  1. I guess Deborah Fallows is right–Dutch does sound like “joke-English”.

  2. better than finnish, joke-language.

  3. Well tbh English is just a bunch of Frisians mispronouncing French 😉 I think if I was to learn another European language it probably be Dutch. I go to the Netherlands couple times a year with work. Funny enough alot of the sounds that english people have issues with in Dutch (Dutch G for example) are present in Irish.

  4. There is an English version of this commercial, btw. But glad you can enjoy the idea in any language that can be consumed.

  5. It was in English on American TV 2 or 3 years ago.

  6. English is the saxon-danish-norse-french pidgin language.

  7. “Beer is proof that God loves man..”

  8. Imagine a student in a German class. The student’s pronunciation of German is terrible, and every third word or so he just uses the English word. That’s pretty much how Dutch sounds to me.

Reading Dutch is even more amusing. The words look really strange, with their “ij”s and “oo”s, but once you sound them out you pretty much end up with something that you can either match to an English word or a German word. My only problem is that while I know a lot of German words, I don’t really know what most of them mean 🙂

  9. Why is this awesome? I speak Dutch and English, and I’ve been annoyed at it in both languages. It’s lazy stereotyping. I’m just curious – what did you like about it?

  10. I’m with Jessica, I prefer this one – much less lazily stereotypical.

  11. In fact you might detect a few themes emerging here about Australian males, which I can assure you are accurate and have been as long as I have been observing.

  12. Then of course there’s the big production epic with a cast of thousands –

One day genetic engineering will do for us all what the Japanese have done for Ronald McDonald.
