Yes in Ukraine/Southern Russia there are more high proportions of church attending people. And if I recall, the much lower numbers in areas like Ural region and maybe some other places (Siberia and Far East?).

I'm not sure there is any simple explanation - for example, it's not perfectly looking inverse to income, as high income Moscow seems to have relatively higher numbers of church attending people than many lower income areas. I didn't know much about this topic though or why there should be.

I was much surprised recently, when a couple of Russian emigrant acquaintances of mine unexpectedly started discussing their nascent interest in Slavic paganism.

Perhaps it is indeed slowly becoming more mainstream. The corruption in the ROC and all the petty bickering between the different "Christian" denominations helps a lot driving people away from the Church.

Sad for the honest true believer Christian clerics, of which there are many, good for Slav self-awareness.

It's pretty sad, but vaccine hesitancy is extremely high throughout Eastern Europe, Russia is not atypical there. Excess mortality is very high by world standards, but not significantly different from most of its East European neighbors (as well as Balkans and Peru). https://www.unz.com/akarlin/7-million-deaths-from-corona/ But not sure what relation the premature deaths of a million or so pensioners has to do with the topic, though.

You're not going to wave a wand and replace the housing stock in a few years. In any case, it's not a key determinant of fertility levels anyway.

Well yes haredis and maybe some other smallers groups are exception but haredis for example live very communal way of life and reject all modernity. They probably rarely leave the street they live in and mostly read torah at their homes with their family and relatives. it is like a small village lifestyle rather than urban lifestyle. In more secular people high density urban living leads to more individualism and isolation, people barely will know their neighbours and certainly not the people living in the same street it causes stress too, because people are wired to live in tribes of 200, seeing strangers all day will cause them stress which will lead to all kind of social problems like divorses, mental health problems, drug problems etc..

Even rats cant tolerate living in too dense places like John b Calhouns mice utopia studies show and their population always dies off. Same thing is happening everywhere around the world in dense cities, in Russia too. Haredis and some other groups can counter that living small village lifestyle in dense cities by not leaving their homestreets but secular people certainly cant do that.

And in Russia they keep building every year more dense apartment blocks because it is good business, but it certainly will doom russian fertility rate no matter how much “family values” propaganda they air in media.

  • Problem with russia though is that they build very dense multistorey commie blocks, and as we can see it leads to high divorse rate, high abortion rate and low fettility rate in cities.
Russia can promote family values as much they want in media but they still keep doing wrong things. Navalny btw opposes multistorey apartment buildings but they sent him to prison.

Meanwhile Russia has probably highest covid fatality rate, russians just dont give a shit so they dont even wear mask even though covid will fuck up their health. This is obviously not Putin’s fault, Russians are just too dumb even to take vaccine.

82% of those in the US who died with covid were over 65 years old according to the government's own numbers. Of those who died, many were actually killed because at the beginning of the epidemic they were put on ventilators which was the wrong treatment. Those younger individuals who died with covid all had serious co-morbidities. Only .2% of those who died were under 25. Long term effects of the gene therapy shot are unknown, with many well-credentialed scientists arguing it's very dangerous, and being suppressed. If clinics were calling pensioners urging them to come in for a shot, and it emerged that there were not enough shots for them, there would be a scandal. There were no such scandals, except a few months ago on highly temporary and local scales, so it is clearly not a supply issue. In any case, as I have repeatedly said and melanf and other Russians (who live in Russia, unlike Dmitry) have confirmed, there are multiple locations across Russian cities offering walk-in vaccinations, the problem is not excessive demand for them but that they are empty. This also explains why Sputnik is exported but doesn't produce a political scandal, which it certainly would if it impacted on domestic Russian supply; in any case, virtually all of the exports that have occured have been of the first dose of the Sputnik V, which is much easier to produce than the second.

Your pivot in response to this is bizarre accusations that the Kremlin is spreading anti-vaxx propaganda to constrain demand and that I (of all people) are helping them with it. In reality, as opposed to your fantasy world, there is a long-running propaganda campaign to spread awareness and encourage people to get the shot. I have attached a screenshot of Gosuslugi (the electronic state services website used by millions of Russians) shilling vaccinations, here is a poster (similar ones have been hanging in this location for months) just outside my apartment which I pass near every day.

    https://i.imgur.com/zjBK2t5.jpg

But it's funny (and telling) how your rage is focused against me specifically, as opposed to the sovok anti-vaxx conspiracy theorists and the West-worshipping liberasts who hate Sputnik just because it is Russian, and who actually dominate the anti-vaxx discourse in Russia. An example of the latter type, posted to /r/europe a few days ago:

Anecdotal experience of course, but I have a Russian friend. He's not sure to get vaccinated, but if he does it will categorically not be with Sputnik. He trusts the Russian vaccine the least.

There is some evidence. Even anecdotal evidence is evidence (“my friends and acquaintances who got ill” is certainly a sample, even if not necessarily a very representative sample, but why exclude that piece of evidence when you don’t have quality statistics?), and certainly hospitals seem to see the exact same anecdotes:

Those most recently in hospital in Bolton with Covid-19 coronavirus were “a lot younger” than in previous waves of the pandemic, an NHS boss has said.

    https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-news/delta-covid-variant-hotspot-seeing-20748024

Of course there is one confounding factor that now a lot of people are vaccinated, especially among the elderly, so maybe it just reflects this, but I would say that with the initial Wuhan numbers saying that no one in his twenties was killed, it just has to be more virulent. At least it just seems so in the absence of high quality statistical data.

As long as there’s nothing better you have to use anecdotal evidence, unless you have compelling reasons not to.

Early estimates of IFR=0.8% to 1% seem to remain to be valid for countries with European level of medical care and age demographic profile. I knew this lazy racist slur would inevitably come. But Iceland, whose school-age population is >95% white European, is doing extraordinarily poorly in PISA compared to the other Nordics. Are the Icelanders just dumber? What's the racist cope there?

More likely explanation: why would they bother with a test when their life is on easymode? Iceland's wealth basically comes from two sources: tourism and fishing. Neither is particularly human capital intensive, There are huge swathes of land for each inhabitant, so there's plenty of space. Land is also cheap. In such a low-pressure environment, does schooling really matter that much beyond the basics?

    What about New Zealand?

New Zealand's exports is mostly meat, milk, wood, fruits etc. In other words, agriculture and commodities. They also have very low population density with lots of cheap land. Very similar conditions in life. If you're a 15 year old in New Zealand, you'll know that you can get on fine by a leisurely pace in life. Why strain yourself?

Countries like Russia also rely on commodities, but per capita exports are far lower. Russia cannot lazily rely on low human capital exports to get rich; it needs to do very high-end exports, too. That's why it is poor: it has failed to do so sufficiently thus far in large quantities.

Iceland and New Zealand just doesn't need to, given their low population base. They are already rich with much less effort. So there's no pressure. Why wouldn't that attitude filter down to their kids? Life isn't always fair.
