“Whites exist objectively,” said Sam Francis, “but do not exist subjectively.” Our political adversaries know we are white. Government policies track and sometimes penalize whites. Major corporations and government institutions promote an ideology of “white privilege.” However, many whites themselves don’t think of themselves as white or want to be seen as white. Unfortunately for them, they don’t have a choice.

The Washington Post recently announced it would capitalize “black.” However, in contrast to the Associated Press and Columbia Journalism Review, the Post said it would also capitalize “white.” “Stories involving race show that White also represents a distinct cultural identity in the United States,” the Post said. It added that many white immigrants to the United States had separate ethnic identities, but “these diverse ethnicities were eventually assimilated into the collective group that has had its own cultural and historical impact on the nation.” Well, yes it has. Not to put too fine a point on it, we built the nation.

But both leftists and “conservatives” were angry.

Leftists:

Karen Attiah, last seen vaguely threatening white women on Twitter, explained that the Post would still use a lowercase W in “white power” or “white supremacy.” Of course, logically, you could argue that that is when it is most deserving of capitalization, if upper case recognizes a self-conscious, collective identity. However, the general objection to the Post’s new rule was that it treated white people as a distinct group. Miss Attiah seemed genuinely baffled:

Some “conservatives” also don’t want whites to have an identity.

The leftists have to square a logical circle. First, they tell us “whiteness” is a social construct that was used to justify oppression. The late Noel Ignatiev, who infamously called for abolishing “whiteness” and wrote How The Irish Became White, popularized the silly idea that “whiteness” initially didn’t include the Irish and other European groups. Thus, there is no whiteness. There are white ethnicities such as German-American or Irish-American, but no “whites,” because whiteness is an artificial but vicious system of oppression.

However, “white fragility” also tells us that all white people, without exception, are “racist,” and government policies that discriminate against whites require a biological standard of who is white and who is not; otherwise people with just a trace of black ancestry could sue for affirmative action. If “whiteness” is just a social construct, it follows that people of any race should be able to claim they are black, as Rachel Dolezal did. And if race is a social construct, how can Derek Chauvin be accused of “racism” in the death of George Floyd? How could he tell that Floyd was black?

Thus, critical race theory has contradictions built into it. On the one hand, “whites” don’t exist because they are a creation of nefarious elites who want to oppress blacks. (Who are these elites? Presumably they don’t include the overwhelming majority of the American institutions that are patronizing Black Lives Matter.) On the other hand, there has to be a way to identify whites. If groups can simply say they are not white, as MENA (Americans of Middle Eastern and African Descent) groups are trying to do, they can claim they are part of the oppressed class even when they are privileged.

Conservatives have different problems. They are trying to uphold a non-racial “American” identity and dismiss white identity as tribalism. At the same time, they also think that ethnic identities, particularly Jewish, are valid. However, why is Jewish, gay, or even “American” identity not mere “tribalism?” Why is race alone illegitimate? Furthermore, can we seriously argue that most people think Mark Krikorian is “Armenian” rather than “white?” Partly because of government-sponsored campaigns for assimilation during the late 19th century and during World War I, the ethnic boundaries between Irish, Italian, Polish, and other white ethnicities have melded into a larger “white” cultural identity.

More importantly, contra Ignatiev, the Founders clearly understood “whiteness.” They reserved American citizenship for “free white persons” in the United States Naturalization Law of March 26, 1790. The very first United States Congress passed this bill a year and a half before the Bill of Rights.

“Historically white Americans have sharply distinguished themselves from Indians, blacks, Asians, Asians, and Mexicans, and excluded them from the American community,” wrote Samuel Huntington in Who Are We? He further says that though blacks were 20 percent of the American population at the founding, they were not viewed by Americans as members of their community — not “constituent members of our society” in Attorney General Edmund Randolph’s words. Jefferson thought whites and blacks couldn’t live under the same government. “Jefferson, James Madison, Henry Clay, John Randolph, Abraham Lincoln, and other leading political figures supported the efforts of the American Colonization Society to promote emigration of free blacks to Africa.” In the 1857 Dred Scott case, Chief Justice Roger Taney bluntly said that blacks were not part of the “people of the United States.”

In contrast, supposedly “non-white” Italians, Irish, and other non-Anglo groups can be found in important positions throughout early American history. Italian-American Confederate General William Taliaferro is still honored (for now) at his alma mater, the College of William & Mary. Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard was also part Italian and Roman Catholic. Obviously, some Irish Catholics did not see their primary loyalty to the mostly Protestant United States. The infamous San Patricios defected to the enemy during the Mexican war and were duly hanged, their last sight the American flag flying over the position they had failed to defend. However, their treason was the product of religious and personal grievances, not race. Irish (not just Protestant Scotch-Irish) fought in the American Revolution and on both sides of the American Civil War. No one thought they weren’t white.

Any trans-racial American identity must confront the stark reality that America was created and sustained by whites. The American story is largely a story about whites defeating and conquering non-whites. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who despite her last name clearly finds it more useful to claim non-white identity, protests that America has traditionally honored white men. However, who else should it honor? America’s historic enemies?

America would thrive if Miss Ocasio-Cortez, her “Squad,” and her non-white constituents left the county and Puerto Rico were no longer part of America. Without whites, America becomes nothing more than a name on a map.

Conservatives must know this if they read what the Founders and most American heroes said about race until very recently. Perhaps they really are ignorant. Or do they just pretend Martin Luther King Jr. was a patriot and a conservative and read Dinesh D’Souza books that blame “Democrats” for America’s problems. Liberals and non-whites know American history. They know the American flag represents the historic white American nation, which is why the far-left burns it in Portland.

Both Left and Right are ignoring the critical truth that race is the defining issue in American politics. It always has been, since the time the Jamestown colonists met Powhatan, to the Civil War, and now America’s ongoing deconstruction. American whites are a people with shared interests, culture, and heritage. It is distinct from that of non-whites. More than that, we are part of a larger Western Civilization that transcends civic nationalism. I have more in common with a white Frenchman, German, Hungarian, or Italian than I do with supposed conservative leaders such as Nikki Haley.

Our foes see this. The controlled “conservative” opposition refuses to see this. “Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair,” in George Washington’s words. Eventually, even the most deluded whites will be forced to accept an identity. They will have to choose between self-hatred and self-assertion. We need to prepare the way for those who choose the latter and join us in seizing control of our destiny, which is to champion Western Civilization on this continent.

  1. ‘Black’ or ‘black’ is a helluva lot less retarded than ‘African-American.’ Teresa “Now shove it” Heinz Kerry is technically an African-American, having been born in Portugese East Africa.

  4. Where Richard Spencer is wrong is where he thinks that white nationalism can encompass all Europeans from Portugal to the edges of the central Asian deserts, the problem is many people would disagree with that, i would love to see more white solidarity but i just cannot see it happening, i worked in a bar next to a football stadium in England and the manager was Albanian sometimes when the team were losing they would give her grief and say insulting things about her being a foreigner, telling her to go back home even though she basically looked European, she just had facial features and an accent that was slightly foreign but otherwise just as white as any Brit, anyway she quit because she could not take it anymore and that is the problem with white people, they cannot think “we are one race, we all originate in the same part of western Asia” but they instead think along lines of nationality, i.e “i’m German, our people are so much more productive than the Poles” or “I’m Scottish, our people are so much nicer than the English”

Ignaviev’s silliness, like Karl Marx, stems from trying to impose a static explanation to a dynamic situation.

Irish, Italian, Hungarian, and all the other immigrants arrived at a European America. The nation was founded by European-Derived Caucasians (“Whites”) and intended to stay that way. It was actually harder for some of them since most had come from European nations with rich cultures already, and had to adjust to American peculiarities.

The old word for Americans of newer stock than the Founders was “affiliate” and it meant a Greek was just as American as an Anglo-Saxon of old stock once he got with the program. A hell of a lot of immigrants could not, and went back to their homes. The others were quite a success: The best model I can recall from recent history was Judge John Sirica holding court on the Watergate plumbers during the Nixon years. Sirica, clearly Italian but very American, was passing judgement on many old stock Americans and nobody saw a problem.

Had the left stuck to Assimilationism with the visible minorities, would the same have occurred down the road?

Seems like the worked hard to prevent that. Why?

  6. Always amusing to see the paper Amerikans talking about good ol’ YT here in Kwa-Bananaland even as they cheer the ongoing damnatio memorae of the “posterity” mentioned in the dead-letter called the constitution along with its creators. Even more amusing are the shiftless shape-shifter grifters like Ben ‘The Littlest Chickenhawk’ Shapiro – a (((fellow white guy))) in one setting, then a (((fellow person of color))) in another. Spencer is wrong when he tries to impose his notion on the rest of the world, but he could be right here Murika – especially as more of the pale ones come to see that target etched their chest by the machine. Problem is that many of these hapless targets are rather like the unfortunate deer Hal in Gary Larson’s Farside cartoon – where his fellow deer states “bummer of a birthmark, Hal” – they would never see it on their own.

Many Thanks! (Danke vielmals! or Большое спасибо! if you prefer). YT has quite a few languages in the relatively small continent of Europe, even some odd ones like these: Nagyon köszönöm! (Hungarian), Didelis ačiū! (Lithuanian), Mila esker! (Basque), Diolch yn fawr! (Welsh) and even Დიდი მადლობა! (Georgian). This is where Spencer’s notion rather comes apart at the seams.

  8. But who is White? Consider the Moore domination of southern Europe for a while… are Portuguese white? Italians, Spanish, Greeks? The English have visited genocide on the Boere, the Germans and every White nation around them. Even the Yanks claim suffering under the Crown. Are the English White, or just white? Now you can safely express your opinion merely by ‘forgetting’ to capitalise or not.
Let those who have understanding reach out and communicate freely, without fear, but also without hatred. It is not really White anainst Black or Yellow or Pink, it is the Greys against all of us, and the sooner everyone reflects honestly upon the roots, the veritable (zionist) origins of their racist paradigms, the sooner we can stand together against the Grey enemy. The raceless, sexless, gormless, spineless Grey people they are breeding by poisoning the womb with Roundup, fluoride, nicotinoids, carbides, artificial food… THERE is our fight, the corruption of humanity into a sickly Grey mass that hate humans, that come up with nonsense like “war is a function of toxic masculinity” when they know full well the wars are started by their own Grey childraping satanic scumdaddies, some with mammaries, like Margaret, Hellary, Angela.
The average Ethiopian has more pride in his culture than most, and he does not care for Black or black, he has a written history many thousands of years old, and he knows he is Human. After centuries of trying, the Greys are still trying to subjugate Ethiopia, but they always get their asses kicked.
I love the scenes in “Black Hawk Down” where the Yanks realise how many machetes there are in Africa! The Greys turning grey with fear. I do pity the Americans their role as connonfodder for the Greys, but in the end, they do individually agree to use ammo made of radioactive scrap metal… and you don’t get much Greyer than that.
Also, I am looking for an alternative to Zionist, but most people do not know who the Bolshevists are, and Satanic Paedophile Scum Network is just too long! I like “Greys”. Surely that is ADL-proof?

Kendi. I say that the Atlantic, edited by Jeffrey Goldberg, can go jump in the lake. The Washington Post and the New York Times, always full of anti-white propaganda these days. So they can go jump, too. White people need to stop thinking about black people entirely, except insofar as necessary to protect themselves. We should be aiming high, to fulfill our own desires and potential. Instead we are continuously entreated or coerced into discussions about “equality.” Resist the propaganda. Resist the madness. 17. Gregory Hood: “They reserved American citizenship for “free white persons” in the United States Naturalization Law of March 26, 1790.”

Correct, but misleading. That law was only for those who obtained citizenship through the process of naturalization. There were at least other ways to obtain it. The most common way, which applied to the vast majority of US citizens, was to have been a citizen of one of the various original thirteen states, and in five of those thirteen states free negroes were already state citizens at the time of the Constitution’s adoption.

Gregory Hood: “In the 1857 Dred Scott case, Chief Justice Roger Taney bluntly said that blacks were not part of the “people of the United States.”

True, but in the dissent, Justice Curtis wrote:

That Constitution was ordained and established by the people of the United States, through the action, in each State, or those persons who were qualified by its laws to act thereon, in behalf of themselves and all other citizens of that State. In some of the States, as we have seen, colored persons were among those qualified by law to act on this subject. These colored persons were not only included in the body of ‘the people of the United States,’ by whom the Constitution was ordained and established, but in at least five of the States they had the power to act, and doubtless did act, by their suffrages, upon the question of its adoption. It would be strange, if we were to find in that instrument anything which deprived of their citizenship any part of the people of the United States who were among those by whom it was established.

The problem is, ‘divide and rule’ works. It works extremely well and none of us, or most of us, have to live within that reality. I can’t deal with whoever is pulling the strings, can’t even see them, but I can see the guy with the dark skin in front of me, robbing, raping and murdering and just causing basic mayhem, in numbers 5X their percent of the population. The problem of violent crime has to be taken care of, and after that, if we’re allowed to live decent, peaceful lives, who cares about the string pullers, they can stay inside their mansions and enjoy whatever vices entertain them.

As for “living in a milieu where your highest ambition is getting rich”, who cares if that’s what someone makes their ambition? Maybe you want to be the best guitarist, or mason, or swordsman, that’s your choice. If Mike Bloomberg or Jeffrey Bezos get their kicks chasing gold, that’s for them to decide.

Civil violence isn’t necessarily a function of violence, extreme poverty maybe, but in the US the poorest of our population is usually overweight, has cable TV and a smart phone, as well as access to a freer education. And I have to disagree with you, I think that poor will always be with us, some folks just can’t, or won’t, work. Some drink too much, are lazy, take illicit drugs or gamble away whatever they have. Just the way it is.

The social construction of “Whiteness” began with the European colonization of the Americas. The Spanish colonization of Nuevo Espana differs from the English colonization of the New World in that the native indios outnumbered the Spanish male settlers who constituted the White population of Nuevo Espana. To remedy this disparity, the Spanish authorities encouraged mass miscegenation which produced mixed-race people called mestizos. Over time, the Spanish instituted a colonial casta system which placed white Europeans born in Spain — peninsulares — at the top of a social hierarchy based on European ancestry and origin. Below the peninsulares were whites born in the Americas — criollos — followed by mixed-race people of Spanish and native ancestry — mestizos — as well as mixed-race people of Spanish and African ancestry — mulattos — below which lie the pure-blooded native indios and African slaves.

In the English colonies of the New World, European immigrants rarely interbred with African slaves thereby creating a dual race society of Whites vs Blacks at the outset. As the USA became independent of the British Empire, Anglo-Americans came to define their “Whiteness” against Blacks. Wave after wave of European immigrants who arrived in the USA and became “Americans” lost their ethnic identity to become “White” which they defined against Blacks.

In other words, “Whiteness” in Latin America is defined as European while “Whiteness” in the USA is defined against Blacks. In Latin America, for an indio native to become “White” implies becoming Spanish by language, culture, religion and ethnicity, i.e., the more European the “Whiter” one gets. In the USA, for European immigrants, one only needs to be against Blacks to become “White” because that’s how the WASPs define their “Whiteness” as against Blacks. Without Blacks, WASPs would have to define their “Whiteness” against Jews, Catholics, Italians, Irish, Asians, Latinos, Arabs, Muslims, Eastern Europeans, etc. That actually happened during the 1920s when the US Immigration Act of 1924 was passed to restrict immigration from Southern and Eastern Europe.

The more interesting question is what to do with “latino”. In Spanish it’s spelled with a small “l”. In the USA we tend to replace it with non-Spanish words like “Hispanic” or “Latinx” capitalized, but I don’t like those inventions. On the other hand I don’t want to disrespect that culture I like and am close to, by making it the only non-capitalized one. So perhaps I’ll go with “Latino” / “Latina” in English.
