Katie, bar the ever-lovin’ door. Compromise seems a forlorn hope in today’s strange version of America. Anger runs too deep. All that is left is to choose sides. We will then see whether the country sinks—continues sinking–into a Soviet future already largely upon us, or we see armed mobs battling in the streets.

Does this sound crazy? I don’t think so. The hostility is beyond anything I have seen in what has become a depressingly long life. In the media, on the web, anger seethes. Countries both civilized and not have plunged into bloodshed over as little. Think of Sunnis and Shias, Irish Protestants and Irish Catholics, Spanish and Basques.

In America, friends talk carefully to each other because they want to remain friends. Armed mobs take to the streets, blocking highways, shouting down speakers, burning cities, looting malls, playing the Knockout Game, organizing huge demonstrations. Things are far worse than in the upheavals of the Sixties. That rebellion, now receding from living memory, had a concrete and attainable goal: preventing young men from being forced to fight in a remote war in which they had no stake. When the draft ended, so did the riots.

Today’s hatreds are not about anything in particular. They are about everything in general, and thus irresolvable. The white insurrectionists seem to be adolescents of thirty-five, gripped by the strange immaturity that so many have noticed, angry at a world that they mistake for their parents. The blacks are furious because they somehow do not succeed in modern society. Their opposition, the Deplorables, feel drowned in everything they detest and fear. No peace is possible except by political coercion or conflict in the streets.

Half the country, led by New York, wants to control, and does control, everything of importance to the other half. Everything is decided remotely: what your children learn in school, what you can’t say to them because they might tell their teachers; who you have to hire, with whom you have to associate, what religious practices are permitted, whether you can have a Christmas tree in the town square or sing carols on the public streets, whether you can defend yourself and your family. New York versus the Deplorables. The city holds the high cards.

Bitter conflicts force the taking of sides, often with people one does not like. For example, I think Trump is a horse’s ass, dangerous, naive, uninformed, and a thorough-going damned fool. I detest the KKK (which barely exists, but never mind) and disagree with the Alt-Right on many things. Yet when I look at the other side, the armed bands, the censorship, thought control, indoctrination, the re-writing of history, their media arm, the identity politics, the push for control, control, control—I think,“I’ll take Trump—gack–and certainly the Deplorables.” And of course if violence comes, it’s one or the other. You can’t reason with a mob armed with lengths of rebar.

There is no principle in any of this. It is visceral. Animalic mobs of ill-bred semiliterates vandalize statues as eagerly as Muslims blowing up Buddhist monuments. This is war, of low intensity but still war. Culture war at first, but tending toward baseball-bat war. And the federal government sides with the vandals. So far the attacks not been answered, but a lot of the country is thinking, “Bring it on.” Conservatives are not creatures of the herd, and do not wave placards. But they too are armed.

The campaign is highly orchestrated. The professional touch shows. The anger existed before Trump, and will exist after him, but he is being used by those who want to bring the Establishment, the Deep State, back into the White House.

Some time ago a fellow named Shicklgruber, a genius at marketing and cynical as Machiavelli, explained the technique for herding the public: Have a few simple ideas and repeat them over and over and over and over and over and over. Intellectuals, he said, want to make propaganda by offering complex ideas, and changing them frequently. This is because intellectuals become bored with simple ideas and want variety. Wrong, said Schick. Keep it simple and repeat it and repeat it and repeat it.

The public is stupid, he said, few think, their ignorance is profound, even the intelligent are usually ignorant and emotional. They will believe anything if told often enough. It is like training dogs. (He proved extraordinarily successful at marketing, though his reputation was later somewhat tarnished, but that is another story.)

JewsarebloodsuckersJewsarebloodsuckersJewsarebloodsuckersTrumpisKGBTrumpisKGBTrumpisKGBWhiteisevilWhiteisevilWhiteisevilWhiteisevilRacismiseverywhereRacismiseverywhereRacismiseverywhereTrumkpisaNaziTrumkpisaNaziTrumkpisaNazi….

This this was wildly successful in a forgotten time and a remote place called Weimar.

Anyone who has worked in politics or journalism can see how the thing is being done. There was the invention of Russian hacking, Trump’s racism, his hostility to Jews, his admiration for “White Supremacists,” who do not exist, and all the rest. Saturation by the media is of course the backbone–that, and making sure that the public never hears anything contrary. For the same reason, you see the same commercial seven times during the Superbowl, TrumpisWhiteSupremacistTrumpisWhiteSupremacistTrumpisWhiteSupremacist.

This is vintage Schicklgruber, and bears out his contempt for the public. I confess to a certain admiration for a thing well done. When New York gets serious, it works wonders. Control the media, it seems, and you control America.

What New York wants of course is Pence in the White House, a cipher in the pockets of Wall Street, the arms racket, and big corporations. I do not say this in hopes that saying it will have any effect. Writing columns seldom affects anything. Those who know what is going on already know, and the placard-wavers won’t read it.

Will New York impose a virulent political correctness–read “submission”–on the whole country? My guess is that it will. But conceivably not. It badly misread the anger in the country that elected Trump. Perhaps it again makes the same miscalculation. We will find out when they impeach Trump.

As always, America’s racial catastrophe intrudes. Blacks demand–they always demand–removal of Confederate statues. Most can’t spell “Confederacy,” don’t know the dates of the Civil War, can’t name the three branches of government, have never read a book, but they demand. And demand. And demand. “Whah mah free stuff?” There is no solution, and nobody believes there is, but race is a battering ram for attacking the Deplorables.

Clearly the people at the top, in the editorial suites in Manhattan, at Goldman Sachs, at Lockheed-Martin, know what they are doing. They want Trump out so they can continue looting. From their point of view, the placard-carriers and ball-bat wielders are, merely useful idiots. It is an odd and amusing alliance. The useful idiots, Leftists all, apparently do not know that they are carrying water for the arms industry and international finance.

The country, methinks, approaches a decision point. Aux armes, citoyens. Let the games begin.

You get it wrong. The author condemned the “Big Lie” strategy in the strongest of terms. Here is the relevant passage from Mein Kampf:

“But it remained for the Jews, with their unqualified capacity for falsehood, and their fighting comrades, the Marxists, to impute responsibility for the downfall precisely to the man who alone had shown a superhuman will and energy in his effort to prevent the catastrophe which he had foreseen and to save the nation from that hour of complete overthrow and shame. By placing responsibility for the loss of the world war on the shoulders of Ludendorff they took away the weapon of moral right from the only adversary dangerous enough to be likely to succeed in bringing the betrayers of the Fatherland to Justice. All this was inspired by the principle–which is quite true within itself–that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.”

So the purport of this Mein Kampf passage was referring to a specific “big lie” which was being used by the Jewish press -trying to place the blame for the German defeat on General Ludendorff- and that the “broad masses” could be fooled by such a “big lie” because they were used to telling fibs in everyday life, but not to resorting to outrageous falsehoods or mendacious calamities, which were (and continue to be) the specialty of the lugenpresse, still dominated by the usual suspects. Hitler was NOT- and never was – defending the use of the “big lie.” This is sheer deflection by the tribal spinmeisters.

  5. Thee is little doubt that someday, perhaps in the very near future all the conflict Fred writes about will come to a head. It will not be pretty and America the Beautiful as it once was known by old folks like me will never be the same. Martial law will have to be imposed and no one knows what that can lead to except curtailment of what liberties we have left.

  6. if you want to wager the most likely time for trust in government to collapse and social chaos to really get going look to the near future.

the 6-8 months give or take into the 2018 elections when a huge number of democrats will be up for election. to the democrats they must hold on and grab some seats…if they lose more ground they become irrelevant.

the ny media will be in full pulizter mode spewing out the most absurd bullshit from the usual suspects to help plow the ground.

watch the dow and gold for the validity of this thesis. if trust collapses, social peace turns to widespread violence then gold and the dow will rapidly move higher as scared money leaves government bonds.

but expect a very sharp selloff first to set the table.

The problem is that our New York elites know how to control society far better than the ancient Romans or the modern Nazis and Soviets. They especially know what would work in controlling people’s lives and what won’t.
At the turn of the century, the federal government under Woodrow Wilson wanted to institute a massive hike in taxes in order to expand their power and wealth. What was the best way to do that? Not by sending tax collectors to people’s homes. That would just piss them off. Instead, dock the tax from people’s paychecks. All you have to do is to enforce the law on the businesses that employ people. That way, even if they don’t file their returns, the government will still have its money.

The reason for this is that our public schools will teach our youth only to think in certain ways that are deeply at odds with what we consider traditional morality and maturity. The best example is our new attitude towards bullying and fighting. I have written about this in a former blog.

A hundred years ago, if you were an adolescent boy who was being bullied, you had two options: (1) You tried to avoid the bully (which was much more doable then) or (2) you fought back. Note that a boy who refused to fight back would be called a coward. Furthermore, a boy who tattled to his parents about being bullied would be called a “Mama’s boy”. This was definitely the case in the Great Brain books.

Today, a boy who fights back against a bully would be sent to a psychiatrist and put on medication(possibly for the rest of his adolescent years). He also can’t avoid bullies because he has to go to the same school building with them for 9 months per year. A hundred years ago, children only went to school for 5 months per year. There was also no day care or summer camps back then, where even more bullying takes place. The only viable option is for a boy to tattle to the teacher. This is why our children are becoming wimps and tattle tales. This is also why our children are becoming dumber: We don’t allow them to take any intelligent solution to their problems.

And all of them have one thing in common: they ain’t doing so well. Young men revolt and riot when they do not have a reasonable expectation of success in life by following the rules. If young men in general believed that if they buckled down and worked for The Man they could reasonably expect a decent job, a home and family, see their kids launched and not be poor ans sick in their old age, then they’d buckle down and work for The Man.

Which prompts the question: if almost everyone ain’t doing so great, who is? If almost everyone is losing, then whoever is winning must be winning big.

    1. No one likes small print. It’s what 14-year old gamers use for their ranking ladder displays. It turns information to unintelligible garbage. It is not an issue of visual acuity, it is an issue of information density. You don’t need BIG font; you just need a font-to-open space ratio that allows information to be rapidly acquired with easy focus, easy acquisition, easy locating.

    2. Color scheme. Black on white works every time. Highlighting for topic classification should just be noticeable, not glaring, not leaping to foreground and wiping out information content.

    3. Black background. Never. Absolutely never. The human eye does NOT like a black background. Never. Never, never, never.

The trouble with history is that it fades. The people who lived through Weimar are all gone along with their story.

A few academics retain the awareness but they write for tiny audiences, and also have to watch what they say, e.g. Bernd Widdig,” Culture and Inflation in Weimar Germany (Weimar and Now: German Cultural Criticism)” University of California Press . https://www.amazon.com/Culture-Inflation-Weimar-Germany-Now/dp/0520222903/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1503811999&sr=1-1&keywords=culture+inflation+weimar

He describes the “Hellish Carnival” of Germany in the early 1920’s – a chaotic witches cauldron of gambling, hoarding, gluttony, hunger, riots, psychosis, prostitution and drugs overwhelming the German middle class.

And it’s especially interesting because of its social slant. He looks at the covers of the satirical magazine Simplicissimus through the period (available on http://www.simplicissimus.com) and Fritz Lang’s excellent 1922 film “Dr Mabuse: The Gambler” (recommended but 4 hours (!) long ). https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Mabuse-The-Gambler/dp/B000FS9FLW/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_txt?ie=UTF8

The ‘holocaust’ storyline is one of the most easily debunked narratives ever contrived. That is why those who question it are arrested and persecuted. That is why violent, racist, & privileged Jewish supremacists demand censorship. What sort of truth is it that denies free speech and the freedom to seek the truth? Truth needs no protection from scrutiny.

  51. utu says:
    @Mulegino1

Exactly. He explains why it works and condemns it not condones it. It is interesting however that the Big Lie story succeeded attributing its invention to Hitler and it stuck and Fred Reed and the rest of obrazovanshchina ate it up. One could make a point however, and it has been made, that Nazism was the emulation of Judaism starting with obsessions about racial purity and ending with supremacism. (Umberto Eco wrote an essay about that I ready many years ago in some art journal that now I can’t locate.)

Feliks Koneczny’s criticized Nazism for being anti-Latin civilization because it emulated elements of Jewish civilization. He wrote about it during WWII in occupied Poland

Feliks Koneczny realizes that Nazism is the strongest form of anti-Semitism, yet he suggests that it is, in a sense, a copy of Jewish civilization. [The scientifically-minded reader may think of matter and antimatter. They are similar, yet opposites.] This is in the sense that Nazism copies the Chosen People and Chosen Race concept. (p. 362, 365). In addition, both systems rely on monolatry. The monolatry in Judaism has already been discussed. As for Nazism, the Germans have a revived tribal war god in Wotan, or in a form of Germanized Christianity (e. g, DEUTSCHE GOTT). (pp. 363-364).

As there were no prisoners there is was just symbolic.
However, the king was beheaded, and a non aristocrat, Napoleon created the nation state that France still is.
But the elites of the times, the aristocracy, were shocked.
Just after Louis Napoleon failed in his attack on German soil in 1870 the European elites, the aristocracy, lost power forever.
In theory Bismarck was controlled by the German Kaiser, in reality it was the other way round.
But indeed, Bismarck was a small aristocrat.

” Today’s hatreds are not about anything in particular. They are about everything in general, and thus irresolvable. ”
In my opinion today’s hatreds result from the disappearence of democracy, money rules us.

The revolution that maybe is going to happen now is not against aristocracy, nor against politicians, but against their bosses, big banks and big corporation, the aristocracy of today.
As in the case of the French revolution, it may take the better part of a century to complete this revolution.

To control a nation, one must have control over the finances, like the FED and the Treasury Dept. And the MSM, which gleefully does the nauseous propaganda. Hollywood is also helpful in the psyops department, always showing one group of people as being some kind of savior to humanity, when that group actually detests what they call GOYIM, a slang word that roughly translates to cattle.

And have the Congress serving at your beck and call, always ready to give a certain rouge state endless amounts of money and weapons, while telling its people to “PO, we don’t have enough money to repair the broken infrastructure,” while faithfully waging wars against the existential enemies of a far-away SLC.

You might recognize that state just described, especially if you live in the USSA.

“Bitter conflicts force the taking of sides, often with people one does not like. You can’t reason with a mob armed with lengths of rebar.”

Now this is the ugly and very sad reality. As Fred highlights here, the Left features many billionaires and multimillionaires who fund even the most violent revolutions against decent Middle Americans. That Left is primed to assault until the nation bows to even the most egregious Leftism – things that evenb the Left of 2000 would have laughed off as nuts and never possible with Leftist backing.

    It is Orwellian.

Fred sees that this horror funded and stirred by the rich Left means you must take a side. Fred will take that of the basket of Deplorables, even though that means he might have to stand next to one of the dwindling few KKK members.

Stand next to a few – truly very few – KKK guys , or next to Marxists and Anarchists and radical Moslems funded by Soros and the Moslem Brotherhood and the abortion industry and the gay world.

It ought to be a no-brainer for any person who is none of the above. But that ‘Schicklgruber’ thing is real, and media has been brainwashing the population since media began. The result is that there today are hundreds of thousands, perhaps a few million, people who are Deplorables but have been so filled with self-hate that they would choose to kiss the lips of proud pedophiles while holding hands with Black Lives Matter gay leaders rather than be denounced as a racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-Semite.

And that group is not restricted to the poorly educated. Rod Dreher of The American Conservative is a prime example. Dreher, knowingly in the company of gay rights atheists, would oversee the burning of every Confederate flag and the smashing of every Confederate monument before he would link arms with even the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

This topic looks fascinating. Thank you for including the book as well. However, I do not believe that the National Socialist platform was hard core “Nordicist” or that the National Socialists necessarily looked down on the Mediterranean types, and certainly Hitler did not himself. As a matter of fact, the only military unit attached to the Wehrmacht to have its own decoration was the Spanish Division Azul!

True, there were certain elements within the National Socialist movement who were, of course, obsessed with Germanic blood and “Wotanism” (Heinrich Himmler comes to mind), but this played – to the best of my knowledge – virtually no part in the real workings of the Third Reich.

Did you notice you can zoom in? Yes, the typeface and font could be much sharper and bolder, but when done right, black pops inside red. On AnalogMan’s graphic, the black on red text is fuzzy, but legible when zoomed in. That black on red text just needs to be replaced with a bolder, sharper typeface. All the text should pop.

    Very well.

It’s a chart with TEXT on it, dumbass. The intelligence, the meaning, the information is in TEXT. Text must be perceived with the eye and converted to meaning by the brain. The human eye is evolved into an organ that sees gestalts, that merges visual stimuli into recognizable, identifiable patterns and color maps that are interpreted contextually by visual integration neural networks within the brain.

Over the millions of years that visual processes evolved, nature provided typical, distinct, and consistent COLOR signals in various combinations that the brain learned to recognize and identify quickly, virtually reflexively. That’s why humans find certain color combinations pleasing, or find them “coordinated”, or “complementary”, and so forth.

When text is presented to the brain in jarring, discordant, dissociative, UNNATURAL color patterns and combinations, the brain cannot make those habitual, automatic, instantaneous decisions relevant to color, pattern and contrast. Character formation — the letters themselves — must be extracted, perceived, and analytically evaluated to “see” the letters that must be put together to make a “word” to which meaning is attached. There is no assistance from “hunter” recognition, or innately recognizable environmental color combinations that add context and simplify the extraction of meaning.

    Got it?

Hitler picked up his antisemitism in Vienna during the reign of Emperor Franz Josef. It was a divide and rule strategy that propped up a weakening government. Antisemitism was encouraged. Perhaps my rhetoric was a bit intemperate. Forgive me. I get all hot under the collar when I realize that my nation was dragooned into a European war it had no business involving itself in and that this was, by and large, due to the machinations of the international Zionists and interested parties in international finance. Since we know that the latter group is composed of those of 100 percent of Aryan provenance- perhaps Amish or Kurdish – there is no question of international Jewish intrigue there, now is there?

Mr. Wilson’s decision to take the U.S. into the war was one of the most catastrophic decisions in world history, and it merits condemnation on a daily basis. The war itself was a ghastly crime, and throwing the American cannon fodder into the meat grinder merely compounded the criminality of the thing.

This is probably a little bit true, but mostly it goes back to 1789, Jewish subversion of mostly Protestants that accomplishes Protestant idulgence of whacko Jewish race-equality books, etc., and White Altruism gone South, like Fred, and the need to keep one’s job in the complex and ensnaring web of Commerce…especially international commerce, where there must be no discouraging words about race…gotta sell one’s shit to Everyman, market share, etc…and, and, every one of us is on the auction block, not like a slave, but close to it. I luv Everybody….Rainbows, Diversity, and Lip Service at least or out you go.

Those who have found out that lip-service does not count for much..like our working classes, are now flipping the bird to the international communalists and this includes to Fred too.

Racial groups and interests are a real phenomenon. Who owns the media tends to create propaganda favorable to their own interests. It is conflicting group interests and it is an alien group controlling an important institution of disseminating information in other people’s countries.

Free markets never means economic activity in an anarchic free for all. Fraud, antitrust, contract, unfair compensation, fraudulent conveyance, workmen’s comp, blue sky, and closely-held corporations laws, among others, have been added over the years to fine tune the depradations of rapacious, greed-besotted HVAC repairmen, bakers, taxidermists, eBay handicraft moguls, car salesmen, sandwich shop owners, plastic surgeons, and Big Milk operatives roaming the land looking for widows, orphans and metrosexual twinks to prey on.

It is not a failing of “free markets” that Clinton and the Republicans voted to repeal the Glass-Seagull law. Or that the politicians fail to stop high-frequency trading, enforce antitrust laws, or fire bomb the homes of Federal Reserve shareholders.

What should be done about scum like Soros and the ultra rich, the 0.1%, is a matter for earnest consideration, hopefully without the mindless input from Debbie, Elizabeth, Bernie, Tim, Jerry and their elk. Ditto, the grossly undemocratic influence of the super rich, corporations, unions, public employee unions, and foreigners in our elections. We could have a serious discussion about that but we won’t. Vital issues of statuary juju and the feelings and tender sensibilities of the dickless and perverted presently have the highest priority.

The Weimar government seems to have been ineffectual, though that’s hardly an informed judgment. The Hellish Carnival you mention doesn’t seem that different from what is commonplace now in the West. Not quite Hieronymus Bosch but well in the way. There’s got to be a Raum Emmanuel/John Podesta Spirit Cooking Nerve Center that’s dreams up some new absurdity, some new assault on common sense and common decency each day to vex the rubes. Some of those insider “dinner parties” I’ve seen photos of are just diseased.

Mr. Trump and every other affected executive agency are proving to have a “deer in the headlights” reaction respecting AntiFa. It’s so clearly, unequivocally, undeniably criminal in every aspect that you have to believe Trump and those officials are either utterly clueless or enthusiastically complicit. Only Trump is clueless IMO but the others are definitely cheerleaders. Francis’s anarcho-tyranny at work. Bottom line is, no one’s minding the store for the yeomanry, who if remotely like me, are have list all patience. Not for nothing is Tucker vaulting into top ratings.

But back to Germany. The NDSAP did not spring out of thin air. The Bolsheviks were justifiably seen as violent, aggressive revolutionaries and the culture had collapsed. Like now. It didn’t spring out of some innately dark recess of the German soul though Merkel and the real lefty politicians there now have a viciousness that tempts me to think otherwise.

For image documents posted to the web, be sure to use the appropriate image format:

JPGs are perfectly fine for photographs, but any graphic with inserted text — even black on red — must use the PNG image format to ensure that the text will be razor sharp, and not mushy from a lossy format like JPG:

I’m not recommending black text on a red background, but for labels on a chart, it is perfectly fine. You cannot create a color chart in B&W, so if you want to use color coding with text on your graphic, use the PNG image format.

If almost everyone is losing, then whoever is winning must be winning big.

This is the single biggest, most critical, most essential question which can ever be asked – and MUST be answered straight from the empirically-observable facts, in order for anyone to begin to understand the picture, the story – and the true root cause of the problems we face. Who – PRECISELY – is winning big, whilst all others are losing ?

Or, to condense it into my own favourite aphorism of the moment and the century: “Money does not disappear into thin air. It simply changes hands.”

Not until we are forced to admit openly, honestly and boldly EXACTLY whose hands are and have always been overflowing, while the rest of the world approaches starvation and ruin, will we be able to reverse the direction, repair the damage – and first exterminate the vermin who have destroyed the foundations.

These PC whites have become accustomed to their ‘virtue’ as the mental servants of PC. They believe white virtue requires whites to be chained to the cult of ‘white guilt’.

White Patriots who want freedom and independence from such mental slavery are hunted down like fugitives. PC says whites must remain on the Mental Plantation of White Guilt.

Don’t try to run! Just like white slave masters used subservient blacks and dogs to hunt down fugitive blacks, we have the GLOB using antifa and other scum to hunt down and attack other whites who want freedom and independence from the Culture of Globalist supremacism and hatred.

It’s hard to quantify the evils the German people suffered during the Weimar occupation.

they had been betrayed by Perfidious Albion and their useful idiot Wilson, shown here reflecting on what he had done with his “I am a most unhappy man” quote

I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world – no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.

    ~Traitor Wilson

Germany was (literally) starved into being dominated by the world’s most cruel and iniquitous tribe. Their children languishing in brothels, their war vets begging on the streets, their traditions and heritage mocked and reviled from the theaters and institutions of Germany as only the malice of the Chosen are capable of.

As in Gaza, the German people of Germany were reminded of who won and who “lost” that war every moment of every day. They were humiliated with relish by their very ‘own’ institutions, until they had had enough. Hitler didn’t come out of nowhere, he was very much a product of his times. And it’s because they’re doing the exact same thing here in the West that they were doing in Weimar, that we hear all the screeching about ‘Trump is Hitler’, Putin is Hitler, the Alt-right are Nazis!!!

It’s because it’s deja vu all over again. They’re not just humiliating Germans and Germany now, they’re targeting the entire Western civilization for moral abasement, racial humiliation and ultimate destruction.

if only Woodrow Wilson could have ‘lived forever’, to see what this mediocre little man’s vanity had wrought on the world’s beleaguered people.

Haven’t been here in a while.

Always glad to see the Reed still stands despite the winds. While I think that the general analysis here is spot on I have some optimism. This optimism is informed by the fact that thanks to social media, general access to vehicles, and a fantastic road-system, we’re seeing an amplification of small numbers of the loudest and least informed.

When people organize in groups they often shout things that are far more polarized than what they actually think. So the very people shouting inanities at each other on the streets may have more nuanced views at home.

As for these large numbers of Antifa, Alt-right, and other radicals we have to remember that these large numbers aren’t quite so large in a country of 323.1 million people. When compared to the numbers of people not burning things down and throwing tantrums on the streets they are simply a highly vocal minority.

I am aware of the argument that highly vocal and active minorities often change the course of history. While this does certainly occur, the circumstances, and the quality of the people involved necessary for it to occur are certainly debatable.

In a country of 323.1 million people, many if not most of whom have access to some form of internet; there is a way of combating highly vocal wing-nuttery.

This is because the whole social media and internet phenomenon has also brought forward a coalition of decent sorts of people. These folks like Tim Pool and others are more likely to agree with Fred’s cynical take then my cheery one but I think this is the result of staring too long into the abyss.

I think that with the resources available in this country and our technology we might avert disasters like the world wars and the great depression.

I think that a hackneyed phrase is right twice a day. Therefore I’d suggest that the best course of action is to: “Keep calm and carry on.”

It does seem that things have gotten more shallow in terms of coverage and attention to detail. This seems to prevade more than just the video sphere though. I believe common core and seeing bottom lines as ends rather than means has contributed greatly to this decline.

That being said I don’t think it fair to disparage an entire medium as being inherently shallow. Not only is it unfair but it is unrealistic.

If a person takes a novel and adapts it to film, or writes an article and makes it into a video, or is someone who is good at having erudite conversations and starts a talk show; that all has the same value as a good book. That is all provided that people put in the work.

Something which we should encourage rather than retreating to elitism.

I don’t quite understand why you’d share a video and then share such a dim view on it.

Also the comment itself was a bit off-base because the platforms I listed allow for all sorts of content including written content. So far they don’t implement any of the Orwellian nonsense of Facebook, Google, and YouTube.

As for evil winning. I don’t know that that’s really how the world works though I appreciate your cynism. I am a Reed fan after all.

Maybe you’re just fed up with the cancer that is so glaringly obvious in the social media sphere. To which I drink a glass of bleach in sympathy to bury the pain of looking at such eldritch horror.

I actually wrote a little prequel article on the subject on my website/blog: https://fractaljournal.com/2017/09/02/op-ed-social-media-privacy-ethics-and-alternatives/

Hopefully I find the time to write something a bit less meandering.

    Cheers.

  143. That being said I don’t think it fair to disparage an entire medium as being inherently shallow. Not only is it unfair but it is unrealistic.

Video is inherently sparse, in terms of information-density. Big bandwidth necessary to motion, color and sound — means low information to bandwidth ratio. Simple fact. Shannon and all that.

I did not say it doesn’t have its uses; I said I do not prefer it. Nor did I say I had a “dim view” of the video I linked.

That depends on how you interpret information. Facial expressions, tone of voice, etc don’t have to be described using text. So in that sense I think it could be argued that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’

Bandwidth is less of an issue than code bloat. It’s not a hardware problem at this stage but a software one. Bryan Lunduke discusses this in a video called ‘The World Wide Web Sucks’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tefielQeHZY

As for ‘dim view.’ Clumsy phrasing on my part. I meant to say that you take a dim view on video as a format. How?

There is such a thing as implicit meaning. If you say that videos are about mewling kittens etc then I assume you aren’t a fan. To label a medium as such is disparaging.

That being said I understand where you are coming from. I don’t know why my email didn’t update me on this comment. Glad I checked back manually.
