What’s remarkable is that in 1950 there were 9 white babies born in America for every black baby born. Today there are 3 white babies born for every black baby born: this shift is almost entirely due to natural growth and not immigration. Blacks will eventually outnumber whites in the country with current immigration levels and birthrates.
 

The biggest problem with us white Gentiles has been that we refuse to discern when our own vital interests are at stake and when they are not. We do not know how to choose our fights.

The recent abortion threads have gone without my participation because (i) the topic is just too depressing; and (ii) I want nothing to do with the larger progressive movement with which the pro-choice position is associated. However, I am unwilling, for the sake of proving a moral point, to take a positive stance whose foreseeable effect would be to condemn my own descendants to live in a savage, black country.

I haven't the heart explicitly to draw the indicated conclusion here.

Black fertility is below replacement. Even Mormon fertility is below replacement now. Outside of eclectic groups like the Amish and Orthodox Jews, populations are falling or will be falling as the median age works its way up the escalator and over the edge. But for immigration the US population would be declining by the end of this decade.

Exactly. Pollution and excessive use of plastic is the major issue, "climate change" is nothing to worry about. Land use and overbuilding could become worrisome as immigration continues to drive suburban sprawl and cheap housing.

You really think some supra-national program might in some way favorably affect climate change? Cost-effectively?
I guess you don't necessarily think it would be possible to implement any such supra-national program (you didn't say or imply that you did).

Anyone of any political persuasion who REALLY cares about the environment would be against huge population increases, such as we have with the immigration invasion. What say you, Democrats?

I don't think that you are really that rare. Many -- most -- conservatives care about the environment, but "environmentalism" is entirely a trojan horse of the left and nobody wants to step into that trap.

That's not environmentalism it's conservationism.

At least, it's different enough to warrant a separate word. These modern environmentalists are on about something entirely different. The whole green/environmental movement is something completely different.

This reminds me of what Plutarch wrote about Solon:

I would make sure to time it right. If debts come due before inflation relieves the burden, one could lose all.

No empire lasts forever. I have cash on hand , but at this point I’m thinking I might as well just take out more loans and spend what I have to get durable goods, more land, etc. for when the dollar becomes worthless

The Fed has been creating over a billion dollars an hour over the last two months. Billion, with a B, each hour. Exchange dollars for real things while you still can.

By the numbers Cuomo has performed worse than any other leader in the world on this. Most deaths, highest death rates. The extremely high marks for him are depressing. Not only did NY fail, they infected all of America. Then again, W's approval was incredibly high, near 90%, early in the Iraq war.

Cuomo just reversed his policy of requiring nursing homes to take coronavirus patients from hospitals. This is an indirect admission he made a mistake and was at least partially responsible for the large number of deaths in New York. You do have to give him some credit for reversing course instead of doubling down. This reversal will save lives. He is also requiring twice a week testing for nursing home staff and that's a good idea. Over a third of deaths in New York are in nursing homes. The high number of deaths is not surprising since WHO said about half of European deaths were in nursing homes and many other states are showing high death rates in nursing homes.

The general lock downs may have unfortunately taken the focus off nursing homes and the older population in general. Spending more time, effort, and money on isolating high risk individuals and testing those who come in regular contact with them looks in hindsight like it would have been a better policy. Florida did a good job of this and had fairly low death rates considering how many elderly retired people live there.

Sweden didn't shut down and showed you could have fairly low death rates in general but still had high death rates in nursing homes due to serious quality control issues. They turned many of their nursing home jobs over to low paid immigrants who didn't follow directions on caring for patients and preventing the spread of the disease because they aren't very intelligent, can't speak Swedish, and don't care about a bunch of old Swedes who don't belong to their ethnic group. That turned out not to be a good idea. The Swedes should have had children to take care of them in their old age instead of inviting in large numbers of third world immigrants and then expecting them to take good care of them.
