From the New York Times news section:
A Park Shed Its Reputation. Then Came the Tessa Majors Murder.
The deadly stabbing of Ms. Majors, a college student, rekindled fears about Morningside Park near Columbia University.
By Corey Kilgannon
Dec. 14, 2019Morningside Park seems to jut up, like a narrow extension of Central Park, into Upper Manhattan — separating affluent Columbia University, in the elevated Morningside Heights neighborhood, from Harlem to the east.
“It’s literally the border between the Columbia community and Harlem,” said Amanda Ong, 21, a Columbia senior.
The park was long considered to be a dangerous expanse, especially after nightfall. But as crime dropped over the years, so did those fears. …
Columbia’s relationship with its surroundings has had many uneasy patches. The university, which has a huge endowment and owns scores of buildings, has been criticized by some longtime residents as a gentrifying force.
Tyrone Carter, 60, who works in a wine shop in Harlem, said that growing up in Harlem, he and his friends rarely ventured to Morningside Heights because it was “a different demographic.”
“People here lived through a heroin epidemic, a crack epidemic,” Mr. Carter said. “So being black in Harlem, some see it as invasion when young white up-and-comers start buying up buildings. I was born and raised in Harlem, and I can barely afford to live here now.”
Maria Lopez, 61, a longtime park neighbor, gazed at the crime scene and said, “When I was growing up, and even in my 20s, you never came to this park, daytime or nighttime.”
But now, she said, many newcomers exhibit a boldness that contrasts with the wariness that some older New Yorkers retain from more dangerous times.
“People with money think, ‘I have the right to walk through here,’” she said. “Old-timers would never do that.” …
The attack also reopened longstanding questions over both racial tensions and Columbia’s relationship with more economically struggling nearby neighborhoods with many black and Hispanic residents.
Some students said they were worried less about their own safety than about the attack being used to portray Harlem as unsafe.
“A lot of response I’m getting from people is, ‘Oh, be careful of that area,’” said Ms. Ong, the Columbia senior, adding that such a response was “racially coded.”
Matthew Lim, 22, a Columbia junior, also worried about how the news might affect the relationship between the Columbia community and longtime Harlemites.
“We know that, just because of one incident, we shouldn’t make broad-stroke judgments about people who live here, but it’s hard if it affects a member of our community,” he said. …
The local city councilman, Mark Levine, called the park much safer than it was 20 years ago, but added that the recent uptick in robberies was “unacceptable.”
He said that some of the messages his office received from constituents after the attack were “laced with ugly and inappropriate racial comments” — some demanding the return of stop and frisk and a more aggressive style of policing more common two decades ago.
“One of my concerns arising from the young age of the suspects in this case is that there’ll be pressure on police to ratchet up aggressive enforcement on kids as young as 13,” Mr. Levine said.
A reader points out that the state of New York recently rolled back its 1958 Jets vs. Sharks Law Knife Control Act banning switchblade-type knives because (what else?) anti-racism:
Why New York just made gravity knives legal
Chad Arnold, Albany Bureau Published 1:59 p.m. ET June 4, 2019A decades long ban on gravity knives has been lifted in New York after years of trying. Chad Arnold, Staff Writer
ALBANY – New York’s decades-long ban on gravity knives has come to an end.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo last week approved legislation that removed the folding knives from the “dangerous weapons” category under the state’s penal law.
Cuomo’s approval comes after a federal judge earlier this year ruled the ban was unconstitutional.
The ban, the court ruled, was too vague and disproportionately impacted workers who carry folding knives for their jobs.
Minorities were also disproportionately impacted by the ban, according to advocacy groups who urged the ban’s repeal.
Gravity knives are folding blades that are opened with a press of a button and a flick of the wrist.
The blades were banned in New York in the 1950s following a string of knife crimes, a memo attached to the bill said.
Knife aficionados no doubt have strong opinions on how gravity folding knives are totally different from switchblades.
At the heart of the issue were basic utility knives — small pocket knives commonly sold in hardware stores and used by construction workers and other contractions throughout the state.
The knives were commonly mistaken for gravity blades by law enforcement, leading to unnecessary arrests, according to the Legal Aid Society, a public defenders group in New York City that urged the ban’s repeal.
“Many of these individuals purchase knives at your stores and use them in their jobs as electricians, stagehands, and construction laborers to earn a living,” the group said in a letter sent to retailers last month urging support of the bill.
There were 3,500 gravity knife related arrests last year, Legal Aid Society said. Of that, 85% involved minorities.
Are there any minority stagehands in New York? Here’s an article on how stagehands at the Met Opera can make over a half million per year: “Jobs are often passed from father to son, and some members are now the fifth generation of their families to hold Local 1 cards. [Union boss James J. Claffey Jr.,] whose total compensation in 2011 as Local 1’s chief was $277,000, is one of six Claffey brothers in the union.”
“No more will unsuspecting and otherwise law abiding New Yorkers — most of them people of color — be swept up into the criminal justice system due to arbitrary enforcement of a broadly worded statute,” Assemblyman Dan Quart, D-Manhattan, the bill’s sponsor, said in a statement….
In a statement, Savino said the previous gravity-knife law “unfairly targeted black and Latino workers who use these knives on job sites everyday.” …
Law-enforcement groups urged the governor to veto the bill, arguing a repeal would lead to a spike in knife-related crime and impact public safety.
Cuomo, however, disagreed.

I don’t think money has much to do with it, although Columbia students are not broke, presumably. What we are seeing is followers of an ideology or even a religion who will not accept reality as it truly is. It reminds me of the attractive Scandinavian girls who went camping in Morocco. What could go wrong? I sometimes think that they have this belief in faith or something like that. Like they believe if they send out no racist emanations, no harm will come to them. Or that they truly believe the media that one should only be on the watch out for Neo-Nazi skinheads or something of that nature. It’s crazy.
When I look at what people believe today, and how foolishly they give their lives away, I can only think about the religious upheavals in Europa from the Hussites to the Counter-Reformation. It is mass-insanity.
People literally do think like that.
A friend of mine lived in West Germany for a year back at the tail end of the seventies. After he came back home (the San Francisco Bay Area) a German girl he had got to know came to visit us.
She was angelically beautiful -- and I'm not exaggerating. Delicate features, blonde hair, blue eyes...she was amazing.
Anyway, she had this theory that if you just approached people with love in your heart, they wouldn't harm you. Well, in her case, it probably was true in general, but...
She tried that shit in Oakland. Almost got raped.
But these Leftists have beliefs with no more basis in science than the stuff you read in Genesis. Most of Western Civilization believed the Genesis version of creation for over a thousand years, all because someone wrote it down in a book and some other rich, powerful people told them that's what they were supposed to believe. People are still doing the same thing today. Different writers, different beliefs, but pretty much the same penalties for heresy.
A fiskable feast.
Highlights that Blacks use crime as a way to control territory; thus this chafing against successful law enforcement. Can’t have that.
Is it code when everyone knows exactly what is being said?
Morningside Park has been a no-go zone at least since I attended Columbia in the mid-70's.
It acts as a barrier between the Feral Kidz living in the vibrant 'hood down below and the population of potential prey (naive students) above.
Or as in Fisk Univ., an HBCU?
You'll need your Fiskars to cut through the bull.

There used to be, in the eighties, a nice restaurant that used to be a faculty lounge around 118th or so think right above Morning Side Park: Terrace in the Sky. Owned by I think a Yugoslav immigrant. Beautiful views, pretty good continental cuisine. It went through several iterations finally petering out in the 200s. I haven’t been in over 20 years but liked it. I wouldn’t go in the park at night but felt pretty safe right above it. I did go through it during the day in the early 80s, when I was applying to Columbia. Took the wrong subway and ended up down in Harlem and walked up through the park to get to Columbia. A bit dicey but common for the time.
I lived aroun Columbia in the late 80s. Well above it on 183rd for a while. My dad went to law school there in the 50s. Mom one of her many degrees, an MSW in the 90s. Another college friend went to film school. And my a Uncle taught history there in the 60s. A Stevenson era liberal, he left after the students occupied campus buildings in ‘68.
It keeps plodding along. That dividing line has been there forever, but the Columbia area isn’t very ritzy. Downright seedy but a beautiful campus. It just isn’t Harlem, which is pretty damn gentrified anyway now with better restaurants and bars than by Columbia.

And of course, Rao’s.
I used to go to Sylvia's, the famous black restaurant in Harlem. Didn't like it much. They tried to fancy up collard greens and grits, and that's a tall order. Trying to make slave food into high cuisine can be done, I suppose, but they couldn't do it. The food was lukewarm, the ribs were sub par. They did not seem very earnest in their approach. The waiters were in little white uniforms. They didn't behave in congruence to what their attire dictated. Overall, a somewhat half-assed experience. Since it's an historic all black run restaurant, you won't hear white or black people say that. But it does kind of suck. Framed pictures of Richard Pryor and Muhammaed Ali and the like adorn the walls.
I think, if you look at the photos, it's safe to say the food is as good as it looks.

I attribute it more to the kids being oblivious to the dangers after growing up in a segregated neighborhoods, and the only bad guys on TV have German accents. Their parents are too polite to tell them the truth. Derb’s talk can save lives.
It takes firm parental intervention just inject a bit of sanity and still the foul tide from "the culture" washes over them. If their parents are working against them as well, and they don't pick up some street smarts from their peers ... they can be utterly clueless.
More likely, too afraid that their kid will out them to the authorities through something said at public school. Like this case.

And of course, Rao’s.
The reputation is not of the Park, but of the people who live or gravitate around there. It is likely that “stop and frisk” reduced those incidents of youths with knives getting stabby, now thanks to De Blasio they are back.

“Little kids”. And no mention that they are black or African-American anywhere. A 13-year old black teen is much stronger than a 18-year old female teenager.
18-Year-Old White Girl Stabbed
She wasn’t just “stabbed” — she was brutally murdered — an intelligent, accomplished young white woman, a student at an Ivy League school, was butchered on the street.
Ineducable young black males, who are all too typical — emblematic, one might say — of a group of that plagues this country, murdered a young white woman in a street robbery (“gone wrong”) which would have netted them max a few hundred dollars in cash and goods — and for that they took her life.
But Whites aren’t supposed to much notice, let alone be outraged — they should just shut up and continue to tolerate and subsidize this useless, predatory criminal class (If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent), all the while being lectured about their “privilege” by moral betters in the media.
But as revealed recently, NYC will soon have a special law enforcement unit to deal with the immediate danger of far right
whiteextremism.https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/1206284793882775552
If I could propose an alternative title:
18 Year-Old White Girl Stabbed, Park Hardest Hit
Also, is this in the original Times article?
Those small contractions just can’t catch a break.
NYC defined a “gravity knife” as any folding knife that a cop could open with one hand. Like the one I carry at work every day. Thousands of regular blue collar guys have gotten charged and convicted with felonies for carrying such knives over the years. Part of the problem was that what qualified as a gravity knife wasn’t widely promulgated. The ubiquitous gray Stanley utility knife with the triangular blade that is pushed out the front with a thumb is operable with one hand, for instance.
Those stabbings in London are being committed with kitchen knives, box cutters, etc.
Just another instance of the unwillingness to control black criminality affecting us all.
Sad to see the decline of New York. Given the complete Wokeness of local politicians, I’m amazed it hasn’t occurred quicker.
I was lucky enough to work in NYC from 1996 to 2011, which will probably be looked back on as a Golden Age for the city. Especially before 9/11, the city had an indescribable vibe. It really did feel like a Fitzgerald novel at times.
As my pseudonym indicates, I lived in NJ, and have fond memories of nights out with customers followed by a car service ride home. There is no better view of Manhattan than the night skyline just after you come out of the Lincoln Tunnel in NJ.
It seemed to me that the best time ever for NYC was right before the dot coms went bust. The city was a lot safer that the 70s and 80s, the real estate prices were much less outrageous, and there were jobs. I even lived in a nice part of the Village for a few years in the early-mid 1990s.
So yeah, that was a better time. Thing is, because it was good so many people wanted to move there, which made the place way too expensive.
the world’s top 10 tourist destinations. This plus the Morningside Park murder
and the Jersey City mass shooting, both widely publicized by the world’s
media, mean that New York stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars
in tourist revenue. Throw in the antiquated mass transit system and the
crumbling power grid, and it’s no surprise that NYC is rapidly becoming
a Third World city - it’s no longer an important city to visit as compared to
others, and on top of that it’s becoming dangerous again. An acquaintance who grew up in Manhattan told me that around 1960, when
she was 10, her mother let her roam in her part of Manhattan, incl. taking
the subway, without any concern for her safety. That’s how safe New York
used to be, and Tokyo still is. Of course, there were always places to stay
away from but native New Yorkers knew where they were.
BTW that high point is where the Burr-Hamilton duel took place.
Better yet from somewhere where you won't end up in Manhattan.

You’re right, Mr. Sea, with the 9/11 story and all. I don’t know how they would get confused with these “gravity knives” to begin with, which sound like switchblades without springs (or are switchblades only the kind with linear telescoping action?)
Switchblade is not really a technical term but it refers to a blade that opens with a switch/button. These can be OTF (out the front) with the linear telescoping action you describe, or side opening, as most automatic knives are.
An older black lady yesterday told us that her neighborhood is “not so good”, while people were talking about UPS packages being stolen off the porch. I got the “code” loud and clear, as I’m sure she figured we knew who the “not so good” people were.
The next time a black kid knifes a white girl, the NYT is now going to rush to portray him as an aspiring stagehand who was about to turn his life around. I just know it.
PS: I wonder if Cuomo was motivated out of jealousy/rivalry that Sadiq Khan’s London has more knife crime/murders- or does he just share de Blasio’s nostalgia for the pre-Rudi ‘gritty’ NYC?
White girl’s dad never gave her the TALK a la John Derbyshire.
Yep. These kids have been pickled in minoritarian lies from Hollyweird and their schools since birth. It’s in the air they breathe the water they drink.
It takes firm parental intervention just inject a bit of sanity and still the foul tide from “the culture” washes over them. If their parents are working against them as well, and they don’t pick up some street smarts from their peers … they can be utterly clueless.
I don’t think I ever went down those steps and into the park, despite living very close to it for 2 years. One year I lived in a dorm right above and adjacent to it. And I don’t think I knew anybody who ever did go down there. Everybody at Columbia knew it was a dangerous area.
It’s not really much of a “park”. It’s like on a cliff face between the Columbia campus high above it and sort of demarcates it from a slummy area down below.
There’s really no reason to go there if you’re a Columbia student or live around Columbia. There aren’t any businesses there or anything.
I don’t know what she was doing there, especially since Barnard is on the other side of campus by the Hudson River and Riverside Park. The only reason someone might go there would be to buy drugs or something.
““People with money think, ‘I have the right to walk through here,’” she said. “Old-timers would never do that.” …”
“People with money” – whites – should sit quietly aside until “old timers” – minorities – need their money. Hand it over and maybe, just maybe, you won’t get hurt.
The knife law was being abused by NYPD employees. A regular pocket knife, if the cop could get it to open with a practiced flip of the wrist, would net you an arrest.
In March 2019, a Federal judge declared the law “unconstitutionally vague.
in response to a lawsuit by New York City sous chef Joseph Cracco, who was arrested and fined for carrying a pocket knife, U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty ruled that New York’s law banning gravity knives afforded police and prosecutors almost unlimited discretion to arrest and prosecute people for carrying knives commonly sold in stores across the state.
“The court recognizes that the District Attorney must have discretion to prosecute or not to prosecute criminal matters,” Crotty wrote in his opinion and order. “The combination here, however, of a statute that does not specify how Cracco can identify a gravity knife and a a practice of prosecuting possession of gravity knives in an unclear and inconsistent manner provides police and prosecutors ‘virtually unlimited’ or ‘unfettered’ discretion to enforce the gravity knife statute. Under such circumstances, and with the lens of Cracco’s past prosecution and intended future conduct, the gravity knife statute is unconstitutionally vague.”
“The law was passed in 1958 to criminalize knives that rely on gravity to open and lock into place. It was intended to address knives modeled after World War II paratrooper knives that opened by depressing a button, whereafter the knife blade fell and locked into place by force of gravity. However, New York City police interpreted the statute to mean any folding knife that can be opened by a flick of the wrist.
As Crotty’s ruling notes, a gravity knife, unlike many other weapons, is defined not by its design but by its function, as determined by the “wrist flick test.” https://reason.com/2019/03/28/federal-judge-rules-new-yorks-insane-gra/
“Some students said they were worried less about their own safety than about the attack being used to portray Harlem as unsafe.”
Liberals are insane.
How much of it is young adults from flyover country thinking that living in NYC is cool, glamorous and fun rather than lame, grimy and dangerous.
So many young people from smaller places talk about their dream of going to New York as though the world will open up to them and be so much more interesting. If you don’t have that life where you are, going somewhere new won’t change it.
Also, if you watch enough news, television shows, and films you've pretty much seen NYC and what it has to offer.
Almost any folding knife can be opened by a flick of the wrist, particularly linerlocks and slip-joints, unless they have a strong retention or a safety. Also, as far as I know, all knives are subjected to the force of gravity. It’s centrifugal force they really should say.
As for switchblades, these are usually called automatic knives, because they can’t be opened manually but only by pushing a button. But the really “scary” automatic knives are OTF knives.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliding_knife
In any case, automatic knives do not open faster than modern manual or assisted folding knives. You just have to operate manually a thumb-stud or flipper, and they fly open in a flash, with or without the help of a flick of the wrist. And these are legal in New York, as long as the blade is under three inches long.

No surprises here. On those rare occasions when I take the MetroNorth train I am always struck by how many relatively young white people enter and leave the 125th Street stop. Harlem--like so many formerly minority-dominated, crime-ridden neighborhoods throughout the country--is undergoing gentrification, with the residents being dispersed to Section 8 housing in the formerly white 'burbs.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-man/10744997/Cool-London-is-dead-and-the-rich-kids-are-to-blame.html
Both cities were moving to similar cycles I think.
The thing with a switchblade is it is not a useful knife. To get a little spring to move a blade you need a flimsy blade. What they now call a gravity knife can have a real blade on it.
I like this model:
KA-BAR 3189, Folding Hunter
Crocodile Dundee would not consider this to be a knife but it will fit inside your pocket and I am sure Feinstein and Harris and Pelosi want to make it illegal.
Why did I know you would be in favor of knife control?
NY Restricted Knives:
Possession of switchblades, ballistic knives, metal knuckle knives, and cane swords is prohibited, although there is a hunting and fishing exemption for switchblades. Gravity knives were removed from this prohibited category effective May 30, 2019, due in part to the efforts of AKTI.

I liked the city a lot more before it was filled with hordes of overseas tourists. Having a reputation as being dangerous kept the annoying tourists away.

I don’t recall NYC being very safe at all in the 70s and 80s. My dad was mugged twice, nutjobs lined the sidewalks, hookers crowded busy intersections and cars including ours were regularly broken into.
But 1993-2014 became much better under Giuliani and Bloomberg. I worked all around Manhattan and the boroughs for 12 years, mostly on foot, especially enjoying those lovely upper west-side parks, where once you’d fear to tread. Quit in 2015 and would not go back now.
I expected all these “beware the backlash” NYT stories, just like when a crazy “lone wolf” Muslim strikes the innocent.
Well now, in Illinois we can NOW CARRY SWITCHBLADES and don’t even need hours of “training” in the classroom as required for a CCW handgun license!
A good friend of mine just got back from a trip to New Orleans. He went with his step-brother and their respective dads to catch a couple football games.
He told a story about how they left Willie Mays (some fried chicken place) around 5pm and the sidewalk led past a construction site that created a little tunnel effect. Inside the tunnel were four black guys.
“Just standing there. They didn’t look like construction workers. It was just me, [step-brother] Dyl[an], and two senior citizens. We crossed the street.”
A prudent move.

Very true. To get a further glimpse of that craziness, I highly recommend that people go check out the coverage of the university newspaper:
https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2019/12/15/concerns-over-due-processes-heighten-amid-trial-of-13-year-old-suspect-in-tessa-majors-death/
They are already worried about getting the wrong guy even though there is no proof that they got the wrong guy. As an honest minority observer, I will tell it like it is. I think white people are mostly finished. The killing of a young attractive member of one race by a member of another race should be the pinnacle of racial tensions. Instead, we are getting op-ed about “stereotyping”, and the “uncomfortable relationship between Columbia and Harlem”. This is truly incredible…
Knife was found with finger prints. Defense will be these little boys found the knife in the park, played with it a while and dropped it last week and some other dude must have picked it up.
Store clerk claims the green jacket one in custody is the kid who chased a young girl into his store recently.
It will begin ugly, but it will end, ... ugly. And in between it will be ugly. And the good people that abhor ugliness will denounce the sheep dogs and have them cashiered. But the honest people will salute the sheep dogs, and the sheep dogs will say "WTF?"
They have a point about those knives, don’t they? When I read about this before, the problem presented was that stores in NYC could legally sell knives that would get you arrested when the cops later stopped and frisked you. If minorities were getting most of the stopping and frisking and then hauled to the pokey for a knife they just bought at the corner store, they have a right to be pissed.
BTW wasn’t outlawing switchblades just a little hysterical back then? Is it really much less convenient to commit crime with a fixed blade knife or one that you need two hands to operate? Does that spring action really create a lot of crime?
This is total BS. A gravity knife is a weapon and only a weapon. Tradesmen don’t use gravity knives. If they need to cut something they have specialized tools for the material in question. For general cutting, they usually use utility knifes with disposable blades. Any repeated cutting of hard materials is going to dull a blade and workmen don’t have time to be repeatedly sharpening their knives all day, so they use disposable blades. You don’t need a gravity knife to do your job. And I would wager that 99% of the people arrested were NOT construction workers or stage hands and had NO conceivable work related need for these weapons.
Now just because it is a weapon (or an “arm”) doesn’t mean that it should be illegal – the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
We aren’t talking about switchblades or German FJ gravity knives.
This is true in theory but not in practice. In practice almost any one handed opening folding knife could be deemed a gravity knife in NYC. The wrist flick test (sometimes even mechanically assisted), will almost always find a one hand opener to be a gravity knife as the typical detent or back spring close can't be too strong, otherwise one hand opening would be difficult, thus it would almost always be overcome by the centrifugal force of a wrist flick.. The exception to this would be higher end folders that use AXIS or LAWKS type double lock mechanisms. For many cutting purposes longer bladed knives than utility razor knives are indicated and almost any tradesman carries a general purpose folder in addition to a utility knife.
Generally,I find Steve's unprincipled sanguinity about vague laws enforced at the discretion of prosecution/law enforcement somewhat startling. I'm guessing it's a holdover from simpler times when P/L.E. could be presumed to have the best interests of community/society at heart. He has yet to internalize that in our brave new world, SPLC branded hater/kulaks will be the ones the State will be focused on. Our founding Fathers were great men,we ignore their insights into the nature of Government and humanity at our peril.
I've carried a pocket knife for most of my life, and for most of my life it was no big deal. Yet I've been asked, in all seriousness, why I would want to carry something "whose only purpose was to kill people!" The Left has a horror of anything it can interpret as "an instrument of violence," anything that a person might use to defend himself, and this extends even to such mundane items as pocket knives. America has been characterized as "a nation of cowards" for its fear of guns; how much more cowardly do you have to be to be afraid of pocket knives?
These epidemics just randomly happen, independent of the people affected by them. Its sad really, like getting struck by lightning.
I don't think money has much to do with it, although Columbia students are not broke, presumably. It's crazy.
When I look at what people believe today, and how foolishly they give their lives away, I can only think about the religious upheavals in Europa from the Hussites to the Counter-Reformation. It is mass-insanity.
Harlem needs all the goodwill it can get. Believe in Harlem!
‘… In a statement, Savino said the previous gravity-knife law “unfairly targeted black and Latino workers who use these knives on job sites everyday.” …’
Mr. Savino wins today’s unintentional humor prize?
Interesting framing, Tyrone. I like the way you think; if I ever need some Wild Irish Rose I’ll be sure to stop by your shop. Wypipo don’t necessarily have a right to venture into Colored Neighborhoods of Color.
I remember back in 1997, the Chicago papers were up in arms because a few honor students wandered into Armour Square and one of them had the bakkyball beaten out of him by some whites (Caruso, Jasas and Kwidzinski- now that’s diversity!) Had I the eloquence of Tyrone wit da wine, I would’ve written Messrs. Cohen and Levi and whatever down at the Trib to remind them that some people think ‘I have the right to walk through here,’ but old timers would never do that.
Now just because it is a weapon (or an "arm") doesn't mean that it should be illegal - the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
The NYCPD defined any knife that could be opened with one hand as a gravity knife. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of people were landed with felony charges for being unaware of this. I use such a knife at work every day. Home Depot sells them for ten dollars or so.
We aren’t talking about switchblades or German FJ gravity knives.
Some NYPD cops are saying the young lady was in the park to buy some weed. Pity that some people are willing to put themselves into dangerous situations to buy what I think should be legal.
And what if she was going to buy weed? I've noticed you're an anti White liberal.
Many bitter pills to swallow for this family.

People literally do think like that.
A friend of mine lived in West Germany for a year back at the tail end of the seventies. After he came back home (the San Francisco Bay Area) a German girl he had got to know came to visit us.
She was angelically beautiful — and I’m not exaggerating. Delicate features, blonde hair, blue eyes…she was amazing.
Anyway, she had this theory that if you just approached people with love in your heart, they wouldn’t harm you. Well, in her case, it probably was true in general, but…
She tried that shit in Oakland. Almost got raped.
You have to be extremely careful how you handle the ‘talk’ about safety issues with your kids…Otherwise I had the experience where they mention certain aspects of it to their classmates and you get tagged as a ‘racist’ by their classmates and teachers…
One, they have to be old enough. Two, you have to be forthright; but, diplomatic in how you describe dangerous situations and people to them. Lastly, you have to make sure they understand this is information only to be shared between you and them, no third party sharing allowed.
It’s complicated…

“Job sites.” As in the nearest dead-end alleyway?
This is the razor knife I use for work.

It only cuts an inch deep so im surprised it killed the girl, but then again it’s sharp as a razor so it’s capable of doing serious damage. Especially mine because I usually have a hook blade in it.
Technically I guess this would be considered a gravity knife in New York City, although that seems kind of silly because it’s just a tool that most normal Americans use for work every day. Perhaps a standard retractable stanley knife would be legal while my push button flip out style milwaukee knife would not be legal.
Next: gun control will apply only to guns worth over $50.
It would explain her stupidity. After all, the other students at Columbia rarely get killed by blacks, so they manage to understand the reality of violent blacks despite being subjected to propaganda. Young, female pot smokers are like young, female smokers in general. A bit sleazy, low-class, and stupid.
Will this thread become like the threads rejoicing that Deborah Staggs, Agostini and Garcia were assaulted by blacks?
Now just because it is a weapon (or an "arm") doesn't mean that it should be illegal - the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
This is total BS. A gravity knife is a weapon and only a weapon. Tradesmen don’t use gravity knives. If they need to cut something they have specialized tools for the material in question. For general cutting, they usually use utility knifes with disposable blades.
This is true in theory but not in practice. In practice almost any one handed opening folding knife could be deemed a gravity knife in NYC. The wrist flick test (sometimes even mechanically assisted), will almost always find a one hand opener to be a gravity knife as the typical detent or back spring close can’t be too strong, otherwise one hand opening would be difficult, thus it would almost always be overcome by the centrifugal force of a wrist flick.. The exception to this would be higher end folders that use AXIS or LAWKS type double lock mechanisms. For many cutting purposes longer bladed knives than utility razor knives are indicated and almost any tradesman carries a general purpose folder in addition to a utility knife.

I wonder what the ((liberals )) reaction to the Tessa Majors killing would be if she were named Tessa Eisenberg and daughter of the executive director of the south east regional ADL???????
Or Tessa Potok????
I use it frequently for various tasks and don't like to be without it. I had to shake my head when the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, imperiously declared, "There is never a reason to carry a knife." I find several reasons a day.
I'd be fine with the police taking knives off young thugs. However, big city politics being what they are, the NYPD would take far greater satisfaction in throwing the book at me for carrying one, regardless of my lack of criminal intent. It looks good to arrest an old white guy now and then.
She was in a band — couldn’t the guys get her some grass?
“People with money think, ‘I have the right to walk through here,’”
The caucasity of thinking you have the right to walk in a public park paid for by tax dollars! It belongs to black criminals you numb nuts!
“I was born and raised in Harlem, and I can barely afford to live here now.”
No surprises here. On those rare occasions when I take the MetroNorth train I am always struck by how many relatively young white people enter and leave the 125th Street stop. Harlem–like so many formerly minority-dominated, crime-ridden neighborhoods throughout the country–is undergoing gentrification, with the residents being dispersed to Section 8 housing in the formerly white ‘burbs.
Re: Decline of New York
It was just announced several days ago that New York City fell from the list of
the world’s top 10 tourist destinations. This plus the Morningside Park murder
and the Jersey City mass shooting, both widely publicized by the world’s
media, mean that New York stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars
in tourist revenue. Throw in the antiquated mass transit system and the
crumbling power grid, and it’s no surprise that NYC is rapidly becoming
a Third World city – it’s no longer an important city to visit as compared to
others, and on top of that it’s becoming dangerous again.
(Some students said they were worried less about their own safety than about the attack being used to portray Harlem as unsafe.
“A lot of response I’m getting from people is, ‘Oh, be careful of that area,’” said Ms. Ong, the Columbia senior, adding that such a response was “racially coded.”)
If you know anyone who still doubts that Progressivism is a dangerous, brainwashing cult, show them this.
There are profound problems with the above; the NYT is engaged in what amounts to anti-white framing, skillfully subtle and so sure to slip by most readers.
Here is what is wrong with it:
Columbia University (founded as an institution in 1754, originally in lower Manhattan) has occupied its present campus location near Harlem (originally, of course, Haarlem, so-named after the Dutch city in Europe) since the 1890s, a time when Harlem was white, a time Harlem had an almost inconsequentially small Black population.
Harlem only really became ‘Black’ beginning in the 1910s, especially associated with the big population movements related to World War I (add that to the list of reasons that was was such a bad idea). Also lots of Caribbean immigrants — like the core group around the Jamaican Marcus Garvey during his days walking the line between confidence-trickster and principled racial nationalist (the world headquarters for the Garvey group, when he founded it ca.1919, was in Harlem) — but in fact all the Blacks in Harlem were effectively foreign immigrants, coming up from the US Deep South to a city with no significant, historical Black population; truly these Blacks were an “outside force,” if there ever was one; truly, their takeover of the area could be called an “invasion.” To use two of the NYT’s phrasings there.
The process of Harlem becoming ‘Black’ was, I suppose, complete by 1930 or maybe 1940, depending on your standard of completeness; supposedly Harlem clocked-in at 98% Black on census 1950. (The 2010 census counted 63% Black to 9.5% White.)
They hide behind "some" but if the situation were reverse they would feel obligated to deplore the "some" who said that, but these "some" are given a pass without comment. "Some" people are entitled to voice their feelings about other races and "some" aren't.
It’s the Enigma Code: Everyone can read it. Particularly Poles.
Now just because it is a weapon (or an "arm") doesn't mean that it should be illegal - the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
Whether or not “gravity knives” are weapons is irrelevant, because very few people in this country (or anywhere) have ever carried true gravity knives. This real issue is pocket knives. In NYC a pocket knife that a police officer was able, after repeated tries, to flick open with his wrist — i.e., a substantial portion of all pocket knives! — counted as a gravity knife, and you could be arrested for carrying one. The law was stupid, and deserved to be repealed. Not because it “targeted minorities,” or because workers can’t do their jobs without such knives, but because it made potential felons out of law abiding citizens who carry pocket knives. Citizens like me.
I’ve carried a pocket knife for most of my life, and for most of my life it was no big deal. Yet I’ve been asked, in all seriousness, why I would want to carry something “whose only purpose was to kill people!” The Left has a horror of anything it can interpret as “an instrument of violence,” anything that a person might use to defend himself, and this extends even to such mundane items as pocket knives. America has been characterized as “a nation of cowards” for its fear of guns; how much more cowardly do you have to be to be afraid of pocket knives?
Hmmm, kind of wonder how much of this article is just made up by the writer. ‘Some students’ are really concerned about that rather than their own safety? In the US, as exemplified by the NYT, there seems to be this quasi-religious cult of black worship. How does something affect blacks is their point of view. It’s gotten really bizarre. Being mass media they are hyping blacks into permanent grievance mongers even more than they already are. Blacks are very suggestible people and getting their paranoia reinforced by media ensures that they will always be a point of friction within America. But perhaps that’s the object. Let’s blame the white victim for having the effrontery of thinking she could walk in the park like a normal person. Or perhaps she had green hair so that’s suspect right there.
Like I have been at pains to say, what is a lone woman doing walking at dusk near Morningside Park?
Even Frederick Law Olmstead didn’t expect his park to be a safe place for law-abiding respectable people to be after dark. (Morningside is right near Central Park.)
Members of the criminal classes simply not allowed out in public or on the street as pedestrians, drivers or public transit passengers after sunset or 4/30 pm in December, 8/pm in summer.
The sunset laws were rigorously enforced in S Africa and some American towns. There was little crime and young White women could walk in public without being murdered.
A lone White woman has as much right to be outside at 5/30 pm as 3 useless black murderers.
You belong to the welfare classes. The working classes flood the streets at 5/30 pm because most businesses close at 5/pm and millions of New Yorkers are going home. If you were a productive worker you’d know that.
The streets belong to the workers who pay taxes and students whose parents pay taxes. Not to the criminals who’ve lived on welfare since birth
These epidemics used to happen mainly among black people. Now they happen mainly among white people. As you say, this is not random – the epidemics occur in some groups and not other for some reason. So what is the reason why the main victims of the epidemic have changed?
Show me on the doll where the Bad Drug attacked you!
Notice they identify, directly, the agents doing this horrible thing called Gentrification (white people), but the “crack epidemic” is agency-less.
That’s a BS story which is always trotted out whenever white people get their heads bashed in. I’m surprised they took two days to come up with it. Next they’ll say she called them the n-word, then the case can be closed.
About the weapons? I look forward to the day when proud latinos can carry their machetes on the subway. Tools of the trade, so don’t be racist.
And black kids? They just need better and smarter role models–everyone knows that. I propose this guy:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/14/us/man-accused-of-stealing-from-bank-vault-facebook-post-trnd/index.html
When whites move into black neighborhood it’s an invasion. If you say that black people are invading your neighborhood, you’re an evil racist.
They hide behind “some” but if the situation were reverse they would feel obligated to deplore the “some” who said that, but these “some” are given a pass without comment. “Some” people are entitled to voice their feelings about other races and “some” aren’t.
And why are the perpetrators of a drug “epidemic” always referred to in the MSM as its “victims”?
Show me on the doll where the Bad Drug attacked you!

I understand how the law is applied in NY but I still deplore the dishonest pretense that the people being arrested need these knives for their work (and by work I mean construction and not robbing people). If these people should have a 2nd Amendment right to be armed (a right which, like voting, should not be afforded to convicted felons BTW) then say that but don’t pretend that people are carrying these knives for “work”.
As for trusting the police, I am also suspicious and admire the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, but a lot of the evidentiary rules (the “fruit of the poisoned tree”) were invented much later on and the Founding Fathers would be shocked at their application. The judge and the prosecutor have to have some common sense and serve as a check but a lot of policing is done on a wink wink/nod nod basis – the cops can’t legally get you for whatever reason for what they know you are doing so they get you for something else. Maybe they see you selling drugs but customers leave with the drugs so you only have a knife on you when they arrest you. But the evil racis’ NYC cops are not hauling in black stage hands for carrying their work knives – that’s bullshit. Most of the people getting arrested for gravity knives are anything but choir boys or hard working stage hands. They are shady people in shady places doing shady stuff and the cops get them on whatever they can because they know that they are up to no good. If they had stopped and frisked those kids every time they set foot in the park after dark without their parents, Tessa would still be alive.
Maybe they will go after WN who are “demonstrating” (kicking people’s asses) in a similar fashion but I see no desire by cops to haul in innocent people merely going about their business whatever their race.
I have carried a "gentleman's folder" every day(excluding Sabbath) for the past 40 years and I assure you I have never entertained the idea of robbing anyone at knifepoint. It comes in handy an average of 3-4 times a day for entirely innocuous purposes.
The types of folders the NYPD calls "gravity knives" generally have a clip that can hold them at the top of a pocket. The NYPD are trained to look for this exposed clip. If I were to walk through Grand Central Terminal and a cop spotted this, despite the fact I was merely going about my business, I'm sure he'd be happy to arrest me.
There have been cases when air travelers legally transporting firearms have been arrested at a NY airport when their flight was detained or rerouted. In other words, they were in a situation that was totally out of their control when the police chose to enforce NY's gun laws.
And to think some people say that “cultural capital” isn’t a real thing.
On the other hand there’s something vaguely salubrious in The Current Year about a Nuevo Yawkker asserting (albeit over the bloody corpse of a Southern sportsball-royalty-ancestry white girl) that money can’t buy everything.
That’s not just racism. That’s the inevitable outcome of our enshekeled overlords’ past 106 years of pushing everything in the direction of Fiat Currency iber ale zakhn. At some point the poorfags realize that despite not having money, and these games playing out all around them, they’re still here.
Do you seriously believe that a college freshman needs to go to a dangerous park to buy drugs?
It’s simple enough. White flight is Black ethnic cleansing. Gentrification is neighborhood development.
As far as all this confusion about gravity knives, aren’t utility knives box cutters? I am curious about the number of tradesmen being busted for box cutters.
Maybe the law should be clarified, although that wasn’t done, it was just nullified.
And maybe there is some value to being vague. I pretty much lost any interest in smallish pocket knives because of the post 9/11 metal detectors and not wanting to bother thinking about the details. And I mostly don’t need one.
Indeed. That was a very frank and bold admission. I’m surprised it wasn’t edited out.
Jack, it happened all the time, including to tourists. Probably to even out the racial distribution of the arrestees.
Now just because it is a weapon (or an "arm") doesn't mean that it should be illegal - the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
I’ve seen a lot of actual workmen carry folding, flip-out knives that they use for general cutting (rope, boxes, plastic, etc.). I don’t know if these were “gravity-knives” per-se, but they seem to function about the same. When they get dull, they either sharpen them or buy a new one (they aren’t expensive).
It takes firm parental intervention just inject a bit of sanity and still the foul tide from "the culture" washes over them. If their parents are working against them as well, and they don't pick up some street smarts from their peers ... they can be utterly clueless.
I went to Columbia undergrad during the mid 2000s when Bloomberg was mayor and the city was considered at its safest.
She sort of reminded me of that female student in South Africa who was volunteering to register black voters...The student winded up being killed by a black mob before she had a chance to explain what she was doing.
I guess that's why its important to have the 'talk' with your children or grandkids about these issues. They probably think just because they like black people, that black people will automatically like them back. Unfortunately it can lead to terrible situations that are probably 99% avoidable. I think a lot of these horrific murders we hear about are probably people like this woman who blindly go into dangerous situations or areas thinking they are totally protected because they like black people and aren't racist...Sadly it just doesn't work that way.
I had an Asian friend who used to always have things like this happen to her...It took a while but she finally got the message to avoid certain areas and people for her own safety.
Morningside Park, just never unlock the gates. Let the Harleminites witch about it. Put a pack of wolves in there and throw food over the fence for them every day.
I think most guys on this blog can sympathize with that sentiment. We too see an invasion of sorts as well. However, unlike you we can get into trouble socially if we publicly express it.
I thought a key element of the civil rights movement was about giving people the right to walk through here or anywhere in the USA that they cared to.
Are any of the students worried about the poor, murdered girl and her family?
That is the law. Figure accordingly.
White lives don't matter. Not at all. This will never change.
Thurgood Marshall got a lot of mileage out of a story where he got off a train in a small town in the Od South and a white man warned him that he better not still be there when the sun goes down. This was an example of the most egregious racism.
There are a lot of towns and parts of towns where whites better not be after the sun goes down. They generally find that out for themselves, without advance warning.
This is true in theory but not in practice. In practice almost any one handed opening folding knife could be deemed a gravity knife in NYC. I have a linoleum cutting knife and a knife that cuts Sheetrock and a couple other construction knives. . They all require both hands. One to hold the handle, one to pull out the blade. My art cutting tool, there’s a screw on cover for the cutting section and blade.
I wonder what the ((liberals )) reaction to the Tessa Majors killing would be if she were named Tessa Eisenberg and daughter of the executive director of the south east regional ADL???????
Or Tessa Potok????
Why would they be? Tarantino is a prophet. Instead of White Boy Day in True Romance it will be Black Person Day every day.
That is the law. Figure accordingly.

“People with money think they have the right to walk through here” – no, members of the public apparently have an unreasonable expectation of safety when transiting a public park.
I remember encountering this sentiment in my former – and highly vibrant – neighborhood as well. When newcomers to the neighborhood would comment on the fact that our local playground was totally off-limits to actual families with kids or that unsecured objects in your back yard would disappear, I’d often hear “if you can’t handle living in a city you should move” as though thugs ruling the local park and your own property functioning as a Goodwill store are normal conditions. More often than not, this admonishment would come from a white person.
We definitely live in a society in which there are double standards, but they don’t run the direction the woke would have us believe.
https://nypost.com/2019/12/15/tessa-majors-was-looking-to-buy-weed-before-her-murder-police-union-president-claims/
This makes sense. College kids will venture into dangerous places in the hope of buying drugs. Most of the time the worst thing that happens is that they get ripped off, learn their lesson. This is a very sad story, but I’m glad that it’s getting attention.
Now just because it is a weapon (or an "arm") doesn't mean that it should be illegal - the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
Of course it’s a “gravity knife”. It’s not an “assault weapon” which implies moral agency because they are primarily wielded by straight white (immoral) men and so are subject to control by human agency. No, they’re gravity knives! Why, they obey the same inviolable laws of nature as Newton’s celestial bodies and so banning them would not just be wrong, it would be absurd! The force of attraction between two gravity knives is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them multiplied by the product of their owners’ footwear cost and the number of “yo mamma” disses exchanged.

It’s people who just plucked their beliefs from out of thin air, or because someone told them that’s the way the world is supposed to be. Thus has it ever been. The culture now laughs at people who believe that God made the world and everything in it in six days, and that Noah loaded all the animals on a big boat and saved them from a global flood.
But these Leftists have beliefs with no more basis in science than the stuff you read in Genesis. Most of Western Civilization believed the Genesis version of creation for over a thousand years, all because someone wrote it down in a book and some other rich, powerful people told them that’s what they were supposed to believe. People are still doing the same thing today. Different writers, different beliefs, but pretty much the same penalties for heresy.

I recall George Carlin mentioning this neighborhood in one of his routines. “I grew up in a little Irish neighborhood in New York City. On one side was Columbia University, and everything associated with Columbia University… On the other side was Harlem. And we called our neighborhood White Harlem. Where you from? White Harlem! Ooh, sounded tough, sounded bad. The real name was Morningside Heights, but that sounded too faggy!”
I guess he pulled a bunch of triggers with just that little bit of dialogue. Lucky for him he is dead or the left would kill him. Still, they may dig him up and torture his corpse, like they did to Papa Doc Duvalier in Haiti.
Nothing concentrates the mind like living near less-than-model minorities.

Man, you said it Reg:
Since New York City is about 70% “minorities” these numbers are basically reflective of demographics. Of course, many white blue collar workers commute in from the suburbs.
Taking the 2/3 trains or the B/C trains to different 116th Street stations in Harlem as opposed to the 116th Street station in Morningside Heights is a common rookie mistake which people tend to not make twice. Can make for a memorable trek that is soon not forgotten.
If the freshman student was using Google Maps, the #WOKE algorithm likely would have instructed her to walk through Morningside Park to get to the Columbia Campus regardless of the time of day. Could be cause for an interesting lawsuit against Google.
I have walked by the entrance to the park at night from the Columbia side and it gives off a definite sinister vibe. It seems haunted. There is no way I would enter that park at night.

I thought it was politically and environmentally correct to have overcrowded trains. My wife’s comment: “Not while Greta’s aboard!”
Perhaps the hoi polloi should always sit in the aisle as Greta did for a few minutes … or maybe ride on the roof like they do in (H)india. Riding on the roof creates density and, I suppose, is environmentally correct. You know, transportation for the masses who can’t afford to transit the Atlantic on environmentally correct yachts.
Note: Greta did recover (or sorts). She said that, on second thought, crowded trains were a good thing. However, she had no comment on whether the hoi polloi should ride on the roof. Greta relieved the overcrowding among the hoi polloi when Deutsche Bahn reminded her that she had a first-class ticket.

You have to look not just at demographics but at the offence rate by race. It would be nice if blacks committed crimes at the exact same rate as whites so their arrest statistics wouldn’t be “racist” but the fact is that blacks offend at higher rates. NYC has relatively wealthier and better behaved blacks than most places (which is not saying much) and some pretty rough white people (hint – never piss off an Albanian) so the %s are not as skewed. If this was somewhere like Madison, Wisc. blacks offend at 3x the white rate or more for certain crimes. Nationally blacks commit something like 1/2 of all crimes despite being less than 15% of the population.

She was walking DOWN the stairs from the campus and not up from the subway (and didn’t get very far). A lawsuit against the Google is pretty far fetched but you could argue that the Barnard administration had a duty to warn its students to stay out of the park. I really don’t recall the process by which I was warned but in my day every student knew not to go down those stairs.
As in “stop-and-fisk”?
Or as in Fisk Univ., an HBCU?
You’ll need your Fiskars to cut through the bull.
Their parents are too polite to tell them the truth.
More likely, too afraid that their kid will out them to the authorities through something said at public school. Like this case.
It’s inconceivable to me that someone who was smart enough to get into Barnard would be so dumb as to source their weed from strangers in a NYC park after dark. Aside from the obvious danger involved, you have no guaranty of the quality or purity of the product that you are buying or if it is even weed. I personally have no experience in ever buying any weed (or at least within the limits of the statute of limitations) but if I did I would make sure to source my weed from a “friend of a friend” with a known reputation for providing a good product at a fair price and I would not meet them in a public park after dark. You’re telling me that this girl lived in a college dorm and her best source for weed was to buy it (traveling alone) from random strangers in a park after dark? I don’t buy it.
Do the cops saying this have any proof or are they just trying to deflect blame away from the NYPD which allowed an epidemic of robberies to occur unchecked in this park even though they knew that there was a gang of middle schoolers running amok in the neighborhood? Everyone in the hood (INCLUDING the popo) knew who these kids were and what they had been doing in the park. They knew who to arrest and where to arrest him immediately.
I have no idea if this is the real story or deflection. Maybe both.

Man, you said it Reg:
Same here, but I wasn’t impressed with Terrace in the Sky. They tried too hard, I guess owing to the fact that just below their terrace, pain and poverty reigned. I didn’t like the food prep, and the atmosphere reminded me of Brazil, which I wasn’t a fan of. The well to do living it up amongst the poor bastards. The cognitive dissonance was too much for me to enjoy the environment and cuisine, but they did try hard. I sure as hell wouldn’t step foot in that park at night, and this was in the early ’90’s.
I used to go to Sylvia’s, the famous black restaurant in Harlem. Didn’t like it much. They tried to fancy up collard greens and grits, and that’s a tall order. Trying to make slave food into high cuisine can be done, I suppose, but they couldn’t do it. The food was lukewarm, the ribs were sub par. They did not seem very earnest in their approach. The waiters were in little white uniforms. They didn’t behave in congruence to what their attire dictated. Overall, a somewhat half-assed experience. Since it’s an historic all black run restaurant, you won’t hear white or black people say that. But it does kind of suck. Framed pictures of Richard Pryor and Muhammaed Ali and the like adorn the walls.
I think, if you look at the photos, it’s safe to say the food is as good as it looks.

As to Davids comment, the African who was just convicted of torturing and killing 2 doctors in Boston (he had been convicted of bank robbery the year before but the prosecutors and the judge nicely arranged it so his sentence was 1 day short of a year so he wouldn't be deported and could stay in America to kill doctors) claimed that he was having an affair with the female doctor. But he kept calling her by the wrong first name - Layla instead of Linda or something like that.
You want to try to ease your conscience by blaming the victim.
You are a follower of a sick ideology, bereft of honor, virtue or merit. This is your latest foray into normalizing turpitude. Shame on you.
I understand how the law is applied in NY but I still deplore the dishonest pretense that the people being arrested need these knives for their work (and by work I mean construction and not robbing people).
I have carried a “gentleman’s folder” every day(excluding Sabbath) for the past 40 years and I assure you I have never entertained the idea of robbing anyone at knifepoint. It comes in handy an average of 3-4 times a day for entirely innocuous purposes.

Brings back old memories of freedom fries, Saddam regime collectible trading cards, etc. The irony is that whatever Andrew Sullivan (as I recall) fisk’d Fisk over, chances are if it was anything to do with Iraq (or, as it increasingly now seems, even Afghanistan) Fisk probably looks like the strategic genius now.
I thought he only went as far as barebacking.
Could Amy Harmon be reached for comment? Or is she too busy fortifying her whitetopian mansion?
I have no idea if this is the real story or deflection. Maybe both.
It’s the standard deflection, or one of the two. When a white person is murdered by blacks its “They were out looking for weed,” or “She was having sex with the killer(s).”
Apologists (who were usually white) for the Knoxville Horror used the former and in one trial the defense lawyers used both.
For black on white murders, excuses, rationalizations, etc have to be found. Anything but taking them for what they are.

You’re so right about people’s potential confusion. I used to mystery-shop the 116th st post office on the wrong side of the divide and on three separate occasions was accosted by lost tourists looking for Columbia University — since I was apparently the only friendly looking white face on the block at the moment. Of course they were really not that far off the mark, if they wanted to walk across the park and climb those stairs.
I have carried a "gentleman's folder" every day(excluding Sabbath) for the past 40 years and I assure you I have never entertained the idea of robbing anyone at knifepoint. It comes in handy an average of 3-4 times a day for entirely innocuous purposes.
I carry a pen knife too and it’s very handy. But a pen knife and a locking gravity knife are really two different things and you know it. As I say, maybe it’s proper to allow free citizens carry arms (the Founders thought so) but a gravity knife is meant to be an arm and not a tool. It’s like the difference between pornography and art – you know it when you see it.
The distinction between a pen knife and a gravity knife is true, but the "gravity knives" that people are being charged for in NYC are not really different from edc folders. Of the 60,000 + arrests 2003-2013 for gravity knife possession in NYC, I would be shocked if as many as 1 percent were actually gravity knives. The overwhelming majority were ordinary edc folders. I owned a small mail order and later internet, knife company years ago and I have more or less kept up with the industry and there is no real source for low end gravity knives readily available outside of kit form. I guess I don't have to tell you how vanishingly unlikely it is, that aspiring black thugs are building gravity knives from kits. There are some reasonably priced auto openers around (mostly CRKT aftermarket kludges, and iirc S & W recently came out with a cheapish auto line), but most autos start at $100 or more. Those are a tiny, tiny fraction of the gravity knife arrests.
“Some” is one of journalism’s most notorious fudge words. “Some” usually equals a grand total of one, maybe two, or very possibly none. “Some students” probably equals one reporter and one editor.
(or are switchblades only the kind with linear telescoping action?)
Switchblade is not really a technical term but it refers to a blade that opens with a switch/button. These can be OTF (out the front) with the linear telescoping action you describe, or side opening, as most automatic knives are.
I have no idea if this is the real story or deflection. Maybe both.
Even if the story is true, it is still a deflection. I mean, so she decided to attempt to purchase marijuana in the evening, from a stranger? That isn’t overly bright behavior, but she was a Columbia student, a few steps away from the Columbia campus. I’m pretty sure the NYPD is still supposed to make some effort to prevent her from being murdered, even if she does like to smoke weed. A desire to violate the Empire State’s marijuana laws, is not customarily deemed to warrant a de facto sentence of death.
If she’d been illegally parked, would her rape be similarly excused?
If someone insists on engaging in illegal transactions with young black men in dangerous neighborhoods, nothing short of a police escort chaperoning her would have been able to prevent her murder.
Illegal parking and rape are unrelated, whereas engaging in willful interactions with young blacks in dangerous areas and the risk of danger are related.
In March 2019, a Federal judge declared the law "unconstitutionally vague.
in response to a lawsuit by New York City sous chef Joseph Cracco, who was arrested and fined for carrying a pocket knife, U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty ruled that New York's law banning gravity knives afforded police and prosecutors almost unlimited discretion to arrest and prosecute people for carrying knives commonly sold in stores across the state.
"The court recognizes that the District Attorney must have discretion to prosecute or not to prosecute criminal matters," Crotty wrote in his opinion and order. "The combination here, however, of a statute that does not specify how Cracco can identify a gravity knife and a a practice of prosecuting possession of gravity knives in an unclear and inconsistent manner provides police and prosecutors 'virtually unlimited' or 'unfettered' discretion to enforce the gravity knife statute. Under such circumstances, and with the lens of Cracco's past prosecution and intended future conduct, the gravity knife statute is unconstitutionally vague."
"The law was passed in 1958 to criminalize knives that rely on gravity to open and lock into place. It was intended to address knives modeled after World War II paratrooper knives that opened by depressing a button, whereafter the knife blade fell and locked into place by force of gravity. However, New York City police interpreted the statute to mean any folding knife that can be opened by a flick of the wrist.
As Crotty's ruling notes, a gravity knife, unlike many other weapons, is defined not by its design but by its function, as determined by the "wrist flick test." https://reason.com/2019/03/28/federal-judge-rules-new-yorks-insane-gra/
Any ‘pocket knife’ you can flick open with one hand without even a thumb assist is a gravity knife.
Steve is channeling an old joke which goes as follows,

Because he wants a safer world? Because criminals carry switch blades? Because he doesn’t want to see young girls stabbed?
Very, very clever use of the word stabbed, not killed or even died of her injuries.
Stabbed, along with 2 tragedies, the stabbee and the poor pitiful pathetic black stabber whose young life is ruined; are the words of a defense attorney, either in trial if there is one or at a sentencing hearing.

I’ve now seen the article in question and it is a perfect example of circular logic – selling marijuana is illegal, therefore it causes crime and we should further criminalize it (and give the cops something to do). If it is true that she was looking to buy grass (and I still doubt it but who knows – she was a naive 18 yr old girl) then if they made the stuff legal the poor girl could have just gone to the nearest CVS on Broadway and would still be alive. So his argument is completely ass-backward.

I thought they were worried about the image of Harlem?I think school management has its dick blowing in the wind too.
Let me guess, you live in a big city and have always worked in an office. Work in a warehouse, on a construction site, on a farm and you will know these knives are used for work.
I really doubt she was trying to buy weed. Young white people stopped buying weed from street dealers before she was born. I’m late Gen X and I don’t remember hearing about anyone I grew up with, went to school with etc. buying weed in a park from a stranger after about 1994 or 95. It would be really strange for her to do this when half of the people she is friends with probably sell really good weed in their dorm rooms. This just doesn’t pass the smell test.
No college student needs to go wandering outside the campus to buy weed. If after 3 months, she didn’t’ have a couple reliable sources, all she had to do was walk down the hall of her dorm, She’d smell the weed and just have to knock on any door. Or ask a friend or 2. Maybe at some strict small Baptist college she’d have to ask as many as 5 students, but Columbia??????????????
And what if she was going to buy weed? I’ve noticed you’re an anti White liberal.
I have no idea if this is the real story or deflection. Maybe both.
But for a whole host of reasons the story provides you with comfort.
I can read some very intelligent conservatives, like Jack D, and some of the absolutely stupidest ones, like this anon who somehow thinks that me reporting what the N.Y. Post said makes me anti white.

Thanks for mentioning the Boston double murder. It was a prime example of the standard excuse for black on white murder. BTW he was sentenced to “Life Without Parole” on Friday.
Even a dyed-in-the-wool card-carrying Vancouver liberal that prefers Asian chicks can still read the tea leaves.
THEY ARE INSIDE!
They probably mostly live on the upper east side above grand central. You get off at 125th, switch to the 6 and take it to the upper east side instead of going all the way to grand central and coming back uptown. You just have to cross a street to make the switch. Not pleasant but not a deathwish in the hours the metro north runs.

I think school management has its dick blowing in the wind too.
A lot of people think the same about London, as this rant explains:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-man/10744997/Cool-London-is-dead-and-the-rich-kids-are-to-blame.html
Both cities were moving to similar cycles I think.
Now just because it is a weapon (or an "arm") doesn't mean that it should be illegal - the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. But the idea that they are needed for work is total BS.
Jack D: Agree with you. I’ve been a craftsman for 45 years and have never seen gravity knives on a job, or at least my impression of what that style of knife is. That knife is not a workman’s knife. The tools that some commenters call a gravity knife trademan carry in their tool belts, never in their pockets when they’re not working. I’ve carried a jackknife in my pocket for over 50 years. A jacknife is a handy tool and I’ve never opened one using only one hand.
The distinction between a pen knife and a gravity knife is true, but the "gravity knives" that people are being charged for in NYC are not really different from edc folders. The Eloi/Morlock thing is not a new thing. But it is a white thing.
Whites allow hostile minorities to roost in their societies because frankly whites feel they can afford it. Affordability and toleration are closely linked.
Modern liberal whites feel they can afford essentially any carrying cost. Otoh pre-modern whites would riot and lynch the perps.
So…White culture reached toxic levels of toleration circa 1895?…

Technically I guess this would be considered a gravity knife in New York City, although that seems kind of silly because it’s just a tool that most normal Americans use for work every day. Perhaps a standard retractable stanley knife would be legal while my push button flip out style milwaukee knife would not be legal.

Isn’t that what the 9/ 11 hijackers had?
She was put in a chokehold, then slashed to death while the 13 year old watched.
All the MSM can talk about is her colored hair and punk style, as if she was to blame.
In the days of razor gangs they always slashed vertically because sideways you can hit a neck artery. Many, maybe most cops who have been killed with an edged weapon in recent decades, were killed with a Stanley type knife, they wear vests so the neck is the only place that is vulnerable to a blade and Stanleys are very common.
Anyone who only uses knives is a food processing worker who could and should leave them at his work along with the rest of company property. Electricians ect carry them in a toolbox along with other equipment. If you carry a just a knife in a pocket going through the streets you are not kidding anyone what it is there for even if you do use it at work, and if you do use one in your job you are probably extremely dangerous with it.
I would never carry a blade on me, even if I used one at work and accidently brought it home. If I absolutely need to transport tools walking through the street especially if it includes a screwdriver I wrap them tightly in several layers so they cannot be brought into action quickly then put them in the bag.
Any half-assed line cook has his own knives. But they don't fold.
I don’t know who you are or where you’re from but I’ve never even heard this kind of nonsense about pocket knives. Handguns are for self defense- nobody wants to get in a knife fight. They don’t have any winners.
The knives are their own property, very expensive, sharpened as the owner prefers and well cared for. Tool or knife theft in a restaurant or meat department is common. Plus, they don’t want others using them and damaging them. And if it’s a fish department or they fillet the fish in a restaurant the knives are even more carefully cared for.
Some chefs and meat and fish cutters use the same set of knives 20 or more years.
Her parents appear to be typical university woke progressives. In addition to dealing with the death of their daughter, and straining hard to not let themselves feel normal hatred for the blacks who murdered her, they will also endure whites like themselves slandering and blaming their daughter for her own murder. And they will strain hard not to defend their daughter’s good name because they won’t want to fuel racism.
Many bitter pills to swallow for this family.
Maybe it comforts you, but not me.
So many young people from smaller places talk about their dream of going to New York as though the world will open up to them and be so much more interesting. If you don’t have that life where you are, going somewhere new won’t change it.
Correct.
Also, if you watch enough news, television shows, and films you’ve pretty much seen NYC and what it has to offer.
Ask the NYPD.
This is unfair. Lots of teenage boys drive like maniacs; only a few end up dead. The others are just as stupid, but luckier. There but for the grace of God…
The area at the bottom of the park has now become gentrified. They have restaurants and bars down there that the students and tourists go to; however, most probably call an Uber to get home or I think they might have a campus shuttle bus but you have to wait for it…I guess for some reason this student decided to walk back through the park to get back to campus whatever she was doing there.
She sort of reminded me of that female student in South Africa who was volunteering to register black voters…The student winded up being killed by a black mob before she had a chance to explain what she was doing.
I guess that’s why its important to have the ‘talk’ with your children or grandkids about these issues. They probably think just because they like black people, that black people will automatically like them back. Unfortunately it can lead to terrible situations that are probably 99% avoidable. I think a lot of these horrific murders we hear about are probably people like this woman who blindly go into dangerous situations or areas thinking they are totally protected because they like black people and aren’t racist…Sadly it just doesn’t work that way.
I had an Asian friend who used to always have things like this happen to her…It took a while but she finally got the message to avoid certain areas and people for her own safety.
Interesting thing about this forum.
I can read some very intelligent conservatives, like Jack D, and some of the absolutely stupidest ones, like this anon who somehow thinks that me reporting what the N.Y. Post said makes me anti white.
I wonder what horrible things I would be accused of if I quoted one of Murdoch’s other media, such as Fox News.
I don't think money has much to do with it, although Columbia students are not broke, presumably. It's crazy.
When I look at what people believe today, and how foolishly they give their lives away, I can only think about the religious upheavals in Europa from the Hussites to the Counter-Reformation. It is mass-insanity.
I’d like to introduce a note of reality into the proceedings. New York City (and the United States in general) is objectively safer than it was back-in-the-day. Aside from questions of marking turf, I think most 40 year olds–black, white, other– are often surprised at the way that young people today do NOT take the risk of crime into account when going about their business. It is strange to us, but natural to them.
Our expectations and habits were shaped by a much higher-crime environment. We or friends and relatives were mugged. We were eyeballed and menaced by violent criminals on a regular basis. We were, on a regular basis, unsafe. Today’s young people do not have that body of experience.
I had this realization during the Covington Catholic drama. That kid showed no trace of awareness that the situation he was in–first with the Black Isrealites, then with the Little Drummer Boy–could go tragically wrong. That’s a huge change from when I was 17.
So it’s not surprising that a 40 year old Harlemite marvels at the fact that 18 year old white girls just walk through the park that he or she remembers as the drug-ridden hellhole that it was in the 90s.
I went to grad school at a major urban university, in a relatively safe neighborhood. As careful as I was, I didn’t know that certain youths would hang around the dorms and mug students coming home late at night, until once I was jumped at 2-3 AM, ironically going to a friend’s dorm to avoid waking home through dangerous areas. Fortunately I was big and strong and fast enough to fight them off and escape unharmed. But you never know. Once I was mugged in the early evening right around the Port Authority bus terminal, in a very crowded street. The cops caught them right away.
All we can do is try to minimize our chances of bad things happening. Sometimes I have been careless but lucky, other times careful but unlucky. Sometimes you win doubling down on a hard 6, sometimes you lose standing on 20. Play the odds, but it’s all a gamble.
I have no idea what the boy, Nick Sandmann, could or should have done differently. I'd be interested in your thoughts.
Sullivan was into fisking, too?
I thought he only went as far as barebacking.
Click on the statement by Columbia law professor Katherine Franke. Although she’s a feminist, black thug always trumps White woman victim. Franke seems to want Columbia law professors to help the thug in his defense.
Knife was found with finger prints. Defense will be these little boys found the knife in the park, played with it a while and dropped it last week and some other dude must have picked it up.
Store clerk claims the green jacket one in custody is the kid who chased a young girl into his store recently.
The New York Times won't want to know about that.
The 13 year old was described in Court as ''skinny''.
Sure, but how tall was he?
Sean, which particular police state do you live in?
AAANND the first misogynist women hater chimes in.
Will this thread become like the threads rejoicing that Deborah Staggs, Agostini and Garcia were assaulted by blacks?
“Anyone who only uses knives is a food processing worker who could and should leave them at his work along with the rest of company property.”
Any half-assed line cook has his own knives. But they don’t fold.
Even Frederick Law Olmstead didn't expect his park to be a safe place for law-abiding respectable people to be after dark. (Morningside is right near Central Park.)
What are 3 blacks doing out in the street after dark? One of the simplest easiest way to ensure public safety and a low crime rate is the sunset curfew laws .
Completely ridiculous. I’ve unself-consciously carried a pocketknife for years and years. Cub scouts get (or got) a Totin’ chip when they proved they could be trusted with a pocket knife.
I don’t know who you are or where you’re from but I’ve never even heard this kind of nonsense about pocket knives. Handguns are for self defense- nobody wants to get in a knife fight. They don’t have any winners.
This is a boomer blog. Boomers think weed. Not smack. But her behavior before the crime points to junkie looking for a fix. Not likely out buying weed. Weed available on campus. Heroin? Not so available on campus.
Also seems like her demo overlaps with opioid crisis demo. Flyover country white girl musician from a high IQ family… Pink hair. Still 60,000 opioid deaths a year (Trump has done nothing about it) and many are suburban kids from good families.
It’s not fly over country. If she were using heroin, it must have been in the last 3 months.
Remember, she got into Columbia, a top ten university, despite affirmative action discrimination against White shiksas. So she could not have been using heroin in high school.
Heroin is not popular on college campuses.
If she did H, that would be the first thing on the front page of [random newsfeed].
Also, who uses "boomer" in real life except a juvenile?
It’s exceedingly difficult to get White folks to take their own side, even dissident Whites. The first thing they do is look for a reason to throw White victims under the bus. Healthier non-whites do the opposite.

All three of these knives could get someone arrested in NYC, even though the Buck and Spyderco are not at all the same as the actual gravity knife. The only reason for this change is a Federal judge comparing the law to the police actions and Noticing what was really going on.
Exactly. That was the point I was trying to make, not so successfully.
It might be higher than that. Blacks might not report many crimes, the way many don’t vote or do other things related to the public weal at the same rates as whites. Whereas there’s (usually) no avoiding the inclusion of body counts in the latest criminal homicide numbers, although some police departments may try.
Interesting take on all this. Things can change very quickly, for better or worse; sometimes both.

I know a guy who was literally arrested after some mugger reported him to the cops for resisting a robbery by brandishing a gun. Naturally, he lacked an almost unobtainable permit, so he had to ride the rap to the tune of over 10 grand to a lawyer before he was able to walk out a free man. He was a chef, and so came back at midnight most every work night, at a time when NYC was one of the most dangerous cities in the nation.
“ He was out at 11/30 pm if he’s that stupid he deserved to be beaten robbed and if a she raped by 3 or 4 blacks. “. Why was he she dumb enough to go out at that hour? “
Answer, he or she is a waiter, chef, sales clerk, hospital worker, bus driver, cleaner who gets off work at 11/pm
That’s why most victims are out at night.
Assuming that she ventured into a dangerous neighborhood with the intent to buy drugs, presumably from young black men, how exactly would the NYPD have been able to prevent this specific murder?
If someone insists on engaging in illegal transactions with young black men in dangerous neighborhoods, nothing short of a police escort chaperoning her would have been able to prevent her murder.
Illegal parking and rape are unrelated, whereas engaging in willful interactions with young blacks in dangerous areas and the risk of danger are related.
You assume she went to the park to buy not weed, but illegal drugs. You assume she went there to meet 3 men, a willful interaction. You either don’t know, or refuse to admit it was two 13 yr olds, one 14 yr old , three 8th graders who killed her.
Kids who should have been home for dinner when they killed her. You make assumptions about the victim. I make the assumptions you’ve never lived in a normal household when dinner is eaten sometime between 5 and 7 pm when the kids killed her. A household where someone arranges dinner, even if it’s chips, soda and a delivered pizza for the kids. Or the kids can fix a meal for themselves.
You’re unfamiliar with NYC aren’t you? She and tens of thousands of Columbia students willfully venture into a dangerous neighborhood the day they move into their dorm room. For commuters, the day they enroll.
So do the hundreds of thousands of students who attend college in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, New Orleans, St Louis , Chicago, Durham, USC Los Angeles,,and other black, crime ridden , city neighborhoods
Columbia is surrounded on 2 sides by the most dangerous blackest neighborhoods in Manhattan. And it’s just across the river from the blackest most criminal borough in the city, the Bronx. With convenient bus and subway lines to connect Bronx black criminals with the Columbia U bus and subway stops.
You must work for Soros SPLC BLM or some other seriously anti White organization. Even the most insanely liberal White San Franciscans would never say such a thing about a fellow White murder victim. They’d defend the poor pitiful, pathetic, deprived little black angels, but the wouldn’t attack the victim the way you do
Which is why I do not believe you’re White. If you are, no wonder we’re on the verge of genocide. Kapo traitor
True, and the fact that the talk is what got him expelled from polite company is all you need to know about polite company.
That is the law. Figure accordingly.
White lives don't matter. Not at all. This will never change.
If Whites, who formerly represented 85% of the nation (currently 60%), who have the most economic clout, and who are the most heavily armed populace in history allow this to happen, then I don’t think future historians will shed a tear for them. Nor should they. Any group with this much power who allows this to happen to themselves ultimately deserves it.
As far as all this confusion about gravity knives, aren't utility knives box cutters? I am curious about the number of tradesmen being busted for box cutters.
Maybe the law should be clarified, although that wasn't done, it was just nullified.
And maybe there is some value to being vague. I pretty much lost any interest in smallish pocket knives because of the post 9/11 metal detectors and not wanting to bother thinking about the details. And I mostly don't need one.
Utility knives can be used to cut boxes, but a Boxcutter is a seriously sharp bit of gear that doesn’t have any legitimate use outside a grocery store.
So many of the blame the victims commenters are oblivious to the fact that tens of millions, perhaps a hundred million Americans work in restaurant, hotel, entertainment, retail, medical, security guard, post office, bus driver and numerous other jobs that involve getting off work at 10 or 11 at night and leaving home at 4am for a 5 am shift.
“ He was out at 11/30 pm if he’s that stupid he deserved to be beaten robbed and if a she raped by 3 or 4 blacks. “. Why was he she dumb enough to go out at that hour? “

Oh, there is a reckoning coming. But it will not start with the vicious murderers who killed the innocent Ms. Majors. It will begin the the authorities that implicitly endorse the murder, and be followed up with score-settling with the apologists for the brutal violence.
It will begin ugly, but it will end, … ugly. And in between it will be ugly. And the good people that abhor ugliness will denounce the sheep dogs and have them cashiered. But the honest people will salute the sheep dogs, and the sheep dogs will say “WTF?”
I have no idea if this is the real story or deflection. Maybe both.
You are a liberal, right? And you are smart, right? Maybe you should try your confessions with your priest. And maybe you could reflect on the fact that this murder was enabled by you and your fellow travelers. One-hundred million murdered in the 20th Century was not enough the slake the blood-thirsty desire of you and yours. A beautiful, innocent, guileless young woman loses her way in NYC. But somehow it is her fault.
You want to try to ease your conscience by blaming the victim.
You are a follower of a sick ideology, bereft of honor, virtue or merit. This is your latest foray into normalizing turpitude. Shame on you.
Paleo liberal is definitely a liberal in that he’s very pro black and anti White. We’ve all noticed the pattern.

Rather than a mugging or drug deal gone wrong, this sounds more like a sex attack gone wrong.
The New York Times won’t want to know about that.

Sure, but how tall was he?
The NY Times is not the only publication that has reported on this story. If there was a sexual assault involved, there are plenty of papers and websites that would love to have that story but no one except you have mentioned it.

5′-5″. Next question please.

There's no evidence for robbery at all, so it's a Limited Hangout.
You appear to have a lot invested in the robbery theory, though.
You’re making a good point. My EDC (“everyday carry”) knife is a Benchade Griptilian, an axis-locked folder. With some practice, one can flick the blade open and shut with one hand. It would be illegal for me to carry it in New York.
I use it frequently for various tasks and don’t like to be without it. I had to shake my head when the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, imperiously declared, “There is never a reason to carry a knife.” I find several reasons a day.
I’d be fine with the police taking knives off young thugs. However, big city politics being what they are, the NYPD would take far greater satisfaction in throwing the book at me for carrying one, regardless of my lack of criminal intent. It looks good to arrest an old white guy now and then.
I see no desire by cops to haul in innocent people merely going about their business whatever their race.
The types of folders the NYPD calls “gravity knives” generally have a clip that can hold them at the top of a pocket. The NYPD are trained to look for this exposed clip. If I were to walk through Grand Central Terminal and a cop spotted this, despite the fact I was merely going about my business, I’m sure he’d be happy to arrest me.
There have been cases when air travelers legally transporting firearms have been arrested at a NY airport when their flight was detained or rerouted. In other words, they were in a situation that was totally out of their control when the police chose to enforce NY’s gun laws.
“People with money think, ‘I have the right to walk through here,’” she said. “Old-timers would never do that.” …
Thurgood Marshall got a lot of mileage out of a story where he got off a train in a small town in the Od South and a white man warned him that he better not still be there when the sun goes down. This was an example of the most egregious racism.
There are a lot of towns and parts of towns where whites better not be after the sun goes down. They generally find that out for themselves, without advance warning.
Marshall was probably lying. He was the lead attorney* for the Plaintiff in Brown vs Topeka the worst Supreme Court decision ever that desegregated schools, led to bussing and millions of White children beaten, robbed, terrorized from 1957 to the present time.
* Marshall was really a well rehearsed actor with a law degree. Every word he spoke was drilled into him by the other (( lawyers )).

You say you are not anti-white. I’ll take your word for it.
I’ve been a trial junkie for longer than I care to remember and many times the “they went there to buy weed” story was totally false. Again, this and similar tropes are trotted out to smear the victims of black on white murders.
Even if true it doesn’t lessen the offense.
And why was this police official, head of the union I read, spouting off like this? He isn’t the IO to my knowledge. I’m sure (at a place like Barnard) the victim has a “friend” who would eagerly peddle the “went to buy weed” story, even make it up.
The NY Times is not the only publication that has reported on this story. If there was a sexual assault involved, there are plenty of papers and websites that would love to have that story but no one except you have mentioned it.

A human-to-be comes to life

where everything is taken care of . . . until . . .
said human-being is expelled (and expels him/her self)
into an imperfect world
where nothing-for-certain becomes his/her life / existence.

It’s a story. Stories have deeper, metaphorical interpretations.
For those who seek, as opposed to literally believing.

An early part of my racial education was a few lines in a history textbook about the Columbia sit-ins of the 1960’s. Columbia built itself a new gym- in this very park, in fact- and the “community” (who seem to have been mostly rich white Columbia students, the local blacks not caring very much) protested that the locals wouldn’t have access to it. (As it happened, they would, but- horrors!- through a different, smaller, entrance, as the gym would face both the campus and the neighborhood, and we can’t have that.) Mass protests and strikes of students followed.
The textbook presented this as if it was the most logical thing in the world. I saw it for the madness it was.
By the way, the two entrances to the gym were not a front door for the students and a back door for the Negroes. The gym was cleverly designed to be right up against the cliff of Morningside Park. Students would have entered the gym on a upper floor that was level with Morningside Drive and the neighborhood residents (who I would never have let in that gym - they surely would have spent all their time breaking into the lockers and wreaking havoc on the basketball courts) would have entered on the park/ground level. They could have made everyone enter on the top level but then I suppose it would have been racist to make the Harlemites climb all those stairs or something. They were trying to be nice by building an entrance at the bottom that was convenient for people coming from the park but no good need goes unpunished.

Must have been a Sunset Law town. It is discriminatory, but it both prevents crime and saves the town budget for policing and the jail.

Re: Decline of New York
Even before the Morningside and Jersey City murders, visiting New York had become
a rather depressing experience. All those boarded-up storefronts, few major bookstores
left, subways getting dirty again, and the latest architectural monstrosity that absolutely
ruins my esthetic experience of walking around midtown Manhattan – the skinny
1,550-ft Central Park Tower. Plus in the minds of the out-of-towners New York
is now represented by such paragons of virtue as Weinstein, Epstein, Madoff,
Weiner, etc. It’s as if there’s a dark cloud hanging over New York, and it’s refusing
to budge. I didn’t feel that 10 years ago.
Better view on the Jersey side before making the descent to the tunnel entrance.
BTW that high point is where the Burr-Hamilton duel took place.
Better yet from somewhere where you won’t end up in Manhattan.
There's no evidence for robbery at all, so it's a Limited Hangout.

2 girls, one, 18 murdered in the park. She managed to bite the finger of one of the attackers.
The other much younger 13,14 was chased into a store, knocked down and kicked a few days earlier. .
A poster commented that the girl who ran into the store was probably chased for attempted robbery but a sex assault.

Stupid and nasty bullshit.

Also, who uses “boomer” in real life except a juvenile?
She wasn't just "stabbed" -- she was brutally murdered -- an intelligent, accomplished young white woman, a student at an Ivy League school, was butchered on the street.
Ineducable young black males, who are all too typical -- emblematic, one might say -- of a group of that plagues this country, murdered a young white woman in a street robbery ("gone wrong") which would have netted them max a few hundred dollars in cash and goods -- and for that they took her life.
But Whites aren't supposed to much notice, let alone be outraged -- they should just shut up and continue to tolerate and subsidize this useless, predatory criminal class (If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent), all the while being lectured about their "privilege" by moral betters in the media.
But as revealed recently, NYC will soon have a special law enforcement unit to deal with the immediate danger of far right
whiteextremism. The phrase “gone wrong” probably ought to appear somewhere on the list of the leading causes of violent death.
The idea of being ale to defend yourself seems to terrify you. Reminds me of a liberal friend I have who was appalled that I carry pepper spray. Even if one has a concealed carry permit, as I do, it is wise to also carry a non-lethal response. But he was appalled even by the non-lethal response. He prefers to place his safety in the hands of fate.

He was gearing up for his second public incarnation as a rap star.
Are there any minority stagehands in New York?
Almost all of them, except for old-timers like myself, but not necessarily on Broadway, and certainly not at the Met. But most stagehands don’t work in the sexy world of the Great White Way, we toil in hotel ballrooms and event spaces doing “hang and bang” – loading in, running the show, and loading back out for corporate events. One of the bigger equipment rental companies here is known for hiring mostly Puerto Ricans, and the ‘legacy whites’ are all in their 50’s with few new white hands. All of the companies I know (including the P.R. heavy one) use foreigners to keep the wages down. I work in crews that are usually more than half foreign (Brazilians, Portuguese, Caribbean Islanders, Mexicans, Guatemalans, Polish, Eastern Europeans) and black. It is not uncommon for me to be the only white American on a crew. Some companies (the lowest wage payers — they provide low-skill service like hanging drapes and truck loaders) ONLY use black help. And some of the guys carry knives. Some guys just carry knives as a guy thing, (‘my everyday carry’), others because they live in sketchy neighborhoods and/or travel the subway late at night (we work late when the show is over, taking it all down and putting it in the trucks). One thing I like about the biz is there is little political correctness on these crews, everybody takes and gives a little shit to each other. The only women (very very rare) are gay and dykish, able to push and pull with the boys. If they’re not they quit/don’t last. We police are own, and if you’re not pulling your weight you take an enormous load of b.s. from the rest of the crew.
Also: Morningside Park has been a no-go, day or night, since my mom lived in the neighborhood in the 30’s and 40’s, and was still in the late 70’s and early 80’s when I lived in the Bronx. I agree there probably was no ‘stop and cop’ in the park, and if she was going to buy pot she was just using the stairs to go to someone’s apartment on the other side. As a Feminist she must have felt invincible, just as good as any man. Except not as strong, not armed, and not situationally aware. My neice, also a self-declared feminist (in high school), got rejected by Barnard a day after this, and the whole family sighed in relief, although herself was very bummed.

So the stereotype in “The Producers” is correct- on the team of the director, his assistant, their choreographer, and set and costume designers, all different ultra-gay male stereotypes, is one woman, the lighting designer, who, surprise surprise, is an ultra-dyke.
Well OK, but a chef working 13 hour days is going to carry such a special set of bladed implements in a purpose made case and take them straight home for a much needed rest, and so the cops will know he is genuine.
And this is why all the hipsters and students who moved into New York after, say, 1995 (or who were born after that date) can curse Giuliani and vote for a Communist like Di Blasio. They have no idea how bad things were, and how bad they’re becoming.
The line in the headline was quasi-funny in the original. Rush Limbaugh- and I’m pretty sure he didn’t invent this line- would say, “Doomsday comes and the Washington Post headline reads, ‘World Ends Tomorrow: Women, Minorities Hardest Hit.”
OK, ha ha. But here you specifically have a crime against *white* people and the headlines still read, “Minorities Hardest Hit.”
Long Time New Yorkers must all be saying:
“It was nice while it lasted”.
The mainstream media should never have let out the fact that London had more murders than New York City for the first time since ~ 1840 thanks to:
1) Mayors Guliani/Bloomberg and the NYPD doing sensible, effective police work
2) London England being over run by Black African and Black West Indian street gangs who kill with knives instead of guns.
Typical, idiot Lib Leftists, Communists, BlackLivesMatter and just this certain type of New York Jews – these groups have to what they do because:
“That’s who we are”.
What’s the point of having a pro Castro/Sandinista Lib Communist mayor married to a Lib Leftist Black Lesbian co-mayor if New York is going to enforce laws against robbery, public urination, rape & murder etc.?
So it’s back to the future, and New York is the insane, criminal Black, immigration anarchy place that nativists in the 1920s warned the rest of the nation that we would become if we let Frankfort School marxists and lower east side atheist anti Christs take over everything that matters.
Not that such a small persecuted group could ever take over important things like our television and movie industries, Harvard Law School, the Supreme Court etc.
In Sweden, if you don’t go to the park, the park comes to you!
Malmo gang task force to spread to other cities as criminals become more ruthless, says Swedish police chief

Everyone knows it’s a robbery gone exactly right.
I strongly advise readers here to train on using non guns for urban self defense. Knives are effective, but only if you have the confidence and will to act cut, gut someone.
One key point to remember is to work hard to cary, use self defense weapons that are not perceived as bad guy weapons. Don’t worry so much about THE LAW. We’re talking urban America where Lib Dems run everything and these are all sanctuary cities with rampant illegal immigration, child sex trafficking and yeah, lots of shootings, car jackings and murder.
If you live in New York or Chicago like I have done/do – don’t have a private car, it will only bring you hassles. Use public transport and uber.
But back to the knives. Try to find knives that do have a legitimate work purpose like carpet cutters, or just knives that don’t look like bad guy scary weapons. The switch blade is a bad guy scary knife, but practice with thumb openers. It’s like a cowboy drawing a gun. Practice, practice, practice.
I have my favorite homemade self defense weapon – a one handed club, hard rubber garbage disposal hose with a fish eye steel screw to attach things like compass, keys, bottle opener. It’s a bit like those used by Socialist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe – get beat with a rubber hose.
The American Knife and Tool Institute (AKTI) claims they were part of the effort to clarify NY laws. I think the issue is with pocket knives that do not have any mechanical assistance to deploy the blade but do not require 2 hands to deploy the blade.

White people have had a crack epidemic? Interesting. How is the weather on Planet Jack?
I assume your referring to opiods? I think this was pretty well played out on a different string. Don’t worry, nobody is blaming you for the behavior of the Sacklers. Not all of (((you people))) are that way.
The textbook presented this as if it was the most logical thing in the world. I saw it for the madness it was.
I was there when the Columbia sit-ins happened and even then I thought it was stupid. The NYPD still carried billy clubs in those days and tuned up a few of the occupiers when they cleaned out the buildings, which was fine with me.
I was, and still am, surprised at quickly and totally the adults in charge folded. It was the beginning of the end for US colleges and universities.
You’re right. The Sacklers would come to white people’s houses every night, like Santa Claus (except not down the chimney – us Jews have a thing about chimneys) and force goyim to chew up their OxyContins until they were hooked real good. They used their Jewtrickery and told them that it was really Chiclets gum and would freshen their breath.
Its not like anybody was prescribed the stuff by doctors or anything. Sure, goyim hooked on opiods that started with a legitimate (they thought) prescription from a doctor and black people smoking crack...that's a perfect analogy. Lots of people were prescribed crack by their doctors. Or maybe they started with something milder "Here smoke this, you'll feel better". Then worked their way up to crack.
You’re being willfully obtuse. The lawyer sophistry is amusing at times, not so at other times.

The gym was never actually built because the administration caved. I think you are right in that this was the beginning of the end in that “activists” saw that they had power. Act like spoiled children and you’ll get whatever you want. No need to go thru the full democratic process, no need to behave like a gentleman if your side doesn’t prevail in the normal process. The reward for “activism” should have been expulsion and jail and then the whole juggernaut would never have got going. Now our entire national infrastructure and educational system is collapsing because we gave veto power to whoever wants it. Fortune favors the bold.
By the way, the two entrances to the gym were not a front door for the students and a back door for the Negroes. The gym was cleverly designed to be right up against the cliff of Morningside Park. Students would have entered the gym on a upper floor that was level with Morningside Drive and the neighborhood residents (who I would never have let in that gym – they surely would have spent all their time breaking into the lockers and wreaking havoc on the basketball courts) would have entered on the park/ground level. They could have made everyone enter on the top level but then I suppose it would have been racist to make the Harlemites climb all those stairs or something. They were trying to be nice by building an entrance at the bottom that was convenient for people coming from the park but no good need goes unpunished.

What % of opioid addicts started with legitimate pain prescriptions (as opposed to people going to a pill mill to get prescriptions in order to get high)? I think that is a lie promoted by trial lawyers. Agency is the enemy of trial lawyers. To a trial lawyer, agency isn’t based on moral principles but on who has the deepest pocket . The deeper your pockets are, the more agency you have. If you have zero money, you have zero agency and it’s someone else’s fault whatever “it” is. I’ve had opiates after surgery and all they did was make me constipated so I couldn’t wait to stop taking them. I (unfortunately) see pictures in the paper of the people who are overdosing on fentanyl. Most of them look like young healthy people who would have had no need to start taking opiates in the first place.
I think you're confusing the two, its not "opposed to going to a pill mill", its they started with prescriptions, doctors eventually cut them off, then they had to go to a pill mill. Like you I was prescribed opiates after surgery and ended up throwing them all away after one or two - all they did is make me sleep for 10 hours then spend the following day in a daze, but some people are more addiction prone than others - that doesn't make feeding the addictions okay.
There may be something to the trial lawyer angle but I think the reality is somewhere in the middle for the simple reason that there are countless examples of otherwise normal people falling into the addictions. Its not like meth where if you scratch the surface the people were already degenerates (what type of person decides "oh hey I'm being offered meth for the first time...I'll try it, what could go wrong'?) or crack where they're also already degenerates.
Maybe its too broad of a brush but if bad things happen to degenerates I shrug my shoulders, when otherwise productive people get caught up it is time to look a little closer.
The joke is on you, old man. Jack D is openly anti-white neocon and you are a white liberal traitor who always embraces braindead anti-white narratives. If you are too stupid to understand how the obviously fake “buying weed” narrative is attempt to distract from the racial angle and blame the white victim, that’s your problem. We are going to show no rhetorical mercy to treasonous boomer retards.
“women should know not to carry purses. Men should hand over their wallets and not fight back. What you expect my boy to do that White man hitting him stead of giving my boy his wallet? Victim should know not take the bus subway. Victim need to work day shift not be getting off 10 pm. What he she expect? “
Anyone in law enforcement or criminal law has heard it a million times.
The police report states they arrived and found her body at 1736 hours. 5/36 pm. It’s dark by 5 pm or 1700 hours in December, but it’s also rush hour when millions of New Yorkers are leaving work.
Paleo liberal and obwabyabdy seem to think a White has no right to use the public streets at 5-5/30 pm, rush hour when millions are out on the street in NYC.
I hope none of these blame the victims guys never serve on a jury.
I haven’t seen the remake, and don’t know anything of B’way, BUT the lighting guy is the toughest manly man on a crew, so that’s funny. (their stuff weighs the most, with big fat cables to lug around, and the job is dangerous because of electricity and working at height- gotta know your stuff and be a little fearless.
Yeah, that’s what I do.

“Wrap your screwdriver” should be the new safety motto.
I agree. Paleo liberal never fails to defend blacks and denigrate Whites. It’s as though he writes the scripts for all dose black mammas blaming the victims of their thug churren’s crimes.

“They probably think just because they like black people, that black people will automatically like them back.”
And all the black people they saw on TV in their formative years were really nice, or great musicians and dancers, or scientists and police officers, no bad eggs among them, ever. Who wouldn’t like such people?
So when they meet black people in real life … what could possibly go wrong?
No surprises here. On those rare occasions when I take the MetroNorth train I am always struck by how many relatively young white people enter and leave the 125th Street stop. Harlem--like so many formerly minority-dominated, crime-ridden neighborhoods throughout the country--is undergoing gentrification, with the residents being dispersed to Section 8 housing in the formerly white 'burbs.
Architectural Digest’s youtube channel just showed Doogie Howser’s (aka Neil Patrick Harris) house in Harlem.
An insulation knife may look scary but is perfectly harmless in the hands of the dedicated professional.

On the news this AM another girl, Karol Sanchez 16 was kidnapped off a NYC street last night. She was with her mother, a van stopped 2 men grabbed her, knocked the mother down and took the girl.

Doesn’t your company and others have storage rooms at convention centers and hotels for your equipment and cables? We do, but we have 5 year contracts that are always renewed. The hotels and convention centers have $18 an hour technicians as helpers but our guys and gals are IBEW. Conventions are the easiest and most pleasant job. Better than hanging off a bridge tower in a cold wind.
One, they have to be old enough. Two, you have to be forthright; but, diplomatic in how you describe dangerous situations and people to them. Lastly, you have to make sure they understand this is information only to be shared between you and them, no third party sharing allowed.
It's complicated...
Yes, the kids have to be smart enough to handle this information. It’s a judgement call by the parents when (if ever) they can trust them.

Karol Sanchez rescued by NYPD. She and Mom live upstate visiting relatives in NYC. No news about the Orcs who kidnapped her.
Karol Sanchez is a "black Hispanic".Blacks in Honduras are originally from the Caribbean but migrated for work (post slavery) on banana plantations, etc. in the 19th/early 20th century.
This was almost surely done by someone she knows and not a bunch of strangers. She was probably in on it.

How big is Morning side park? Some of the smaller parks in Los Angeles have 12 ft high iron spike fences with a gate that’s opened around 6/am locked 8/pm. Chain link fences can be cut with clippers. But those iron spike fences would need a good sharp metal saw, time and effort.
Morningside Park, just never unlock the gates. Let the Harleminites witch about it. Put a pack of wolves in there and throw food over the fence for them every day.

Absolutely right. She surfaced about noon Tuesday. She’s unhappy at home. What teen ager isn’t? There was a major fuss and police action. Coming a few days after Major’s killing it really shook up the city.

The park is 13 blocks (over 1/2 mile) long but only 1/2 block (300 ft) wide). It it basically the side of a steep natural hill that separates Morningside Heights from the plain of Harlem. It became a park because most of it was too steep to build on. The upper side of the park is almost 100 ft high than the lower side.
In NY, 300 ft is a lot. 300 ft can mean the difference between being in one of the top universities in America and being in a slum.

Oddly enough, this was the scene of a Revolutionary War battle. It was one of the few skirmishes Washington won at the beginning of the war, before he started the big retreat west of the Hudson River.

There’s also some scary fish knives and a real, restaurant professional Chinese cleaver from Chinatown. I’ve got the small size. The big size is for butchering pigs.
I am so sick of hearing white conservative men make those kind of comments every time a white person is attacked by blacks. It’s a stupid and cowardly response. It shows have deeply those types have internalized white passivity and defeatism.
The White men commenters who rejoiced at Agostini and Garcia being attacked assumed they were spinsters at a spinsters night out. When in fact both were with husbands who defended their wives and were also assaulted and bruised.
Someone even assumed Tessa Majors went to the park to buy not weed but drugs from 3 black men. I doubt that commenter even read the article, just wanted to attack another White.

What is the weapon on the left? What does Elmo have to do with this? Are electrician’s pliers illegal weapons in the UK? How do you use them? Do you pinch the victim’s nose with them? Are Brits OK with this – in the US people cry foul if you try to take away their machine guns. I don’t know what would happen if they started rounding up screwdrivers. Yes. Just like screwdrivers, scissors, files and small rocks.
You could grab their ear very hard and twist?
Perhaps you could bludgeon someone with them?
Welcome to clown world.
Cookie Monster draws little kids attention. But kids always want to do the forbidden. So they will want to play with knives.
But the 10 & older kids aren’t interested in Cookie Monster. So it’s the dumbest public interest thing ever.

I wonder how many knife-wielding thugs saw that box and thought “I don’t consider myself a coward, yet this sign informs me that only cowards carry, so I shall deposit my knife in this box instead of stabbing Muhammad, D’Quantrayshawn, or Bongo-Bongo with it”?

13 blocks long. 12 ft spiked top fence, another 3 ft of razor wire permanently locked gate motion sensor and blaring alarms. Problem solved.

I better not immigrate to the UK with all my furniture and housewares. If the UK sissies ever got a look at my kitchen knives I’d be imprisoned for life. Sabatier carbon, not stainless steel, sharpened as my Dad taught me.
There’s also some scary fish knives and a real, restaurant professional Chinese cleaver from Chinatown. I’ve got the small size. The big size is for butchering pigs.

What enrages me about those blame the victim comments is that they are identical to the words said by blacks when their sons are arrested for robberies and attacks on blacks Whites, or any other ethnicity.
I wonder how many thugs saw that box and thought “Hey, look, a big box full of knives. This sure is a convenient place for me to acquire some nice cutting implements that would otherwise be difficult to obtain since I am in the bloody United Kingdom. I shall take these knives from this large box and go deposit them into Muhammad, D’Quantrayshawn, and Bongo-Bongo! ”
You’re not a White man are you? You’re a black, Asian Hispanic anti White activist aren’t you? Or a black thug’s mamma who asked an 8th grade graduate to put your Ebonics screed into English.
The dangerous weapon on the left could be a garden trowel with spikes or sawtooth instead of a smooth edge.
It could be some professional bakers tool. Maybe to poke holes in top pie crust or pastry to let the steam out so it bakes nice and crisp. Something to make decorative patterns in cake frosting Maybe some old fashioned thing to drag through rolled out noodle dough to make noodles.
Maybe to stab holes in a roast to absorb seasoning or pieces of garlic & rosemary or the fat on a roast ham to absorb brown sugar and cloves on the ham. Something to drag through the fat in a roast to get the fat crisper and browner and make the roast look prettier.
What if it’s an antique sugar smasher from the days when sugar came in solid pieces? Could be anything used to chop up food. Maybe to chop up fish for geltifite fish quenelles codfish balls. Some old mashed fish recipe, first a mezza luna then this finer chopping thing? Or to finely mince liver for pate?
Banning gas stoves in California, banning knives and cooking equipment in the UK. Soon we’ll be eating instant oatmeal made with hot tap water.

Doesn't look like one. Adam Smith gave the right answer - it's a supposed to be broken wine bottle (except good luck getting a wine bottle to break that way in real life).
Hockmesser is often translated as mezzaluna (I guess there's no real English word) but it's not used the same. A real mezzaluna has two handles and you are supposed to use it in a rocking motion on a cutting board. A hockmesser is used in conjunction with a wooden bowl as a sort of shtetl food processor.

I looked closely at the screw driver. It’s a torx Star shape impossible to cut or stab anyone. Next they’ll ban eyeglass repair kits and manicure tools.
Thanks for the link.
A hockmesser?

Hockmesser always use one handed and rocking notion too. Someone can find the English word for it. Williams Sonoma or Chefs Catalog must have one.

Yes It could be a broken glass bottle. We Americans have the 2nd amendment and are far more civilized. When annoyed with another person in a bar we just shoot him like a gentleman instead of being an uncouth hooligan and breaking a bottle.
The English word for hochmesser seems to be that chopper thing. But now we know it’s a broken bottle.

The person who came up with Cookie Monster doesn’t have children and never taught or had much contact with children.

“hey ho gym crow has gotta go”
Nobody is more respected or feared in the black community as gang leaders. They are the neighborhood chieftains and what they say goes. If a tenant rubs a gang leader the wrong way that tenant will soon be forced to move. Some of his incomes comes from extorting fast food restaurants and retail stores, but drug sales make up most of his income.Average gang leaders have over twenty five members.
Rabbis that want to end violence against Synagogue members should contact these gang leaders and make a cash deal. Bashing of every Synagogue Jew would end once the well paid gang leaders spread the word.
