From my new column in Taki's Magazine: Read the whole thing there.
  • @Anonymous
I'm not going to pontificate about the course, success or otherwise, or outcome of this war - this is something, quite frankly I know absolutely nothing about, and so I have a natural aversion to 'battle/military' pontification.

However, a few pontifical points are in order:

My position is this, and remains this, all Mr. Putin is doing is merely, rather belatedly, is shovelling up the malodorous piles of festering dung which the The Gorbachev dropped behind him wherever he went. A thankless task. Pity the poor zookeeper who has to muck out the chimp cages, or the cannonball sized and shaped elephant droppings.

As Macbeth put it 'Life is a tale told by an idiot. Full of Sound and Fury, but signifying nothing'.
A lot of bang, bang, weep, weep and horror, horror - especially by pompous western journalists, but, really and truthfully the present shit show is an irrelevance, at best, compared to the *real* dangers facing the west this present century. Chinese and Pacific rim hegemony, and the concurrent black/brown takeover of Europe and north America.

Another pontification: The Chinese, who, so it seems, are ruled by some profoundly and exceedingly wise men, must have learned from this shit show that America and the west *absolutely cannot be trusted* one iota - they can only be dealt with from a position of absolute and overwhelming strength. The push toward Chinese full spectrum dominance must not slack, not one iota. The Chinese *must* see from the Gorbachev era onwards how the west played the Russians for cunts. They would pull a Gorbachev on them, arm the Uighurs, stir up Hong Kong, recreate the Tai Ping Rebellion in a heartbeat if they could. • Franz Fanon was a complicated sort of chap. Like many in the French West Indies, he was a person of mixed race, although most outsiders would have seen him as “black” at once, as you can guess from the photograph.

During World War Two, he slipped away from Martinique, the Vichy-controlled island on which he lived, to join De Gaulle’s Free French and ended up with a medal or two at the end of hostilities.

In later life, at grave personal risk, he associated himself with the cause of Algerian independence and was a strong supporter of the Algerian side during the Algerian War of 1954 – 1962. He is commemorated in Algeria to this day.

“The Wretched of the Earth” and “Black Skin, White Masks”, his two **big books** are sadly dated now but still worth reading – or, at the very least, it is instructive to read what Wikipedia has to say about him.

And speaking of New York and racism. Check out the NYPD hate crime Twitter.

    https://twitter.com/NYPDHateCrimes

The immediate pattern will be seen of black people attacking Hasidic Jews and East Asians a lot. Not a lot of Haven Monahan types but there are a few whites. (Although near the top the NYPD have a post of a homeless white man tagging city hall with a swastika, don't worry though, they tracked the guy down and got him for his felony! They even went after some black teenagers for drawing some in wet cement.) Seems like quite a few of these people had very adverse health effects from these interactions. I wonder if the anxiety and fear of racist attacks from blacks could be construed as a microaggression that undermined people's mental and physical health? They even have general anti-white incidents, they can't hide reality.

Reporting on these incidents by the wider media would cause heads to explode in terms of either having to report the largest black perpetrators and or report on why the blacks hate the Hasids and Asians so much seeing them as competition and ethnic displacers themselves. (Seriously, at the rate the Hasidic population is expanding, it's going to become an increasing elephant in the room in terms of their anti-social interactions with others) And as Spielberg's new version of West Side Story determines, only whites can engage in gentrification or ethnic displacement.

These attacks are territory marking. They're meant to drive you away. This is very primal and I suspect if you asked them the attacks wouldn't really be able to give you a highly reasoned idea why they did it.

And forget about the class element of this ever being discussed, I'm not even sure the current crop of very serious cosmopolitan journalists could even begin to comprehend that part. After all, that's chiefly what 'healthcare racism' really amounts to; poverty. But to blueticks it's obviously a fact that poor whites must have much better health than wealthy blacks.

The only Jews reproducing enough to have a growing population are the ones with the beards and funny hats, people who mix only with one another; if demographic extrapolations can be trusted – and they are often misleading – the Hasidics will outnumber the secular Jews in Britain within a decade or so.

Is the rest of the country having a wave of “follow home robberies” or is this still just a Los Angeles Thing for the moment?

Seems like very few places have the same situation whereby very large numbers of people like the Roses from Schitt's Creek who could be very lucrative targets are congregating and parking their cars on certain streets and places to be spotted. LA's geography too makes follow-homes a lot easier and finally, lots of mansions with lots of space between them make screams and commotion harder to hear. Ask OJ.

NYC has the same density of rich people but they tend to live in apartments and do they congregate in the same numbers and park as obnoxiously obviously expensive cars on the street as often?

Does anywhere else in the US have the same density of rich people?

Why are we having new types of crime in an era when the technology for making sure crime doesn’t pay has never been better?

During the big smash and grabs by professional gangs in NYC they raided a Rolex outlet. Every Rolex has a serial number and so the ones stolen were now tainted meaning you couldn't sell through a reputable fence because it would be no time before somebody checked the serial number on a watch if they were a serious buyer. Did the guys who did it not care that they'd lose 90% of the resale value and risking getting caught if they sold them on? Did they do it just to own their own? Were they just opportunistic and thus not thinking too deeply. Probably a little of all 3.

    SolontoCroesus is in presumably-innocent error.

Germans are obsessively-literate people and S-C can find scores of eyewitness accounts of surviving the Allied bombing of German cities translated into English.

There is an entire genre of survival-of-bombing eyewitness-participant accounts in Japanese, but few have been translated into Western languages. A French eye-witness wrote “I saw Tokyo Burning;” it can be found in an English translation after a short search online.

Two points are worth mentioning: the Americans dropped millions of leaflets in Japanese telling Japanese civilians to flee cities if they could. Sixty-six cities were reduced to ash and rubble, two of them by atomic bombing. It is instructive to walk through central Osaka and observe the few buildings which survived the bombing and the subsequent rebuilding of the city. Some still bear the wounds of near-misses.

Mary Seacole was forgotten for years, usually a mere footnote in eye-witness participant accounts of the Crimean War.

Her posthumous "rediscovery" and acclaim in recent years in an amazing phenomenon in itself and certainly worth a book or two.

The bare truth is that Mary Seacole was a Jamaican woman of mixed race who had no high opinion of Jamaican blacks; a woman of boundless energy, she was primarily a businesswoman who was skilled in Caribbean folk medicine rather than the rapidly-developing scientific medicine of Victorian Britain.

It has been claimed that Florence Nightingale adopted an Olympian attitude towards Mary Seacole, allegedly remarking that Mary's modest convalescent "hotel" in the Crimea permitted over-indulgence in alcoholic refreshment and inappropriate liaisons between Queen Victoria's soldiery and the scantily-trained female staff in the employ of Mary Seacole.

The whole point of the plaques is that they're a tourist attraction that draws in money for the local economy. Creating a plaques that says something like, "Lubilicious X scratched his butt here," isn't going to draw in big money. Most 'famous blacks' are made 'famous' only by really straining at it, and most blacks haven't even heard of their role models. Most whites haven't heard of 'famous blacks' either, so it will be a dud. For example, these black people have plaques in Britain: Elizabeth Welch, Laurie Cunningham, Sir Learie Constantine, Dr. Harold Moody. Well, I've never heard of a single one of them.

And that's the problem here. In the past, white people who attainted fame in Britain did it the hard way. They kept doing things over the course of their career that, once added up, made them a public name. They became talked about, so they attained fame from being talked about. The talk created the fame. They impressed other people in some way or another so that the crowd started talking about these people spontaneously. This is the way someone like Charlotte Bronte, who didn't even have her name on her first novel when it came out, became famous. People took note, became interested, and just started talking about Bronte their own.

But blacks? They're trying to make blacks 'talked about' by force. Nobody cares about the little doings of nobodies. These blacks are all publicity department. No one talks about them because nobody cares enough about their so-called achievements to bother.

There's got to be better black art than the crap in the photos in the New York Times article (keep scrolling down, there are photos all through the article).

Maybe this exhibition had a sort of ghetto smell to it and no talented artists wanted to participate. And the good ones would be in New York, not Los Angeles, anyway.

Are we hearing about the "art pricing gap" yet? We must do something about black art not being bought for high-enough prices! Rich people, get to work on that. Buy some of this crap at high prices and then sent it out on "permanent loan" to the Victorville Museum of Modern Art and take a tax deduction.

I can see some fun developing in the art world where buyers overpay for black art for affirmative action reasons, and then they donate the art, and the recipient institutions call in appraisers, who at first say it's worth nothing, and the appraisers are #cancelled on Twitter and lose all business because of that, so the art appraisal industry undergoes a sudden wokening and comes up with equitable holistic standards for appraisal (value = actual value x 100 if black artist), resulting in huge valuations for black art despite no actual market for the crap. Ultimately there will be a giant bubble. What will the IRS do? Pop it, or go along?

The issue of making a fuss about any artist’s ethnicity and/or age can be debated endlessly:

Those interested can seek out what the late Robert Hughes had to say, quite furiously, about the ludicrously over-hyped Haitian-Dominican artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

There actually are excellent artists of color but in the art world, whether we like the fact or not, showmen and show-women (the quite fearless Tracy Emin, for example) are often those fussed over and richly rewarded.

Is a great deal of *modern art* a gigantic confidence trick? The late charlatan-artist Manzoni canned his own excrement [Merde DÁrtiste] and publicly-funded galleries all over the world clamored to buy it.

I mean, this guy was rubbing their faces in it and they couldn't get enough of it. Paid him to do it, in fact. There are few to no grounds for a woman to work away from her family or husband. At most, a father can permit his daughter to work under a vetted man to keep her from wandering off to get fucked.

A man letting his woman work where he can't keep her in his sight is bad enough. Letting her work with/under other men who can't be trusted is just asking to get cucked (especially when they're either working under obviously higher rank men like in the office or have a job like in fitness where they show off their goods around other men).

It was traditional around the world for wives to work in their husbands' own trade under his supervision or in tasks where they could be supervised by relatives/trusted males (farms for one). It was common enough in the cities for a man to sell his unmarried daughters’ labor, under the assumption that the man he was lending her to would keep her from wandering off to get fucked. I don't think so. Most of the East European nations were very happy when they joined the EU, because a lot of gypsies traveled westward. It is truly a blessing.

There are whole neighbourhoods in Germany , France, Sweden and the UK, populated by Hungarian, Bulgarian, Serbian and Romanian gypsies. I remember years ago, in my grandmothers' town (I was born in Eastern Europe), there was a person who signed up most of the young gupsies to a western social benefits system and bussed them there for a small fee. Most of them left. My father decided to renovate our country house then, as the town felt much safer. Now, years later, almost all the gypsies are gone. It may not be the same in every town and village, but the trend is clear - there are simply more benefits and things to steal in the West for them.

I know about many similar cases in the East - this is one of the real reasons people there support the European Union, but no journo will touch this story in an English language media. Now most of the crooks, prostitutes and petty thugs are in Western Europe. Isn't globalisation great?

One day he was following too closely behind, so I ostentatiously stepped aside to watch him pass. He muttered something in whatever. I said fuck you, come get it. He got mad and repeated what I said in English.

I told a group Polish gypsies (very rare) at a shawarma place later on - they told me even they avoid Bulgarian gypsies.

Serbian gypsies seemed partly assimilated, partly wild, though eclipsed by the Muslim immigrants hanging out by Zeleni Venac stealing phones and whatever.

    , @Steven80
    @Billy Corr

There are lots of gypsies in the Bakans for the following reasons:

    - The gypsies were sold as slaves in Vallachia and Moldova (now Romania)

    - When the Russian empire conquered the Wild fileds (now Ukraine) they wanted to resettle the land with agricultural population, and forbade gypsies from settling there

    - German states were having "gypsy hunts" now and then to get rid of them

Naturally, many clans of this tribe settled in the Ottoman empire, which was quite tolerant and didn't care much as they were not considered as dangerous for the state, and many of them were willing to convert to islam easily. Unfortunately, they are not a minority that can be assimilated. In my opinion, the genetics differences are too significant.

I think this is the real reason most Balkan countries plus Cypruss still need visas for the US - Americans are quite aware that part of the gypsy tribe will swiftly move to the US to abuse the social security system.

Yes, ladies and gentleman of the jury - the man gave someone ( someone who identified as female I believe) a backrub. Can you think of a more heinous crime (other than uttering the N-word)?

What is most interesting to me is the way that his colleagues (and perhaps Mills himself) learned of his unpersoning.

This reminded me of an anecdote I heard many years ago when I took a course on Russian history taught by a White Russian emigre whose family had fled after the Revolution. He was a very entertaining lecturer with intimate knowledge of Russian history and the course was always oversubscribed. During his lecture on Stalin's purges, he recounted that if you were a Kremlin official who was about to be arrested, one of the things that would happen is that your phone line would go dead so that you could not warn your friends or appeal to them for protection (the only people in Russia who would have had phones in their apartments in those days were other Party officials). One day at the height of the purges, a Party official picked up the phone in his Moscow apartment and the line was dead. He knew what this meant - he was as good as dead, but first they would torture him and get him to confess to imaginary crimes and implicate his friends. Well that was not going to happen to him - he pulled out his pistol and shot himself in the head. Later that day, the telephone repairman found his body.

The massive import taxes made China prosper according to author Jung Chang. Empress Dowager Cixi by Jung Chang

Chang wrote the unflattering bio of Mao Mao The Unknown Story

There’s lots of interesting information in the book. For instance; late 18th century China imported yams potatoes and corn. All are high nutrition easy to grow foods. Unlike rice low nutrition lengthy growing and harvesting process. But this of course led to an unsustainable population explosion. Which may have contributed to the Taiping rebellion civil war in S China.

  • AWAKE MY SOUL! THE BIBLE FOR LITTLE – AND NOT-SO LITTLE – FOLK

Look! Let us get this straight: the entire Universe and everything in it was created by an omnipotent and omniscient (and occasionally kindly and forgiving) Deity who took, and perhaps still takes, an obsessive interest in the lives of clever hominids one small planet circling a minor star.

Having created humans and put them in an agreeable garden on the planet, the Deity, rather puzzlingly, ensured that the garden contained an off-limits fruit tree and a reptile inclined to give misleading and mischievous advice. The female human fell for what the talking reptile told her, ate an apple and persuaded her partner to do the same. This enraged the Deity.

As a result, the reptile was punished by being made legless and the humans were expelled from the garden. The story became increasingly complicated from this point on; the Deity periodically interfered with the descendants of the couple expelled from the garden, once becoming so furious with all their descendants that he drowned almost the whole of humanity except for one family and the living mammals, reptiles and so on they were able to summon.

Eventually, the Deity became simultaneously both Himself and His son, plus a Holy Spirit which had occasional cameo roles in the story, acting as a useful plot device. Once born to a virgin mother, the Son made a thorough nuisance of himself in Palestine, ending up being crucified but astounding His followers by coming back to life not long after His death.

Every believing Christian is obliged to believe, or pretend to believe, all this and one assumes that Rush was among their number.

With all esteem and respect for Old Palo Altan, whom I thoroughly appreciate for his understanding of the difference between Roma and Romanian, the subsidies will most definitely have to apply to the Gypsies as well, or else a European shitstorm that Orban cannot want will take place. He will be giving ammunition to his enemies. No social policy in the region can ignore or exclude the Roma. The only way in which you could discriminate is by placing restrictions on the basis of education, employment status, prior rap sheet and even then there would be Gypsies who qualify. Also, any of these provisos can be attacked in the National or directly in the European courts as being unwarranted discrimination. Discussions regarding all sorts of policies in Romania (state transfers for children, for the impoverished, for the handicapped etc) all flounder on the shoals of discrimination or on the idea of unintended consequences. We already have memes about people who have kids just to collect the "state allowance" for each child (50 euros a month, 80 for the very young, plus whatever the local authorities pony up for their inhabitants like housing, land, gifts for child births).

I have heard it said that Romania has the highest absolute number of Gypsies, but Hungary has the highest percentage - though the census is unreliable, because you have to self-identify as Gypsy, which many will not do in front of state officials.

Nonsense. But let's ignore it because it is nonsense and look at some truths: lower infant mortality rate than the US. Highest doctor to patient ratio in the world. Although a very poor country, Cuba has the same average life expectancy as the US. (Chomp on that, libertarian ostriches.) No starvation as in the US. Free and competent medical care, so competent that they can export it, and the receivers of that export welcome it. Universal access to education, health care, safe drinking water and public sanitation. Diversified agriculture, instead of one-crop colonial agriculture. Literacy rate comparable to or higher than the US (depending on whose statistics you look at, but either way it is very high) No McDonalds, Burger Kings, or Starbucks! For that alone it deserves the highest kudos.

And if you say it needs loans to survive, A. So does the US, and B. they would survive fine without it, because they distribute the country's gifts fairly.

  • A BRIT WRITES: Bass is a British beer. Burton-on-Trent is a famed brewing town in the center of Englad. The photograph can be dated from the clothes; these are English coal miners before company-provided pithead baths became the norm. Miners would stop off at a pub called – unsurprisingly – The Miner’s Arms (complete with an apostrophe in the wrong place) after their shift and drink one or two pints of bitter beer. They would then have an overall wash in a tin bath in front of the kitchen fire or range at home. It was a hard and dangerous life – dangerous from the constant inhalation of coal dust [Miner’s Lung] and also from the dramatic events like flooding and the roof collapsing. Along with quarrying and deep-sea fishing it was potentially a lethal way of life.

Yet it was well-paid by comparison and many men gladly fled from the Wordsworth-Goldsmith rural idyll to become coal miners and some were willing to cross the seas and become miners in the Appalachians and Australia ,
