It’s a rich man’s hobby now, since the cars and the engines are now museum pieces, and you can’t wander down to the local junkyard and find parts.

I’ve thought motorcycles might appeal to a new generation when they rediscover life by rejecting smartphones and video games and leftist cultural sterility, and in the cafe racer/cheap Harley subculture, a perfect match for a revived youth trend that rejects black cultural fetishes and behavior. They can pick up a used bone stock Harley Sportster or Triumph’s Thruxton or Speedmaster for as low as $2500, and do all kinds of chopping and bobbing yourself with some like minded buddies, and turn young ladies heads by doing their own thing instead of aping black culture. Us Gen X bikers would love to see an infusion of fresh blood. I’m tired of being the youngest biker around at age 42 on a Harley. Same with the MC culture. It’s geriatric. Go to any bike night and if you see anyone riding in under 30, it’s a miracle. Maybe the gen z kids will resurrect it, because unlike modern cars, working on bikes (real bikes, like Harley and Triumph) is still very much a DIY thing and affordable. Some ate dogs, to others it was taboo. I’d definitely ascribe a doggo equivalent to the influenza that was the main culprit (not white “genocide”) in reducing natives by 90% before sustained contact. Afterwards, the trade network that brought cloth, metal goods and muskets to natives also brought improved European dog breeds along with the horse and chicken and pig. There’s an account by a Moravian missionary among the Delaware in 1770 in a village half a mile from my house that shows them with cattle, chickens, apple orchards and gardens with European vegetables, as well as a few horses. The people were living in log cabins and wearing linen and cotton clothes. When they died, they were buried in wooden coffins. Stands to reason that after adopting and modifying European material goods and cultural practices as well as selecting some animals, dogs would have become one of those as well.

    Good comment.

  • Is wearing a sombrero a symbol of solidarity, cultural appropriation, or political incorrectness? In America, fraternities and sororities are constantly getting disciplined for throwing margarita-themed parties where guests wear sombreros, but how is a Lord Mayor supposed to be up to date on such refinements? It appears that the huge number of Mexican fans who...
  • The photo says it all. He squats there, a “Englishman” doing his best to look truculent, dressed in his 21st century political finery of black, with the obligatory pithy message, while behind him on the walls the portraits of Old England wait to be tossed into the garbage when he destroys everything this island once was, because it’s not his, and never will be.

    Cuck Island, indeed.

How did Kristoff serve in the US Army during World War I by 1916? Does anyone know the rest of the story?

He was drafted after the declaration of war in 1917. I’m assuming that his role as a suspect eventually came up and he was discharged as a security risk.

  • I finally watched the DC superhero movie Wonder Woman and it was pretty good. The Ancient Greek island of temples and waterfalls was nice. And the idea of using German WWI General Ludendorff as the proto-Nazi bad guy was clever. Ludendorff gave Lenin the idea that War Socialism was a good way to run an...

I always wondered why Wonder Woman (being a Greek demigod living in the Aegean) didn’t go and fight the genocidal Turks next door instead of the eeeeeevil Germans on the Western Front.

Oh, I forgot, there’s only one holocaust worth remembering and one enemy worthy of a superhero, according to Hollywood. Armenian Christians murdered by muslim savages or Ukrainian ones murdered by Bolshevik savages get the memory hole.

Not to mention the massacre/ethnic cleansing of Anatolian Greeks:

The Greek genocide, including the Pontic genocide, was the systematic genocide of the Christian Ottoman Greek population carried out in its historic homeland in Anatolia during World War I and its aftermath (1914–1922).[1] It was instigated by the government of the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish national movement against the indigenous Greek population of the Empire and it included massacres, forced deportations involving death marches, summary expulsions, arbitrary execution, and the destruction of Eastern Orthodox cultural, historical, and religious monuments.[2] According to various sources, several hundred thousand Ottoman Greeks died during this period.[3] Most of the refugees and survivors fled to Greece (amounting to over a quarter of the prior population of Greece).[4] Some, especially those in Eastern provinces, took refuge in the neighbouring Russian Empire.

A great idea for a film that Hollywood will never make would be Operation Nemesis, where the Dashnaks hunted down and killed the CUP Turks in exile after 1918, most notably whacking Talat Pasha in Berlin. But of course, that would be “islamophobic”.

The Holocaust you're getting your tangles in a bunch over, that happened in a different war.

The answer to your question is simple--everyone and their granny knew Germany was THE power behind the Central Powers.

From a storytelling point of view it is pretty obvious, no? The Germans lost WWI, the Genocidal Turks succeeded in evicting Greeks from their ancestral homelands. If Wonder Woman beat up the Turks, why does the modern world look the way it does? Obviously the whole thing is fantasy, but people like to have some degree of plausibility. It is quite easy to slot superheroes into victory narratives everyone already knows. Unless you are putting the story in an obvious alternate universe stories about Wonder Woman destroying the Ottomans, or say, Superman winning the Vietnam war or Batman sending Trump to Arkham prison back in the 1990s, won't work.
