Asatru had it’s reawakening in Iceland in the 1970’s. Stephen McNallen and Else Christensen formed Astatru and Odinist groups in the 1970’s in the USA. I have belonged to an Odinist group since the 1980’s. Our group does not encourage participation in politics, thus, none of us vote or follow political issues very closely. Many of our members were once Amish, Hutterites and Mennonites. We have Bosnians, Germans, Russians, Scandinavians, a couple of Hispanics and a Chinese man who actually lived and trained at the Shaolin Temple for 12 years.

Religion is a reflection of myth, fork lore, custom and culture of the societies that originated the stories and turned them into belief systems. Religion is ethnic in nature, not universalist.
