RSSModern Times is my favorite book of all-time. Slight side note, but the chapter on the Third World, “The Bandung Generation” describes Obama to the tee. Made me realize in 2006-07 that we were in trouble.
I never knew pre-Rudy NYC – too young. But Manhattan of the early-mid 2000s (before the financial crisis) was the most amazing place. Always felt safe. Even girls would walk around by themselves at 2 in the morning. Plethora of things to do. Good times. I hear it’s different now though…. more diversity, more billionaires, more lawlessness. Not as much the ultimate post-college playground as it was back then. No way Rudy could win today with the current demographics of NYC.
Your comment is great except that the last sentence. Israel had no more interest in the US attacking Iraq and Afghanistan than the man in the moon. They realized immediately that attacking Iraq would turn the ME over to Iran (Israel’s true enemy), which is exactly what happened. Sharon, who was PM, was against Iraq from Day 1.
One of my biggest regrets is that when I was young, I was so naaive dumb and was beyond Gung Ho supporting George W. Bush. In hindsight, in my opinion, though Obama is literally an anti-American traitor, Bush was a worse president. After 9/11, he could have done literally anything with 100% agreement. Built a Wall. Overhauled Visa System. Cut immigration. Ended birthright citizenship. Ended Muslim immigration. Instead, he did the opposite. Around 9/11 was the last time we had a country and Bush blew it. All so his family could rule us like peasants.
Further, I hate to admit it, but in some ways, the Left was probably right about Bush. His advisors were incompetent and in over their heads (thanks for giving the whole Middle East to Iran, you boneheads!) and he probably really was trying to do favors for his buddies at Halliburton / avenge Saddam for trying to take out his Dad. I was too young to vote in 2000, but again, in hindsight, a then somewhat sane Gore might have been much, much, much better.
Trump is doing what he can, but he is basically 20 years too late. The Bushes desroyed the GOP, and frankly, the country.
Exactly right.
2020 Trump still has a good chance to win. But if doesn’t make major changes – deportations, birthright citizenship, drastically lowering legal immigration, the wall, regearing our immigration towards Europe, it’s all over by most likely 2024.
It takes a literal army to protect Johns Hopkins and to protect the institutional money managers still located in Baltimore….
It was a favorite for Southerners. They and Jews went their separate ways in 1948, when their marriage of convenience foundered on the rocky question of how to treat the help.Replies: @Jack D, @DodgUSA24, @Paleo Liberal
P.S. Any idea why Princeton is less attractive?
Biggest reason: Princeton is seen as primarily a WASP school. That’s not a problem, but why not go some place where Jews are seen as a significant % of the population?
Other reasons:
Unlike Harvard, Penn and Columbia, Princeton is not in a big city.
Regardless of the rankings, Princeton is considered slightly below Harvard and Yale.
Agree with this comment, re. Princeton and Dartmouth. In my experience, 100% true.
In a normal country (the US even in 2001), what Ricketts said would not be controversial in the slighest. Of course he’s 100% right. We must push back against the left that what he said was in any way wrong or inappropriate.
The US is doing everything to prevent this from happening. Many events and developments should be viewed through the lens of American attempts to sabotage Germany's aspiration for emancipation. Antagonization of Russia is really directed at Germany. Brexit is directed against Germany. Intermarum with countries like Poland is to put the wedge between Russia and Germany. Refugees are directed at Germany. Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank... affairs were shots across the bow.Replies: @DodgUSA24, @Opinionator
The secret of politics? Make a good treaty with Russia. (Otto von Bismarck)
The problem is that Germany was an enemy of the United States. Having a strong Germany forced America to fight two wars. The Germans probably aren’t coming back given their birthrate. Weirder things have happened, but the country is getting old and the people are now being replaced by the third world.
Big Bill:
I’m Jewish, and in America, I don’t want any Muslim settlers. I sympathize with the positions of the AfD toward Muslims, but title that one under, not my problem. In the United States, I support no Muslim immigration, Muslim repatriation, an end to the 1965 Immigration Act and an effective end to third world immigration. I would like to see the United States allow more European, Christian, Protestants to immigrate (they do still exist). Just like Israel brings in Jews to increase the majority, the USA should bring in Christians to increase the majority. But Germany is not my country. If Angela Merkel wants to be insane, that’s their problem.
Cohen almost certainly is for refugees coming into Israel, although he probably notes that Israel has just 9 million people. He is openly critical of Netanyahu and the Likud, although yes, people like Cohen are hypocrites.
As you correctly point out, the United States should copy Israel’s immigration policy to the tee. I, for one, would love to see it happen. Germany? Not my problem.
Excellent comment, Cwhatfuture.
It saddens me to think back to a movie like Bad News Bears 2 where they show Houston as an all-American city. Houston is now a multi-cultural hellhole with some balkanized areas of pre-1965 Americans.
I used to make fun of liberal cities like S.F. for using environmental law to restrict development. But the joke is on the red state cities like Houston. By completely opening up to any kind of development, Houston has been swamped with a massive non-American population. I don’t see a way back. SAD.
