When Vietnam sucessfully invaded Cambodia to dispose of the Khmer Rouge China attacked Vietnam from the north and was soundly beaten, I don’t think there was a single chinese soldier in what was then called Kampuchea except the guards and consuls attached to their diplomatic mission.

After the vietnamese victory and occupation the western powers allowed Pol Pot to wage a guerilla war from inside Thailand and also to retain Cambodia’s seat in the UN for more than a decade, this was because the Soviet Union supported Vietnam and was considered the main adversery in the cold war.

So whenever someone uses Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge as a the ultimate example of communist mass murdering maniacs they are of course right, and maybe they need to hear that they STILL had the support of not only China but also the US well into the 90s…it is called realpolitik and realpolitik mostly means murder.

Anglin often over-simplifies complicated issues and mostly this works well, my advice to him is that «quality over quantity» would be a smart rule for his publishing from this point forward.

If Trump had been killed last saturday and various groups had celebrated in the streets some enraged MAGA people shooting at those crowds could certainly have set off a lot of further violence that would spread far and wide.

Still I think you are right, not because of age and obesity but because the great majority of Trump supporters are law-abiding and live in suburban and rural areas, I can easily see them taking defensive action at some point like blocking off their own areas but not «burn the country down», not without a lot of escalation over time.

That bystanders saw the gunman several minutes before he started shooting and that they alerted security personell who then did nothing should by now be considered far more than claims.

Some of the statements from authorities after the event sounds insane to me, like the one about police having to wait for clearance or for the suspect to open fire before responding to the clear and present danger from that subject…and that there were no Secret Service on that particular roof «because it was too steep»…COME ON MAN.
