    @Cagey Beast

Can you really blame any sane person from wondering just what the hell is really going on in Russia, when this Wikipedia entry actualy includes a total of over 365 journalists killed in Russia from 1993 - 2009? All the stats are based on info gleaned from the website, 'journalists in Russia' https://web.archive.org/web/20110726211634/http://journalists-in-russia.org/journalists/index/incident:homicide/job:director see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_Russia

I explained the roots of modern Russia's unfortunate Stalinophilia here: https://www.unz.com/akarlin/tribal-stalinism/

    (2) You seem to be under the impression that Russian nationalists are anti-Ukrainian psychopaths. This is incorrect. To the extent that we view Russians and Ukrainians as one people - and it is a central plank of our memeplex - we consider crimes against "them" to be crimes against us. There are certainly a few exceptions, and the conflict has brought out some of the worst sentiments of both sides, but this does not invalidate the general point.

While Stalin did clamp down on Ukrainian nationalism - that is, made it haram like Russian nationalism was from 1918 - he continued promoting a separate Ukrainian identity (a much larger share of books published in Ukraine in the 1930s were in Ukrainian than even during 1920s). At the same time, the famines infused that identity with a not unjustified persecution complex. Stalin was arguably even worse for long-term Russian unity than the Old Bolsheviks.

Want to say high IQ people control the media and the narrative? That they control the spigots of the welfare state, and no one is keen to see grandma lose her social security? That resistance is very hard to get off the ground, because everyone thinks it is unthinkable? That high IQ helps keep the machine turning?

Irrelevant. The Ukraine belongs to Russians – all three major branches of Russians – just as surely as does the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation.

..And all three major branches of Romans - Italians, Spaniards and Frenchmen - belong to each other. Not to mention Romanians and Portuguese.

And perhaps all branches of the Spaniards - Afro Caribbeans, Mexican Mestizos, Spaniards - belong to each other also. Their speech is at least the same.

In the real world, your idea of a unitary Slavic Rus state is mostly svidomist fantasy, admittedly backed historically up the Russian military. Ukraine spent more time with Poland than it did with Russia and for understandable reasons its culture is between the two.

…its colonial (or semi-colonial) past within the former Russian or Soviet empires

There was nothing colonial about the relationship under either Tsarism or the USSR

Nonsense. I'm inclined to agree with Anatol Lieven, who concluded that in an analogy with Britain, Ukraine's relationship to Russia had elements both of a colony (as Ireland) and as a junior partnership (Scotland) with respect to Russia. It wasn't as simple as in Ukrainian and Russian nationalist discourse.

The UkSSR was a net recipient of Soviet funds (the RFSR and BSSR were the only donors).

Even if true, this doesn't prove anything. Some colonies were objects of investment. The Japanese invested in Korea and Manchuria, and Germany invested in East Africa, for example.

"The problem is that the more accepted theory is that the Scandinavian name came first and the Slavs made up a Slavic version."

That is, the names Jaroslav, Yaropolk, Svyatoslav, etc. are derived from Scandinavian languages? Cool hypothesis. Please give examples of the use of these names by Scandinavians.

We were discussing Malfrid, remember? Not the other ones.

As for the names of the rulers:
    1. The numerous Waldemars across Scandinavia itself tell us that Scandinavians liked Slavic names.

The numerous Olegs, Rjuriks and Glebs among Russian Princes itself tell us that Slavic liked Scandinavians names. For example Rurik Rostislavich Grand Prince of Kiev in XIII century, Oleg Ivanovich Prince of Ryazan XIV century. In such a case, based on your logic, we should assume that all holders of Scandinavian names are Slavs?

The logical conclusion is that whether the name is Slavic or Scandinavian does not determine ethnicity, because Slavs could have Scandinavian names and Scandinavian could have Slavic ones.

You do realize that these people also used Scandinavian names when interacting with their own people. Yarosalv was Jarisleif, for example.

Jarisleif is not Scandinavian name it is a Slavic name, which was written by Scandinavians. Similarly in Russian chronicles the Scandinavian name Helge turned to Oleg, Hakon in the Jakun, etc.

Now review what I wrote. When Yaroslav was with his own, Scandinavian people, he went by Jarisleif (see the Sagas). Likewise with Hakon, Helga, Ingvar (Igor), etc.

Norwegian King (Olav Trjuggvason, Saint Olav, Magnus Olavsson, Harald Sigurdarson) were in exile in Russia, and regained the throne with the support of Russian Princes. These Norwegian Kings by your logic the Slavs?

Since the state they were exiled to (Rus) was a Scandinavian state, why would this make them Slavs? This fact further supports the Scandinavian nature of Rus. Scandinavians felt at home going into exile there. Just as Rus leaders sometimes felt at home going into exile in Scandinavia. And I love how in your Russian svidomism you refer to this state as Russian.

The greatest Scandinavian King Cnut the Great was the son of the Danish King, and daughter of a Slavic prince. Against enemies (mostly other Scandinavians) he used Slavic warriors. Cnut the Great by your logic – Slavs?

While Cnut did use some Polish troops he did not depend on Polish troops nearly as much as did Vladimir and Yaroslav on Norse troops.

When Slavs in Novogord killed his Norse allies because they had been abusing Slavs, Yaroslav slaughtered the Slavic nobles.

And then he begged citizens of Novgorod for forgiveness.

That's nice. He had to rule over them, after all.

If you think that Yaroslav was a Slav, the Svidomism is strong in you, indeed.

    Yaroslav’s sons names:
    Vladimir
    Izyaslav
    Svyatoslav
    Vsevolod
    Vyacheslav
    Igor

Yaroslav undoubtedly was a Slav (though Scandinavian origin)

We already discussed names - Scandinavians liked Slavic names and Slavs liked Scandinavian ones. To review, Yaroslav was 100% Scandinavian (likely - but possibly "only" 75% Scandinavian). In various phases of his career he relied on Norse troops in his wars - most of his closest allies were fellow-Scandinavians. He provided a home for Norse exiles. When Slavs rebelled against Yaroslav's Scandinavians, Yaroslav slaughtered the Slavs (but apologized to the survivors). He married a Swedish princess. But strong Russian Svidomite claims Yaroslav was a Slav, and a Russian too :-)

He, among others, public affairs, amounted to a compendium of laws. Guess what language?

No originals of Pravda Yaroslava exist - the Ruska Pravda, was completed two generations later, the oldest copy is from 1282. I wouldn't doubt if the law were written in Slavic, given that the population whom the Scandinavians ruled was Slavic. But because the rulers were Scandinavians, the law itself was very Norse in type. It replaced vengeance killing with the collection of weregild, brought about Scandinavian-type jury trials, etc. If Yaroslav was a Slav, why were his laws Norse?

    Replies: @Guy, @melanf

Superstrate influence: the Norse law played an outsized role because many of the druzhina were Norse or of norse descent. Also, Yaroslavs Slavs ancestry does not preclude using Norse troops; Pennisular Scandinavia is a shit land for agriculture and given widespread polygamy, many warriors would flock outwards for better opportunities. The Norse warriors were like Turks; a column to defend against Slavic intertribal conflict, and Yaroslav’s Norse connections made this even easier. The vast bulk of Norse came from Sweden, not Norway, though. However, the Norse warriors had mostly Slav wife’s and concubines, as did Yaroslav. Also AP, as a Ukrainian, your claims of svidomism are strange, though, given that the volyhians and drevylans were very disadvantaged in influence compared to the ilmen Slavs of the northern Slav lands, who were the original supporters of the Rus

BTW, commenter Kilo 4/11 in the other thread has very helpfully provided an excellent example of svidomism:

Ukrainians view their nation as one of the oldest in Europe and Asia: with roots in the ancient Trypillian (Cucuteni/Tripolie) civilization that laid the foundation of the Ukrainian nation and culture over 5000 years ago. Other precursors were the Timber grave culture and Proto Indo Europeans. Many unique practices in modern Ukrainian culture and even words date back specifically to these civilizations.

Since then, human life that existed on inhabited parts of modern Ukraine always shared the same collective conscience (the key trait of a nation), from Kyivian Rus to Cossack states...

I am no great scholar on the matter [I tend to speed read and absorb as much as I can, and old Hebrew is, well old] In the Shulchan Aruch [which is literally the 'High Chair' of justice, formed in Hellenic tradition] the fatally faulty reading of Genesis 16:12 is discussed by the Sanhedrin. Certainly Sarai plotted to have Hagar an Ishmael expelled from the land, yet G'd bestowed Ishmael and Hagar with the same blessings of strength and fruitfulness; and this was communicated to Avraham; which is precisely why Ishmael came to his father's funeral to uphold the letter and spirit of the covenant, which was given to both Yitzhak and Yishmael. The contemporary nonsense that you hear are from the militant, low IQ idiots of the the Kahane haredic sects, who in my own experience know very little of the Mishnah, Talmud or the Zohar. The rest of course [which matters for practical purposes] is basic human greed and covetousness.

Israel's technological, civil, judicial, commercial and intellectual modernity is controlled by the secular Hilonim, whose average IQs are far higher than that of the black-hats [think of the difference between an IQ of 115-120 or higher, with that of 85-90. How do I know? Well Tel Aviv University had a study done some 10 years ago. I'll find it]. Unfortunately, the haredim are forming opportunistic coalitions with Likud, and thus the smell of rot. The day we are gone [to the U.S, Europe and elsewhere], Israel will be just another rotten ME country with nukes. Obviously this path needs to be blocked. How do we do it?

    Replies: @guy, @Gabriel M, @iffen

The diseugenic policies of the charedim plus genetic load from inbreeding probably contribute. On a further note, these studies might prove bad for Anatoly’s theory of a high iq breeding reservoir in the ultra-orthodox.

Hey man, ease up on the insults, please…

Anatoly started it. He maliciously lied about Russian Jews and then accused me of being "gay" when I called him on it.

Anyway, from my understanding, the Haredi (like yourself?) are smaller in number but have lots of kids. (Are you cranking out kids – greasy or not – for the cause?) They are in fairly direct opposition to the secular Jews who are in population decline. Correct so far?

Sadly the secular/traditional (traditional is code for low class Sephardim who are almost never truly secular, there are probably more atheistic Palestinians than working class Sephardim) are not in absolute decline. For some reason nobody can figure out they continue to crank out kids at an above replacement rate despite the fact that the country is already horribly overcrowded. Where the hell do they think we are going to put them?

However, we have more kids then they do and they know it and are panicking. If they hadn't brought in a million Russian non Jews in the 90s we would already be in control of the country. They can't play that trick again.

No I don't have any kids. Last thing the world or the Jewish people needs is more copies of my crappy genetics.

OK – now the majority of the scientific, political and military power of the technocratic nation-state structure belongs to those same secular ones who are not having enough kids. Are the Haredi going to take over all this physical and abstract infrastructure? Are they even capable?

In 2016? No way. You are talking about people where a large percentage of the male population has never even heard of basic things like algebra, a people who essentially don't even know how to get dressed in the morning without first consulting a rabbi. , they def aren't ready to take over running a functional state. Well, the women might be but definitely not the men. In 50 years though, I think so.

One more thing; you never gave me a complete answer to an earlier query; Sam Shama had noted that Rambam had stated that Bani Ishamel have as much right to the land as Bani Ishaac. You confirmed the rank of Rambam among the Rabbinical tradition. Is that a valid ruling?

Let's put it this way, I'm pretty well versed in Jewish theology and I've never even heard that ruling discussed, so if Rambam ever said as much, it didn't become a part of larger Jewish position.

I think sometimes people often confuse Maimonides position on Islam (very positive) with his position on the Arab people (very negative; people were more racist back then so I don't hold it against him despite the fact that I kinda like non Christian/non Lebanese Arabs aside from the whole war thing). If he said the Arabs had a right to the Land of Israel, that would be extremely out of character.

You’re completely nitpicking about this YBT vs Likud issue.
YBT is basically a slightly more extreme version of Likud with some russian identity politics thrown in (e.g. civil marriage).

YBT supports civil marriage, supports bringing in more Russian goyim, supports selling pork in Israel and even supports dividing Jerusalem. YBT is for hedonists who hate Arabs AND Judaism. Likud is for hedonists who hate Arabs but make a pretense of respecting Judaism. Likud is bad, but nowhere near as awful as YBT and it is simply a fact that most Russian Jews do not vote for YBT. Saying that they do is a malicious lie. I doubt more than a third of Russian Jews in Israel (not Russian goyim) vote for YBT.

The only thing I like about Shas is their cool name (for our goyish readers, Shas is an acronym for the Sephardic Torah Guardians... I guess in Hebrew that creates the Shas acronym).

If I lived in Israel I don't know if I'd vote for UTJ or just not vote at all. Prob UTJ.

Or are you coming at this from a purely faith-based perspective? If so, just remember to avoid any leaders that have a fault in one eye.

If not, it looks like the writing is on the wall, simply due to demographics. Why all this confidence in the chaos? It seems that a bonafide military historians like Martin Van Creveld are saying the worst thing Israel can do right now is to cause havoc and dismantle any of the surrounding nation-states. It seems to be counterproductive in that it makes Israel's borders less secure and any backlash far more sanguinary.

Steve, no one is putting guns to girls heads to make them PC-Red Guard their male peers. They do it willingly.

I'd say most women and girls prefer the way things are -- with the vast majority of their male peers emasculated. And indeed, there ARE definitive and "final" winners in the war between the sexes ... if you realize that old school monogamy is dead dead dead. Killed by the pill, condom, anonymous urban living, rising female income and status, leaving hypergamy free to play.

Most women and girls if given a choice would share a few high status, dominant men, with achingly brief encounters, over a lifetime of beta male devotion. When beta male provisioning becomes worthless/devalued by rising female income and declining male wages and relative status/power, even more so.

There is a *reason* this stuff happens all the time. Women like emasculating men, its got a name among PUAs lets call it here the "stuff test." (You can guess the real name, I understand this is a G rated blog).

Women love love love to "stuff test" a man to find out if he's the real Alpha deal or a mewling beta male pretender. Emasculate 95% of men, and by definition those left are the real Alpha deal. Again most women would prefer to share an Alpha than have ALL of a beta male.

This is why btw that most women support mass Third World immigration particularly Muslims. And why "Chicks dig Chechens." They ache for a man to simply dominate them and take charge, and will happily slave away at two jobs supporting their weed smoking, MMA wannabe, drug murdering and terrorist husbands. Paging Mrs. Tsarnaev, Mrs. Tsarnaev, your pressure cooker is ready. [As if she didn't know.]

What Roissy/Heartiste does is the Lord's Work. Men and **especially** boys need to know PUA stuff, and yes this means the end of monogamy and the nuclear family but that was baked into the cake the moment birth control became cheap and reliable and women moved into the workforce.

Heartiste had a discussion recently of Drug Dealer Game. Pretending to be a Drug Dealer, particularly an "intelligent" one who is "thinking of going straight" is like crack to women. They can't get enough of it. In HS, after all, who just tells girls to shove it and has them swooning? Thug or Old School Clean Cut Athletes who are BMOC, the school drug dealer, and other uber-dominant men. And as girls emasculate more and more of their male peers, they demand ever more dominance in their men. Probably most of the HS girls Haidt talked to would be happy in burqua being told what to do for the rest of their lives.

Example: Angela "Let's Flood All of Europe with Muslims" Merkel. It doesn't stop even after menopause.

This is why the "personal is the political" and it is vital for every White man and boy to Alpha up as much as possible.

While I appreciate Sailer and many of other writings of the Alt-Right, I don’t think they realize that the demographic of their own daughters, young white women, are complicit with other parts of the left and the parts of the right to oppress normal(beta, hardworking) white boys and young men. Peter Frost was the only one who was even able to broach the surface of this subject in

Of course the old guys will say its all about sex, but it’s far worse than that. Women have no interest in even relationships anymore, let alone marriage, and infidelity, in my own experiences, is extremely common when these relationships occur, and women don’t want to even be women anymore in their interactions with us.

As an aside, the rise of the younger generation of the alt-right and much of the fitness culture present in the west is due to these phenomena.

    Oh brother....you have no idea.

Do you know the Chechens used to be Christians before the 17th century? Do you know Erdogan parents and origins are from Rize: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rize. A northeastern Turkish city, well known to be a former Georgian-Laz speaking province. Most of it's inhabitants were georgians 200 years. They still are, we just call them Turks and Muslim now.

That city is now a hotbed of Islamic Turkish movement.

Both Chechens and Rize are really trying to make up for all that time that they were infidels.Which is why some of this HBD bullshit strikes me as hit-and-miss a lot of the time.

Why aren't the worst islamic fundamentalists in Turkey from, say, Istanbul? A city literally brutally conquered by Seljuq warriors a thousand years ago, and has been Muslim ever since. And yet AKP barely reaches 30% popularity in votes there.

Just wait and see. Today 80% of Pakistan wants death for apostasy. In 50 years it will be 30%, in another 50 3%.

His 9/11 story is interesting (from Wikipedia)

On the morning of September 11, 2001, MacFarlane was scheduled to return to Los Angeles on American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston. Suffering from a hangover from the previous night's celebrations,[173] and with an incorrect departure time (8:15 a.m. instead of 7:45 a.m.) from his travel agent,[174] he arrived at Logan International Airport about ten minutes too late to board the flight as the gates had been closed.[174] Fifteen minutes after departure, American Airlines Flight 11 was hijacked,[175] and at 8:46 a.m. it was flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing everyone on board.[176]

MacFarlane told TVShowsOnDVD.com that "The only reason it hasn't really affected me as it maybe could have is I didn't really know that I was in any danger until after it was over, so I never had that panic moment. After the fact, it was sobering, but people have a lot of close calls; you're crossing the street and you almost get hit by a car..... this one just happened to be related to something massive. I really can't let it affect me because I'm a comedy writer. I have to put that in the back of my head."[177]

Seth Mcfarlane has long been rumored (he even joked about his eventual coming our when he hosted the Oscars) to be gay, and a lot of the themes and references in his shows – as well as his flaccid performance next to Charlize Theron in his Western comedy — support that scientific theory.

What you have with him is a cheeky West Hollywood gay guy who is used to thinking of himself as repressed, or at least as part of the non-white New Majority, and so he’s relaxed about making fun of blacks and other taboos because he doesn’t think of himself as a Straight White Man.

So when reviewers like this come after him, it’s their own tone deafness at not seeing that McFarland’s fearlessness is coming from rich gay guy cheekiness.

He's also invested heavily in inoculating himself against the charge of crime-think by toadying up to raving loons like Bill Maher. • A small note:

The trend in the WORLD economy since the late 18th century is divergence, not convergence, and Maddison’ figures confirmed this when summarized by regional groupings; Imperialism has something to do with this, as well as its new incarnations since the beginning of the cold war in the form of neocolonialism (ie. formal independence but with basic structure of the economy systematically dependent on imperial trade and investment patterns).

But there is a far more important physical reason for this: If you have an income of 15000$/capita, it is relatively easy to set aside 20% (1500$) for investment purposes. You are still left with 13500 per person to vastly satisfy basic needs. However, when you have an income per capita of 1000$, setting aside 20% is extremely difficult. Hence the basic idea: Those with more wealth can afford to invest a large portion of it, while those with little need nearly all of it simply to survive. Hence, Europe can grow quite fast simply because it can set aside much more income for investment; And indeed, this was made much easier by imperial conquests in the early industrial era.

And the interesting part of this kind of idea is that it can be used to explain many of the different economic fates: That western Europe after the war, including the poorest regions, gained an influx of American capital, a fairly liberal technological transfer environment and a coherent government development plan. This is mirrored by the East Asian tigers as well (which were not burdened by high natural resources and hence drew little colonial attention, except in the beneficial form of military protection by the U.S. against the commie threat). The USSR on the other hand was more autarkic, with little to no capital flowing in from the west, however there was some technology transfer, and more importantly, being a huge country with many people, it had large aggregate income that it could draw on for investment in strategic sectors. On the other hand, most of the third world, while many government expressed explicit support for development plans, had poor ability to attract foreign investment and technology transfer (in some sense the colonial structure of the economy remained), but were also very small states, and hence could draw very little aggregate funds for investment (and in fact, they resorted to debt, which was unsustainable when many of their primary commodity prices fell in the 70s).

  • Contrary to what some might try to take from my post on the longterm failure of the Soviet economy, I am not an anti-Soviet ideologue. I loathe lies about its achievements and the blanket condemnations directed its way by moralistic poseurs every bit as much or more than I detest reality-challenged attempts to paint it...
  • I recommend this book on Soviet economy:

It is very rigorous in analysis and data gathering.

The contention that the people of the SU territories would have been much richer in 1990 without Stalinist planning of the heavy industrial type (and instead some reformed tsarist system) is shown to be false; (compare compound per capita in the late tsarist era of 1.8 vs. 2.1 from 1917 to 1990 or so. And that is with a 25-27 million people casualty war with associated economic devastation). Further it was a primarily agriarian (wheat and barley) based economy and hence would have suffered economic contraction when grains prices collapsed in the late 20s early 30s.

The reasons for economic slowdown in the book are uncoventional but nonetheless do include the systemic (and this is where he is unconventional) both the circumstantial (wwII cold war),

    Something to consider anyways.

  • Debate on evolution begins to flare in the Bay Area:
  • I just wanted to add one thing:
“The interest in intelligent design is partly driven by the fact that there are still phenomena that science and evolution haven’t explained. For example, scientists haven’t yet figured out why the ratio of Phi to 1 — 1.618 — appears in the growth patterns of plants, breeding cycles of rabbits and the spirals of seashells and galaxies. This ratio is also called the “divine proportion.”

This makes some neutral observers wonder whether it’s a war of words: Intelligent-design advocates ascribe the power of natural phenomena such as the Phi ratio to designing forces while scientists says it’s the beauty of nature.”

What is this reporter talking about? Because there is a ratio of anumber to another that appears in certain places is not by necessity divine. I am no mathematician but I am sure that one could devise a ratio of two absolutely random numbers on their own that occured in many different areas of the world/universe. Why is it so hard for people to accept something that bears great evidence when that evidence is not in favor of their (candidate) belief.

  • First, remember that Stenstrom was a CHICAGO BEARS quarterback. The Bears have started more quarterbacks in the past fifteen years than it seems the Packers ever had. What does this mean? It means that while Stenstrom might be ignorant to begin with, he is no doubt the product of a good bashing to the head. (I specifically remember a game against the Minnesota Vikings where he was sacked, pinned down, and threated as two foreboding linebackers stood above him). What else does this mean? That there is a reason that Stanford always has good athletics.
