RSSI wonder if Ms. Carroll invented that double-secret-probation racism variant all by herself; or whether she adapted it from the similar meme over there in the pro-Palestinian quarters: that it was bred-in-the-bone Jooooo-ish racism and supremacy alone which was responsible for the absence of even minimally-credible accusations of anti-Arab sex crimes on the part of the Israeli forces throughout 70+ years of conventional warfare, counter-insurgency and occupation policing?
My fairly considerable experience with late-Soviet and post-Soviet Russian-Jewish immigrants to the USA is that they are fanatically pro-Trump, rabidly anti-communist, and extremely unlikely to ever vote Democrat.
Funny, they don’t look Jooooish.
I’m so deeply touched by the profound commitment these three generations of Berrigans have to peace, love, and the brotherhood of person-kind. You go grllll! Kumbaya!
Growing up in the 1950s, I remember there was always a white Cadillac convertible or two with the WW2/Korean Police Action “Gold Star” parents in the Memorial Day/July 4th/Labor Day parades in my NYC inner suburban —mostly lumpen-bourgeois/ethnic white working class— hometown.
Due somehow to a kozmik glitch a decade later, in ’68-’69 I ended up as a grunt in Eye Corpse, toting an evil black assault rifle… and while our casualty rate was nothing compared to the previous World Wars, we generated a fair number of Gold Star families as well. But by then the term had completely disappeared from common use: not to mention the white convertables and the Memorial Day parades as well, more or less. No Gold Star Caddys for you pathological parents of psychotic baby killers!
And now, somehow in the Khizr Khan case, the Gold Star meme is back in bizniz. WTF?
Hilary may be beneath contempt in almost every respect but she’s not notably stupid and her Inner Party cabal knew exactly what they were doing on this one. At least until somebody started Googling up Khizr, Esq’s rather interesting backstory. Maybe the cabal ain’t so bright either, given the incompetent vetting of this Hero of the US Constitution and his duly reticent Gold Star co-parent.
Don’t be so sure. I could foresee President Obama being appointed UN Secretary General by Hillary. Iran would engineer the40+ nations of the Organization of Islamic Conference to madly clap in unison. If that happened we’s see the only possible successor Sec Gen who would actually be more incompetent and insufferable than Moon Ki Boon, or whatever that dude’s name is.
To save you all the need to crank up your calculators and thence to Google the resultant date, 1683 is when the Christian armies led by the Polish King Jan III Sobieski, abjectly defeated the last Muslim/Tartar invasion of western Europe —until recently, to be sure— in the Siege of Vienna.
That shoulda said, “I can’t believe that the Mr. Farhad, however discombobulated he/it/xir may have been, didn’t know exactly what the telegraphed subtext was here.”

Though Silicon Valley has well-known problems with diversity in its work force, people here pride themselves on a kind of militant open-mindedness. It is the kind of place that will severely punish any deviations from accepted schools of thought — see how Brendan Eich, the former chief executive of Mozilla, was run out of his job after it became public that he had donated to a campaign opposed to gay marriage.
Actually that’s quite a leap for the NYT. And in the right direction!
I can’t believe that the Mr. Farhad, however discombobulated he/it/xir may have been, knew exactly what the subtext was here.
I think it was in a thread somewhere on Sultan Knish, wherein after I had referred to Steve Sailer as a “semi-judaeophile”, the Sultan himself took strong issue with that characterization… to which I still subscribe.
