It is my own view that the world population is very near its peak. Already the trends are showing that extreme poverty has reduced from 80% of the world population in the 60s to the current 10%. If China continues to develop roads, ports, rail and other infrastructure in Africa, it will benefit not just Africans but the rest of the world by reducing migration pressure, not just from decreased population growth, but also retention of the would be migrants due to better economic prospects.

Europeans for one, will see less pressure from African economic migrants risking death to reach their shores. All this can also be extrapolated to migrants from Latin America and the NATO shattered Middle East.

Overall, these are very astute observations. Unfortunately, I spent some time in unionized manufacturing. Over 90% male. The amount of gossip, insecurity, and whining was absolutely epic. In spite of the fact that the pay and benefits were good, and management was relatively easy-going.

I know the workforce at that place was the exception rather than the rule as far as white male workers, but it was something to behold. I think it was a combination of the union entitlement mentality, low educational levels, and other dynamics I just can't put my finger on. Though the men were invariably more skilled/productive than the women. They also tried hiring some blacks (male and female) and that was a disaster.

At the time, increases in agricultural productivity, the advent of political stability after a century of war, and a general increase in standard of living drove a step function increase in population levels.

China went from being the most populous nation, to be even more so. The economy simply wasn't going to keep up to the point where it could absorb the overshoot of new workers as fast as they were being produced. Large numbers of unemployed young people is a recipe for the kind of instability that starts the revolutionary cycle anew. The "rulers" had the foresight to see the endgame, and didn't like what they saw.

You may be interested to know that the 1-child policy applied only to the Han people. Uighurs, the Miao, Tibetans and the other minority groups were welcome to continue having as many children as they could generate.

Significant amounts of food were leaving Ireland during the Famine years. In 1847 alone, the worst year of the Famine, almost 4,000 vessels carried food from Ireland to the major ports of Britain, that is, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool and London. Over half of these ships went to Liverpool, the main port both for emigration and for cargo. Shipping returns for all of these vessels and full details of their cargoes have survived, although they have been little used (similar records for Ireland have not survived). Food was also exported to smaller ports such as Preston and Runcorn, although their records were not kept systematically. A search amongst the surviving port records throws new light on the question of food exports during the Famine. It also provides an insight into the nature of the Irish economy in the 1840s.

I'm like you - pretty far from "normal" (I'm not in the least heterosexual - never have been) but was put on a world where 97% of people (and almost all animals) are outwardly heterosexual, and outwardly live that way. Ironically, I'm old enough to know that the not "100% hetero" thing was not so much of a problem (about 15% of men have significant bi-sexual tendencies - hetero married or not, makes no difference) in the "olden days" (pre-hippie, pre-women's lib, pre-high porno TV days) men did what they wanted to do, and nobody with any sense outwardly wore their sexual preference on their shoulder like a Masonic ring or a cross on a chain. It simply was nobody's effing business except for that specific person time & (private) place. And socially, nobody was any worse for the wear. That's difficult for most people today to grasp in this now dopey, tell-all society, accept everybody at par, where even a retard must be described in some "genius" terms in the obits, and the "partnered" gay couple is more accepted in a stuffy suburban neighborhood than an unmarried (not otherwise specified) normal looking single male.

I sensed very early on that I liked boys more than girls. But far as I recall, I didn't act out anything different than the other boys (except for that one time, 1st grade, for some unknown reason (a sporadic hormone spike?) I kissed the boy sitting next to me - I don't know, I liked the kid, and far as I can recall, maybe he smelled good(?) or something. The reaction of that teacher to that impulsive incident taught me to abandon such impulsive behavior, which I promptly did - I was only 6 but I knew damned well what embarrassment was).

And despite my deeply planted homosexual tendency, I never bought into this gay lib shit - in fact, I realized somebody somewhere (some effeminate homo hippie I suppose) simply replaced the word "fairy" with "gay" as if that was supposed to somehow "normalize" guys like me. Heh. Did just the opposite! Past 30 years old, not (hetero) married, I faced discrimination in employment and way more questioning than ever! Lot of good that bowlshit did.

More impressive to me than anything, us kids were raised to "shift for ourselves." We had the talk - at about 12 years old...not sex ed, but instead, something to the effect of "you want to have a life at a certain level?" it's your responsibility we're leaving youze kids nothing. We all proceeded from there busted our asses as needed, and were no worse for the wear.
