Pepe did mention Indonesia. You just didn't read the article. I would say 'populous' or 'grossly overpopulated', not powerful, except in one sense stated below.

Indonesia's polity, like Burma's, has a direct connection to Japan's Great Asian War.

They were the only places (except to some extent Mongolia and Manchuria) where Imperial-Fascist Japan of those years had sizable popular support.

However, that changed in Indonesia when they had a CIA-coordinated change of government in around 1965.

As a polity, Indonesia may as well be called the new Javanese Empire.

That empire far surpasses the old Dutch imperialists for suppression of the other major islands, most of which (except perhaps Sumatra) would be better off and happier as independent states.

Indonesia is a major power in that it has the second or third largest fleet of landing craft in Asia. The reason is entirely internal use, by Java against other islands where the people would prefer to be out of the evil Javanese Empire.

I tend to agree with much that Pepe writes, but his repetition is boring, and wilfull blind spots too obvious.

Wish I could agree on the "powerful" part.
Being a Muslim myself, I cannot pinpoint a single Muslim country that can be described as powerful. Maybe Iran.
But in general no Muslim country can fight to save their societies from destruction, and they are feeble minded, very easy to manipulate and cause tribal, ethnic and religious clashes to destroy them. They are powerful experts at oppression of their societies

Indonesia is an important part of ASEAN. There is talk that they want to join BRICS+.... It will be interesting to see. They killed a military equipment deal with Russia for fear of the US - but they refused to sanction Russia over Ukraine (and are buying energy)... They made clear they are not going against China for the US... So it will be interesting.

Indonesia is economically competent which excludes from the also rans clustering around China. (India is there to hold back China).

Pardon mon ignorance, but if CoViD is easily spread to various animals eg big cats in zoos, domestic cats, minks etc, how readily can it be spread from those creatures back to humans? If readily, why could not the natural reservoir be some Wuhan moggy that liked cruising the markets, or a pet such and such that was a present from a relative in backwoods Yunnan?
