RSSThe press response to the El Paso shooting seems likely to be self-defeating: the Democrats and corporate establishment will not beat Trump by crying “racist!” The shootings will only intensify the bitter polarization of the country. Those that refuse to accept oligarchic domination will just become angrier as elites use the incident to justify a further clampdown on civil liberties. Likely the more effective approach would be a restoration of civil liberties and a shift of our political culture away from identity politics towards general substantive reforms that increase the life opportunities of those who are feeling dispossessed and degraded by the status quo. Unfortunately, our country is run by moralizing imbeciles, who want to punish enemies rather than help citizens. Demonizing the white working class is the most convenient way to defend both their privilege and sense of moral election.
One thing the shootings did was knock Tulsi Gabbard out of the (corporate) news coverage after her breakout moment last week. Today Jewish Insider and Jonathan Allen on Twitter opportunistically linked Tulsi with neo-Nazis: https://jewishinsider.com/2019/08/neo-nazis-boast-we-got-tulsi-in-the-debates/ It’s a fallacious, guilt-by-association argument, but it’s still may be effective at turning people away from Gabbard. Despite her vote against BDS (and pace Paul Craig Roberts’ new article) Gabbard is a much more serious threat to the Zionist design to dominate the Middle East than is Trump, who has largely green-lighted Netanyahu’s messianic program. I doubt that was the intent of the shooting, but it’s something I’ve pondered as I’m becoming an obsessive Tulsi supporter. Still, there are far too many mentally ill people in America with easy access to heavy duty firearms and much to be resentful about in such a corrupt, ill governed country to deny the plausibility of the official narrative about the El Paso shooting that has emerged.
