By the way, when Raj Chetty’s big “Equality of Opportunity” study of income mobility by county from 1996-2012 reports that the 25 best counties in the U.S. are all on the Great Plains, such as number one-ranked Sioux County, Iowa (where farmland reached the $20,000 per acre milestone in 2013), he doesn’t get that that’s an artifact of this Chinese Supercycle that now appears to be winding down. In the near-future, some other, as of yet-unknown, type of counties will likely do amazing well for awhile, just as windswept Great Plains counties did over the course of Chetty’s study.

The younger (under-35) St Paul Hmong I’ve known have birthplaces all over the western US. yet they’re here now. I strongly suspect most of those Somalis in St Cloud will be living in Minneapolis ten years from now. There they have contacts and, at least for the women, jobs. Well, if we did as you suggested, there is a danger that a lot of them may get killed fighting their fellow African-Americans, and we can't have that. When I was in university, anti-globalization was all the rage. But I hear recent college grads/students who work in my English school embracing globalization as a way of, basically, forcing integration and destroying any vestiges of traditional cultures worldwide.

Normal Upper Midwesterners find it easier to retreat and stay silent for fear of being called racist. So when they decide to unload thousands of Somalis and Hmong into MN, one of the whitest and blondest areas in the country, people keep their mouth shut.
The main problem we face is the trickle-down effect of mainstream media owners’ liberalism. Somehow they need to be replaced. I’m not sure how, but I am convinced that our current trajectory will no change as long as they have power.
Minnesota benefited massively from the now-receding oil boom in next door neighbor North Dakota. North Dakota was too sparsely populated to handle all the economic activity generated by the fracking boom, so it created a ton of jobs for accountants, lawyers, and other white-collar workers in the Twin Cities as well as sucked away blue-collar Minnesota workers looking for work.
I drove through Minnesota a few weeks ago. At a rest stop I learned the state’s name means something like “sky-colored water” in the Sioux language.

At the national level, we exported all of the industries which actually make stuff to China and elsewhere, but we allowed large numbers of immigrants (preferably 3rd world) to enter the U.S. to “fill those jobs” and make up for the declining birth rate of white Americans. If such magical thinking can work at the national level, then surely it can work at the state level, especially in such an advanced and progressive state like Minnesota. BTW I wonder if those 10,000 workers who lost their jobs in nearby North Dakota can be put to work in thriving Minnesota. On second thought, nah. Only Somalis can fit in in Minnesota, since their culture is so similar to that of Minnesota.

When I still lived in Minneapolis I always thought the fastest way to get rid of Somalis would be to change the law. Make it so the rich Lutheran church wives in Edina and St. Louis Park who give their hand me down minivans to Somalis have to have a Somali on their block or better yet in their house. Years ago the State Department tried to resettle the initial wave of Somalis to Atlanta. The Somalis didn’t like ‘the brothers’ there and, being an intercontinental vagrant population, had scouts who reported that Maine, with its almost entirely white population offered more value per welfare dollar. The Atlanta Somalis decamped en masse to Lewiston, Maine. It was quite a story at the time as the poor folks in Maine suddenly had stone age people showing up in town.

Supply and Demand: Big business demands cheap labor, and politicians supply it.
I’ve lived in St Cloud for about thirty years. Up until about twenty years ago we were about 99% white in a metropolitan area of 100,000 (excluding the inmates of the local prison). We were fairly called “White Cloud”.
In the 1990’s, developers with Section 8 vacancies imported blacks from the Chicago and Gary Ind. areas. Previously unknown violent crime followed.
As Reg Caesar indicated previously, in the late ’90’s, Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Charities started settling Somalis in to St Cloud to the point now where there are about 5,000. Apparently we were starving for the benefits of diversity. Affirmative discrimination has progressed so far that this 95% white area has successively appointed a black police chief, a black transit director, and now a black school superintendent. They are punishing us for our whiteness.
Unlike the Somalis who settled in Minneapolis’s Cedar-Riverside area, the Somalis in St Cloud are not a source of excessive crime. We’d rather have them than the Chicago/Gary blacks we now have.
Generally, Somalis are quiet and keep to themselves. The older Somali men reflect a patriarchal society that rubs local white women the wrong way. The teen Somali girls who have been here many years seem to have acclimated better than the majority of Somalis whose allegiance doesn’t seem to have transplanted to America.
A few months ago, a facebook photo of a Somali girl in a wheelchair suggesting she was a terrorists resulted the Somalis disrupting their high school. CAIR jumped in to agitate the local Somalis. By the way, about one week after the incident, six Somalis from Minneapolis were indeed indicted for attempting to join a terrorist group.
When a local VFW invited a speaker from California to speak about the refugee program, the local SJWs blocked access to the venue. Weeks later, the speaker was able to give their talk in a private venue. No fireworks ensued.
Gov. Dayton came to St. Cloud and the local NAACP meeting as one-upsmanship to the locals who were trying to figure out any excessive benefits that refugees receive. Dayton’s visit was intended to keep the rubes in their place and empower the existing SJWs to continue to use affirmative discrimination.
When I first came to St Cloud from the Twin Cities thirty years ago, I was stunned by the friendliness and trusting nature of the locals. That is now changing thanks to the SJWs who know what is good for us.
I wish, and not facetiously, that somehow we could import more Amish and Mennonites. hardest working, God fearing people I have ever met. Western New York , especially south of Buffalo and northeast along Lake Ontario, became a magnet for family groups when farm land prices tanked. Self sufficient and honest too .

You’re describing the entire Midwest, if not the entire mid-section of the country. I’ve lived here all my life and the area is rapidly transforming from a high-trust culture to a low-trust culture. The annihilation of the manufacturing sector, combined with Fortune 500’s insistence on replacing an ever-increasing percent of its ever-diminishing workforce with Indians on visas, is making for a very bitter, very disconnected society.

Let me add, when it comes to corporate America, the real enemies are the whites who are purposefully reducing the percent of their workforce that is American citizen. They hate the competition from middle class white men, they hate the employment mobility of the average American citizen, and want as many indentured servants as possible as a replacement.
While they’re at it, those Minnesotans should go ahead and repeal the ban on first cousin marriage that would put the icing on the cake for the Somali-Americans welcomed into America’s heartland. Either you accept the vibrant diversity of Somali culture or you don’t.

It would be interesting to gather some solid data on Somali immigrants in every Western country where they live in substantial numbers. All the limited data I’ve seen suggests that they perform horrifically on every social metric regardless of which country they’re in – extremely high rates of welfare dependency, extremely low rates of employment, etc. They don’t even seem to be all that prominent in the traditional black niches of entertainment and athletics (but I repeat myself).
Any politician suggesting we have any need of Somalis for any reason is clearly stupid, crazy, or lying.
The problem with politicians is they’re bad at Math. GDP growth can be actual increase of living standards or the end result of inflation. The DOW is going toward 20,000, but $20,000 today is not what it was thirty years ago. Thirty years ago $20,000 could buy you a real sweet luxury car and still have enough to pay for gas. Now a cheap jeep costs almost that much. These GDP numbers that go up now are well below inflation. The Federal Government tells you there is no inflation, but that’s because a half point more of interest on their massive debts would have them living in trailers or pushing shopping carts after their checks started bouncing like super balls. If you go shopping now, the only shit you can buy that costs as much as when W was in the White House is the stuff at thrift shops that cater to homeless bums who live on the street. Everything else cost two or three times as much or comes in containers that look like they come out of Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels from the Land of Lilliputians.
This ain’t the new normal, its a downward spiral that leads to a radical change in lifestyles for the people and the government. Billionaires are buying panic rooms and building underground bunkers for when the people have had enough of free trade and cheap labor and want to Eat the Rich because the chicken isn’t available anymore.
