely have a pretty nice figure. Like a lot of women with large boobs the body doesn’t discriminate enough with the fat placement and just sort of throws it to the front abdomen area in general.

I saw a piece recently taking the position that Williams' ravings and Kavanaugh's testimony were comparable but Williams was punished whereas Kavanaugh was not, thus an unfair double standard exists.

Of course, the two situations are not comparable. Williams was playing a game of tennis. Her rôle was to play tennis, keep her mouth shut (or at any rate not badmouth the referees), and abide by the referees' decisions. This is generally called "sportsmanship." (Uh-oh! "Gendered language!"). Kavanaugh was testifying in his defense at a hearing. His rôle was to speak on his behalf, which necessarily in that context means arguing against the accusations. His strident words, if one insists on characterising them as such, were entirely appropriate to the venue. Williams' were not at all. (Indeed, words from her had no place at all in that venue.)

Truly, logic and objective analysis of the matter at hand are to be utterly disregarded in favour of hysterical emotions in the eyes of Weiner et al.. They've no grasp of the concept that what is appropriate in one context may not be appropriate in another. We shout and act a bit silly and obnoxious at parties on New Year's Eve or rock 'n' roll concerts. We keep quiet, or, perhaps, weep and wail (maybe even hysterically; that's okay and understandable) at funerals. We wear shorts to the beach, but suits in courtrooms. And so on. This stuff is not complicated.

I think the problem with a lot of these women is basically a failure of socialization. Most of them probably went from the houses of their henpecked fathers, on to ultra-feminist universities, then into the arms of a series of pussy-whipped boyfriends ultimately ending up with the hopelessly beta husband (or “partner” as many of them will unironically insist on calling “him”). They’re so used to men catering to their inane sensibilities and arbitrary whims that any indication of a male spine causes them to short circuit.

The murderous, terroristic rhetoric is also a form of empowerment, I guess? I blame Wonder Woman and Game of Thrones.

Problem is, weak-brained liberal women--and that means most of them--have a poor grasp of Logic and take this to mean, "therefore, if I'm not well-behaved, I will make history". Armed with this bit of sophistry they defend their lack of manners and misbehavior as being the manifestations of Genius and any male who protests is standing in the way of Progress.

Similar to the sign some women hang in their kitchens "A clean house is the sign of a dull woman". A word of advise; don't eat there.

Spot on. This used to be something only a small percentage of people (intellectuals/professors) would do to their children. Now, for liberals, it's mandatory at all levels and it is bleeding over to people who are not necessarily liberals. We used to live in a society that told children to ignore certain things, but now we can't ignore anything. Nothing. Everything requires a response, and the more emotional the better. It's partly due to the ubiquity of the internet and cable news, exacerbated by 10 year old children with phones. Mostly, however, it is the times we live in, over feminization and the fact that no one acts with any comportment anymore.

It was pretty much what I had when I was a young teenager: check the fine print and we discover that your local paper is owned by, of all the things, a corporation! [throws local paper on the ground] He then repeated the phrase "right wing slant" many times without ever clarifying or giving examples, beyond one in which police corruption was under-reported; the normal /pol/ complaint about media bias takes the form of going straight to examples and letting the preponderance of the evidence do the work.
I wonder how much of our political situation cones from the number of people who examine their presuppositions versus the number of people whose political thinking is however far they got as they learned to drive.

When this was being sold circa 1970, the marketing scam was that women were going to gain new freedoms, but in turn be responsible for themselves. Hence they'd actually be like "partners" for men--no longer would be have to pull their weight--and it would be win, win.

This is at the root of it. These women have been taught that the highest, most noble status belongs to "victims" and "survivors" and the worst people are "the privileged". But when they look in the mirror they see someone who looks kind of "privileged" herself - to an outsider (say a black person in the ghetto) the life of a Becky doesn't seem to be much different or oppressed than that of a Chad. Same house, same nice schools, same access to $, etc. BF seems just as "privileged" as that horrible man, Brett. They have to get some Victim Pokemon Points of their own to put some distance between themselves and Brett and give themselves some street cred with the CotF. Portraying yourself as a "rape survivor" or impaired by the invisible (what is it with these people and invisible?) glass ceiling is a great way to do this.

How do you explain it to your daughters? The same way you undoubtedly explain. abortion, homosexuality is a healthy alternative, and how to be a good transgender advocate. I’m sure you have no trouble explaining any of that to your children. Right after the court justice speech explain how gays make babies.

  121. “reminded us that to many people, women’s suffering is a joke.”

It has forever been thus. Imagine the horror of being impregnated by an incubus and there being doubters?

Having a social support network of like-minded similarly acculturated people who who care for you, believe your stories and defend you is very important, unless of course that support group is whites defending their own culture and people from defamation and scapegoating in which case it is hate.

It's always the lament, "How do I explain WXYZ to my daughters?"

Who does this to their children? It appears as a form of child abuse by projecting the parent's child-like insecurity/naivety/disappointment/narcissism/neuroticism on to the child.

Spot on. This used to be something only a small percentage of people (intellectuals/professors) would do to their children. Now, for liberals, it’s mandatory at all levels and it is bleeding over to people who are not necessarily liberals. We used to live in a society that told children to ignore certain things, but now we can’t ignore anything. Nothing. Everything requires a response, and the more emotional the better. It’s partly due to the ubiquity of the internet and cable news, exacerbated by 10 year old children with phones. Mostly, however, it is the times we live in, over feminization and the fact that no one acts with any comportment anymore.

    We have no more grown-ups.

Are you saying we have morphed into a society of 16-year old girls going "hormonal"?

Every parent who has a teenage girl knows the routine. It's a contest. The more emotion that she can bring to a "thing" means that she is right and everyone else is wrong. A perfect paradigm of this is the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearing.

This is the price that society pays for gender equality. Going forward, it adds organizational friction and a lot of drama for everything affected by the normalization of women into traditional male activities. However, going forward, women will be close to 50% of the vote ... they are here to stay and they are gluttons for attention.

A way will have to be found to console them when the Male Patriarchy doesn't give them the attention they believe they deserve ... to avoid something as emotional, loud, and angry as the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearing.

'The spectacle of this confirmation has reminded us that to many people, women’s suffering is a joke.'

To many of us, the notion that Ms. Ford's rather trivial experience is what constitutes 'suffering' is something of a bitter joke.

I am in awe at the lives apparently devoid of real trauma and pain that figures such as Ms. Weiner must live.

This is at the root of it. These women have been taught that the highest, most noble status belongs to “victims” and “survivors” and the worst people are “the privileged”. But when they look in the mirror they see someone who looks kind of “privileged” herself – to an outsider (say a black person in the ghetto) the life of a Becky doesn’t seem to be much different or oppressed than that of a Chad. Same house, same nice schools, same access to $, etc. BF seems just as “privileged” as that horrible man, Brett. They have to get some Victim Pokemon Points of their own to put some distance between themselves and Brett and give themselves some street cred with the CotF. Portraying yourself as a “rape survivor” or impaired by the invisible (what is it with these people and invisible?) glass ceiling is a great way to do this.

  126. The spectacle of this confirmation has reminded us that to many people, women’s suffering is a joke.

Where’s the lie, tho? (White) women’s suffering kinda is a joke. At least, the stuff they’re bitching about in Big Media, anyway; real suffering, pleb suffering, is probably way too icky to talk about.

You are either badasses who need a man like a fish needs a bicycle, or you are basket cases looking for a place to pull your car over so you can cry and scream for 20 minutes about the Patriarchy’s Latest Atrocity.

You nailed the crux of it.

When this was being sold circa 1970, the marketing scam was that women were going to gain new freedoms, but in turn be responsible for themselves. Hence they'd actually be like "partners" for men--no longer would be have to pull their weight--and it would be win, win.

    LOL.

The freedom part arrived. Actually being responsible for anything? -- even themselves? Fuggetaboutit.

Feminism: maximum freedom for women; maximum responsibility for men.

And, on the other hand, they get to work in an office 40 hours a week on top of all the “women’s work” they still have to do at home. Both sexes were scammed, and both are worse off.
