Not precisely related to the post at hand, but it never fails to amaze how far some of us will go to avoid criticizing the vibrant for even the tiniest of shortcomings. Saying “ax” in place of “ask” in not only not wrong – it has a proud distinguished Western lineage leading all the way back to Chaucer (but apparently only recently noticed):

On the bright side, my local public library has many Flashman novels – perhaps all – in both print and audiobook. I checked out a “Flashman” audiobook today!

I tried to check out “Camp of the Saints” from my university library (I’m a late blooming grad student). The book appeared in the online library catalog and I placed a request for it to be delivered to the main campus branch for me to pick up. A few days later I got an email cancelling my request because the item “could not be found”.

I think we may have turned a corner here in white privilege redemption. I think our vibrant friends have realized that it’s just not useful to let these YT pols just up and quit. Better to have them cowed in place, because any municipality of any size will soon run up against the rocks if a son of the dark continent takes the wheel. I think maybe they are realizing that “access to whites” is going to be necessary to keep the gibs coming and the internet going and the infrastructure running. Just as long as the YT governor understands who he’s working for.

I’m skipping the whole thing and going to the organ concert at Disney Hall – I don’t need to watch these overpaid animals crash into each other.

I have a feeling that once the demographics permit the epidermal shade of domestic servants may become decidedly paler.

Several years ago, I decided to learn Spanish so in my final years I would be able to hear and understand my caretakers at “the home” plotting to smother me with a pillow – I’ll be too weak to fight them but I’d rather know it’s coming. That may have been a waste of time – by the time I need assisted living care it may be poor whites changing my bedpans…
