The immediate beginning of the trouble was a Geneva summit between two presidents that apparently went wrong. We don’t know what went wrong. The pro-Western Russian officials ran away to Georgia and Israel; they are being replaced by anti-Western officials. This East-West break will not be reversed with ease.
Russians are very similar to Ukrainians. Both are stubborn fighters. Throughout the 20th century they chose different strategies: Russians became internationalists, Ukrainians preferred nationalism. The Ukrainian nationalism was anti-Russian, while Russians harbored no negative feeling towards Ukrainians. It was natural for Ukrainians to flirt with anti-Russian powers. Yet when Ukrainian officials began to declare themselves NATO allies, even the most international Russians became alarmed.
Both Rome’s Pope and Noam Chomsky were capable of understanding the immediate casus belli behind Ukraine: NATO had barked at Putin’s door, and he reacted. In December 2021 Putin diplomatically proposed that NATO withdraw to its mid-1990’s line, and moreover he suggested that peaceful discussion about NATO’s borders might prevent future conflict. Putin proposed an international agreement on NATO’s borders, a political solution that everyone could agree on. This proposal was disregarded with nonchalance; NATO refused to discuss the idea. Putin was rightfully irritated. Further attempts to argue across the West/East divide weren’t successful. The West declined Putin’s politics. And the war began.
NATO began shipping in armaments and ammunition, and deployed their spies. Their intelligence gathering allowed them to sink a big Russian ship named Moscow. They provided the coordinates in real-time for Russian ships and planes. From the very beginning it was clear that Russia fights NATO more than Ukrainians, who they consider to be brothers. This wartime pathos was quite an unexpected development. Putin had always been known as a soft leader; he refused to be drawn into wars. Russia has avoided war for many years under Putin’s rule; and generations of Russians have become used to a peaceful and prosperous life. Suddenly, by circumstances beyond their control, they have been switched to life under war and sanctions.
In hindsight there were plenty of warnings. Russians were blocked from the Olympic games by an international conspiracy of blatant hypocrisy. Russian athletes were accused of doping. Now, Western athletes also use doping, but they know how to get around the rules. The Norwegians claimed they have asthma, and they need special performance-enhancing drugs to heal it. The Americans had excuses of their own, and so did the athletes of many other nations. Russian RUSADA man Mr. Grigori Rodchenkov was bribed by the US to deliver proof of Russian doping. The Russians claim the evidence was falsified. In any case the Russian official defected westward, in a step unseen since the Cold War. Russia was tagged as a pariah throughout the games; she was not allowed to play her national anthem nor display her flag. Russians have been persecuted by the Olympic establishment for generations. There is an undeclared war against Russian athletes; here is the full story. The pattern is undeniable. Russian athletes are routinely penalized for activities that other nations practice with impunity. This has to stop.
Fortunately for everyone, the war in Ukraine has practically dried up. The Ukrainian leadership desperately begs for UN help to keep the war going, as if the Azov Battalion and the rest of the violent, cruel, thuggish militants need to be paid to shoot people. US Democrats have drafted a nearly $40 billion Ukraine War aid package, which was recently single-handedly blocked by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. The Ukraine War has become a political football in the USA. Both the Neocons on the right and the Neoliberals on the left hope to ride this war into Congress.
Russians are unhappy with war as a solution for the Ukraine crisis. They speak of “betrayal”, and that means the political steam behind the offensive is getting thin. Instead, Russians think they can derail the NATO war and the international sanctions by judiciously withholding Europe’s gas and oil. The Arab Oil Embargo brought the US to its knees in the 1970’s using just that strategy. NATO exists to fight wars; bringing war to NATO simply feeds it. The only way to defeat NATO is to starve it. Russia has great quantities of oil, gas and wheat. She produces aluminum, iron, coal, steel, titanium and cheap electricity. The Russian economy has been called “bulletproof” because of its ability to withstand geopolitical shocks.
How exactly are sanctions hurting Russia? Banking freezes are simply pushing Russia into the waiting arms of China, which literally has an unlimited need for Russian energy and commodities. The US Petrodollar is on the cusp of being denominated in Roubles. Stories of boycotts by Twitter, Facebook and Pornhub underscore the ludicrous nature of Western sanctions. “EU blacklists Abramovich, targets energy, luxury sectors…” It seems that only Russia’s Jewish Mafia will be hurt by the international sanctions. The efficacy of Western sanctions is being wildly exaggerated by the Western media and the implacable coming of winter has always been a harbinger of Russian victory. As Biden says, “It will be a very Dark Winter.”
Germany needs Russian energy. It always has. It always will. There is simply no other option for Germany. As the home base of NATO, Germany is in a unique position to forge a lasting peace with Russia. Germans might benefit greatly from increased trade to the East along such routes as the China-Europe Railway Express, but they remain choked by their old millstones. The business of war is no longer profitable. The big players are now supplying China with everything it needs to manufacture the world’s wealth, and Russia is in a unique position to be a major producer. The rest of Europe is also conveniently located to benefit from the new Chinese empire, if they could only cease squabbling long enough to draw a profit. The dying Anglo-American empire is the only entity that profits from division along the Eurasian continent.

Excellent and timely article. I was just reading “Late Great Planet Earth”, the 1970’s “Christian” Zionist (light on the Christian, heavy on the Zionist) CIA propaganda tract “Over 15 million copies pulped”. It uses Ezekiel to associate Russia with Magog and predicts the “complete annihilation of the Russian forces and their homeland”. Jews, Freemasons, Zionists and other Judaizers have a strong antipathy towards Russia that never ceases to taint the Western media.
It seems clear to me that “Zelenskyy” is a Jewish actor who is willing to play his role until the last Ukrainian is dead, after which he will retire in Florida. What I have seen on the TV of Ukrainian war scenes looks suspiciously like video game footage, along the lines of the “Ghost of Kiev”. It seems that modern warfare is less about armies and more about gangland violence, ethnic cleansing, refugees, humanitarian crises, and managing public perception.
Excellent takes. Thank you.
The Atlantacist elements in Russia were not going to support stopping oil and other exports to NATO countries, even if Russia had ignored Ukraine’s violence against ethnic Russians, accepted a fully NATO’ed Ukraine, and watched as Ukraine developed nuclear weapons with improved ballistic missiles. And recall the U.S.-Ukraine security pact calling for a military invasion of Crimea. The U.S.’s ongoing economic, biological, social and media wars were not sufficient to bring about regime change nor wake up Russia’s Atlantacists. So, why not let the West shoot itself in the foot and leave Russia’s Atlanticists no choice in the matter, since kinetic war appears inevitable anyway?
Such a strategy has risks, but the West’s risk-taking during a time of economic fragility and societal disruption is off the charts and stupid beyond belief. The U.S. may keep its European pets and its Japanese and Korean slaves, but its fevered dreams of world domination are evaporating into the wind.
Here is the smoking gun, open on the Internet.

Daniel 9:11
And all Israel have transgressed Thy law, and have turned away from hearing Thy voice, and the malediction, and the curse, which is written in the book of Moses the servant of God, is fallen upon us, because we have sinned against Him.
That’s not a gun, that’s a bomb. That’s poison. Pure genocide. That is a good material to discuss here, if someone could make a post on it.
The late stages of the Thucydides’ Trap, being played out. Once the west loses, Russia will have to deal with Israel directly, no proxies.
‘Germany needs Russian energy. It always has. It always will. There is simply no other option for Germany. As the home base of NATO …’ — Israel Shamir
Aye, and there’s the rub: Germany is an occupied country; has been for 77 years. It lacks sovereignty over its foreign policy.
Former US Amb Richard Grenell lectured German industrialists in 2018 that they needed to stop doing business with Iran, after the US unilaterally pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal.
“It’s somewhat like the colony’s new master has arrived to take up his post,” Sahra Wagenknecht, a German lawmaker.
Indeed it is. In both Germany and Japan, political debate is abnormally attenuated because defense policy is externally imposed by US occupiers.
Technological giants, political pygmies: will Germany and Japan, treated like dependent adolescents, ever break free of their control-freak American parent and become real countries again?
During the US revolution, Russia sent warships into New York Harbor to back us against England. Again, during the American Civil War Russia sent ships to harass the blockage runners helping the CSA. For their help, we invaded Russia at two points to influence their revolution in our favor.
Russia damaged Hitler’s war machine to the point the US and the rest went in to pick up the pieces. The Marshall Plan helped to rebuild our enemies, Germany, Italy, Japan et al ; for Our ally Russia, Nada.
Think Russia has a long memory? We sure don’t.
I agree with Here Be Dragon. This merits serious analysis. I hope Unz or someone else can tap someone or provide a link.
Very careless statement. Russia only arrived very recently where it was economically capable to initiate the present defensive offense. Also, the China-Russia level of understanding and depth of mutual commitment has been a recent phenomenon.
Without reading it, my guess would be it is a variation on the Which Path To Persia? Neocon plan by the Brookings Institute.
This discussion is an oversimplification. A few addditions:
Russia gave up on internationalism after the neoliberal Russian humanitarian disaster of the 90’s, and the violation of the no-NATO-east informal agreement in 89. Putin gave Ukraine a much better financial deal than the West was proferring in 2014. Then there’s the “guaranteed” election in Ukraine in fall of 2014 that was overrun by the Maidan coup. The Minsk accords that were supposed to cool things down were never followed. This article did cover how Putin’s diplomatic overtures were dismissed. As far as oil and gas are concerned, it’s flabbergasting that nothing is mentioned here about the western bankers’ sanctions, or the stealing of 300 billion of Russia foreign reserves. Even so, Russia kept shipping oil and gas as per contract, so long as there were channels for payment. It’s the West that is injuring itself and blaming Russia, like a spoiled child kicking about on the floor threatening to hold its breath until it faints.
Ukrainian “nationalism” was an exacerbation of ethnic differences into outright hatred, first fomented by the Germans during the wars and today US, NATO and the EU. This was an inflammation of existing tensions left over from the ansatz partitions of Poland-Lithuania in the 1790’s, and government reaction to the nationalist riots of the 1860’s. Even before this, whether the earlier Zaporizhian cossacks were loyal to West=Poland or Russia was a moot point historically, with Ukrainian loyalty shifting back-and-forth between Poland and Russia. See the Treaty of Pereslavyl, the Khmelnitsky uprising, or, if you want entertainment, Taras Bulba. Ukraines loyalties have turned historically east to west and back many times before.
But these differences were the sort that enlightened international organizations like the EU were supposed to ameliorate rather than inflame. If they truly wanted to defuse tensions, according to their much vaunted “international liberal norms”, a good place to start might have been to sponsor DNA testing to determine whether Ukro-Nazis claims that they were really a different “Aryan” race from the Russians had any basis. After all, the inventor of the Ukrainian language was the Moscow-educated poet and linguist Taras Shevchenko, the Antonov monster transports and jet turbines were built in Kiev and the most advanced jet trubines in the world were (still are?) built at the Motor Sich plant in Zaporizhia. And then there’s this portrayal of Ukrainian cossacks reacting to an Ottoman ultimatum, painted by a sympathetic Russian artist:
https://www.wikiart.org/en/ilya-repin/the-reply-of-the-zaporozhian-cossacks-to-sultan-mahmoud-iv-1896
It’s not as if all Ukrainian-Russian historical experiences were, or have to be, fractive. Nuland should have taken her cookies and stuffed them, and likewise with all the other western “”liberal” leaders whose policies have had such invariably destructive consequences.
The Czar wintered what was left of his fleet in two US ports in 1863-64 to keep them safe in neutral harbors from possible attack by Britain and France. A decade earlier the two superpowers launched an unprovoked war on a Russia which, like Germany in the next century, had grown strong enough to challenge their global dominance. It was feared that Russia’s 1863 suppression of yet another abortive nationalist insurrection in the province of Poland might furnish the imperialist powers with an excuse to destroy the warships that survived the siege of the Sevastapol naval base in Crimea that claimed a hundred thousand Russian lives in 1854-6.
Having met a lot of both Ukrainians and Russians and seen both countries, my impression is that the Russians are more intelligent and less aggressive, while the Ukrainians are rather arrogant and mean, in spite of being more primitive at the same time.
There are two different kinds of Ukrainians. One is the urban people and the other is the village people. Those from the villages are the true, genuine Ukrainians. A large number of peasants migrated to cities in the sixties and seventies, so in fact there are a lot of people of peasant character living in Ukrainian towns. However these are not urban people.
Back during the USSR era, in most Ukrainian cities people were speaking Russian. Even those genuine Ukrainians were speaking Russian as well, though not without an accent because at home most of them would continue to speak Ukrainian, as most people in the villages did.
But there was one region, in the whole of Ukraine, where people spoke Ukrainian in the cities – the West, in particular that part of it which used to belong to Poland. From there the most amazing people were coming, who would often impress me with sheer ignorance to the point of losing speech for a moment. One of them told me, “Ukraine is the richest land in the world. The Russians are stealing from us. Were it not for the Russians, we would be as rich as Switzerland.” And he meant that.
An apparent difference is that the Russians as a nation was a melting pot from the beginning. There were not all but Slovenes, but also some Finno-Ugric peoples and even Scandinavians, and Baltic peoples – all of them together formed the nation we know now as the Russians, and even though the Slavonic part was at all times the predominant, there was no discrimination of the others among them.
And the Ukrainians, in contrast were formed as a people, who had been at all times an indigenous population under some alien people’s reign – first the Khazarian, then the Russian, then the Polish and Lithuanian, and then the Russian again. The Ukrainians had not been an independent nation, and had not had a sovereign state of their own till the collapse of the USSR, although as a people their historical age is almost the same as that of the Russians.
Perhaps for that reason the general attitude of the Ukrainians toward the others has been hostile and envious at all times. Be it the Russians or the Poles, or the Jews – the Ukrainians have hated them all. Their feeling of being abused and oppressed has deep roots. The Poles were not treating them well and despised them. The Jews were working with the Poles and collected taxes from them. But the Russians considered the Ukrainians to be of their own blood, and never treated them as an inferior or alien folk.
The original Ukraine was a peripheral region of rather insignificant size, a larger part of which had been occupied when the Cossack Hetmanate was established. That was their first attempt to gain independence, however it was bound to fail. The Cossacks preferred to pledge allegiance to Russia, rather then to be conquered again. The land of the Hetmanate was then in the eastern territories of the Polish–Lithuanian state, it had no access to the sea, no mountains and no Odessa and Kiev.
Three quarters of territories of the modern Ukraine were conquered, purchased and annexed from Poland and the Ottoman Empire. Along with these liberated and acquired territories, the land of the Cossack Hetmanate became what is known as Little Russia, a part of the Russian Empire. After the Empire had been transformed into the USSR, Vladimir Lenin created the Ukrainian Republic.
All the territories of Little Russia, except Crimea were included in that new state, which had no independence, but had its own government and borders. These borders would have never become so broad, if the Ukrainians were indeed a genuine nation that creates its own real state, and conquers the land it lives on and protects it from invaders. The best case scenario is the state of Ukraine might have been established on the land of the Cossack Hetmanate.
Later, more land was gifted to them – Galicia, in the west and Crimea, in the south. Both regions were transferred without their population having been asked whether they wanted that, and the same as the area of Donbas, Crimea was populated for the most part with the Russians. There were also a bit of Tatars and Greeks, but there were no Ukrainians and it has been like that till the recent annexation of the peninsula, after the Maidan coup.
The point is, that although most people see the current events as a war of aggression or a war of conquest, it is in fact a war of liberation. The people of Donbas, the people of Odessa did not choose to become citizens of Ukraine. Most of these people are ethnic Russians, who speak Russian at home with their children. These people do not want to be a part of this state where non-Ukrainians are treated as aliens, and are humiliated on the state TV.
The Russians are not taking what is not theirs.
Must have been that painting that inspired this fragment by Guillaume Apollinaire:
Plus criminel que Barrabas
Cornu comme les mauvais anges
Quel Belzébuth es-tu là-bas
Nourri d’immondice et de fange
Nous n’irons pas à tes sabbats
Poisson pourri de Salonique
Long collier des sommeils affreux
D’yeux arrachés à coup de pique
Ta mère fit un pet foireux
Et tu naquis de sa colique
Bourreau de Podolie Amant
Des plaies des ulcères des croûtes
Groin de cochon cul de jument
Tes richesses garde-les toutes
Pour payer tes médicaments.
A truly Orwellian statement. The so-called proposal was essentially a threat backed up by troop positions at the border, pure bullying in violation of international norms. Russia had agreed to the NATO expansion (which it provoked by its bad behavior) in a 1997 agreement in Paris. All the phony at-our-doorstep whining was merely a petty pretext to cynically confer blame on NATO.
After it has become exhausted, Russia will find out how unprofitable its aggressive war will have been when it gets the substantial reparations demand for the wanton destruction it is causing. Russian people will paying this war debt for decades. More top talent will emigrate; its society will likely be devastated, once again, but it will still remain a major producer of natural gas.
‘Russian people will paying this war debt for decades.’ — Been_there_done_that
Fortunately ‘we’ have but $30 trillion of debt, including several trillion from our excellent adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The cost of servicing it will roughly double over the next five years, thanks to recent increases in interest rates. That is, a $300 billion expenditure in FY2021 may double to $600 billion annually — if rates don’t rise even more from here.
Hapless Russians can only envy Fortress America’s rock-solid financial footing. /sarc
Everything about this RAND Corporation document is a shameful betrayal of America’s founding principles. The document’s sponsors, authors, and primary audience are not strengthening America, but instead are putting the future of America and the rest of the world in grave peril.
I wonder why this report is publicly available?
Someone is supposed to read this, perhaps the Russians? To remind them: “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you.”
Supportive of what came later and triggered the special military operation..
America is in the Thucydides trap for a reason. Over 50 years and even longer, under a regime imposed by an unelected institution which I will not name but simple call “the wonderful people who brought you Dred Scott,” American society has been truncating the development of the largest population group and one with a proven ability to produce educated professionals, engineers, technicians and skilled workers in numbers in favor of a preoccupation with developing disadvantaged minorities.
In fact, including disadvantaged minorities in the academic system and workforce should have been a big nothing in terms of its impact. Instead, the heavy-hand, draconian system that was put in place altered the entire system of social relations, especially in the matter of career entry.
At this point, the new system has metastasized into a cancer which which will eventually, not destroy the organism, but become the organism. Some non-whites may see the injustice of what is happening and even the existential hazards inherent it, but ever so few will lift a finger to help because for none of them is anything at stake over the arc of time, the generation, which a human being normally is able to perceive.
The replacement population – the non-European immigrants who have arrived in America largely after 1970 and their progeny – now has reached critical mass (the number is about 90 million right now) as is large enough to replace the legacy population of the progeny of settler and immigrant whites is every significant activity. The health professions will be the first to become primarily replacement, if they aren’t already. Academics is going. So is public employment. Middle management, upper management, skilled work all could go. The last to go will be farming, but the will come when legacy Americans will hear that farming is another one of those jobs that Americans wont do anymore and that Americans are beginning to be replaced in farming by Indians, Chinese and Korean. Maybe it’s happening already, and we’re just not being told.
Then there is the position of blacks in all of this. As I see, African-American society has no stake in all of this, or maybe even a small positive stake in replacement. Either way the deal is the same – outreach for the talented people black society can produce, the opportunity for remunerative careers in entertainment, the arts, the media and professional athletics, ordinary jobs for ordinary people and an economic lifeline for hapless.
While all of this taking place, America will be in a state of weakness. Whether it really works or not and America comes back cannot be determined.
When it is all over, though, they, the other, will be “we,” and the people we call “we” today will become “they,” the other. The machinery is already in place, and all it has to do is roll on under its own momentum.
I have to say I disagree. I think the Russians are in for the fight of their lives. Things seem to have cooled down because the internet and other media are being smothered.
Soon Putin will have to make a decision, whether he will let the Ukraine troops trapped in the Donbass flee back to Western Ukraine or wipe them out now. If allowed to go back they will be retrained, rearmed and Russia will have to fight them all over again.
Russia’s only way out is victory.
Just to clear up some nonsense written by this ignorant person:
Sometimes. Other times they fought against the Russians:

And of course Mazepa.
Hetmanate of course included Kiev:

Border in 1740 (Hetmanate in grey):
You probably don’t even now the difference between the Hetmanate and the Zaporozhian Host.
They literally voted for independence.
Neither Soviet nor Ukrainian censuses agree with you with respect to Odessa.
In Odessa oblast (province) the population is 63% Ukrainian and 21% Russian.
Here is percentage of ethnic Russians by administrative division in Odessa oblast:
Highest is city of Odessa with 44%.
And most Irish speak the English language. By that logic the people of Ireland should be liberated by the English?
Ukrainians are fighting against the Russians right now.
Correction: the region with 44% isn’t the city of Odessa. The city of Odessa is 29% Russian.
The true basis of the Russo-Ukraine War is a proxy war being conducted from afar and with great cunning by the warmongering Anti-Nation in Palestine (see https://www.academia.edu/76372363/To_Sevastopol_With_Love). Thus, readers will understand there is only one way for the Russians to bring this dangerous war to a halt before they are annihilated by NATO–indeed, they could win it promptly, practically overnight.
To protect itself, Russia must focus its ultimate military power against the actual enemy, whose base is not Warsaw, London, or Washington, D.C., but Tel Aviv. Russia must publicly say, “Any nuclear threat deployed against us will be countered with prompt retaliation against Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv will be obliterated if Russia is attacked.” Why not? It is reasonable and will work.
The Russian threat against the Anti-Nation must be made publicly. Why? A separate analysis (https://www.academia.edu/50785276/Critical_Analysis_of_Hartmanns_Life_of_Jehoshua) proves that the Anti-Nation is cowardly in spirit from first to last; it will respond appropriately when it knows the game is up.

Naturally, the enemies of Russia (Atlantic Council, Washington imperialist think tanks, etc.) characterize its foreign policy as obstructive and its leader suddenly unhinged. But see above who is actually behind the geopolitical chaos and who is actually unhinged. Start with Netanyahu and the bloody Zionists, and then you will begin to have insight into the source of war and mayhem in our world.
Dear AP, now an ignorant person will teach you a lesson.
Cossack Hetmanate was a small piece of land in the Central Ukraine, when it became a part of Russia. All the other territories on the ap that you posted were added later after the Russo-Polish War. At that time the Hetmanate was a province of the Russian Empire.
Cossack Hetmanate
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cossack_Hetmanate
“After the Crimean Tatars betrayed the Cossacks for the third time in 1653, Khmelnytsky realized he could no longer rely on Ottoman support against Poland, and he was forced to turn to Tsardom of Russia for help. As a result, the Zaporozhian Host became an autonomous Hetmanate within the Russian state.”
The Ukrainians had no strength to wage a war on the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and would have not won a war. The Russians conquered those territories and those lands were a part of Little Russia and not of Ukraine. From the XVI century Little Russia had been the official name of these territories. Not Ukraine.
Kiev was not a part of the independent Cossack Hetmanate.
Russo-Polish War (1654–1667)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Polish_War_(1654%E2%80%931667)
“The Russo–Polish War of 1654–1667, also called the Thirteen Years’ War and the First Northern War, was a conflict between the Tsardom of Russia and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth ceded to Russia the fortress of Smolensk and Ukraine on the left bank of the Dnieper River, including Kiev.”
And regarding who voted for independence and percentage of Russians in Ukraine, the statistics after collapse of the USSR are fake. That is obvious when you compare them with the statistics of the USSR period. The reason is simple – Ukrainization of the population, due to which a large amount of ethnic Russians were registered as Ukrainians.
For example – in the 1989 census, the population of Ukraine included 22% ethnic Russians, that is 11,5 million people. And in the 2001 census, the population of Ukraine included 17% ethnic Russians, and that is 8,5 million people. Where are the lost 5% – the 3 million people, the ethnic Russians that had been there twelve years ago?
They didn’t disappear anywhere, but this little manipulation is what allows you and those of your ilk now present this fake statistics and claim that most people in Odessa are Ukrainians, which is not true.
The general amount of population in 2001 was the same as in 1989, the difference of 0.3% is negligible. However the share of Ukrainians and the share of Russians changed significantly, for example – the share of Ukrainians had grown from 73% to 78% – the same lost 5%, who are ethnic Russians, were registered as Ukrainians.
Let’s take a closer look?
http://2001.ukrcensus.gov.ua/eng/results/general/nationality/
Odessa region, in 1989 – 54.6% Ukrainians and 27.4% Russians, the rest is other ethnicities. That means that of 2,45 million people there were 4.6% more Ukrainians. The difference is negligible, and that includes the population of villages.
Odessa region, in 2001 – 62.8% Ukrainians and 20.7% Russians, the rest is other ethnicities. As clear as it can be, it shows that ethnic Russians had been registered as Ukrainians. The numbers correlate. How can they turn a Russian into a Ukrainian?
And yet they did that in all other regions, which is obvious from the statistics.
Even in Crimea the number of Russians was decreased from 65.6% to 58.3%, even in Sevastopol from 74.4% to 71.6%, and in Luhansk from 44.8% to 39.0%, and in Donetsk from 43.6% to 38.2% – while at the same time, the number of Ukrainians was increased in Luhansk from 51.9% to 58.0%, and in Donetsk from 50.7% to 56.9%, but these manipulations do not change anything.
Except for allowing Ukraine to lie, with the help of lunatics like you.
Your lesson is only of your own ignorance.
This is 1654. You will notice that Kiev is right in the middle of it:
Hetmanate’s independence from Poland:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Zboriv
According to the concluded agreement, the number of Registered Cossacks increased to 40,000; the Polish army and Jews were banned from the territory of the Kiev Voivodeship, Bratslav Voivodeship, and Chernihiv Voivodeship; governmental offices in the Cossack Hetmanate could be held only by Cossack leaders, the Orthodox Church was granted privileges[2] and the Crimean Khanate was to be paid a large sum of money.[3]
This is because in 1663 Poles who along with Hetmanate were at war against Moscow took control of those territories.
Was the Tsar’s census also fake? It listed Little Russians rather than Great Russians as the majority in those regions. Kherson guberniya (which included both Odessa and Kherson) was 54% Little Russian (Ukrainian), 21% Great Russian, 12% Jewish.
Some moved to Russia, others died off, others were people who were half Russian, half Ukrainian who decided to change their official nationality.
Thank you for confirming that both under Soviet and Ukrainian censuses Ukrainians easily outnumbered Russians in that territory. And the numbers were close to those of the 1897 census too. Russians were never a majority in that territory. Remember how in your ignorance you claimed that Russians were the majority there?
As for the small difference in 5% or so it was mostly just people of mixed descent changing their nationality. Under Soviet rule a half-Russian half-Ukrainian was a Russian, afterwards he may have chosen to be a Ukrainian.
Are you really that stupid or simply pretending to be?
That map that you are showing is not of the independent Hetmanate. Treaty of Zboriv did not make Hetmanate independent. During the war with Poland Hetmanate had been a part of Russia and participated as a part of Russia.
Are you kidding me?
“The conflict was triggered by the Khmelnytsky Rebellion of Zaporozhian Cossacks against the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Cossack leader, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, derived his main foreign support from Alexis of Russia and promised his allegiance in recompense.”
“Although the Zemsky Sobor of 1651 was poised to accept the Cossacks into the Moscow sphere of influence and to enter the war against Poland–Lithuania, the Tsar waited until 1653, when a new popular assembly eventually authorized the protectorate of Ukraine with Tsardom of Russia. After the Cossacks ratified the agreement at the Pereiaslav Council, the Russo–Polish War became inevitable.”
“The war ended with significant Russian territorial gains and marked the beginning of the rise of Russia as a great power in Eastern Europe.”

The only short period of Hetmanate’s independence is shown on the map in my comment. Learn history.
Oh they decided to change – why? Until then they had not had a desire to change anything. And it is known to me for a fact that even people who did not have a Ukrainian parent were registered as Ukrainians. Some of those people are my acquaintances.
And if you want more proof, look at this map.
“This map visualizes data from the 1926 First All-Union Census of the Soviet Union, showing the majority – more than 50 percent – ethnicity of the rural population in each district of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic.”
You can clearly see that neither in Odessa nor in Kiev were there more than 50 percent Ukrainians, and indeed 5% is negligible in amount, but it changes the maps, doesn’t it?

It confirmed its independence, which existed from 1648 and which included Kiev:
https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Cossack_Hetmanate
“After many successful military campaigns against the Poles, Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky made a triumphant entry into Kiev on Christmas 1648 where he was hailed liberator of the people from Polish captivity. In February 1649, during negotiations in Pereiaslav with a Polish delegation, Khmelnytsky had made it clear to the Polish that he was the sole autocrat of Rus’, positioning himself as the leader of all Ukraine.”
There was several wars involving Poland, Russia, and the Hetmanate; sometimes the Hetmanate was allied with Poland, sometimes with Russia. Khmelnytsky’s successor Vyhovsky fought against Russia.
When Ukraine wasn’t independent people of mixed descent didn’t decide to register themselves as Ukrainians? How surprising.
I know people who chose to change it. I also know ethnic Poles who changed from their ethnicity. So?
I never claimed the city itself was over 50% Ukrainian during Soviet times, just the provinces. In 1897 Kiev was a small mostly Russian city of only 250,000 people but Kiev province (population 3.6 million) was only about 6% Russian; most of the Russians were just in Kiev. With urbanization the Ukrainian peasants moved into the city, the city grew large and attained a Ukrainian majority. Kiev City did so sooner. The city of Odessa became majority Ukrainian only in 1941:
1897 census: http://www.demoscope.ru/weekly/ssp/rus_lan_97_uezd_eng.php?reg=533
Both Kiev and Odessa provinces (Odessa was in Kherson province) were majority Ukrainian in 1897, in Soviet times, and after independence.
Let me remind you that we are not talking about Ukrainian patriotic fantasies. We are talking about history – that is about what really happened. Some uprising of a bunch of people somewhere does not count, if it did not change anything on the map.
As a matter of fact it was generous to say that Hetmanate had any independence at all. They only de-facto controlled that very small piece of land, which was ceded to the Russians. Even then it was officially a part of Poland. You don’t know the history, son.
When Ukraine wasn’t independent people of mixed descent didn’t decide to register themselves as Ukrainians. Your nationality was derived from your father’s certificate of birth. You father’s ethnicity was your ethnicity.
Since the collapse of the USSR they began changing people’s names and started registering everybody as Ukrainians. Unless you explicitly requested to not do that you would be registered as a Ukrainian, regardless of your true identity.
And according to 1897 census that you referenced, the city of Odessa was predominantly Russian. The whole of the district of Odessa was predominantly Russian – by far. Read what you reference before you post it.
Is there more information about the Russian doping issue somewhere? Especially about the Valieva case? Thanks.
I will propose another view, or additional, depending on what is meant with ’empire’.
Just like Russia fatally adopted a Western theory, that of communism (in it’s own way), China is also a clone of the West, adopting Western views, not being able to produce vision on its own. All progress of China, which is only economical, while the cultural progress is totally absent, depends on imitation of the West (of course implementing it in their own way). In the terms of Spengler, China is in a phase of pseudo-morphology, just like Russia went through a disastrous phase of pseudo-morphology, and is still grasping to find it’s lost soul. China is maintained by artificial forceful means, just like Russia when it was communist. China is not even at the recovering phase of trying to find it’s lost soul, like Russia. Clone cultures will explode someday, just like a man who is living the life of another will eventually crash from exhaustion, being cut of from his own spirit, and be forced to deal with the alien artificial adaptation. The new Chinese ‘Empire’ is merely impressive for those who look only at economic success, a fetish imposed by brutes. An Empire is a collection of Cultures, freely breathing, a country which cannot produce its own culture like China is merely a swollen balloon, an empire of uniformist slaves and imitators, lots of slaves surely makes an impressive sight.
China is culturally-spiritually asleep, beaten down, after decades of communist disaster, after adopting an invention of the West, communism, they adopted Western capitalism in their own way in order to not rot away and be totally left behind, like a cunning man getting too quick too rich from the work of another man. China’s cultural flourishing is ages and ages ago, China is like a man not even capable of remembering that he has a soul of his own after many disastrous and violent imitative side trips during the twentieth century.
It is to be awaited when the inevitable rot in the rigid system, through lack of fresh air, just like in the former Soviet Union, causes the collapse of the whole artificial ’empire’ of enslaved clones.
The worry for China in the West is a matter of being impressed about what has come to be the main reason for beating ones own chest, economy, a case of hopefully temporal cultural decline which once the promise of the world, the US is going through.
The Faustian Western powers that be will not accept Russia on it’s own terms, in as far as Russia has regained itself. Suggesting that it is not about Ukraine at all, and it is more than just NATO expansion. Perhaps a time of isolation is needed for Russia to recover from the aggressive power of the West, to find itself, to find self trust? Though China is a false partner.
China is itself a place whith many St’. Petersburgs, lots of soulless ghost cities, and ghostly city dwellers, moving on rapidly to become more ghostly. That is a bad partner, Russia still has many cultist adherents trying to imitate the West, for which China could become a substitute for inspiration.

Advise you read up on history –China has been around 5,000 Years ( USA -245-with 222 of them actively engaged in war) and was #1 during reigns of Qin, Tang, Cui, Yuan, Ming –been there done it.

It’s hilarious seeing Russia cry about being bullied by NATO considering the only reason NATO was invited into Eastern Europe was because of Russia’s past actions. Maybe Russia would have more credibility in Europe if her behavior in Eastern Europe wasn’t similar to the US’ in Latin America – a string of meddling, illegal invasions and coups. All their claptrap about the multipolar world order can be applied to Eastern Europe as well – how about Russia keeps its influence within her borders where it belongs?
Also LOL@the people here using historical arguments to justify Ukraine having any of her current land. Ukraine would need to return land to all her neighbors if history was a valid argument. Ukraine had no problem with being Russia’s bitch when Russia was stealing land from everyone around Ukraine and giving it to Ukraine. Only the dumbest Ukrainian propagandists appeal to the historical context of the region to justify anything in Ukraine’s favor.
We have printing presses that can churn out trillions. Why worry.
