RSSI'm certain I've heard serious reporting on this (race- or ethnic-targeted biological weapons research in/by China, specifically), in conspiracy-theory-friendly outlets, going back to the 2000s. (In other words, rather more serious than the mere premise of a sci-fi story.) Though not anything too recently that I can readily recall.
I wonder if perhaps someone in the Inner Party has read Irwin Shaw’s 1967 short story The Mannichon Solution. [...] in the story, an industrial chemist accidentally discovers a substance that is instantly lethal to living creatures, but only yellow ones.
LOL. You try to assert that China develops biological weapons in general and weapons in specific that target particular ethnicities. But then cite an article whose evidence all points to the West as the one that’s doing all the abominable evil.
Really high-octane ROFL, LMAO.
But wait, you’re actually on point though to some degree, China IS killing people with bioweapons like Lyme disease. Here’s some evidence:

OOPS, sorry, I think I made a mistake here. THAT WAS ACTUALLY AMERICA.
. . .
Oh, by the way, the U.S./West used bioweapons on Korea during the Korean War. And in the early 70’s had spread African Swine Flu in Cuba.
Linh,
Don’t know if you read the comments often. However, here are a few points.
1)
From what I’ve researched before, the gender/sex ratio imbalance in China doesn’t actually exist. There is a University of Kansas study published in a Cambridge journal that demonstrates that there is no imbalance — at least not anything deviating from the Western or global average. What you’re sourcing from is an unreliable meme that’s been repeated over and over again in stories from the Western press/foundations/NGOs. This whole gender imbalance thing / female infanticide / demographic time-bomb has a lot of the same qualities as atrocity propaganda, and can be thrown in with it as being of the same vein. Traditional preference for male births doesn’t automatically lead to or necessitate female infanticide. Again, atrocity propaganda. Read the following linked articles to know what I mean.
As an aside, you, for one, should know better than to parrot whatever you read. Was 9-11 actually committed by twelve Islamists with box cutters? Did Epstein actually kill himself? Did the Japanese actually make a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor without the Americans knowing? Did the Vietnamese actually attack the Americans at the Gulf of Tonkin? Is the overthrown of Evo Morales not actually a Western coup? Is Venezuela really that bad under Maduro? Did 6 million really die during you-know-what?
This doesn’t mean one has to be skeptical of everything, but one should take a step back and be hesitant before repeating the messages and journalistic talking points that have reached the mind unfiltered.
I’ll have to pull up the actual U of Kansas research study again, but right now here are some articles that actually admit that the gender imbalance is overblown:
https://www.cnn.com/2016/12/01/asia/china-missing-girls/index.html
https://news.ku.edu/2016/11/22/study-finds-chinas-missing-girls-theory-likely-far-overblown
Here, this article from Inkstonenews, which eventually admits the gender imbalance might be overblown, repeats the myth, based off a World Economic Forum report that should not be taken at face value. This is Davos we’re talking about here. The likes of Gates, Soros, Buffett, etc. And backed and sponsored by large multinational corps. The report itself isn’t an actual study (that’s why it’s called a report), as it is based off reference sources, and the report’s methodology is unclear.
(The Davos report if you want to read it — http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GGGR_2018.pdf)
Another thing that’s NOT true that you might be interested in knowing as well, just to show with further evidence the amount of complete untruths or inaccuracies in journalism. A Scientific American article regarding the alleged poaching of rhinos for their horns:

2)
So…
Since millions of female fetuses were aborted, millions of Chinese men must now pay to get laid, in or out of China. With more cash to spend, Chinese sex tourists will become more ubiquitous.
Since the defeated and diffident must prey on the most vulnerable…
No, the first part above (aborted females, millions of extra men) is not true. Therefore, it’s unlikely there will be that many defeated and diffident men in China, and widespread sex tourism will be unlikely.
Plus, I thought China was doing well economically, and don’t most predictions trend China as doing well in the future? If gender imbalance is the case, wouldn’t mail-brides be more of a factor, as the Chinese like to have families?
3)
Plus, the male/female ratio in China is messed up … which was made even worse by the now abolished one-child policy.
Yes, exactly. So whatever gender imbalance you believe there to be will eventually be phased out in the decades to come.
4)
You know full well that the woman in the ad is a full-grown adult woman (though not an older adult) judging from the face and figure. Women in any sort of sex-related imagery in Asia all have a similar look. We’re talking about above-board stuff here. For example, all the above-board Jap porn have women with faces and figures that look like that. Put up a cover image of a Jap porn movie next to the image of the ad, and they’ll look similar. Plus, Asian women do tend to look younger.
This runs across Asia/East Asia in general too. Take your pick. From Japan, to SK, to China, to Vietnam, etc. Any sex-related imagery have adult women who have that look. This isn’t limited to Asia either. In the West, fresh, more youthful women are preferred too because men are biologically wired to seek out high-fertility women. This is not to mean it’s pedophilia.
Where’s the pedophilia in that picture? I don’t see it.
