Content creators on YouTube who follow all of the site’s rules may still face censorship by the platform, under new plans announced by Google.
According to a post on YouTube’s official blog, videos will now be subject to the rule of the mob. If enough users flag a video as “hate speech” or “violent extremism,” YouTube may impose restrictions on the content even if it breaks none of the platform’s rules.
We’ll soon be applying tougher treatment to videos that aren’t illegal but have been flagged by users as potential violations of our policies on hate speech and violent extremism. If we find that these videos don’t violate our policies but contain controversial religious or supremacist content, they will be placed in a limited state. The videos will remain on YouTube behind an interstitial, won’t be recommended, won’t be monetized, and won’t have key features including comments, suggested videos, and likes.
YouTube has also rolled out a “trusted flagger” program, in which 15 “expert NGOs and institutions” to help them identify hate speech and extremism on their platform.
Among these organizations are the No Hate Speech Movement, a left-wing project pushed by the Council of Europe, as well as the Anti-Defamation League, an organization whose president has been accused of “manufacturing outrage” by the World Jewish Congress.
YouTube is also planning to artificially alter its search results so that searches for “sensitive” topics on YouTube no longer return the most popular videos, but a “playlist of curated YouTube videos that directly confront and debunk violent extremist messages.”
The platform also plans to artificially promote videos created via its “Creators for Change” program, which, in YouTube’s words, features creators who are “using their voices and creativity to speak out against hate speech, xenophobia and extremism.”
We’ve started rolling out features from Jigsaw’s Redirect Method to YouTube. When people search for sensitive keywords on YouTube, they will be redirected towards a playlist of curated YouTube videos that directly confront and debunk violent extremist messages. We also continue to amplify YouTube voices speaking out against hate and radicalization through our YouTube Creators for Change program. Just last week, the U.K. chapter of Creators for Change, Internet Citizens, hosted a two-day workshop for 13-18 year-olds to help them find a positive sense of belonging online and learn skills on how to participate safely and responsibly on the internet.

I saw the original article on Breitbart, but just checked the youtube blog after seeing the post here, and…. the youtube posting is slightly, if only slightly, less bad than I feared. The overt focus of the youtube post is to “fight terror content online”. Probably most unz.com readers aren’t flirting with the idea of joining ISIS, or of doing an Islamist “lone wolf” terror attack, but some people are. And youtube is one venue by which people get encouraged to act on such inclinations. I am pretty certain that Larry Page and Sergei Brin are not in any way secret Islamists. (Brin’s father, as I recall, was an actual refugee from the USSR.) I suspect that they are probably the LEAST SJWish of all the MAJOR tech moguls (although that is a low bar…) The blog posting is bad, very bad. But what is bad is that while addressing a real issue, whoever wrote the post is trying to strike at political enemies who come from a rather different angle. Jordan Peterson is not ISIS. He is more like the anti-ISIS. That is mostly good.
Youtube’s CEO, Susan Wojcicki, has a sister, Anne Wojcicki, who was married to Google’s co-founder, Sergey Brin, until 2015. Of note, Brin’s former wife is the co-founder and current CEO of 23andMe.
So the son of Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki has a father who is the co-founder and current CEO of Google’s parent company, a mother who is the co-founder and current CEO of 23andMe, and an aunt who is the CEO of YouTube. Does anyone else think that this is a rather unusual concentration of power in one family?
Don’t like what YouTube is doing? Use Vimeo. Don’t like what Vimeo is doing? Use something else.

Actually, I am neither a fool nor a Jew of any sort. I am a thoughtful and intelligent man who recognizes that the world is actually complex. Get a grip. If you can read, and think, you’ll see that my comment shows a full awareness of the danger of Islamic extremism being used as a tool to censor content of rather different sorts.

Remember, Google (Alphabet!) owns YouTube, and Google’s cofounders worked out of Susan Wojcicki’s garage early on.
This sounds like a great opportunity for Ron Unz to start a YouTube competitor. He might have to curate it a bit to keep hosting costs down, but that might help make it profitable.
It’s only a matter of time before an alternative to (((Youtube))) emerges — the barriers to entry are not high.

Let’s just be honest about it and say out loud that the only reason why intelligence services even have “deradicalisation programs” etc for Muslims is because they know the natives will get restless if there are too many terror attacks.
Here in the UK we have had two “hate crime” murders of Muslims in the past couple of years. Both were by Salafists who believed the men they murdered were “infidels”.
One of the cases was the murder of Ahmadi Muslim Asad Shah, a shopkeeper in Glasgow who was brutally stabbed and stamped to death outside his shop just hours after wishing his Christian customers a “Happy Easter”.
The UK’s largest Muslim umbrella group, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) released a statement condemning attacks on Ahmadi Muslims, but also announcing that, in its view, Ahmadis are kuffar (non-believers) who the Quran says are destined for “doom and degradation” after death.
Appearing in court, where he was sentences to 27 years for the murder, Tanveer Ahmed was joined by an army of fans, who shouted Islamic slogans and argued the killer had done nothing wrong.
Are any of the “anti-hate” campaigns doing anything about this stuff? Is anyone speaking out about it, are the authorities taking this stuff seriously? Of course not, as what happens among Muslims is of no importance to the powers that be.
Yet any white opposition to mass migration is a sure sign that Another Shoah™ is on the way, which is why the establishment insists that people who complain about our replacement and displacement are the universe’s number one terror threat.
Take the media’s response to backlash over Scotland’s National Portrait Gallery releasing a music video calling white people “inbred spawn soon to die out.”
The video features a rapper from the group “Young Fathers” staring at portraits of former Scottish Kings like James III and distinguished architects like Sir William Bruce and calling them “dead, random white dudes” and proclaiming “they are a gravestone that a dog pisses against.”

I didn’t realize that Google (Alphabet!) owned YouTube, but I did know about the founders working out of Susan’s garage. It’s all so incestuous. I mean, good for them, but it seems like way too much power concentrated in one family. And way too much access to personal information about fellow Americans and others.

It is a loss – you can’t just “delete” history and expect to make the world a better place. Without understanding of what really happened in the era of the World Wars, the same thing will happen again and again. Trying to pretend that Germans of the time were just “evil” people who “hated Jews” obscures the fact that, like with most racism, economic reasons were at the heart of the whole conflict. The greatest plague of our so-called “information age” is those who want only information that confirms the orthodoxy of the current moment to be seen, which is anti-history, anti-thought and, ultimately, anti-human. Without history, we lack context, which is exactly what modern propagandists would like.
