See, earlier, by James Fulford: Disparate Impact: Legal And Political Last week's item about jaywalkers in New York City brought in some emails. It referred to complaints that city cops issue jaywalking tickets disproportionately to Sun People, i.e. blacks and Latinos. Sun People are only 55 percent of New Yorkers, but they get 90 percent...
  • Absolutely spot on Derb. Disparate Impact Theory is yet another of those which spring from Cultural Relativism, a belief that all cultures, all groups are equal and therefore should have equal results. As you pointed out the fact that Republican Congresscritters at a hearing regarding this policy refused to challenge its factual basis illustrates how far into the pseudo-intellectual muck our culture has sunk.

BTW in regards to Cultural Relativism has anyone determined why The Tribe are USA’s most successful ethno-religious group? https://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/15/magazine/is-your-religion-your-financial-destiny.html

  • Adapted from the latest Radio Derb, available exclusively on VDARE.com My readers all know about New York City's Communist mayor Bill de Blasio. Those of you in the great windswept spaces west of the Hudson River are probably much less familiar with Mayor de Blasio's wife, a black lady named Chirlane McCray. Ms. McCray is...
  • Spot on Derb, spot on. Talk about speaking truth to power. Black privilege indeed.

Jonah Keri just wrote an article that the big slugger is "dead". A bit bombastic for sure, but his point is correct that the market is currently not paying for 1 dimensional. @Jivilov

Baseball has the problem that if nothing dramatic changes, such as expansion, steroids, the rabbit ball, the mound being lowered, etc., the scoring and homeruns will go down--meaning less fan interest. That's because pitchers have such a huge natural advantage that all it takes is a few tweaks in their strategy to compensate for any surge from the hitters. Hitters have to make a lot more adjustments and get a lot more luck to start increasing their advantage, and without an outside force coming in and making it happen, the pitchers will evolve quicker to compensate.

Football and basketball have the opposite problem, as scoring goes down whenever an outside force such as expansion or steroids kicks in. E.g. in the 1990s in the NBA, a combination of expansion and steroids in (the Goliaths running down the court were literally twice the musculature of those greats from the 1970s and 80s) caused scoring to go way down, so that 85-75 games became unsuruprising. That and thug-black culture killed off a lot of fan interest. The NFL has been much more judicious in expansion historically, starting with the NFL refusing to expand at all for years, forcing de facto expansion when the AFL came into being and then merged in the 60's. Once the NFL realized high scoring with high-acheiving white quarterbacks were the big sellers, they made rules to keep that in place.

    @Jivilov

Lewontin's paper is from 1972. It is ancient history. There was no genome at that time. A political decision was made on this paper basis by American Anthropological Association. It was trictyl political affair.

Levontine created a straw man. He studied only several traits, chiefly blood groups and various protein related to blood cells. And it just happens that the variability within ethnic groups of these traits are large but similar among the different groups. Blood groups are just not good indicators of racial difference just like number of eyes or legs can't be used to differentiate between ethnic groups because all humans have two legs and two eyes. Edwards criticism was valid but misguided because he went after the straw man. The correct criticism should be that blood does not matter. Already Shakespeare kind of knew that If you prick us with a pin, don’t we bleed? If you identified genes and alleles responsible for skin pigmentation, hair thickness, curliness of hairs, bone thickness you clearly could show that using these genes you can separate some ethnic groups with almost 100% precision.

Now data are available of genome for various racial groups and it would very easy to do the study on 1000's of SNP's. And you even would not need to know what functions they are responsible for. It would be a multivariate association and correlation study maximizing probability of identification of one ethnic group from among the others. But nobody will do it directly to disprove the dogma established by Levontine because that could be career suicide. But perhaps some results could be lifted from "legitimate" research like reconstruction of face mugshot from DNA:

    https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg22129613-600-genetic-mugshot-recreates-faces-from-nothing-but-dna/

Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. I don't recall any cogent objections by Fred to race realism or Lynn and Vanhenen's ingenuous belief in their figures but Ron Unz in TAC set out the most compelling case for doubting that many of L & V's figures could be given simple genetic explanations. None of that precludes firm belief on much evidence (a) that the persistent one sd IQ difference between American whites and African-Americans over 100 years is substantially genetic; (b) that Ashkenazi and some true out-of-Iberia Sephardi Jews have substantially higher heritable verbal and mathematical abilities than the average European which IQ tests reflect; (c) that IQ scores reflect on average real differences in cognitive potential such that schools rightly stream pupils so that those with IQ scores above say 120 will be given a chance of learning the material which is a precondition of professional occupations and those with IQs under say 105 will be steered towards something "practical". I have an inlaw who owned her own primary school for many years and she could easily estimate with accuracy from a child's schoolwork what its score on IQ tests would be AND get pretty close in predicting which of them years later would get into top universities. There is of course a certain asymmetry. Someone with a measured IQ of 150 can readily see that someone with an IQ of 125 is smarter than someone with an IQ of 115 but someone with an IQ of 120 may detect no difference between 135 and 145. Not that the one with the 145 IQ is necessarily going to be the better CEO but he's more likely on average to solve your tax problem or become a court of appeal judge.

Then again, last year I watched a black woman use the Federal anti-racism apparatus to openly extort a five-figure settlement from her previous employer, a medical firm on whom I called as a salesman. If I were in a position to hire someone, why on God's Green Earth would I hire a black woman when she can later make any wild claim she wants and, if I value my firm's reputation in the community, force me to pay her tens of thousands of dollars to go away quietly rather than lie her face off and get her mug on the evening news?

Racism is real. It's been a weapon used to hit whites, especially white males, for decades. I think I speak for many when I say, "we're getting tired of turning the other cheek."

Yeh-heh. All this “white privilege” business is getting nauseating. Solzhenitsyn’s Zek aphorism seems appropriate here:

“If they’re [effing] you, don’t lie down and ask for it!”

People mostly have no sense of historical context. They exhibit signals that they live in the Perpetual Now, and notwithstanding their quoting one source or another, live like there's no past or future, only Present.

The "We are the World" tolerance (left-collectivist version) of today is an artifact of existing at this moment near the apogee of a 200 year "rally" in social mood, as measured by major stock market averages going back to the 1600's (the London Stock Exchange.)

Everywhere I look I see evidence of a manic peak in "Extraordinary Popular Delusions" and endless flame wars defending the current "Madness of Crowds."

    This, too, will pass.

When it does, there is an EPIC amount of energy now stored in a reservoir of RAGE, experienced by people marginalized for simply being successful.

Women have been taught by feminists to use the family court system to TORMENT their ex-husbands. LGBT enthusiasts have been taught to use the legal system to extort and mercilessly beat anyone who doesn't jump into lockstep with their deviant desires. Blacks have been taught to use the legal system to equalize outcomes to which they are not entitled, endlessly extorting settlements, raises, better jobs, promotions and gibsmedats. Browns are now leveraging the Left-collectivist political narrative to stream into the USA.

This is filling a vast reservoir of RAGE, damming it up with the tissue of political consent that itself is just a temporary product of historically unprecedented mass optimism.

What no one seems to grasp is that periods similar to this have occurred before, and in every single case conditions eventually changed and the pent-up RAGE smashed the illusions holding it back.

Watch the stock averages and bond yields. WHEN (not if, WHEN) they finally do roll over and deliver the normal, natural "correction" to this 50 year lurch into illusory wealth, funny money and rejection of natural laws, the collective tolerance for all this stupidity will wink out of existence and be replaced by the urge to rip others limb-from-limb just has occurred every other time this sort of thing happened.

Those who currently hold squatters' rights to the Moral High Ground are likely to be shocked at the velocity and amplitude of the wave that is coming. I don't relish the snap-back toward the mean (and we'll surely overshoot in the other direction, an unpleasant prospect to be sure) but I do l0ok forward to experiencing some schadenfreude when those who presume to lecture me about my badthink reap what they have sown.

They are going to close all the gaps regardless of whats causing them. Most people want that, so thats what will happen. Changing a populations average frequency in some alleles isn't a big a deal. Its technically easier than changing the environment. You only need to make some more nerdy babies than usual.

Theres no need to drive yourself crazy. You and all the racists lost a long time ago.

If “all the racists lost a long time ago,” how come the US still has race-based affirmative action? Could it be that a color-blind society is not really on the multi-culti agenda?

Lol. So something which you racists complain non stop about, misrepresent, want removed still being here is proof against you losing?

    LOL.

  • [Republished from April 1, 2008] With an occupying army waging war in Iraq and Afghanistan, with military bases and corporate bullying in every part of the world, there is hardly a question any more of the existence of an American Empire. Indeed, the once fervent denials have turned into a boastful, unashamed embrace of the...
  • Ah yes, Howard Zinn, another hate-Amerika Lefty who, as the late historian John Diggins noted, “Live off of liberalism, but not for it.”

This essay is fine as far as it goes. Most of us would prefer to live in a world without war, with liberty, justice, and material plenty for all. Perhaps someday, when all human cultures, religions, tribes, nation-states, empires, etc. share the same values and belief systems we may eventually get there. Until then it’s an unfortunate fact of life that some people will strive for advantage, and if they run a country they’ll try to spread their influence as much as possible.

And yeah, the occupation of Iraq was badly handled. Whether you agree (as I do) or not that invasion was justified, most of us were disgusted by the chaotic mismanagement which followed. (Whatever possessed Dubya to allow Bremer to disband the Iraqi army and almost totally de-Baathize the Iraqi civil service? That thoroughly alienated the Sunnis and provoked their insurrection.) No doubt if Iraq were a viable, prosperous state today a lot of the “No Blood for Oil” rhetoric would be simply water under the bridge. Didn’t happen though, so the finger-pointing continues to this day.

On a broader plane, the stuff Zinn does–like A People’s History of the US–is one-sided and naive. The elite minority which supposedly runs the US government can do no right, and those who lost (indigenous Americans, blacks, labor unions, feminists, Mexicans, Filipinos, etc.) are virtuous innocents. The American people themselves have been “striving, against corporate robber barons and war makers, to make those ideals [of the Declaration of Independence] a reality — and all of us, of whatever age, can find immense satisfaction in becoming part of that.”

All very nice for those who like to believe in conspiracy theories and the intrinsic goodness of the American people. Unfortunately this fails to take into account the “common man’s” (before women had the vote anyway) complicity in the dispossession of the “Indians,” the enslavement of blacks and continued white supremacy under Jim Crow (along with its de facto assertion in the North), popular enthusiasm for wars against Spain, Imperial and Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, North Vietnam (don’t forget Nixon won in 1972 by a landslide), Afghanistan and Iraq, along with his (or her) basic suspicion of any “radical” economic plan that would upset the economic applecart by killing the Golden Goose of capitalism.

Yet the US must have been doing SOMETHING right all along. Otherwise tens of millions of immigrants wouldn’t have picked up stakes to take their chances in “the land of opportunity” over the centuries. They’re still doing it, in fact, including from countries that used to be the source of slave labor, were once colonized, or suffered the effects of US invasion. So let me pose this question to the Shade of Zinn (or his living supporters): Why have people from all over the planet voluntarily thronged to the shores (or nowadays, airports) of a country that’s so presumably elitist, oppressive, war-mongering, racist, sexist, and so forth?

It's quite obvious that you're an Elitist lapdog that's willing to give the Elite a free pass on all the damage that they've inflicted on this country. The Elite have been trying to take total control of this country from the People for MANY years and are coming very close nowadays. They are close but still haven't. For all it's faults America is STILL the land of opportunity and hope. The people that flock to our shores come for the American Dream. The ones that come legally come because, same as the many Americans that you put down in your post, they still have hope of turning America into the nation that it was intended to be. The American Dream. The American Dream which you and your Ayn Rand Elitist ilk are trying to turn into an Atlas Shrugged American Nightmare.

And here is where you reveal yourself to be the Globalist that you are. Globalists like you who are willing to destroy America in your quest for a Global One-World-Government. Globalists who pretend to care about "humanity" as they disgustingly seek to slaughter humanity to reduce population by famine, disease, and war. Globalists who hide behind the facade of doing it for the betterment of "humanity, when it's obvious that it's all about making a smaller human population that is easier to control. It's not about "humanity" to you Globalists, it's about power. That's all that you Ayn Rand Elitists care about. Being selfish. You say "for humanity", but all you really mean is "screw everybody else, as long as I'm getting mine."

P.S. you never answered my question from your article Ilana, so ARE they related to Jacob Schiff?
