All but one of the major content platforms have banned the American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, as the companies raced to act in the wake of Apple’s decision to remove five podcasts by Jones and his Infowars website.

Facebook unpublished four pages run by Jones for “repeated violations of community standards”, the company said on Monday. YouTube terminated Jones’s account over him repeatedly appearing in videos despite being subject to a 90-day ban from the website, and Spotify removed the entirety of one of Jones’s podcasts for “hate content”.

Facebook’s removal of the pages – the Alex Jones Channel Page, the Alex Jones Page, the Infowars Page and the Infowars Nightly News Page – comes after the social network imposed a 30-day ban on Jones personally “for his role in posting violating content to these pages”.

Following that suspension, a Facebook spokesperson said: “More content from the same pages has been reported to us – upon review, we have taken it down for glorifying violence, which violates our graphic violence policy, and using dehumanising language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies.”

The spokesperson noted that, despite the focus on Jones’s role in spreading conspiracy theories around events such as the 9/11 attacks and Sandy Hook school shooting, “none of the violations that spurred today’s removals were related to this”.

A few hours after Facebook announced its ban, YouTube also terminated Jones’s account on its platform. The company issued a statement that didn’t refer to Jones by name, saying only that: “All users agree to comply with our terms of service and community guidelines when they sign up to use YouTube. When users violate these policies repeatedly, like our policies against hate speech and harassment, or our terms prohibiting circumvention of our enforcement measures, we terminate their accounts.”

But all those corporate giants banning Infowars within a few hours couldn’t be a conspiracy, right?!

  3. F*ck them. I don’t use ’em and neither should you or Jones.

Right. Why is this not evidence that they are operating as a cartel, in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act?
I suppose it is not a trivial matter, since my understanding is that the Act focuses overtly on financial matters, but I suppose it is not impossible to demonstrate that one goal of the collusion is to punish badthinkers financially.

  5. As shown in this article, the American media has a long track record of misreporting key news items:

Fake news is definitely not a new phenomenon in the United States.

The election of Donald Trump scarred the bat shit out of the ruling class. Not because of Trump himself, but for the fact that they lost the monopoly on the narrative. Since his election win the major players are in full damage control mode in getting that narrative monopoly back, and back for good. They want it all locked up. They are literally circling the wagons, and asserting what ever control they can come up with, and using absurdities such as “violating terms of service” which means everything, and nothing at all when in the end it means – “we’ll decide what it means” “we decide what hate speech is” “we decide what terrorism is” “we decide the moral high ground we walk on”. Corporate deciders are now in control – so much for your stupid elections. So much for your stupid rights. So much for your stupid democratic values – it’s hate speech that matters most these days.

I’m afraid we do live in an occupied country – it’s not as open and blatant as say being a Palestinian on the Occupied West Bank, but we (I’m Midwestern WASP) do not control or have much access to the mainstream media, Hollywood (even Disney studios) or the elite colleges and universities – even once solid Conservative Christian denominations like the US Catholic Church, the Southern Baptists and the Church of Latter Day Saints are increasingly hostile to our very existence here in North America.

It’s reality that many racial, ethnic and sexual groups that simply hate White Gentile/WASP America dominate the mainstream media and every Conservative inc Media.

It’s a Jewish ethnic Mafia and also groups of bitter feminists, homosexuals, BlackLiesMatter now bitter Harvard Law Asian women and various “Good Whites” who earn a good living by virtual signaling that they are so much better than the poor and working class, rural Whites who voted for Trump.

The difference between CNN when it was run by a Liberal, non Christian Southerner Ted Turner and when it got taken over by Time Warner Inc’s Gerald Levin and now Jeff Zucker – the difference is night and day something similar from the change of Russia under the last Czar and Russia under the terror of Lenin, Trotsky, Yagoda and Beria!

    These people hate us.

I tried to explain this to my nice, wholesome Latter Day Saint Mormon Church a few years back when Harvey Weinstien and Quentin Tarantino were doing a mass opening of the hate Southern White people snuff film “D’Jango Unchained” and opening the sick film on ….

    Christmas Day!

I met (alone) with the managers of the Chicago theater opening this Hate Film (really as bad as the Eternal Jew) on Christmas and expressed my opposition.

It seems simple to me – we should demand access to social media and oppose the defamation of our people the same as the ADL or NAACP do for their people.

Most of the fake news on CNN, MSNBC is along the lines of hard core Leftism, cultural marxism or simply “WE HATE WHITE PEOPLE” but there is also the constant lies of Neo Conservative, Zionist war mongers demanding new US attacks on Iran, secular Arabs in Syria and restarting the Cold War with Russia.

I noticed the fake news, CNN Zionist media mafia spreading terrible lies that secular Syrians/the Russians were….

    GASSING LITTLE CHILDREN IN SYRIA!

How many innocent children were gassed to death?

    6 Million?!

    Total lies.

We all most now do our best to survive this terrible time and yeah, we’re under occupation.

My take is that APPLEFACEBOOKGOOGLE are bending under renewed pressure from the EU to ban all access to populist/anti-immigrant political websites … or face unrealistically large fines and other legal sanctions.

The problem is that, if the social media want a presence in the EU, they must abide by EU censorship rules. Same goes for data security and the protection of personal data.

The cheapest solution for social media is to globalize the most stringent requirements governing “hate speech”, data security, and the protection of personal data even if the former does violate the import of the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.

BTW: There is nothing resembling “free speech” in the UE or Canada. The social and political positions taken by the current governments are official positions. Anyone who opposes them is, by definition, guilty of something on the continuum of “hate speech” to terrorism and will be sanctioned. Same for the social media that hosted them.

    Welcome to “1984”.

Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft have signed up to new EU rules on taking down illegal hate speech as lawmakers and internet giants try to cope with violent racist abuse and technically savvy terrorists online.

The “code of conduct” will require companies to “review the majority” of flagged hate speech within 24 hours — and remove it if necessary — and even develop “counter-narratives” to combat the growing problem.

Online hate speech has created a policy minefield for businesses and government. The speed at which the issue has developed has left a regulatory vacuum, which the industry has attempted to fill with its own solutions.

Although many of the code’s policies were already in place, the rules mark the first attempt to codify how internet giants deal with hate speech across the EU.

Twitter, for instance, has so far taken down 125,000 terror-related accounts in less than a year, according to Europol. The sheer scale has presented businesses and policymakers with a conundrum, according to Rob Wainwright, the director of Europol. “We have never seen that use of technology before,” he said.

The move comes after EU ministers demanded that the bloc work with IT companies to “counter terrorist propaganda” during an emergency meeting in the aftermath of the Brussels terror attacks.

This push to codify the handling of illegal hate speech online has been led in Brussels by Vera Jourova, the commissioner responsible for justice.

“The recent terror attacks have reminded us of the urgent need to address illegal online hate speech,” said Ms. Jourova. “Social media is, unfortunately, one of the tools that terrorist groups use to radicalize young people and to spread violence and hatred.”

The debate has been controversial. Two groups that had been involved in discussing the new code of conduct dropped out of the program in protest over the agreed rules after being excluded from final negotiations.

Joe McNamee, executive director at European Digital Rights, which defends human rights online, said the deal amounted to “persuading companies like Google and Facebook to sweep offenses under the carpet”.

Brussels has been trying to make companies such as Google — which runs YouTube, the world’s largest video sharing website — take more responsibility for the content they host.

This move has focused mainly on legal issues such as copyright infringement and incitement to violence. Even so, it has triggered criticism from some lawmakers, who argue that giving internet companies the final say on what constitutes hate speech effectively privatizes one arm of law enforcement.

Internet companies have been forced to tread carefully between demands for more proactive surveillance of their platforms from governments and the wishes of their users, who are increasingly wary of any state interference.

Karen White, Twitter’s head of public policy for Europe, said: “We remain committed to letting the Tweets flow. However, there is a clear distinction between freedom of expression and conduct that incites violence and hate.”

  14. @TheJester

That is an interesting take that I have not seen. I can certainly buy that they might be using this as an excuse, and I can certainly buy that the people in charge of these corporations are fundamentally attuned to a globalist outlook.
One thing that I find odd is that, while Alex Jones says a lot of crazy stuff, and I certainly think some of it is factually quite wrong, and can justifiably offend reasonable people, I cannot even think of what is supposed to be “hate”, at least as that is normally used by the globalist left. I mean I have literally no idea what they are even talking about. I have no idea what official grievance group he is supposed to be hating. Do they even know?

Yes. Many Americans throughout history, like most most people, are comfortable with the lies told to them by those in authority and hold in contempt the individual who challenges those in power.

This personality flaw underlies all of tyranny.

The rebel is the one who faces punishment, not the loyal follower.

This is about Sandy Hook truthers.

Alex Jones is one of the core sources of the wackos who harass them. The big guys put up with a lot but harming the Sandy Hook parents really deserves the hammer.

Good one. Tweet it to Coulter and Brimelow, post it on JF Gariepy. Maybe it’ll catch on!

  18. The FAGS are about to screw themselves. By filtering what they present, they are no longer just a digital platform, but publishers. Regulation here I come!
