RSSStupid and gross.
People forget the influence of the 1967 Frederick Wiseman documentary “Titicut Follies.” Lots of shocking footage from inside a mental hospital in Massachusetts, which the staff argued was badly and unfairly skewed by selective editing.
How accurate the movie was, I don’t know. But it had a huge effect on students and professionals in mental health and in law during this period and onward. For instance, it was screened for students in my graduate program in the 1980’s. (Students and professionals were allowed to view it during a long stretch when it was censored from public release on account of patient privacy issues — I think this lasted until the early 1990’s.)
Shamir is often a very good and entertaining author, but his analysis in this instance is faulty to an extreme. He would like us, his readers, to go along with his turning common sense upside down! Who is facing threats of nuclear genocide and who is making such threats? Kim Jong-un is making the threats, demanding that he has some kind of right to develop and deploy nuclear weapons against the South which has no such weapons, and South Korea is forced to face them. That is the unadorned truth of the matter.Shamir's distortion of the history of the UN vote in 1950 -- condemning North Korean aggression against the South and surprise attack by the North upon the U.S. Army -- was a diabolically clever and cynical move by Stalin and Molotov that had nothing to do with the China seat on the UNSC. That issue was a classic stale-mate: Russia could not have forced the UN to seat China on the Security Council. USA,UK and France also had -- each one of them as much as Soviet Russia -- veto power. What a pathetic excuse for an article by someone who knows better
right to live onv one’s own land without facing threats of nuclear genocide? -- Israel Shanir
How could North Korean troops surprise American troops on the peninsula? We’re they on holidays? Touring museums and eating in exotic resteraunts?
Your statement begs the question why US National troops were there, and not back behind their own borders.
Yankee’s and Israeli’s will always think there are monsters under the bed. Yanks are an extreme and paranoid people. They also have to have an enemy and need to fight someone. If it wasn’t Muslims or Israelis, it would be some other infidel defiler that dares challenge Jesus’s so-called kingdom vehicle… The USA. Whether it’s blacks, Mexicans, Russians or some other phantasmal menacing force determined to end their world for them, it would have to be someone.
Yankees are a military dictatorship, a brutal police state, inherently racist, with a government resembling a fundamentalist messianic cult. And don’t forget, run by the greediest of bankers. In short, they are Nineveh.
Israel is an American child, they share many features and sentiments their father does… so I don’t care what they do to each other. It’s another white person conflict, a family affair, a domestic dispute between bankers. It doesn’t matter to me if Anglo-Saxon old white men made money off towers collapsing or Jewish old white men did.
The Saker says this as if it's a bad thing.
There are many reasons for this, historical as well as political, but I don’t think that anybody doubts the fact that while Americans love to kill for their country, they are much less enthusiastic about dying for it...
Patton… was just a goon, plain and simple. A world class Ice-hole. Patriots can be a bit of a pill.
Yet Politifact gave Trump a rating of “mostly false” the other day for his statement that Clinton wants open borders.
Trump is referring to a leaked speech excerpt in which Clinton purportedly says, “My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere.”
We don’t have more context about what Clinton meant by “open borders” because she has not released the full speech. Her campaign has said she was talking about clean energy across the hemisphere.
Trump argues that it directly applies to her current immigration policy. She has not called for open borders in this campaign. Clinton has proposed making it easier for the current undocumented population to gain a path to citizenship with conditions, but she has also supported beefed-up border security.
As a Canadian, I’m wondering what the stats are here versus the American stats. OxyContin has been a massive problem in some areas of Canada and heroin and especially fentanyl overdoses are up. I haven’t seen anyone pick up on the Canadian aspect of this story in the media and I don’t expect them too.
How come no comment on the other Physics winner being a Canadian? There’s got to be some sort of Sailerian analysis there.
One weird fact I stumbled across recently with regards to Mad Men is that Ronald Reagan’s brother Neil was a senior vice-president of McCann Erickson and it seems he was based on the West Coast.
you’ve knocked it out of the park with this one steve. brilliantly done, and the next post as well. jesus, your country is going fucking insane. the new AUMF is out as well, allowing perpetual war anywhere anytime, against a nebulous ill defined enemy.
I think part of the reason why Cosby is getting some attention is because of the similar flame out of the CBC’s public radio host Jian Ghomeshi. Usually Canadian events don’t affect the US, but Ghomeshi’s show Q is widely rebroadcast on NPR and it is basically the same where there’s smoke there’s fire story, including that rumours had been going around for years.
