RSS1. Your daughter just turned 16. You should:
A.) Throw her a sweet sixteen party.
B.) Ensure that her SAT prep is advanced enough to help her with college admissions.
C.) Mutilate her genitals.
D.) Have her get a job to teach her the value of money and to start saving for her first car.
Maybe the steveosphere can help here.
Let’s say there’s a municipal election this November in a small East Coast town with high property taxes, a very good school system, 85% white, and an incumbent Democrat mayor whom a Republican is trying to beat. The traditional GOP anti-tax platform may not work, according to the article, because the upper middle class white majority has chosen to live in this town and pay high taxes to avoid schools full of NAMs and thus unconsciously accepts their high tax bill as a barrier to entry to the community. (Let’s assume another reason it won’t work is there’s a 2% cap that a portly gentleman in our capital legislated a few years back.) My own experience seems to bear out this strange but not strange acceptance of taxes.
Therefore, with the understanding that the BOE and town hall are separate entities creating separate budgets, what strategy could a GOP candidate use to win an election without falling into the “your taxes are too high” “yeah but our schools and good and white” death spiral?
I would be grateful for serious suggestions.
Is that so bad? Why does the Dem need to pushed out of office?

So we hear about Obama’s new African trail of tears through Central America the same week he takes Jackson off the twenty. Beautiful.
OT but The Atlantic has a piece up about why crime has declined in the US, a common Steve topic.
OT but this is something Steve has covered:

Blockbusting still happens in NJ. Lakewood is an Orthodox Jewish town with voting blocs big enough so that they, directed by their leaders, can swing close gubernatorial elections whichever way they want. It’s politically untouchable. And recently, after bankrupting the local public schools in favor of their religious ones, Orthodox have been walking into next door town Toms River and blockbusting there using “intense, incessant and intimidating direct solicitations” of real estate. The plan is clearly to scare enough people into moving to produce goy flight. It’s an ugly, ugly situation that’s only going to get worse.

OT: A new study called Rising Tide II: Do Black Students Benefit as Grad Rates Increase was released yesterday. It’s all about closing that gap!
Even left-leaning PIX11 News noticed that the rally in New York yesterday failed to get its anti-Trump message across…though it did succeed in proving yet again that this is an Isteve world through which the rest of us are just passing, ie the unraveling of the coalition of the fringes. The last 30 seconds of this piece are pure comedy gold. Best line, “it’s anti-Bush AND anti-Obama.”
OT but the Coens are getting mau-maued over the lack of diversity in their movies:
The answer to this is simple. High school graduation has been made easier, so we simply need to make college requirements easier to ensure comparable graduation rates and job placement.
If high school graduates need only to read at an 8th grade level, base a bachelors’ degree on a 12th grade reading level. Then an advanced degree like an MBA or JD can be earned by completing bachelors’-level qualifications. If standards are lower across the board, life will be easier for everyone. And why shouldn’t life be made easier?
The worst that can happen is that new books and movies may be a lot like old books and movies, and some of our bridges may not be as fancy or solid as older ones, but that’s a tradeoff I’ll make for an easier life.
Terrorists are proportionately just a very small fraction of Muslim immigrants. We need Steve’s immigration screw-up analysis board because in my experience all too many are closer to this:

or this:
Graham Greene wonderfully captured the haphazard world of spycraft in Our Man in Havana, in which a lowly vacuum cleaner salesman gets recruited to spy for the Brits in Cuba. Things go haywire in a most comical fashion. Well worth reading, and the movie (with Ernie Kovacs) is decent, too.
Howard Dean tried making the exact same case during his Presidential bid, too. Back then the racial response was more muted.
Between the timely reemergence of Raspail and October’s publication of Submission, can we stop making French jokes and admit that again their cynical Gallic philosophy has again triumphed while Anglo pomp and theory have failed?
Even at this point, it’s probably too late for the EU. A nation’s will doesn’t pivot on a dime.
When it comes to immigration, a rising tide carries more boats.
You need to think up a term for that Ireland example, pronto. This is a real THING that needs a term that sticks in peoples’ minds. “Merchadism”? I dunno, too vague. Isteve minds, get cracking.
Didn’t something similar happen among the Aztecs?
Back in the early 1950’s, mens mags had ads from a place called the Perfect Voice Institute at 210 S Clinton St in Chicago, which claimed it could teach you (by mail) to have a “he-man voice.”
This will be just like a crosstown bus here in New York! I can literally outwalk the M23 during the day, to my endless amusement.
Dear Sailer, You are smart man about greatness of Putin. As American in Kansas I thank strong leader of Russia for keeping world safe. Putin also love golf course architecture. You are welcome.
Bob Simon was killed the same way in Manhattan a few months back. Immigrant driver with a poor record, no seat belt.
Questionable science is always dragged out to explain away deficiencies in their cultural worldview. Recall how after Mel Gibson’s anti-Semitic tirade there was a bunch of psychologists brought out to claim, “When you’re drunk you’re really speaking from your soul.” As any woman at last call would undoubtedly confirm…
Most subversive line in the story:
“said Phil Gassoway, 35, a 10-year Ferguson resident and college student.”
I’m guessing it’s not for a PhD.
Engaged man decides to give up his collection of adult mags at the behest of his new fiancee.
“I now realize, thanks to the willful love of a strong woman, that these pictures degrade women and that they have no place in a responsible man’s life. Thus I am throwing out my collection of 2700 magazines and deleting 16 terabytes of them from my computers.”
It’s funny how even Trevor Noah’s name is reminiscent of the half-black, half-Jewish kid Meadow briefly dated on the Sopranos, Noah Tannenbaum. That episode where Tony confronts him had a lot of funny and perceptive things to say about modern privileged mulattos.
But now at least we know why World War CR (campus rape) has been in the news so much lately. Unlike WWT, WWCR will energize soccer moms and tuition dads, and the Republicans have no response. If I had the money to bet I’d say WWT will be used to push Hillary to the left until the primaries, at which point it wanes and the NY Times starts finding a Haven every Sunday.
