RSSHow hard did they have to look to find a black software engineer?
Morgan Freeman’s character in “The Bucket List.”
In a completely unrelated comment, my own observation is that fans at baseball games, major and minor league, are as a group the friendliest and best behaved fans of all the major sportsball fans.
I breed working german shepherds. The sexual dichotomy is drastic and parallels humans. It would seem that the closer the breed is to wolves (pointed ears, more solid colors, large), the larger the sexual differences
Exactly. You’d have to be nuts.
Really? 6 year olds are riding the subways by themselves in downtown Toronto now like they do all the time in Tokyo?Replies: @Abe, @AnotherDad, @Skeptic
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore actually score higher than homogeneous, low-immigration countries like South Korea, Russia, Japan and Poland.
Smith is a propagandist. I’ve read him enough to understand he knows he’s full of it. Mercifully he’s extremely bad at it which is why – if you take him seriously – he’s infuriating.
I haven’t seen any plausible explanation why citizenship conceded a priori. That’s a turbocharged amnesty which will immediately lose Texas followed by the rest of the country. So seems clear to me he’s folded. Miller to exit next?
It was the economic catastrophe right before election skewing things. Remember there was a brief moment where the lie that republicans wouldn’t bailout ‘homeowners’ had legs. Obama must’ve looked like a better bet if you were drowning, especially if you had ‘undocumented’ family and loans.
Original theory was not to dilute 3rd world into 1st but poor into rich. Due to cold war circumstances, that had to be couched in racial terms and now we’re stuck. Doubly so since in the interim we’ve accumulated a much higher % of both poor and 3rd world!
Indeed. I think the police/swat took hours to make entry even though they could hear gunfire inside. I’ve seen no criticism of this anywhere. Seems like dereliction of duty to me
Italians don’t act like Jews or Irish simply because being ‘victims’ isn’t imprinted. They really waz kingz! Or however you spell that. They don’t feel underdogs
There is something remarkable, almost unbelievable about Noah smith’s inability to notice obvious huge boulders right in front of him. He’s either very dim or worse. I just can’t figure him out.
Yemen is Yemen for many reasons. Surely the greatest reason is Yemenis.
One of those is correct though 🙂
It’s funny our President’s understanding of the limits of his power = 4 year old Steve. But nobody’s playing fair! I mean these judge rulings are truly spectacular. Evil Putin dreams of judges so fanatical about party wishes.
It’s the Coalition of the Fringes trying to recruit Italians, Irish and other white ‘ethnic’ gentiles away from the core and into the fringe.
I agree. That’s the motivation
If you see how much has been built around the middle east and Asia (not only china) over last 20 years, I think you’ll agree our failure to improve infrastructure isn’t because of runaway costs. And those extra costs, though real, aren’t mostly due to any extra due diligence on our part (sinking high-rise in SF tell me our designs still imperfect).
We seem to have simply lost our motivation. We’re perfectly capable of spending trillion$$ where we remain motivated like middle east no win adventures and bank rescues
So you don't think US costs being multiples higher than foreign locations (e.g. your ME example) has an impact?!Here is an article on US costs: https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2016-04-08/why-u-s-infrastructure-costs-so-muchThat page links an interesting blog on costs and construction: https://pedestrianobservations.wordpress.com/2016/01/31/why-costs-matter/
I think you’ll agree our failure to improve infrastructure isn’t because of runaway costs.
Interestingly of you Google “greatest American inventors” you get a different list. It differs in a way that may sow doubts in impressionable young minds. 🙂 Intentional?
Wow. I swear ill never badmouth border agents ever again! Pin a medal on them
In the back of my mind there’s a hope open borders types (smart ones anyway) know they’re full of it. But it’s a convenient bludgeoning tool etc etch
Then I see Schumer holding back tears, and calling a pause in immigration from some of the worst of middle east un-American.
I love that somehow Gambia features in the list of oh-so-sad African countries that we must pity and by implication are a source of virtuous migrants. Anyone familiar with Gambia? Some quick facts:
Size, roughly three times the size of Rhode Island
Population, 1.8 million.
I find it exceedingly hard to believe that Gambia is a source of any significant number of migrants. I fact, from a geopolitical standpoint, I think Gambia can be safely ignored.
Southern Italians are no dummies. But they’re definitely nepotistic/clannish/fractionalized and whatever other fancy term you like. That explains the mafia not any connection to IQ.
However, this is is my opinion and I like data. I’d appreciate any pointers to studies that show level of inbreeding required to result in low IQ?
Someone has to ‘fall’ for others to realize they’re being attacked. Consider him an involuntary hero
Razib,
Its interesting that the Java myths refer to an “Aji Saka” who cam from India and became king. The Sakas (Western Kshatrapas) ruled the trade routes in the Indian Ocean (at least Gujarat) in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, and the region is known to have been very prosperous due to Roman trade. Its quite possible that the Sakas – who of course are originally Scythian tribes from somewhere in Central Asia or Iran – were instrumental in spreading Indian cultural influence in South East Asia. Their genes would likely be mostly steppe though, not much of non-steppe ANI or ASI.
Another reference to Rakhigarhi ancient DNA studies in the news –
http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/haryana/democracy-has-roots-in-harappa/233774.html
‘“We are close to a breakthrough to reconstruct the lives of people of the Harappan civilisation. The excavation has failed to answer several questions related to these people. DNA samples are being analysed by South Korea’s Seoul National University College of Medicine, and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad. The similar investigation will be carried out at Howard University, Cambridge University andthe Copenhagen University in Denmark,” Shinde said, adding the results would be published in ‘Nature’ or ‘Science’ magazine.’
One thing you might miss by being a tourist in turkey: despite Ataturk best efforts, it is not a homogeneous country but culturally/ethnically diverse. They did cleanse the country of Christians of course, but tried and failed to turn all others to Turks. In this context, Erdogan’s understanding of his country’s natural status as Muslim, Ottoman even, is not weird.
What an (unintentionally) shitty thing to do. My eyes fell on your pic, then on ‘RIP’ and my heart sank. Guess I was primed by yesterday’s news?
Anyway, condolences. And please don’t do that again
I think one has to consider the definition of ‘scientist’ in USSR. They had diploma mills way before we knew the term. All these graphs (may) show are the sociology of the various tribes there, not their achievement potential. Maybe getting a science degree was the thing to do for a good factory job if your tribe was urban?
“In recent years, leading scholars have conclusively established that for a decade or two during the 1930s and 1940s, a small network of Communist spies quietly gained substantial control of our national government in Washington, DC, successfully diverting the actions of the United States to their own nefarious ends”
Certainly Alger Hiss, Harry Dexter White, and a few others were aiding the Soviet Union, but they scarcely controlled the government.
Could we have some sources?
Elie Wiesel has been accused of being an imposter. The Auschwitz camp records show a man named Wiesel born in 1928 who would now be about 86. Elie Wiesel claims to be that man (does he look 86?), but some people are not so certain. There is some evidence that the man known to the world as Elie Wiesel is someone who has stolen the identity of the Wiesel listed in the camp records. If these skeptics are right, this leaves open both the question of who the man known to the world as Elie Wiesel really is, and the question of what happened to the real Wiesel.
Quote:
“…expect the story to drop off…”
Wishing things to disappear is reserved domain for 5 years old; I think you already passed that mark.
Keep in mind, the law enforcement… aka – police detectives are just waking up.
Governor of VA is doing his own investigation.
No, the story will not drop off.
“Jackie” will join Tawana and Crystal Gail into the hall of infamy.
The story is just too juicy to be stopped by pc crowd.
It will go on.
I realize that isteve is mostly secular, but one wonders if the real future of china will not be determined by the fact that they aren’t Christian, don’t seem like they want to become Christian, and thus lack the high social trust and relative altruism thAt Christianity imparts? How much of western democracy and mixed economies are based upon this trust? My gut tells me that when china has to drive the bus, rather than just be a rambunctious passenger, they will find out quickly that they forgot to learn and master a couple of important lessons.
There is no way Amancio Ortega has made that much money in retail clothing.
Les Wexner has a net worth of only $4.5 billion and I can’t imagine Ortega with a net worth 10x as high.
You have to sell an obscenely large amount of clothing to end up with a $1 billion profit. Zillions of garments.
We will never reach the point in which this is an issue in 2032. Things are not in balance now and so something has to change. How fast? That is what you have to be really smart to know. But if something can't go on forever, it will stop.
Steve seems intent on casting shame on drug use as cheating. That makes sense as far as the athletics, but it is going to be harder to make that case as when they are used to help an older guy heal faster. I mean, most people would be against gaining an unfair advantage, but who is against something that helps a guy heal faster? Who loves and watches sports most but older guys who used to be athletes? The morals of this are going to start getting messy.
"I am from Argentina and at least 40% of the population is mestizo, although whiter looking than your average mexican, since it is not rare for them to have recent european admixture."
Have studied Argentina for a while and never heard that. It has always been described as specifically different from most Latin American countries precisely because the mixed ancestry is so low. I don't believe you are Argentinian. Perhaps you are Chilean? Peruvian? Paraguay?
What are you sources for your statistics?
Someone I know who moonlights as a social studies professor thought Che Guevara was mestizo. Inexcusable. He was entirely European (Basque, Spanish and Irish) and even described himself as the descendant of Irish rebels.
There weren't enugh Indians left in Argentina by the time large numbers of Euros arrived, to make 40% mestizo possible anyway.
Hmm, perhaps one reason this blog is somewhat trustable (in that I believe you won’t fake things) is you aren’t nice and have no pedigree :-).
PS: Just a joke, no offence intended.
At Mercer,
in Murray's defense, he would say that that iq, welfare, and bad morals are all the same thing
It would be much more helpful in separating fact from conspiracy theories if writers included links or at least citations when making grand assertions.
For example, I might well believe retailers have played an important role in boosting immigration, if the first comment writer could link to some position papers from the National Retail Federation (or equivalent) showing plans to lobby for liberal immigration.
Without that, though, I have no idea if it's fact or fantasy and, when reading comments on all blogs, tend to assume "fantasy" unless proven otherwise.
Lots of pre-Mughal Indian writing is also lost, mainly because of the highly perishable palm leaf used to write on. However quite a bit remains, because Brahmins developed a habit of memorizing stuff of course, but also Brahmin students were made to re-copy important manuscripts over-and-over, thus preserving the grammar of Panini and so on. To facilitate memorization and copying, Panini developed a highly condensed and cryptic style of writing – the sutra style – which was followed by practically everyone since.
Thanks very much. On Indian history I really enjoyed ” A History of Ancient and Early Medieval India (2008)” by Upinder Singh (Delhi Univ professor and Manmohan Singh’s daughter). This is more like a textbook, but full of primary references which were very informative to me.
Just added you after seeing this post :-). I doubt you’ll recognize my real name though. Curious why you dont have public posts?
The genetic data is indeed fascinating. I’m not up to date with all the datareasoning here, but can you clarify a few points?
1. Where do the dates of the ANI/ASI come from? Are they just hypothetical or is there some independent reason to assign the dates?
2. ASI is plausibly 10k BC because of the proximity to Andamanese tribes, right?
3. ANI is presumably farmer genes, but is this a guess or some independent evidence for this?
4. What is the evidence for ANI2? Why is this considered an overlay separate from ANI? Can this be correlated with Indo-Europeans (eg. show that it is not part of European farmer DNA, but a later migration in to Europe).
This is just for my own education. Thanks!
Do you think at some point, whether Obama wins or loses, we will get to see his “vault” birth certificate from Honolulu? Whether he is a US citizen or not, he has refused to release his actual birth certificate, either because he was born in Mombasa, Kenya, as some claim, or because his full name is “Barack Hussein Muhammed Obama” as others claim. This latter claim is NOT all that far-fetched. In many Muslim families, EVERY male is given the name “Muhammed” as one of his names, just as many Hispanic families used to give every girl “Maria” as one of several Christian names.
