Fair enough. And it’s true as far as it goes. But it doesn’t go far enough. You’ve given a spot on description of a section of the poulation as workers. But we also need to look at them in two other ways – as citizens and, of course, as individuals.

Because when we look at a population as large as the US (the third most populated country in the world) from the perspectives of worker, citizen, and individual, that’s when the randomness of human behavior comes into play and has an impact on both social management and social cohesion. And now we’re back to that something very important, but often overlooked. The impact all of this has on our social institutions and the very country that subsumes them.

The strength of governments in general, and the US in particular, is that they’re very good at gathering and processing information. And that was before the 1960’s when, for all its many problems, the government was relatively competent at social management.

The explanation for that relative competence could be found in another social institution, the university. But that competency has steadily declined since then. The reasons are many and everyone knows them.

The reponse to this growing culture crisis has been to place the entire country under the iron paw of a one-party rule, just as they did in the Soviet Union in the 20th century. But in both cases all that does is to place a rhetorical mask over the governments problems (and ours), but has in no way solved them. They’re not intended to. In fact, today the function of our social institutions is primarily one, not of problem-solving, but of problem-avoidance through rhetoric (White Supremacy, System Racism, etc.) and blame-shifting, the purpose of which is designed to conceal the Ponzi Scheme mental model, as it were, that infiltrated the country and rose to power during the 20th century, and now completely dominates it. Hence their need for blame-shiting, which is as necessary to them as it is counterproductive for everyone, including them.

The result is a devastating cultural incoherence and corresponding collapse of our social institutions – all of them.

It’s obvious that the university, government and the corporation are incapable of, and uninterested in, the cultural renewal necessary to, not just keep the country going, but to sustain their power.

Since the corporation has long since transcended the nation-state and now controls both the government and the university, and since it takes a far greater capital investment to revitalize a detiorating institution (let alone all three) than it does to start new ones designed to carry out the same functions, it would be better if all involved simply allowed these institutions as they exist to continue going their declining way and instead start new ones for the purpose of both preserving and inculcating the values of problem-solving and innovation needed to keep any country going in a civilizaiton more complex and unpredictable than ever before in human history.

Though none of this is likely to happen, an argument could be made that this is our only hope. It very well may be.
