From The Atlantic, Conor Friedersdorf interviews a black woman who lives in Evanston, Illinois, where the white public school students have the highest test scores in the U.S. for whites and there is the third largest white-black test score gap, so the wokeness is especially intense: ‘The Narrative Is, “You Can’t Get Ahead”’ In Evanston,...
  • Here are the New York Times' graphs of the seven days moving average of new coronavirus cases and deaths. Because the lines represent the average of the last 7 days, they lag about 3.5 days behind the latest day. The official case count seven day trailing average plateaued from about July 18-25 and has been...
  • It sounds like a big question that we need to answer is the relative risk of infection in which everybody is seated facing the same direction (e.g., airplanes, movie theaters, sports events, school buses, barber chairs, country line dancing) as opposed to venues with people facing each other (restaurants, cocktail parties, some subways, waltzing). Now that you have understood Wendy is all safety theatre, will you go there again? That is the more interesting and important question. We are all aware of traffic accidents but drive around. Where is the risk/reward equilibrium with Covid? I saw plenty of regular folks streaming into hair salons, restaurants and airplanes today (on TV); but dental hygienists are apprehensive about going back to work.

    Replies: @sondjata, @animalogic

I’d absolutely go again. I’d prefer to NOT use the drive through. I’d put on my mask or scarf, keep calm and carry on.

  • Related. Was at a Wendy’s today. The drive through window had plexiglass similar to what is being used in the supermarket. However; since the plexiglass stops above where the food and money is exchanged it is essentially of no use. Why? Clearly a case of safety theatre.

But that is what’s going on. A lot of safety theatre and not a lot of safety logic. Clearly the data shows and has shown that general outdoors activity is very safe. There should be lifting of all prohibitions of use of public outdoor spaces that are not concerts and the like.

I think for spaces like movie theatres there should be a closure of every other row and people strongly encouraged to not sit next to people who are strangers to them. My larger concern would be AC systems. I look at a movie theatre as a mini cruise. Confined space with artificial air maintenance. How long is too long in such a situation?

Similar for work places in offices. How long is too long and under what ventilation scenarios?

Also given the demographics of those who are most affected by Wuhan, might it be prudent to put some restrictions on persons with certain BMIs and health conditions? Should companies be given broad immunity from lawsuits if they hire or otherwise allow to work people in higher risk categories who fall sick presumably from a work derived infection? I think a lot of companies are closed not only due to govt orders but legal issues that could arise from asking employees to do their jobs.

In my local multi-plex, I'm usually sitting in a mostly empty theatre anyway, as I'm watching a matinee showing of a movie for grown-ups, not a comic-book movie.

Changing seating in airlines isn't going to fly, so to speak. Reduce the seating density down to where mysophobes are comfortable with it, and it won't be economical. Airlines just won't offer the flights, not at prices that the common people can afford anyway. I'd be happy if they just reduced the density down to 1980s levels - for the extra legroom.

Related. Was at a Wendy’s today. The drive through window had plexiglass similar to what is being used in the supermarket. However; since the plexiglass stops above where the food and money is exchanged it is essentially of no use. Why? Because the direct avenue of transmission from driver to attendant and vice versa is unobstructed.

I went to Culver's. One pays at the window, where the cashier has gloves, then drives up to a space to wait for another worker to bring a closed-bag order to the car on foot.

This sounds a bit safer. At any rate, even in normal times you don't want the same hands touching both the money and the food.

    Disagree on the exercise hypothesis.

The data, ventilator use, clearly shows that lack of lung capacity to move massive [relatively speaking) amounts of air is part of the problem. Hence the mortality rates of obese and people with CV issues.

So why did the choir members get sick? same reason the subway riders and medical professionals got sick: dosage (same air for extended periods of time).

Secondly I’ve notice a pattern (albeit anectdotal) that many symptoms occur “in the morning” as in ” I woke up and my throat was…”. When we sleep we move very little air which may allow pathogens time to get deep into the lungs without the pressure of exhaling deeply.

Also. Nose breathing. If you are “out of shape” you probably mouth breath which is not the optimal way to breath.

If blacks are descriminated against, then that would account for fewer black businesses. Fewer black businesses means that there are some black businesses. Where are they? Are there any large or medium ... or small ... businesses where the black buy is not a front for a white or Jewish guy, where nearly all the management and accounting staff is black? Just from the odds, that would have happened, like if you roll six dice and get five or six ones. Do any such businesses pop to mind?

    Googling:

-- Johnson Publishing, Ebony and Jet publisher ... chapter 7 bankruptcy.

-- BET, television network, spinoff Salamander Hotels?

-- Carver Federal Savings, Harlem based, highly regulated industry so the black business problems of nepotism, corruption, money skimming, expense accounts and so on are probably kept under control by annoying whitey minders from the guvmint.

Looking at these businesses, I'm starting to discover a pattern: They never have pages on their websites with their managament teams, like you'd find at Apple's website. Would such pages be an embarassing matrix of white faces?

Continuing, I'm seeing a lot of black-targeting clothing, cosmetics and hair stuff, home-launched food businesses, crafty stuff, none of which seems appealing or successful.

Do blacks want to patronize black businesses? I recall a YouTube video explaining why blacks prefer Asian barbers in black neighborhoods, except when they need something really precise and black-specific. Apparently they are cheaper and faster. Also, first come first served: There is a weird caste system in the black barbering world where someone can come in and butt in ahead of you. Also the barber takes little breaks to argue with his girlfriend on his cell phone. And so on.

For the benefit of those who don’t understand:

Once an ISP has your IP address and location where you posted from, which is very, very easy to get. They then look for where else the IP address has gone to: Gmail, facebook, Twitter, etc. Eventually there is enough evidence, say going to a page with information that identifies you, to be pretty certain who you are.

For example, if you post from your job, then the IP goes to your job. If an interested party is really interested, then can have the IT dept look up that IP traffic for the given time. They will know which computer had the IP at that time and thus WHO the actual person was.

If you use a lab machine at a school then you likely had to give up your ID to get a temp ID to login. Once that happens you are in the same boat as an employee at the same school.

Also, if you log on and comment from work and then go home and visit the exact same sites using the same moniker, you can be ID’d that way.

You paid your online bill from the same machine with that IP address? You’ve been ID’d.

The only thing that can keep you anonymous, aside from serious sec-ops is to not be online. Hence if you’re online and you comment, you ought to be mindful of what and how you say things.

Let’s be clear here. The reason for any and all these “losses” the international restrictions on engagement. Afghanistan could be a nuclear wasteland and been done with. Short of that mass carpet bombing of any and everything that moves in various locations would end some of these ‘wars” quickly.

Yeah, let us be crystal clear:

'International restrictions' have never stopped US military either in WW2 or after.

To wit, US carpet bombed North Korea to the ground*.

[The US air force subjected North Koreans to three years of ‘rain and ruin’.]
[It was 64 years ago that North Koreans emerged from this war into a living nightmare, after three years of “rain and ruin” by the US air force. Pyongyang had been razed to the ground, with the Air Force stating in official documents that the North’s cities suffered greater damage than German and Japanese cities firebombed during World War II.]

US did everything except drop nukes in Vietnam: carpet bombing, chemical** attacks, Napalm,...
Nukes were considered next, but cooler heads prevailed, rationally arguing that things will most likely spin out of control with USSR also using nukes in support of NK (I presume tactical first, then who knows,.....)

You can lookup things US has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc that are illegal.
Who's going to stop US? The UN? The war crimes tribunal at The Hague?

Reason US does not use this or that in its illegal attacks on defenseless countries is because it has to maintain some image: you know, "we are there to bring liberty, law and order, blah, blah,...." (mainly for US sheeple consumption)
US seeks to 'legitimately' maintain its spot on top of the perch: ruling classes are mainly interested in accumulating wealth and unrestricted access to world's resources so they can accumulate.....more wealth and power.

Yeah, if it is the end of everything, US can wipe out the world (....as Russia can).
But US can't resort to "total war", because even its sycophant 'allies' would distance themselves from her.

btw: about carpet bombing or nuking Afghanistan.
#1 there is nothing to carpet bomb there: even US does not have enough conventional bombs to cover every square mile of Afghanistan, and kill every Muj hiding in mountain caves.
#2 Kabul is a US puppet: how is carpet bombing Kabul (the capital) beneficial to US interests, whatever those interests in Afghanistan are.
#3 how is US going to exploit whatever it is goging to exploit in Afghanistan with everything radioactive for 1,000s of years?

Your whole premise of US military supremacy may be valid in some unreal hypothetical scenario, but is as constrained as it is due to practical constrains which have nothing to do with any international agreements, bans, conventions, etc...which US routinely ignores as needed.

Our population reference set consisted of 148 individuals (a continental reference panel of 37 individuals from across Europe, 37 from Nigeria with Sub-Saharan African ancestry, 37 from across the Americas with Native American ancestry, and 37 individuals from China).

Actually they address that in the paper.
    1) “It is not possible to use Native American reference sequences from inside the United States, since Native American groups within the US have not chosen to participate in recent population genetics studies.”

    2) “For Native American references, we used samples within the 1000 Genomes project of Native American ancestry; these samples come from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia. ”

The primary objection here is/should be the use of some 1/256 Native American DNA to “race claim” when convenient. If she can do it, then any and everybody should be able to.

    1. Carlos Bustamante is a world expert in exactly the area of admixture
of indigenous genetics into the general population of the Americas. He
may be a "hired geneticist" but you should believe his technical results.
In this specific area he will be more reliable than the big commercial outfits.

    2. A 5th generation "Cherokee" ancestor might easily be 50% White. Thus the
actual Native American ancestor would be 6th generation. You can't expect
family lore at this remove to be exact.

The simplest conclusion is that Senator Warren has been telling the truth here.
This issue should be dropped. A slim hope indeed.

    Yeah, except:

” an unadmixed Native American ancestor in the pedigree at approximately 8 generations before the sample,”

    Note the “unadmixed”.

Hence the probability of a 3rd great-grandparent being 50% is zero.

If the nearest unmixed NA was 8 generations back (7th-great-grandparent) then the only 50% person was 6th-great grandparent.

And we’ll note that the author cited said that the unadmixed NA ancestor could be further back.

Everyone is predicting that Whites will flee the dumbed down and diversified schools. But there is an equally plausible response - just create a new elite program within the school.

Call it an "honors" or "accelerated" program, or whatever. But it will basically restore the status quo ante by simply establishing a new school-within-the-school.

The smarter kids get to keep learning at the same pace. The slower kids get the resume value of attending the elite school. Everybody gets to pretend that the school is "diverse." It's a win all around.

My understanding is that this is what happened at all the "desegregated" schools in the South. They went from separate segregated schools to segregated classes within the same school. This seems to make people feel better, so whatever.

And it was pretty interesting that Ford said she dated him for a while, and then -- immediately after the party perhaps? -- hardly ever socialized.

It is at least consistent with the theory Whelan proposed -- as was the discussion of the map of the houses in question.

And it also seems strange in the extreme that they had dated, yet, in the dismissal of the lawyers of Whelan's theory, it was reported merely that Ford knew him well, and so wouldn't confuse the two. Why not say they had dated?

And what in God's name was Ford's distinction between "dating" and "going out together" supposed to mean? Were they not out as a couple?

    2) 1 party wishes to get laid. If it’s a guy he’s trying the “nice guy” routine of “no pressure, lets have fun” in order to hope she “grows” to like him enough to give him some one day. Usually doesn’t happen but hope springs eternal.

I should avoid this baited trap. But the history on both shootings is so horribly egregious that t'is no wonder how you get Vietnam so askewed.

The officer that shot Michael Brown and the rationale involved -- had nothing -- nothing to do with what transpired at the mini mart -- Nothing. The officer did not know about the incident, , was not responding to a call about the incident ---- nothing about the mini-mart had anything to do with the shooting. Had that been the case the narrative and discussion would have been different. I say that because black people put other black people on trial for just such behavior -- even when they are arrested by police who don't like black people.

So your attempt to stage a scenario about young black men by using the Michael Brown incident is off base by example, and in every way misapplied. And the pretense the worst of the foreigners attempt to hone in on the spoils of a long and tragic history between blacks and whites.

I won't even dig into the implication of of guests coming to the country and getting their facts wrong on an incident and then proceeding to apply their inaccuracy to an entire population. That's not a new practice, but it is quite obnoxious for a foreign guest to do so. It is intellectual carelessness to present this incident as you have.

Another story, you have managed to massacre is that of Trayvon Martin. Since Trayvon is not alive to tell what happened we have only the words of his stalker. And even that telling has serious issues. It doesn't matter what color you are if its late at night and you are following someone -- they might think you suspect and instead of flight -- they may fight -- probably a good idea to identify yourself early, if you are on official business -- even if you aren't.

After providing a fine and accurate description of one variance of slavery among the ancients -- you then proceed to a bizarre comparison given no thought whatsoever to legacy and how the legacy short and long term if said slavery was based on skin color and inferiority --- was engaged throughout the US in every area of human life. In 2014, throughout the US housing policies denying black home ownership were still in practice - said blacks could not even live in said community unless they were servants.

Sadly, it's a liberal dream dream team whirl of analysis of application. I am not going to decipher banking, financial services, law enforcement practices, housing - redlining, educational policy and color politics, but the available reading material -- 21st Century is not all social agendizing, but polity by the numbers. That you make conclusions minus even the careless application of crime stats to make wholesale generalized conclusions - is more than disappointing and hardly accurate.

If you actually believe that black businesses are rare or nonexistent in urban communities and throughout the US -- there is no help for you.

even i venture off the beaten path to check the numbers and consider what they mean to the country's black white legacy.

    http://blackdemographics.com/population/black-male-statistics/

I don't think unreasonable that a guest writer so engage before spilling the quaint cliche's proffered. Even the gaps here are not indicative of failure --- as I have repeatedly noted -- we don't need a single immigrant -- and this cliche' nonsense is exactly what we'll get in truck loads. Despite its coziness here among the commenters and the assorted writers here --

I loathe your pandering. Like the "tiger mom" nonsense, it's just that, pandering.

P.S. there is no support for the varied dysfunctions that blacks hold common to any group inheriting or inhabiting the same conditions. But this writer is not the one who should even attempt that discussion. This submission in this community hardly exhibits courage.

Good greif. By the way -- just a note, print journalism hasn't gone a month discussing black and white polity since before the country was founded. The issue was that intense -- even among whites in creating the US identity. You simply are ignorant of that breadth of journalism.

The officer did not know about the incident, , was not responding to a call about the incident —- nothing about the mini-mart had anything to do with the shooting. Had that been the case the narrative and discussion would have been different. I say that because black people put other black people on trial for just such behavior — even when they are arrested by police who don’t like black people.”

Man, this is such BS, that your hands must reek after typing it.

Darren Wilson was on his way from a call when he heard the call about the mini-mart. When he was on his way there, he stumbled across Brown and his buddy walking down the street. It was after he passed them that he realized that Brown matched the description of the mini-mart assault perp and proceeded to reverse back.

    nope.

This issue has been regurgitated ad nauseum. The officer's altercation was about those walking in the street which is against the law.

The narrative that was initially put out by the police chief was incorrect, some say lie. And that story fell apart rather quickly when the officer admitted he had no knowledge of the minimart issue.

That officer had no idea what happened at the mini mart.

Walking in the street was the instigation.

  • Hello. As usual, enjoyed the read. However; I must point out the following:

    You said:

“The Civil Rights victories of 1964 and 1965—the public accommodations act and voting rights act—created tremendous anxiety among African Americans about how they would fit into a desegregated society, so the rise of black separatism at exactly that moment of legislative triumph was not an accident. It offered a segment of the black population the choice of opting out of the new disposition of things. Opting out had consequences, and over several generations since then, the cohort of poorer black Americans has grown only more oppositional, antagonistic, and economically dysfunctional—with the sanction of America’s non-black “diversity” cheerleaders, who remain adamant in their own opposition to the idea of common culture.”

I’d like to dissent from this position. Particularly since I am an admirer of a so called “separatist”: Marcus Garvey.

Firstly, since Garvey predates the “Civil Rights Victories” we can be certain that “black separatism” is far older than alluded to here. Secondly, “black separatism” is not the cause of “economic dysfuncton” and the like since black separatists (not to be confused with nutty groups) are FOR economic activity. FOR business. For self-sufficiency and FOR earning ones “equality” by way of work.

Indeed, it is the “integrationist” groups who have promoted the dysfunction and antagonism by promoting a sense of historical entitlement. Indeed these people not only want IN on the larger society, they expect to be supported *by* that same society (what Derbyshire recently referred to as parasitism).

So I believe you’ve hitched the wrong horse to the wrong cart in this part.

    Also works for the negative:

the negative intellectual transformation of society -i) stands firmly behind the negative social trasnformation of society (-s). All social problems are economic (-e) and all economic problems are political (-p) and military aims presuppose politial objectives (-m)

    First,
I don't think my comments challenge crime rates.

    Second,
my comments don't challenge the demographics of crime.

    Third,
my comments don't claim that blacks are criminals because whites own the majority power stakes.

My comments explicate (not the same as excusing) what the numbers most likely indicate.

    1. Most blacks don't challenge or don't care about the second amendment.
    2. crime is no unique characteristic of blacks -- a brief look at history will make that clear.
    3. That blacks are actors more often against whites in criminal activity -- is not an indication that blacks target whites -- certainly not merely because they are white. It's a simple state on interactions -- as discussed.
    4. Whites have little to fear from blacks wanting to take their guns - so that can kill them later -- there's no evidence to support it.
    5. The simplistic explanations regarding the stats have little if any veracity and I note why that is the case.
    6. Mounting these types of assails is indicative of some level of irrationality. With respect to violent crime various comments and the article suggest that nearly three hundred million whites in the country will be victims of 1.5% of blacks engaged in violent criminal behavior. Given what we now know about criminal behavior, most whites will never come into contact with violence at the hands of any black in fact the likelihood is 0.2615% -- not even a 1% chance of such an interaction. That percentage drops considerably when one starts looking at the distribution of said criminal actors. So if every single black person involved in criminal violent act were crammed into the same space as the 235,170,569.5 whites there would be less than a 0.3% chance of being a victim from a black person. Stratifying that population out across the country, diffuse it further by relational dynamics and the chances decrease considerably. Mounting a fear campaign based on those numbers is a tad, in my view irrational.
    7. When I was a young conservative I used to hop on these numbers in the same way. But eventually my course work took me through actually doing stats and evaluating stats and interpreting stats. And understanding what numbers mean in human relations be a tough row.

I never sure how to respond to when someone takes one comment and juxtaposes it against an entirely different subject as you have done. I am never sure if the person is confused, , doesn't frasp when one argument in a series if not by cause related , whether that person is just being mischievous or deliberately manipulated context so as to make some "kneejerk" point. Whatever the dynamic in -- you have managed to misapply my comments on power stakeholders --

That comment does not go to explicating criminal behavior. It applies to understanding why there seems to be so much panic among whites with increasing intensity. Especially the tendency to blame blacks. And I guess I would have continued to what I suspect is at the moment given the data an unseasoned fear of blacks. Now it is entirely possible one day the majority of blacks will begin campaigns against whites that whites engaged previously on them. I doubt it. There is little evidence to support it. Maybe. Which leads one to second guess -- what is the historical record of what whites have done that suggests turn about is fair play.

There's this little practiced matter in criminal cases -- it's called motive. I noticed your comment has no references to just how that was determined. Just because get smacked in the head by a red head does not by itself mean I was attacked for being green eyed.

Further, I have no doubt that some number of whites get attacked just for being white, but one cannot know that simply by looking at the numbers. That is the kind of simplistic explanation hijacks color game. The recorded history on such behavior clearly weighs against whites as to cause and is well documented.

Note: I did not say it doesn't happen. Apparently, you and the articles author are on the same shallow page --- one of the vital issues when assessing criminal cases is motive. Sometimes motive is so hard to determine given the issues - that some locals don't even require it.

It would do well, not make arguments I am not making such as --- color is not factor in criminal behavior against whites. I didn't say that and I did not suggest that.

What I said again -- is that just because a black person has committed a crime against a white person does not mean it was motivated by the persons whiteness. The reason such cases are easier to make for black people is very simple --- the vast national practice in which whites attacked blacks merely;y for being black:

    black on the beach
    black disrespect
black dating flirting married to white person
    blacks seeking job
black buying a home -0 wrong neighborhood
    black with money
    black with no money . . . .

    being black.

The history of discrimination based on black anything is just a hard hurdle to ignore.

If anyone needs reality check its anyone claiming that said color motivated crimes by blacks is in any manner the magnitude, scope and consequence in every aspect of citizenship the same for whites -- even color is indicated as the motive.

No my comments do not condone, excuse or in any manner suggest that such motivations (skin color alone) are justified.

    First let's tackle the obvious,

    a. according to your own stats most blacks are not interested in changing the the 2nd amendment and most likely support individual gun ownership at the very least -- don't care

    b. there's no method of determining which weighs heaviest being black or being a democrat or liberal in otherwords black liberals , progressives, democrats (most likely those educated elites) are inclined to support gun control just like their white counter parts

    c. hispanics are white and are counted as white among nearly all survey data sets -- and they openly want to be seen as whites --- no hurdling or IQ required to comprehend why.

    d. engaging in categorical manipulation doesn't help make the case, in fact, it belies a manner of willful and sinister manipulation of the truth so as to advance an agenda -- in this case the typical blacks bad whites good. Democrats are democrats, counting democrats alongside blacks as though that represents some manner of actual comparison skews the numbers and in general represents a false comparison --

    Third,

Overall support for private gun ownership has increased despite a dropping crime rate. And in previous discussions that increased included members of black citizens.

    https://ijr.com/2015/04/301406-new-poll-shows-major-shift-in-how-americans-view-the-2nd-amendment-and-gun-control/

    Fourth

    a. uhhh it's shocking. And it's accurate, that upon remaining in the lowest of the low income arenas blacks seem to reflect the same dysfunctions that exists among the previous owners on inner city life - occupying the ladder that blacks in larger numbers now own. And lo and behold, they also have the same disproportionate crime stats. Though they had out longer than those other populations, white in color. Over time, whatever malfunctions occur finally eroded the to norm . Those darn blacks in similar circumstances are just like whites afterall --- that's disappointing.

    b. And just like the white demographics, some cities are more prone to these behaviors more than others.

    c. But let's play fair -- hispanic and asians are whites not black and both are ethnic groups --- sliding them into the color box constitutes a gaming of the the stats. No cheating, one should own their own, even when we don't like what that ownership means.

    d. It's a safe bet that when blacks who support some manner of gun control they aren't just after the guns of whites. They are also after the guns of those inner city users of weapons. Most gun control advocates are equal opportunity gun control advocates.

    Fourth

    a. Another shocker, the more desperate the circumstances in which people live, the more likely the crime rate, including violent crimes are likely to be -- seems to be a phenomenon regardless of color, but we have worked over time to make any and all human commonalities uniquely blacks especially if its negative. The longer anyone groups occupies said environments without a shift, the more sustained violent environments thrive, hence the term cycle of violence, poverty, etc --

    b. The goal here of course is to denote some overall assessment of the black population in general by examining the numbers. Let's just take murder. Based on this article,

    http://narrative-collapse.com/2017/04/05/doj-blacks-committed-about-53-of-all-murders-in-2015/

there were roughly 14,000 murders in 2015. Let's attribute everyone of them to blacks. That's 0.034%. It doesn't represent a 1/2 % of the black population --- hardly an angry mass mob looking to go after whites with or without guns afterall one has be with a specific population, location and social set to be a victim of a tiny minority. It's always nice to bin up the numbers by percentage comparisons of by ignoring the actual totals. Like the scary percentages of police deaths from homicide were up some forty percent or whatever that number was nearly two years as it turns the increase was a total of something like five officers with a rang total -- there was no war on the police, not an active gun war anymore than blacks are trying to confiscate duns just from white people so they can kill them later.

One wants to defend gun rights, fine by me -- my full support. But this kind of advocacy among thinking people gives conservatives and gun rights activists a bad name for very squirrelly arguments. It's the kind of fear mongering that lends credence to contentions that gun advocates are a paranoid fringe -- hoping the bottle snaps so they can shoot their imagined threats for real.

And it misses the real issue that causes concern -- the random mass shootings on citizens. That's the issue. The marches and protests the last five years are not concerning the few black people who shoot each other. It's that unsuspecting person who one day walking into a public square or sits on a rooftop or balcony and just starts killing people. To pretend that you can change the real fear people have by pulling out the old crime in the streets gambit, insults the intelligence of most people who know and understand that there are certain locations and social settings best avoided to avoid being shot. Generally people know what those neighbors are and where they are located -- they can avoid them. No. The fear is for commonly understood safe places to suddenly become a shooting gallery: places like the mall, the lark, the local school, entertainment venue or of all places the country's churches.

Sec Rice is not talking about the dangers of walking at night doing a dope deal in Cabreeny Green, Kansas city. She is talking the unlikely scenario of having a picnic on her ranch with friends which is interrupted by someone who doesn't like Tuesdays and has decided in a blue mood to take the lives of herself and her guests.

The poverty as explanation for crime rates has been debunked:

    http://garveys-ghost.blogspot.com/2017/05/and-now-we-destroy-poverty-argument.html

    for example:

“Black residents of block groups with incomes greater than $60 000 per year had firearm assault rates similar to those of White residents of areas with incomes between $20 001 and $30 000.”

    And

“Therefore, unlike previous research in Chicago, race does not appear to be a surrogate for economic status in determining violent firearm injury risk in Philadelphia.3 Rather, our findings echo those of Kalesan et al.,5 who found that nationally, Black children were more likely than White children to be hospitalized with firearm injury regardless of neighborhood income level.”

Good luck arguing with him... he is firmly steeped in academic fantasy. And he demands that racial reality of crime reports, and their many victims, be ignored (even at your own detriment). What he promotes is equivalent to saying touching a hot stove is okay (because an leftist academic said so). Some people have to learn harsh reality the hard way.

I am not sure you actually read my comments. I did not say the old stand by poverty causes crime . . .

But the correlation between urban poverty and crime is co No being poor does not equate too poverty. However, as I noted, the conditions of said communities that bred and encourage said dysfunctions are historically consistent despite the color of the population that inhabits the same. Your statement of the obvious in an eager attempt to tackle an argument I did not make is hereby dismissed --

There's a system referred to as historicism and that system when applied or overlayed against certain urban environments reflect consistent dysfunctions: whether said inhabitants were of any color.

Since your entire advance is predicated on an argument I am not making -- well,

    enough said.

Your eagerness to score points of course missed the central arguments. blacks are not attempting to the guns away from whites. Blacks as their white democratic counterparts are after guns -- in general -- period.

The causation -- corrollation argument has been established long before 2017. In otherwords, we have known that there is no singular poverty cause to effect relationship. It is not that simple. And it has been explicated since the 1970's, I think

Nice work. That first graphic is terrible though. You can see it comes from a Government department.

Its a shame there are no figures for victims for all of the cities listed in the article. The principle problem with the focus on suspects or even arrests, is that this can simply be attributed to institutional racism. What would be more telling would be conviction rates, where the court system is arguably more objective.

Whatever the case, the narrative that gun crimes are a white problem is clearly idiotic.

They have a section where they give a random reader advice on how to get out of debt and without fail the largest non-housing expense was their vehicle. A 95% chance that a woman doesn't win 14 years in a row means there's a 48% chance she will have not won a single event. We would probably need considerably more than 100 years to know if the probability of women winning was equal to that of men, particularly if it turned out to be less than men.

For example, even if we ran 100 trials of the contest and there were 0 women who won we would still only be at the 99% confidence level for the hypothesis that the probability of women winning is not equal to that of men, a rather weak statement when we instead want to presumably know what the actual probability of women winning is.

I would think that carrying away a couple million people out of say 100 million with a mortality rate probably exceeding 20% in transit, a 10% mortality rate upon arrival and maybe a 1% mortality rate in the work, would give a good argument for a founder effect.

But since you disagree, please do point out why.

  • Having just wrote on this matter and being a runner I’d like to posit the following:

Lets assume no doping. Having made that assumption, lets also look at WHO is winning. It is not simply “West Africans” but West Africans of the diaspora. West Africans also compete under France and England (among others) but do not usually WIN much less set records.

My hypothesis is that the trans-Atlantic slave trade gave the diaspora a founder effect. Composed of West Africans from the Senegambia down to the Ngolans.

That experience also acted as a brutal un-natural selector for certain genes such that their combination comes at a higher frequency among that population.

I think this would probably also explain why it is certain Kenyans and probably certain Ethiopians who do extremely well in the distance races. If it were simply about technique, Europeans and Europeans descended Americans would KILL in the long distance races (and short ones) because without a doubt there is far more science here than Kenya , Jamaica, Trinidad, etc.

-Actually that's probably not the case. If you take the issue of FireFighter exams (hardly a test of intelligence) you'll find that test taking ability rather than actual intelligence is the determining factor. A recent discrimination case in CT showed that white firefighters usually had family members who were/are firefighters and were able to help their white mates with the exams. That has nothing to do with intelligence but rather one of access. The black firefighters reported not having the same access.

Now I had large problems with the CT case for two reasons:

    1) Relevant to the blog entry, the Vulcans (A black order of firefighters) failed IMHO to provide the necessary backing for their members by providing the same level of access to materials. Exactly WHAT were the vulcans (or whatever they are called) doing with their membership and dues?

    2) The test they used was created by some "diversity" panel that had the silly ass idea that blacks had problems with "spatial thinking" (going off memory here). In one case a diagram of a set of buildings from a birds eye view that needed to be translated to horizontal "man on the street" view was deemed "too difficult" for African-Americans to figure out. Never mind that assuming such a skill is necessary for managing firefighting that anyone who can't do it should not be a firefighter or a manager of firefighters, anyone who's seen basketball knows full well that African-Americans can in fact translate views and angles. You can't play basketball well without doing so.

After looking that up, you should note recent reports such as those in the NY Times that noted that the "land redistribution" plan has actually started to work and that the primary problem in Zimbabwe has been the economic boycotts by outside parties.

  • 10 mm: You should use more recent statistics:

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/analysis_and_planning/crime_and_enforcement_activity_jan_to_jun_2012.pdf

That said, at no point have I disputed the rank over representation of black victims and perpetrators of violent crime.

Here's the problem though: Here folks like to act as if those "95%" numbers are reflective of the entire population.

It's up there with so called feminists who try to claim that for each rapist there is a single unique perpetrator when in fact the data shows that a small minority of men (~6%) are responsible for the vast majority of rapes.

Now looking at the linked PDF from the NYPD you'll note the total population of NY at ~8 million.

In the Murder category for the time period Jan-Jun 2012, we find a total of 185 victims (all races and ethnicities). That's .002% of the total NY population.

of the 107 arrests, 55% of them were "black". that's 53 arrested black persons.

The black population in NYC according to that report is:

    1,861,295

so 53 persons out of 1.8 million black people (.0029%) are, by the logic on this board the total representative of the entire group of people.

I suppose the other 1,861,242 people are just waiting for their turn to stick a gun in your face.

    *shrug*

I guess numbers like .0029% and the like are not as sexy and explosive as "95%". but if it makes you feel better then by all means continue.

  • @ Stuff: You should thank me for doing the research for you. 🙂

: ' No blacks, no crime, so to eliminate the crime, you have to…………" <– Not according to the federal crime stats. Just sayin'.

What a powerful assertion. You win!

Now, can you please stop being evasive and respond to Californian's questions in order that we may have our long overdue dialogue on race that we whites are too racist to have? You wanted to engage in substantive, factual discussion, and that's precisely what he offered.

As for myself, I would just about bet my life that you're NOT black. But I can't, because I have to keep working to support BRA...

<AG Gaston was paid 167. Total dollars 201.6

"The airport and the construction team in charge of the $201.6 million terminal modernization project continue to examine the terminal and take any precautions, she said."

no word from AG Gaston and Brasfield was the only one to issue a statement.

Who is the "construction company in charge" AG or Brasfield?

"Brasfield & Gorrie representatives were there because of their knowledge of the terminal's construction, "

"The project includes complete renovation and expansion of the existing terminal (Concourses B and C) and construction of a new 19-gate Concourse A" <–From Gaston Website.

"Friday's collapse happened in the renovated terminal which includes Concourses A and B. The terminal opened March 13." <–From AL.com

This points to A.G. Gaston as the most likely company responsible

    What? Shocked I'd post that?

  • Oh Gosh! Which "anonymous" to respond to first.

    *eye roll*

    1) "Sondjata, I suspect the significant work (i.e. structural, architectural, electrical) went to qualified non minority companies due to their expertise in this area."

Well you can suspect whatever you like. Since this was a government funded project the contracts ought to be available to the public under FOI. So while anyone of us could "suspect" whatever we like, the statistics given by the author means it's a 69% chance that it was not "the minorities".

But the author could do the research and put the entire speculation to rest. As of now there is no proof of who did what. For all I know the "minorities" simply drove the sign to the airport and wheeled it into place.

2)"Piss off nigger, go back to reading black voices, whining about trayvon. BV"

Ohhhh ad-hominen attacks. Always informative. I wonder how long it took you to come up with that one?

    3) "Cranes are complicated pieces of machinery. Through human error or negligence, accidents can occur…A sign anchored to a wall should stay put, and if it's been anchored properly, it does."

Perhaps the most intelligent response thus far. Cannot disagree with anything said here. Of course nothing said here actually shows who did the shoddy work. Right?

    And then there's dissident:

"Blacks are roughly 13% of the population, yet they commit 75%-80% of the violent crime. How's that for statistical analysis and I'll let you make the logical comparisons. "

I see that someone read some FBI statistics. Very good. Here's a gold star sticker for you to take home to mommy and daddy.

Now what was I saying? Oh right! Exactly what does the above have to do with the story at hand?

    Of right. Nothing.

Hey..this is called a "tangent". Please do look it up. Google is your friend.

Of course I could play the same logic in that since white people (of various ethnic groups) also commit crimes then the sign must have been posted by white people.

That's a "conditional statement". Look that up too.

Of course such an argument would be faulty so I wouldn't make it.

What about those Mob union set asides…wait..wait..can't talk about that. What was that that happened to that tunnel in Boston? Substandard parts that fell down on commuters killing at least one?

Oh right. I bet it was the "minority" owned concrete company responsible for that.

About those video games. I'll go only if you promise to play online with me and promise to call me nigger. m'kay cupcake?

    *eye roll*

  • Sooooo… let me see if I understand the logic here:

    1) Sign falls on child.
    2) 31% of contracts for the airport were given to "minority" contractors.

    Therefore:

Minority contractor must have been responsible for the sign falling.

    Someone clearly failed logic 101.

Let's see: The video shows a set of white men in what appears to be construction uniforms lifting the sign. The only black face near the sign would be the person in the grey uniform sweeping the floor.

No, pray tell, if I went simply by what was shown in the video, it would be the FIRST assumption that a "non-minority" firm was responsible for the sign and therefore were responsible for the sign being improperly attached to the wall.

Now that would be what we call "sound" logic.

Now I could see if the author had bothered to actually look up which actual "minority firm", if any, was responsible for the sign PRIOR to posting and then made his case. I suppose that would require a bit too much work. Better to distract us with stories about race tracks and city councils.

I mean it cannot be possible that white construction firms fuck up…oh wait..those cranes that fell in NY.

Oh wait…how many near misses due to controller error at airports?

    Oh wait..

If the government wasn't imposing quotas we would assume the best were being hired. Not since that's not happening we will assume the contrary and draw the appropriate conclusions. If you demand special treatment don't be surprised if people assume the worst.
