The FBI, which Americans are meant to trust with matters of life and death, is unable—or unwilling—to confirm whether U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) perpetrated fraud by marrying her brother, Ahmed Elmi, to enable him to obtain a coveted green card, thus granting him permanent-resident status in the United States, and a path to citizenship. But the bureau is said to be “investigating.”

Conversely, the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, had little difficulty gathering a critical mass of facts, enough to conclude that, in 2009, Omar did indeed secretly wed said sibling. The newspaper, and anyone else suggesting the same, has yet to be sued by Omar. Could the story be true?

As it happens, a Somali community leader has also outed Ilhan Omar as an outlaw. Abdihaikm Osman Nur contends that the Somali-born freshman congresswoman “had indeed married her brother.” So reported Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Despite “a lack of paperwork in war-torn Somalia,” which complicates an investigation and a definitive determination, the British tabloid dug up the requisite information that the FBI has yet to release. The young man whom Omar is alleged to have married certainly bears a remarkable resemblance to the congresswoman. They’re both … pretty (although Elmi looks happier and a lot more festive).

It was in August of 2016 that Mr. Nur, aforementioned, seconded the story first published by Scott Johnson, of the Power Line blog: Omar had married her sibling, ostensibly to allow him to stay in the U.S. As the Daily Mail had relayed, Mr. Nur took issue with Omar’s alleged marriage-cum-immigration fraud. It would appear that the British tabloid was more vested in the truth, as this patriotic Somali told it, than was the FBI.

To date, these are the facts on the fraud alleged to have been committed by a member of the U.S congress. Yet nobody is likely to do more than mutter at the striking absence of scruples in Ilhan Omar. For not only does she appear to flout the law, but she also offends sensibilities: Omar had first married Ahmed Hirsi, father of her children, in 2002. Bigamy and incest (even if the relationship is unconsummated) are cultural taboos.

Contrast Omar’s treatment in the United States with the manner in which the Dutch government treated a lesser form of immigration fraud committed by another Somali, Dutch lawmaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Conservatives love Hirsi Ali, as we should. Ms. Hirsi Ali has been a lionheart when it comes to exposing Islam as an inherently radical political system, impervious to reform in its current form, and incompatible with the Enlightenment values to which she ascribes and for which she has been a valiant champion.

Hirsi Ali first became known for her artistic and idealistic collaboration with Theo Van Gogh (1957-2004), a Dutch filmmaker. Van Gogh was a descendant of painter Vincent van Gough (1853-1890), who, one hopes, needs no introduction. The relative of the great Dutch artist was slaughtered on the streets of Amsterdam by a Muslim because he produced a docudrama, “Submission,” for which Ali had written the script. The film depicted the subjugation of women in Islam and across Muslim countries. A note targeting Ali by name was pinned on the poorman’s body.

A Somali refugee just like Omar, Ms. Hirsi Ali put shoulder to the boulder and rose to prominence in the Netherlands. Unlike Omar, who Is always in full roar against her fellow Americans, Hirsi Ali has been a model of lucidity. (It helped that she looked like a model.) She certainly embraced and promoted classically liberal views, more compatible with her adopted homeland than the views militantly spewed stateside, by the seething Ilhan Omar.

Nevertheless, and perhaps because the Dutch pride themselves on being a nation of laws, Ali’s Dutch citizenship was forthwith revoked, in 2006, when it was discovered that the parliamentarian had lied on her 1992 asylum application. Rather than seethe, however, she had the decency to resign her post and express contrition.

Contrition and humility are not in the behavioral repertoire of Ilhan Omar. Her putative infractions, moreover, are way worse than a few fibs on an application form. “Tax avoidance, violations of campaign financing laws and the marriage fraud”: America has a con-woman for a lawmaker, but where’s the law?

  1. There is no reason that Omar should not be fully investigated and if being found to have broken laws, fully prosecuted. The fact that this story has been percolating for a year and a half without any traction from the authorities, shows that someone is playing defence for her. Is it the Democratic Party that is afraid to offend the Muslim demography? Is it Obama with his vast residual influence blocking tackle for her, remains to be discovered. Let there be a resolution soon as the already tarnished political system is going to be further soiled.

Agree. If shes broken the law, then let the chips fall where they may.
Was the “brother” a blood brother or merely an adopted brother ? (ie is there an incest issue here or simply an immigration issue ?)

As much as I despise this woman, she has one thing going for her. She can (and has) criticized American politicians for signing the loyalty oath to israel, pledging fealty to that sh!tty little country in the middle east.
She can get away with it and should continue to do so…

  5. Sean says:

To commit perjury, you have to be under oath, and you have to knowingly fib about something that’s relevant to the case at hand. (Your statement must also be literally false—lies of omission don’t count.) In contrast, you can break the false-statements law by lying about an issue that’s “within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government,” even if you’re not under oath. The false-statements law is worded so broadly that it can apply to almost any interaction a private citizen has with the government; in practice, it’s typically used against people who lie to federal investigators or who file false documents with government agencies.[…]

The two are very similar, but false declarations tend to be easier to prove. For one thing, perjury convictions must be based on evidence from at least two witnesses; false declarations can be proved without any witnesses.

Ilhan Omar may have forged some marriage papers to save her brother from a mortal situation. For this ‘sin’ you condemn her.

    However: “Conservatives love Hirsi Ali”

    Indeed! Consider.

    Ayaan Hirsi Ali:
    – Fellow with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University,

    – Fellow with the Future of Diplomacy Project at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at The Harvard Kennedy School,

    – visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., and

    – member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

If sin can be consider as ‘quilt by association and contribution”

    Who is the greated sinner?

  12. @Alternate History

Could it be that the deep state opposes investigation of one of their favorites?

  13. Omar should not be in the United States, the same as Mercer, but she has done less harm to the country than Emanuel Celler (D-Zionism) did. We do not need members of either Judaism or Islam in the US, all should be stripped of citizenship and deported.

    • Agree: anarchyst
  14. Binyamin says:

I do not like Ilhan Omar’s policies, but this story of Ilhan Omar marrying her brother to get entry to US is fake news which has been circulated by various internet sites for some time. It is interesting this news first appeared in WND, a conspiracy site which specialises in generating fake news. The theory has been discredited because Ilhan Omar came to America when she was 12 and how can you marry anyone at that age? Even the dysfunctional US immigration system would see to that-and let’s face it, our immigration system is dysfunctional because someone like Mercer would not be living in America if it wasn’t. Mercer quotes from the British tabloid Daily Mail-which like most tabloids is not the most reliable of sources.
It is interesting that it was WND which first circulated the fake news story that Obama was born in Kenya.
To many Americans, the story of a 12 year old girl escaping from war torn Somalia and reaching the corridors of power in Washington would be regarded as feel good. But not if one happens to be a failed immigrant driven by jealousy and who is stuck in a glorified cupboard in a less desirable part of Seattle.
One immigrant screeching that a fellow immigrant should be deported! Be careful Mercer. If by some legal quakery Ilhan Omar is deported, the same people will come after you. Beccause your personal immigration story is not exactly trouble free with daughter refused re-entry to the States and I am sure there are a few other skeletons.

‘Whataboutism’ doesn’t play well here (as if it does anywhere, really) since this woman’s crimes go to the very laws that let her ‘lot more festive’ (i.e., gay) brother into our nation so that the Somalis wouldn’t kill him.

She’s also been seriously mentioned with regard to the other frauds the article highlights … so why no investigation? What’s the worst that could happen — we send some Somalis back home? Big deal …

She is currently working on a big, big article exposing the anti-American activities of AIPAC and the shameful history of dual-citizenism.

  18. Hibernian says:

We don’t have to take Ms. Mercer’s word or that of any far right web site that the Somali leader mentioned above confirmed the story. Mainstream sources say the same. That’s not absolute proof. Absolute proof of anything is very hard to find. The question is why is the FBI moving so slowly, to confirm or deny the report. And anyone with any sense knows we’re much better off accepting a Mercer or an Ali as immigrants than an Omar.

How does the fact that she was 12 when she came to the US prove that she didn’t contract the bigamous, incestuous, fraudulent marriage? No one has alleged that the marriage occurred when the family came to the US. It was contracted to allow the brother to stay in the US.

  19. Biff says:

  22. @Tom Verso

She came here as a 9 y/o refugee and has nothing but hatred, and disdain for the laws of, the country who saved her from a life in the 3rd-world. Her Dad or Grandad was some sort of tyrant butcher, and that’s why her family got out.

Ilhan Omar is nothing but a lying grifter, and a piece of shit.

Read some VDare and learn something, Tom Verso.

  23. Dan Hayes says:
    @Tom Verso

A postscript for what it’s worth:

Ms Ali is currently partnered with neocon luminary Niall Ferguson. They are eminently suited for each other – a relationship forged in the deepest recesses of Hades!

  24. Your Jew is showing Ilana. You are wasting pixels on small time grifter Omar (who notably refused to pledge allegiance to Israel) while the most crooked timber in the Peoples House consists of Jews Schiff and Nadler.

  25. Quebecer says:

    Oh come on.

Why is it that the fact she’s Jewish must always come up ? Agree or disagree with her post, it’s your choice, and I’ll be interested to hear your arguments, really.

But give a break to the only female commenter on this website. You have to admit she has guts to raise her voice in this rough neighbourhood.

    • Agree: Dan Hayes
  26. Dear Quebecer: Please! Rough neighborhood? This tiny cohort of cowards that dog the Mercer Column (on this site only) is nothing but an echo chamber of “Little Men,” whose combined intelligence is even more diminished than their flaccid manhood.

These “Little Men” hide behind their email handle, nipping at my heels in fractured, mangled sentences, using nothing but ad hominen and Jewy conspiracy. What would make you imagine this kind of thread is a threat to me?

If you think the “Little Men”—the minnows, the reptilian brains who spit ugly invective on this thread, all to prop-up their inadequacies—are a match for me, you’re misguided. You don’t know who’s The Man around here. Wake up.

You seem a polite, mild-mannered person (certainly a gentleman or woman worthy of respect–and a response). But you, too, are living in a tiny echo chamber if you imagine any writer worth her salt even notices a pack of rabid, mangy, fulminating zombies, who hound their intellectual betters because they are so threatened.

Don’t you see? These concerted, mindless, anti-intellectual, reflexive attacks on this thread alone can be likened to the defensive actions of a single-celled organism, an ameba, trying to expel something that irritates it. An amoeba can’t reason, it reacts primitively.

To repeat: You have here on the thread that dogs me a collective; something like a big amorphous amoeba. The entities here, aside from you, are all the same. Nothing between their ears, but the drive for survival. The bitches on this thread act like a simple, single-celled organism who will, instinctively, act in unison in order to preserve its base integrity.

Mercer loves real men, but she threatens Small Men. They want me gone. I love it. Bring it, bitches!

In any event, Quebecer: I suggest that you, a decent, manly individual, separate yourself from this pack of dogs (with apologies to dogs for the unflattering figure-of-speech). Remember: By virtue of their cowardice and intellectual impotence—the hounds on this thread are no match for me, or you.

Being an Old Testament traditionalist, I instinctively despise weak bullies who, relying on anonymity, cower behind their cyber parapets, to gang up on one woman, because she’s stronger than they are. So, time permitting, I might one day embarrass a few publicly.

Real men are strong. They like a joust. And they delight in a few good women, even if they disagree with ‘em. Strong men have a sense of humor. Two come to mind in my 20 years of writing the “Paleolibertarian Column.”

Writing for the Times Literary Supplement, a liberal gentleman named Anthony St. John wrote, “I would run for my life if I saw Ilana Mercer coming my way! Does she eat nails for breakfast?”

And billionaire investor Victor Niederhoffer—such a fun, eccentric man—said this: “You can’t win an argument with this woman. I’ve tried and failed.”

One day, time allowing—after all, there is so much life to live—I might just take some extremely unkind cuts at each “Little Man” who hounds me on this thread (never making sense, and only ever emitting rather scary threats).

Can the collective of “Little Men” afford it? Do these “Little Men” want to lose face, when they are already lacking in the proverbial male bits? I don’t think so.

As anyone having to do deal with him knows, he is as big a crybaby as Mercer (now apparently, the world’s greatest victim).

Agree. Mercer needs to be in Israel where she belongs. Her main objective is to muddy the waters to take the spotlight of the massive harm that Jews and Israel are doing to America and the world. She’s a fraud.

  32. @ILANA Mercer

We have our differences , Ms Mercer, but I can’t help but admire your honesty. You are one of the very few ex-South African ex-liberals who has repented. The others – they hide out in the Bordelais or the Adelaide Hills – you and I know their names. After years of maligning white rule South Africa, they have fled and keep absolutely quiet. Their hypocrisy reeks to high heaven. May God preserve you.

No wonder Illana like Hirsi Ali. Neoncons and Zionists (same breed) love any Muslim that criticizes other Muslims or Islam. If Omar committed a crime then she should be punished. But when we do that, let us not forget other criminals serving in the congress and the government. People who violate the constitution of the United States are prominant in the government. All the congressmen and senators with dual citizenship and dual loyalties should be punished as well.

  35. As the politico said: “For my friends, everything. For my enemies, the law.” Óscar Raymundo Benavides Larrea (March 15, 1876 – July 2, 1945) Peruvian field marshal, diplomat, and politician who was the 45th (1914 – 1915, by a coup d’etat) and 49th (1933 – 1939) President of Peru.

  36. Anon[794] • Disclaimer says:

He’s a blood full, not half sibling. Brother is gay. Omar continued living with real husband. Brother used their address. Presumably no incest, just bigamy’s and immigration fraud.
