From the New York Times:

Left Behind by Migrant Husbands, Women Break the Rules and Go to Work

Wives are shocking their traditional West African villages by earning money and running large households while their husbands are in Europe seeking jobs.

Khadijah Diagouraga hooking up her donkey to haul water from the well in Koutia, a village in rural Senegal.

By Dionne Searcey
Dec. 30, 2019, 12:01 a.m. ET

KOUTIA, Senegal — Years had passed since her husband had crossed the sea to look for work in Europe. Left behind, Khadijah Diagouraga trudged to the couple’s peanut fields alone every day, struggling to earn enough to provide for an extended family of 13.

When the town’s water pump broke and her faucet went dry, she tied a donkey to a cart to haul water from a nearby well, cursing her absent husband the whole way. Her action shocked this small, conservative village in rural Senegal. Guiding animals was men’s work, village leaders said.

“It’s not a sight I ever wanted to see,” said Baba Diallo, 70, sitting in the shade of a dried cornstalk canopy, shaking his head as if to rid himself of the memory.

Across West Africa, villages have been emptied of husbands and sons in their prime who set out for Europe to look for work and never returned. Women, realizing they might never see the money their men promised to send home, have gradually taken on what are seen as men’s roles, earning money and running large households of in-laws and other extended family members. ,,,

She hooked up the donkey to plow, and to haul water from the well. She started to earn a bit of cash from her harvest and set up a shop selling tea and sandwiches.

She heard hushed comments from onlookers. She saw them staring. Women should rely on charity, some of the men said. Others said she wasn’t strong enough. Some said they felt sorry for her….

And then she got to work, soaking beans for dinner and sweating as she ran behind a donkey, urging it to hoist pails of water from a deep well.

Some of the village’s few remaining young men were sprawled nearby in the shade. They lifted their heads to watch her on that baking afternoon. …

They had been there for hours doing nothing, Mr. Diawara said, daydreaming about sailing to Europe.

As the end of this slyly written article implies, women have always done most of the work outside the home in sub-Saharan Africa. The light tropical soil means that weeding of the fields has been largely done with hoes wielded by women, while in Eurasia plowing was man’s work. In Africa, feminist organizations complain that men don’t do enough work.

  4. … villages have been emptied of husbands and sons …

Completely innumerate BS – we WISH western Africa had been emptied by only the few millions that have entered Europe so far. That means, they didn’t have but a few million people to begin with (including those 13 kids per family, right!) Then, the Euros with any guts could detain those few million, and send them back when they were 65, letting the rest of western Africa die out due to a lack of sexual relations.

In Africa, feminist organizations complain that men don’t do enough work.

Yea, but when they do get up off their asses, it’s for equal pay – men, women, the non-binary, all of them get the same – exactly Jack Squat. Isn’t that good? Well, as Sigmund Fraud complained “what do feminists want?”

She saw them staring. Women should rely on charity, some of the men said. Others said she wasn’t strong enough. Some said they felt sorry for her….

But none got off his ass to help … Careful, Mr. Searcey, you’lre awful close to noticing some stuff that we don’t approve of noticing.

  5. But … isn´t this exactly what the feminists are tirelessly working for?

The patriarchy* (more aptly called patrislabbery) is above all the neolithic adaptation (to include monogamy) to fully utilize male labour, with attendant k selection.
Smashing the patriarchy and reverting to sexual selection will return us to dung huts and cannibalism in like no time.
… which begs the question why the dames do not retire their sorry posteriors to where those wonders of liberation are – at least they could finally, unoppressed by those stinking White men, work for a living 😛

  20. ‘…The light tropical soil means that weeding of the fields has been largely done with hoes wielded by women, while in Eurasia plowing was man’s work. In Africa, feminist organizations complain that men don’t do enough work.’

My hypothesis is that there always was a division between women’s work and men’s work. In paleolithic societies, man generally hunt, and women gather. As the technology develops, women move from merely gathering to actually farming; while men continue to hunt, and with rising population density, eventually exhaust the supply of game. If herding is an option, men turn to that — but farming would definitely be defined as ‘women’s work.’

There would follow an interval in which women farmed, while men either herded or did little or nothing. Presumably, society eventually evolves out of that, but perhaps blacks in Africa are still at that stage. How long ago was it that agriculture came to most of Africa? What was the pattern among, say, North American Indians?

  22. Unlike their Hispanic fellows, it would seem the Black men don’t send money home. Although from the sound of the environment these women work under, there’s no mechanism for money to flow anyway. By all accounts, 99% of the men are on welfare in Europe. Those guys were just refugees from their wives and 13 children. They should only have been allowed in if they had their families with them. Single Black men (they hadda be 95% of those that came up) should have been banned from entry from the start, it was obvious they were abandoning their children, wives and the work of the villages these women stayed behind for.

What Europe has today is what suburbs here have, classic undertow. We see it here in that the Black women make it into college and take the EEOC jobs offered throughout the various governments and corporations. Steve probably has some stats on this, but I believe 70% of Black high school women make it to college, single-digit percentages of Black men do, and only single-digit numbers of THOSE men don’t graduate. And 3/4 of Black men have been to prison, they run the streets, they do no particular work or industry. We already know what happens to the 30% of Black women who don’t make it to college and the workforce. They bed and bear the children of the 90% of Black men who have been nowhere but the streets or jail.

The 70% of Black women that made it to college and a job, mortgage and whatever kids? They sit pissed off at the very, VERY few Black men who make it who then hook up with White women, especially the athletes and the EEOC lawyers who are Black men, the Wall Street Black men that manage to get a degree, every firm needs a few. And those Black women aren’t interested in a Blue Collar Black guy, he ain’t shit to them. Strange culture, strange race. Their conflicting interests here in this country are breathtaking. But then, few women marry ‘down’, but especially these..

  23. “Looking for work in Europe” seems to be the African version of going out for a pack of smokes and never coming back.

  24. I might’ve mentioned this before, but about 25 years ago I knew a West African guy, middle-ish class by African standards, recently married, recently blessed with a new daughter, who spoke well of both, who was visiting the US on a temporary visa. Within a few weeks of his arrival, he skipped out on his visa, cashed in the return portion of his plane ticket, and abandoned his “dear” wife and daughter back in Africa forever, so he could live on the lam as an illegal alien in Texas.

At the time I was kind of shocked. Now I pretty much expect it, and am not often disappointed.

I suppose his wife and daughter are pulling water from a well somewhere right now. OTOH, they were probably also doing that before he abandoned them.

  25. As the end of this slyly written article implies, women have always done most of the work outside the home in sub-Saharan Africa.

Not only in Africa but in many parts of Asia as well, and even in some places that are considered geographically Europe (e.g. Caucasus).

However, there’s usually a perceived distinction between “doing work” and “doing business”, with the latter often being off-limits to women.

  26. “Some of the village’s few remaining young men were sprawled nearby in the shade. They lifted their heads to watch her on that baking afternoon. … They had been there for hours doing nothing, Mr. Diawara said…”

Sprawled nearby in the shade. Sheeeeit, that’s the local bus stop. They’re just waiting for the Greyhound promised by Mr. Soros, the one that will deposit them on a beach in Libya with a cheap life jacket, 50 Euros and a prepaid cell phone.

  27. “Across West Africa, villages have been emptied of husbands and sons in their prime who set out for Europe to look for work and never returned.”
I wonder whether this is true. Do numbers add up? Lets say West Africa has around 400 million people. Then it should have around 75 million men in reproductive age. To have a visible effect I think e.g. 20% of those people should have migrated. This would mean 14 million West Africans. Sounds like a lot. Then again it might be true. Up to a million West Africans in each big West European country might be true, and then there are other destinations than Europe, too.
Also maybe it is more like a regional thing, which means that some regions have had much more emigrants than other regions.
Anyway, great news for those males who stay – Not only better male to female ratio but also with the most adventurous and bold out of their way. Chances on the partner market have risen.

Not in all cases. It seems like Senegalese labor is highly sought after in Europe in certain fields. This man’s employer paid 34 million Euros to his previous employer for his services. He will be free to go after completing 5 years of indentured service.

How much does this worker earn? His contract sees him take home some US$225,000 per week, according to The Guardian.

His annual salary of around £7.8million puts him behind Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, his immigrant coworkers in the working class city of Liverpool, England.

His net worth is estimated to be $US 18m.

His endorsement deals include financial services giant Western Union, Indonesia Tourism and New Balance, who sponsor his work boots.

Before his employer sent him on a job in Kiev , Ukraine in 2018, he bought 300 shirts to be sent to his birthplace. They were distributed in the Senegalese village of Bambali where he grew up. They were all the same color. As far as can be determined, he did not meet Hunter Biden, and his US-owned company’s mission was a failure.

It’s not clear if she moved full time to Dakar or went back and forth. It sounds like she got her husband to quit his job (what did he do?) and raise the kids while she was mostly in Africa? I smell a divorce in the works, after the guy gets completely cucked in a tell-all memoir.

    https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/557783/in-pursuit-of-disobedient-women-by-dionne-searcey/

When a reporter for The New York Times uproots her family to move to West Africa, she manages her new role as breadwinner while finding women cleverly navigating extraordinary circumstances in a forgotten place for much of the Western world.

In 2015, Dionne Searcey was covering the economy for The New York Times, living in Brooklyn with her husband and three young children. Saddled with the demands of a dual-career household and motherhood in an urban setting, her life was in a rut. She decided to pursue a job as the paper’s West Africa bureau chief, an amazing but daunting opportunity to cover a swath of territory encompassing two dozen countries and 500 million people. Landing with her family in Dakar, Senegal, she quickly found their lives turned upside down as they struggled to figure out their place in this new region, along with a new family dynamic where she was the main breadwinner flying off to work while her husband stayed behind to manage the home front.

In Pursuit of Disobedient Women follows Searcey’s sometimes harrowing, sometimes rollicking experiences of her work in the field, the most powerful of which, for her, center on the extraordinary lives and struggles of the women she encounters. As she tries to get an American audience subsumed by the age of Trump and inspired by a feminist revival to pay attention, she is gone from her family for sometimes weeks at a time, covering stories like Boko Haram — conscripted teen-girl suicide bombers or young women in small villages shaking up social norms by getting out of bad marriages. Ultimately, Searcey returns home to reconcile with skinned knees and school plays that happen without her and a begrudging husband thrown into the role of primary parent.

Life, for Searcey, as with most of us, is a balancing act. She weaves a tapestry of women living at the crossroads of old-fashioned patriarchy and an increasingly globalized and connected world. The result is a deeply personal and highly compelling look into a modern-day marriage and a world most of us have barely considered. Readers will find Searcey’s struggles, both with her family and those of the women she meets along the way, familiar and relatable in this smart and moving memoir.

Comments are open on the article. Climate change is blamed.

A commenter points out that foreign remittances make up 10 percent of Senegal’s GDP, so somebody’s sending money back.

Another commenter mentions birth control, and is called “mean spirited.”

Completely random African migrants get permanent residency and work permits, and have far more relatives to chain migrate than some high skill Indian or Chinese who may average 1 sibling and 2 first cousins.

I heard a great lecture from an anthropologist and nutritionist who analyzed the hunts organized in hunter gatherer societies in Africa. He found that the big hunts by the men of the village occurred NOT when the village was starving, but when the women and children were able to gather the most fruit, nuts, bugs and other sources of carbs, protein and fats. That surplus was what allowed the men to take a week off to go look for big game.

And when they hunted, they were usually not very good at it. So what was the purpose of these hunts by the men of the village? He hypothesized that it improved their ability to work together during war and helped every man find his place in the pecking order, from the chief and his sons on down.

Also, it’s more fun to go hunting, rather than scratch a living out poor soil, or crawl on your hands and knees looking for berries and bugs.

For Africans it is a good plan I think. Obviously those who get to Europe hit the jackpot. Hedonistic treat mill might let them not always feel that way but material wealth even on welfare is far beyond anything they could have ever had in Africa. Also due to the preferences of European women they have a good life regarding partnership etc. For those who stay it is also a huge win, because as said above the males have far better chances on the partner market and also those societies in general do tend to have to many people and too few good jobs.

When we reached North America we encountered Indians in the early phase of temperate zone agriculture. They sort of tossed seeds everywhere to collect plants later while also hunting, with a small area around the village dedicated to more intensive agriculture.

All the little stores in Senegal were owned by Mauritanians. If a Senegalese wanted to run a little store, he’d go to another country. The reason? Your friends and relatives would ask you for stuff for free, and you would have to say yes. End of your business. You are not allowed to be a selfish individual and say no to relatives. The result: Everyone has nothing.

As shown by her review’s misrepresentation of Skin Deep’s argument, Saini is more reluctant than Evans to acknowledge any inherited differences among population groups. If there really are some genetically transmitted differences among ethnic or regional subsets of the human race, then there might be others. Her response is to deny everything rather than concede anything. But when this strategy culminates in ascribing awareness of Kenyans’ running prowess to “lazy biological essentialism,” Saini inadvertently affirms one of Superior’s targets, blogger Steve Sailer, who says that the definition of racism has expanded to include the “high crime of Noticing Things.”

In sub-saharan Africa, since women do most of the work, men have evolved for the short-term hook-up gene—men are unnecessary for anything but procreation. Its partially why most of their male descendants in America put such emphasis on flashy dress, singing/dancing/acting out ability, hair care, and bodybuilding-looks. All these things are useful in attracting a short-term human mate, but not a long-term one. It’s not for nothing that the “black playa” is a stereotype.

This also leads to black women feeling so hurt by non-black society. In a black society, they get to do the choosing, and can get as fat and as loud and demanding as they want—because the men are performing for them. In non-black societies, men gather the resources more than women, so women are the ones who try to look pretty for men. Since thousands of years of evolution can’t be faked, the ugly fatter black women not only have lost their position in their old society, but are severely physically and behaviorally disadvantaged in non-black mating potential in comparison to the Beckys of the non-black world.

In black Africa, black American women would be “queens” (as they humorously insist), but here they are inverted to the bottom of the pile. I feel bad for them on that one; such an inversion is intrinsically painful at a gut level, even if most of them don’t understand it on an intellectual level. Imagine a fox trying desperately to act like a dog and compete with dogs on being the best dog. Foxes are built for slyness and disloyalty and solitary ways, while dogs have been bread to loyalty, pack-loyalty, and face-to-face fighting.

P.S. this is also partially why the whig ger stereotype is so funny. It’s a non-black trying to ape the male-short-term hookup genes of black males, but non-blacks evolved to do the opposite—to have long-term mates, and you can’t fool mother nature.

Here’s a kicker. Male can impregnate multiple females. What matters at the end of the day is how many kids a female has (fertility rate). That’s why male contraception is less than useful … if this Black gets into jail, the other one will be able to impregnate Black mamacita. That’s why Planned Parenthood is so useful, it helps with providing contraception to those least likely to use contraception … low-IQ population regardless of race (more likely to be Black since Black on average have lower IQ) and preventing disgenics.
Because of this, even if 10% of prime age Black males moved to Europe (40-50 million) it wouldn’t have a lot of effect on African demographics in the long run. Providing educational opportunities and empowering females will.

Its partially why most of their male descendants in America put such emphasis on flashy dress, singing/dancing/acting out ability, hair care, and bodybuilding-looks.

This is due in part to lack of job opportunities compared to black women. Employers favor black women over men because of fear that black men will use their financial gains to compete for white women in the dating market. It’s the same reason that employers favor gay black men over straight ones…they pose no sexual threat. https://www.lovebscott.com/study-shows-gay-black-men-are-more-likely-to-earn-a-higher-salary-than-straight-men

Fwiw I don’t think black men go out of their way to pursue non-black women, but that’s often the perception among other races. In any case, research shows that women in developed countries evaluate mates more so based on looks than ability to provide, which explains why so few white women are eager to marry and have kids. It’s just funner to share a sexy hot ‘Chad’ than be in a relationship with an average joe. You’ll notice a similar pattern among Asians…

Probably true, and is often the case with black men in the U.S. Many never produce offspring, or even have sexual relations at all. And this has little to do with education and employment….many are just physically undesirable, or have no interest in having kids.

Another potential variable: The cereal and pulse crops of the fertile crescent, being highly seasonal (time sensitive) have crucial periods that act as choke points. The amount one can get done in those relatively short windows dictates total harvest potential. Thus, planting and harvest require an all hands on deck approach. It’s a race against time for several weeks each. Near nonstop work from sunup to sundown. Huge payoff to male labor.

In the tropics, with less seasonality, a more dilettante approach can be taken. A little farming here a little there, as the year goes round. Perhaps a few hours per day when the kids are napping. Or maybe in the mornings before it heats up.

I see three problems with your thesis:

    1. According to the Wikipedia article you cite, Lewis Buckner was at least half white, and likely more white than that. The article says his father was white. His mother was likely half or three quarters white. The plantation owners had a penchant for breeding their female black slaves to large white men to produce larger slaves, the idea being that larger, stronger hybrid slaves could do more work than the smallish slaves brought from West Africa. One observes whites more often than blacks using save wages to start businesses. No bigotry involved; just simple observation.

    2. The Wikipedia article said that Lewis Buckner build 15 houses. That’s a long way from building all of Sevier County, Tennessee. According to Wikipedia, Sevier County had 11,028 population in 1870 and 22,021 in 1900. With an increase in population of 11,000 people and assuming an average family size of 10, 1100 new houses would have been needed. While Mr Buckner can be justifiably lauded for erecting well built houses that still look good, 15 Buckner houses is a small fraction of 1100 Sevier County new houses.

    3. The Wikipedia article only mentions one other prominent construction contractor with at least some African ancestry, an unnamed brickmason who worked on at least one house with Lewis Buckner. Yeah — but what are the black males employed doing?

I believe the leading category of employment is security guard. Then a lot hold down government sinecures. Some hold positions as bank officers, token executives, etc in large corporations — I suspect they’re generally dead weight. Then they are often encountered selling cell phone plans, pushing you to buy the more expensive internet service, etc. I’ve seen them being incredibly lame public school teachers.

I rarely — if ever — see black men doing anything I would call ‘work.’ That’s probably mildly unfair — but it’s a lot closer to the truth than implying that they pull their own weight like the rest of us.

  136. It’d actually be illuminating to statistically profile what we see as deficient in black Americans, taken as a body — then analyze non-blacks with the same average IQ to see to what extent they demonstrated the same deficiencies.

I’ll guess we’d get the same tendencies — but to a lesser degree. Subnormal whites, Asians, etc tend to be supported and guided by the less deficient whites and Asians around them and related to them. ‘Dunno, Bob, maybe you should lay off the sauce,’ etc.

I’ve actually got an example of this right next door. Scientific American may not missing any contributors in Frank and Louise — but they’re perfectly functional. They also more or less baby sit Louise’s totally dysfunctional sister and her offspring who live across the street. Now those people are several beers short of a full six-pack — but Frank and Louise manage to keep the power from getting cut off, etc.

I suspect you actually get the same thing with small black populations. Portland, Or, has a very small (maybe six square blocks) black ghetto. At least until recently, they seemed rather well-behaved — for blacks, at any rate. I’d hypothesize that their conduct is influenced by the norms of the very-much present and much larger white community around them.

So have blacks — but just a few. Then you can keep having politically-correct thoughts. They’ll be okay.

This reminds me of the BIA Indian policy of relocation and termination of tribes. The idea was to relocate Indians away from the reservations, and once the reservation was mostly empty the tribe was terminated and ceased to officially exist. In practice this meant giving Indians bus tickets to major cities and dumping them on the streets.
The intent was to have the Indians melt away into the general population and no longer exist as a noticable people or culture, and for the BIA to no longer have to deal with Indian problems.
From the “vanishing Americans”, Indians, we are now moving to vanishing Africans.

By the way – relocation and termination didn’t work. The Indians kept returning to the reservations.

Why, pray tell, should they have been allowed in with their wife/wives and thirteen children at all? Is it vital for Europeans to import a mendicant underclass? Is there some surplus of social workers rotting in the fields that needs to be picked?

Fair enough, but my notion was they ought to have controlled the inflows. Remember, the narrative was, this was women and children escaping the scourge of war. But every single column of ‘refugees’ I ever saw was all single young men, hulks, who we now know were escaping their families. Had we controlled the intake to actual FAMILIES, yes, we’d have had children. But the single MEN should have been sent back. These were the groomers, the layabouts, the violent who immediately took up their behaviors from back home. And the promiscuous who continue the same behaviors that produced 13 children back in Africa, mostly on unwilling European women. They imported a rape culture. They didn’t control the intake and look what they have today. And now they’re anchors. Do they send for their families to join them in Europe? Would they even come?

  163. @Jonathan Mason

No wonder Senegalese men are leaving home.

Ah, Senegal. Yes, they DO send their best, heh..

My old boat, the good ship Nimitz stopped in Senegal back in 1978 or so. Port stop. Liberty call. I don’t recall that those were ‘hooker-stops’ like say, Lisbon. However, lots of sailors got their tattoos there and when they sorted things out, there was lots of HIV in the ink circa 1973-1980. I never was into defacement and was glad of it because a decade later, I often wondered how many guys picked up AIDS off those carriers’ liberty calls and brought it home, tattooed, unknowing and doomed. Hundreds of thousands of sailors passed through liberty ports of call on the African continent throughout the 70s, another big one was Alexandria Egypt too. I’m not a statistician like most of you guys of higher intellect, but that had to be a factor, service guys and their tattoos. Africa: Even if they don’t send their best, if you visit, you could get their worst.

For all I know, the Good Ship Nimitz visiting French Senegal in 1978 was really a research project.

Senegal has the highest rate of polygyny in the world. High birthrate plus excess young men .

    https://www.unz.com/pfrost/extraversion-tool-for-mating-success/
Extraversion is part of the male toolkit for mating success. It is especially useful in societies where a high incidence of polygyny means too many men must compete for too few women. […] For a man, the mating game is less costly if the woman can provide for herself and her children with little male assistance. The cost may even be negative if she also provides for her man. Alvergne et al. (2009, 2010a, 2010b) found no correlation among Senegalese men …extraversion, defined as “pro-social behavior which reflects sociability, assertiveness, activity, dominance and positive emotions.” Men with above-medium extraversion were 40% more likely to have more than one wife than those with below-medium extraversion, after controlling for age. Furthermore, this personality trait correlated with higher testosterone levels. Such a linkage suggests that extraversion is part of the male toolkit for mating success in a high-polygyny environment.

https://cgspace.cgiar.org/handle/10568/46169?show=fullA recent study, by FAO and IFAD, on the widespread use of short-handled hoes emphasised that many women complained about frequent pain and fatigue. ‘Without doubt,’ the report says, ‘short-handled weeding hoes have the advantage of allowing the farmers full control of the hoe while he/she works around the plants, leaving the other hand free to pull out the weeds and shake the roots free of soil’. An alternative was found in the central region of Senegal where women use a long-handled weeding hoe that allows them to stand upright. They have almost totally abandoned traditional hoes that obliged them to work in a squatting or crouched position. So why didn t women in other countries adopt long-handled hoes? ‘Almost everywhere except Senegal,’ the report says, ‘there is a widespread belief that work can be properly performed only if the worker is bent double and armed with a short-handled hoe. This type of cultural conditioning is an obstacle to the introduction of more comfortable long-handled implements, such as jab planters, since working upright is perceived as laziness.’ In Burkina Faso, one women s group said they would like longer handles on their hoes, but their husbands would never allow it

The employment-to-population ratio for black males over the age of 20 is 0.646; that for black females over the age of 20 is 0.592. That for white males is 0.697; that for white females is 0.565.

Yes, white male workforce participation has been in decline with the “diversity!” and “immigration” onslaughts, feminization … the decline of marriage … the decline of nation and “belonging” … opiod addiction, etc. etc.

But the gap still remains. The white male/female workforce participation gap–such a gap being socially positive indicating mostly married women able to stay home with children–is about .13. The black gap is .054. Whites are still better about generating normal stay-at-home-mom families.

But there’s little doubt that what has been gradually happening in America under minoritarianism, immigrationism, anti-nationalism is the blackification of American whites–sloppier sexual mores, sluttier women, more female employment, more bastard children, more broken families, less marriage, now even more layabout unmotivated men.

I’ve been involved in a number of different programs aimed at controlling the feral cat population. The first thing I learned was that sterilizing up to ninety percent of the males won’t even make a dent. The remaining ten percent will impregnate all the females and the next generation will be just as large.

Those guys resting in the shade, too lazy to run off to Europe, will father the next generation.

I’ve been to Africa and I don’t recall African men being particularly stressed. I’ve also been to Japan and other ‘advanced’ societies where men drop dead of heart attacks, leaving a disgruntled wife and (on average) one child.

Jap. male life expectancy = 84

Afr. male life expectancy = 61

Japan has second lowest rate of death by heart disease in the world. To be fair most African countries are also pretty low, though.

Obama Sr. returned to Kenya in 1965 after he was ejected from his graduate program at Harvard. He was married to his 3d wife at the time, so either he never received a green card through either of these women or he wasn’t intent on living here.

In regard to Ann Dunham, she relocated to Seattle in September 1961 and enrolled at the University of Washington, taking her baby with her. BO Sr. completed his degree at the University of Hawaii in May of 1963 and decamped to Boston. She returned from Seattle after that and filed for divorce.

Frank Marshall Davis was known to have been a friend of Stanley Dunham ca. 1971. BO Jr was conceived in the fall of 1960, when the Dunhams had lived in Hawaii for < 6 months At the time, BO Sr and Ann Dunham were both students at the University of Hawaii and they were part of a common social circle which included Neil Abercrombie, later Governor of Hawaii; BO Sr. was six years older than Ann Dunham. Frank Marshall Davis was in 1960 living about 15 miles from the Dunham's home in Hawaii Kai and earning a living running a paper distributorship. No one has produced a secure piece of evidence that he'd met any of the Dunhams during their first six months in Hawaii, nor is there any reason to believe (given his trade and where he resided with his wife) it likely that he and the Dunham's had crossed paths at that point. Frank Marshall Davis was 37 years older than the young Ann Dunham, by the way.

Several African countries have lowered their fertility. So the authors of Empty Planet are extrapolating either go from this, or from the series of Third World cocktail parties they attended in their research.

They describe one in suburban Delhi’s Srinivaspuri slum:

As for footwear, both genders wear sandals. Everyone is expected to take off their shoes before entering a home. Given what we are walking through, that seems like a very good idea.

  220. @Art Deco

Yes, the 24 year old Obama “knocked up a progressively-parented naive 17 year old” freshman–if that’s your point–for all of a month or two. (It was not some great, getting to know you, romance.)

Then–with some inducement–married her and then the marriage was quickly over and he made essentially zero effort to have any with his kid.

(Unless we go with the less likely Frank Marshall Davis story, in which case it is a 50-something guy knocking up the babysitter. Obama Sr. however comes out looking better in that version, merely agreeing to give the kid legitimate cover, doing it and getting on with life.)

Either way, “America’s first black president’s” family story is not one that paints white “progressives”, black men or “diversity!” in a great light.

A rational person who values civilization would look at this mess and think “no, thanks”.

I don’t see much indication that Ann Dunham was ‘progressively parented’, just an only child who took every advantage she could of that particular family configuration. For more than twenty years, she had people cleaning up after her: her mother, her father, her 2d husband, and who knows who else. We likely don’t have Madelyn Dunham’s checkbooks, but I’d put a four figure sum on the proposition that if we did, they’d reveal that daughter Ann was not only testing everyone’s patience, but wheedling money out of them too. There’s a reason that one of the vice presidents of the Bank of Hawaii spent 40+ years living in a dumpy condo. Did you notice that while his mother’s dying of cancer in Honolulu, he took time out from teaching and billable hours to attend the Million Man March in Washington? Sentimental fellow. Lot’s of people have lousy home situations, and I wouldn’t hold it against anyone ordinarily. His appears to have left him a simulacrum of a person who doesn’t have much emotional engagement with anyone and has a weak sense of who he is. It’s hard to think of a public figure who seems more of an artifact.

This plan may have worked if it was implemented when the white population was 85%, but today just 45% of children are white in America and the black population is now 14% of the children.

The ratio of blacks to whites was 9 to 1 in 1960 but is now 3 to 1

  226. nebulafox says:

You’re overthinking this. Obama was the white liberal’s Platonic wet dream ideal of a black intellectual, and a postmodern American in general. Remember when he was treated like a pseudo-deity back in 2008? That was what was going on. At some point in his career, Obama realized that he’d never be accepted by black people as anything more than perhaps a political vessel, but that left-wing whites were a different story. Conversely, the hatred of him was because of him having the 21st Century American version of blue blood, with all the related condescending views of downscale white Americans, not because of his race.

I suspect strongly that a lot of the shift toward SJWism on the Left you saw post-2012 had a lot to do with disappointed expectations: Obama reliably took the side of the pro-business wing of the Democratic Party through every major decision in 2009 and 2010. He bailed out the banks. He didn’t think of re-enacting Glass-Steagall. He was deeply comfortable with Silicon Valley. On foreign policy, whatever his misgivings, he took a pro-interventionist tack until a mixture of common sense and political backlash became too much in his second term. And for all the bloviating among the GOP about the ACA, it wasn’t really much more than Romneycare-i.e, an extremely modest reform of a dozen+ bureaucracy mess that is to this day, simultaneously somehow lacking in coverage and more expensive than anywhere in the developed world. Obamacare really was popular among trial lawyers and the insurance industry for a reason.

The first thing I learned was that sterilizing up to ninety percent of the males won’t even make a dent. I know a thing about controlling feral cats. The only thing that works is culling, toms and queens alike.

I’ve probably bagged a few thousand plus poisoning with Tylenol, Compound 1080, and ethylene glycol. Feral cats become a big problem around humans, either by cat luffers feeding them on purpose or a source of offal they have access to. Coyotes, wolves, and large raptors will control them effectively in purely natural environs because they (feral “Felis Undomesticus”) do not occupy an open niche in North America. Bobcats are probably the smallest cats that do.

With Africans no one I know wants to do that but male-side solutions are generally a waste of time. Female side solutions -giving them substantial incentives to not have babies- have some potential.

I suspect that if the Chinese do become the dominant power in Africa, the Chinese men will be fathering a good percentage of the children and purebred blacks could become a minority. It’s tough for 70 IQ people to compete with 90 IQ people.

“I know a thing about controlling feral cats. The only thing that works is culling, toms and queens alike.”

You start by saying you know something about cats, but then immediately demonstrate that you don’t know the very basics. Unless you can provide a closed system, you will have one of two situations: cats are marking the territory, or cats are moving in from the neighboring territory. Culling is for Sisyphus. It just doesn’t work. Unless you’re one of those so called men who just enjoys murdering things. But then that’s not really about cats, is it?

  230. anon[224] • Disclaimer says:

Feral cats are not really a problem unless some cat lady starts feeding them. They keep rodents down, which matters in some climates. Litters of kittens can become a problem. The local college uses live traps to collect feral cats, has them spayed or neutered and then when they recover returns them to their territory. Then this adult cat occupies territory, which keeps other cats more or less out, and controls rodents, but there are no litters of kittens. It’s also less expensive over the longer term of years than other control methods.

With Africans no one I know wants to do that but male-side solutions are generally a waste of time. Female side solutions -giving them substantial incentives to not have babies- have some potential.

This is an accurate statement. More accurate than your statement about controlling feral cats, in fact.

Such as public awareness of the likelihood of being assaulted by different types of people? Or awareness of the probable competence of one’s doctor?
