RSS“If Protestant attitudes were really at the root of wokeness, shouldn’t we expect their attitudes and voting patterns to have telegraphed this transformation? But of course, Protestant Christians have consistently shown the most conservative attitudes on everything from desegregation to gay marriage.”
It should be pointed out that Mr. Woods is an Irishman who apparently doesn’t understand Protestantism or American culture because this statement is wildly out of sync with reality. The argument put forward by Mr. Sailer is that it is specifically Northern Protestantism that has birthed a perversion, and what you see in Northern Protestantism is exactly what you would expect. Northern Mainline Protestants are the most liberal significant religious group in America. Protestants are only considered conservative on average because of how conservative Southern Evangelical Protestants are, and how many of them there are relative to Northern Mainline Protestants, who have lost many numbers due to increasing secularism in the North and in the country generally.
The abolitionist movement of the 19th Century absolutely was the origin of the “woke” movement and this dismissal of Mr. Woods (“And when we talk about wokeism, it’s obviously the 20th Century that really matters”), is preposterous and completely baseless.
Mr. Woods writes, “It was later in the 20th Century, with the rise of Boasian anthropology, and especially the rise of a new, Jewish-dominated elite in the 1960s in critical areas of American life like the social sciences and the media, that the character of progressivism changed to adopt the characteristics of wokeism today: blank-slatism, anti-white enmity, pluralism, relativism, sexual liberation etc.”
None of these things are true. These things originated with the Lincoln administration and the Radical Republicans. The Gettysburg Address lays out blank-slatism clearly and explicitly (“[O]ur fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”). Anti-white enmity was glaringly apparent in the barbaric, passionately hateful anti-white actions of Sherman’s army, for example, in the burning of Columbia, but also in the actions and attitudes of the Union throughout the war. Pluralism was inserted into the Constitution through the Reconstruction amendments. Relativism was espoused by the atheist Abraham Lincoln, who said, ““When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That’s my religion.” And the first instance of legalization of prostitution in the US was done by the Union during the war because of how bad the sexual immorality had gotten among Northerners.
Of course Jews preyed on the vulnerabilities in American culture, like the vultures they often have been while they have remained unrepentant, but it is simply not true to say they are the origin of the insanity we see in America today. The culture war is between the Northern heresy and the Southern orthodoxy, and Jews just take advantage of the situation as it is.
It is infuriating as a Founding Stock American, to see Jews, Italians, Irishmen, and a million other randoms bickering about nonsense when they don’t know anything about this country, its history, and its culture.
