Now, unlike most folks in the West, I trust the Chinese government infinitely more than ANY western regime, but even I can see that once the China-bashing campaign swung to a totally new level once the SARS-CoV-2 panic began, the Chinese had a major political interest to point a finger right back at the USA.

In fact, I would argue that NO government out there wants to be blamed for this latest disaster and that the finger pointing is not going to stop, especially if a US politician dies from respiratory complications.

It smacks of desperation.

The CCP can read the tea leaves. They realize that at best, the world will blame the disgusting eating habits of their citizens and the wet markets that cater to them for the pandemic, and at worst, will assume that it was released from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, intentionally or not.

The epicenter of the Chinese outbreak is a few minutes’ drive from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where we know researchers were studying and engineering bat coronavirus strains capable of infecting humans. And before this crisis, Trump was winning the trade war (which China started with its mercantilist policies and IP theft), and the US economy was extremely strong, and his reelection seemed likely. Now, due to “social distancing” and other containment measure, the US economy is tanking, and the stock market–Trump’s favorite reelection talking point–is now in a full-on correction, putting an end to the longest bull market in US history and erasing all of the gains made since he took office.

If it turns out Shi Zhengli and her Institute have nothing to do with this (which I doubt), then the next most probable scenario is the official story: zoonotic spread from bat to pangolin to human via the wet market. Regardless, it’s clear that despite the CCP’s efforts (which I suspect you’re a part of), the rest of the world will (rightly) blame China for this.
