For the record, you have the prey's respiratory cycle backwards in regard to application of pressure by the constricting snake. And the constrictor's behavior is not about saving energy. It functions to get the prey's residual respiratory volume down to a minimum in order to kill the prey faster. Constriction is potentially dangerous for the snake because while constricting it cannot defend against its own predators, so getting the job done quickly is adaptive.

A constricting snake like a boa or a python kills its prey by suffocation. It uses the momentum of its strike to throw coils around its victim's body. Then, it squeezes. Every time the prey exhales, the snake squeezes a little more tightly.

This is incorrect !. The snake senses when the victim EXHALES and then tightens its coils thus suffocating the prey.

I own non-fiction DVDs where scientists have elaborate blueprints and diagrams and artists' renderings of space stations (huge ones), lunar habitats, and Martian habitats, all of which they were certain would be in production within 10-20 years.
These videos are from the late 1970s-early 1980s. They had no idea their own country had no interest in colonizing space.
This wouldn't have fixed everything, but the downfall of the United States and Western Civilization does map side-by-side on a graph rather nicely with giving women the right to vote. That was a bad move.

I think the "canard" is spot-on, in the context of what actually happened in Germany. The potential held in a German-Russian alliance after 1920 was the greatest threat to the position of the people in charge of the British Empire since the War of the Spanish succession. I don't read it for stock advice, Mr. No. However, the financial articles (and ZH is about 50% political now) will drive home the point that what can't go on, won't go on. People don't believe that yet.

My contention is that all of the stupidity we see today, and documented here very well, is at a peak, because it will not continue once this terrible financial bill comes due. Peak Stupidity, some might call it.
