  • Looks like on the immigration graph, the arrow is misplaced. Trump was president through Jan 19 of 2021, and the arrow is placed at the start of the covid pandemic in March or so of 2020.

Naomi Klein, a leftist, wrote “The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism,” which explored the idea that natural disasters are used to advance the interest of the powerful, coordinated, and long-term-minded investor-class. She argues that a disaster induces several things: the immediate migration of people away from the point of disaster leaving land uninhabited, a media-led description of suffering that demands that the government “do something” right away and that no amount of money be spared to do so, and finally a corporation that will step in to address all of these problems: they will accept unlimited amounts of money today to promise to end the suffering tomorrow, they will also accept an unprecedented degree of help from the political class in changing law to expedite their “solution,” all the while laying stake to a claim on the land and property abandoned by those who fled.

Though a leftist, some on the right would see echoes of this in the governmental response to covid: dump billions on Moderna, JnJ, Bio-N-Tech to develop vaccines, which are urgently needed (but not urgently enough so that research can’t be halted before the 2020 presidential election so-as not to boost Trump). Also, rewrite the electoral laws in almost every state, and push those changes through bypassing the state legislature in the name of expediency.

Trump and his party have put enormous focus on immigration and on President Biden’s handling of the border as the election draws closer

Fair, but I have a minor, semantic quibble, one which reflects on the pro-Democrat paradigm of mainstream "news" and electioneering.

You don't "handle" a border like a pilot "handles" a 707 or a bull rider "handles" a bull. You just enforce it. Period. Whatever you think of America, the border is there, or at least it's supposed to be. I don't care if you're a socialist or a finance capitalist: We start with a border that people can cross on very specific business with very specific paperwork and then they go back. Full stop. (Remember, legal immigration, assuming we want any, does not really take place at the "border": It involves filing in paperwork, followed by entry, usually through an airport.)

Sure, there could be policy differences - "handling" issues - in terms of whether we shoot invaders or not, but there is no "handling" going on with this administration. It's just an all out war to get as many people in as possible until the optics get too bad, and even then add another 10 million.

You can handle a crisis. You can judge how well Biden is handling the border crisis.

The phrasing works, but for the dropping of a critical word.

Yeah, my point is a little squishy.

But what I'm getting at is that this alleged "crisis" is entirely created by the government Biden nominally heads. It's not like it's an organized invasion by Genghis Khan's horsemen (or tank divisions) gathering on the border. That's an external crisis which needs to be "handled" and that handling should be the subject of criticism or praise depending on how it works.

The Biden Regime has created a situation - "chaos" they might call it when they get round to actually acknowledging its existence - and now they're going on about how our "Republican friends" are refusing to work with the Regime to eliminate that "chaos" by waiving just about everyone in in a more orderly fashion.

  • So, hey, do you all remember that time that Trump ran for president and lots of people hated him and said bad things about him? And then he won the presidency, and for four years, those same people still hated him and said bad things about him? And how after another three years those same people STILL hated him and said bad things about him? And how only then, heading into the primaries, every major news organization reported on how EVERYBODY believes that Trump smells using anonymous sources? And how strange it was that nobody ever noticed this in the past 9 years, but all of a sudden, it became THE biggest news story IN THE WORLD? And of these anonymous sources, there were loads of them who all decided on the same day to speak off the record to various media companies about this saying not that he has occasional BO, but that rather say “I’ve heard from a reliable source, that Trump smells of soiled diapers, Axe Body Spray and hotdog burps.” And how after that day, nobody ever talked anymore about any smells?

That was really weird. It’s funny how this can gain traction but the numerous public appearances of Biden looking and acting in no way like a competent head of state can’t.

Old Video Resurfaces Of Trump Saying Presidential Candidates Under Indictment ‘Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Run’
    June 2, 2024

As Donald Trump resists calls to drop out of the presidential race, old video footage has resurfaced showing him saying that any presidential candidate who is under a federal criminal indictment “shouldn’t be allowed to run.”

A social media post from MSNBC anchor Joy Reid reminded everybody of Trump’s penchant for self-serving hypocrisy following his criminal conviction last week after a New York City jury returned a guilty verdict for all 34 counts in a criminal trial in which he was accused of illegally paying hush money to a porn star via illegal means for political purposes.

Just days before the 2016 presidential election – and days after then-FBI Director James Comey announced the reopening of a federal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified documents on her private email server – Trump fearmongered during one of his infamous rallies about the prospects of the Democratic nominee winning that year’s presidential election.

Trump – who was earlier this year found guilty of fraud and still faces two more criminal cases – suggested that Clinton could end up under federal criminal indictment and said the prospects of having a president under such legal scrutiny, including a possible “criminal trial,” would have a devastating effect on the United States, particularly governmentally.

“If she were to win this election, it would create an unprecedented constitutional crisis. In that situation, we could very well have a sitting president under felony indictment and ultimately a criminal trial,” Trump said to groans from the audience. “It would grind government to a halt. She shouldn’t be allowed to run.”

He laughs at the white dupes that thought themselves able to trust a “fellow white man.” He has a well-organized coterie of investors that can provide him with nearly unlimited funding, and he can organize with them in secret to act in a coordinated manner to achieve maximum effect.

    https://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/wp-content/uploads/satevepost/Confessions-of-a-Block-Buster.pdf

This person was most probably Mark J Satter, a Jew. He blockbusted white neighborhoods to acquire property at below-market rates, he lent to blacks to buy the properties at over-market-value, and he repossessed the properties when blacks failed to pay their mortgages, and acquired the properties for himself and his investors, then became an urban slum lord. He posed as white, screwed over blacks and whites alike, and is now remembered today as a “civil rights activist.”

The second part of this saga is his daughter who now is earning money off of publishing the memoirs of her father, a “civil rights activist.” She writes that “the ghettos of America’s largest cities are the consequence of large impersonal economic forces,” blaming the damage to black families on redlining. There actually are a number of examples of indigenous science, in both traditional and modern ways.

Long, so I’ll use the more tag

Traditional: Although non-Western peoples never had something exactly like our modern science, over many millennia people learned quite a bit.

Even the most primitive societies knew X mushroom kills you but Y mushroom is very tasty.
Taking it further, the medicine men of a number of cultures found healing herbs. Sometimes this was centuries or millennia of trial and error.
Major pharmaceutical companies have sent their agents to get knowledge of healing herbs to make into profitable medicines.

Indigenous peoples in the US have had land use practices, including controlled burning, for millennia. The land use practices of Native Americans could have prevented at least some of the wildfires we have experienced in recent years.

Indigenous peoples often understand the wildlife they hunt better than modern scientists. One example is when Inuit whale hunters were temporarily forbidden to hunt whales because scientists thought the whale population was declining more than it really was. The Inuit said differently and were correct.

Those are all situations where modern scientists are leveraging millennia of folk knowledge.

Some non-western societies were more advanced than western science until relatively recently. Of course China with gunpowder and a printing press, among other things. Or India and later the Muslim empire with more advanced mathematics. Or the Mayans with astronomy and acoustics. Those societies had their traditional healing methods, as did pre-modern Europe. It turns out chicken soup really is good for you.

Modern: Some indigenous people have become modern western scientists, and some are quite well respected. Consider that a handful of PhDs are earned by indigenous people every year, and that some of these PhDs are quite bright. I personally have met tenured science professors at prestigious universities who have numerous publications. True, most of these are mostly white professors who have native ancestry. But there are some dark skinned indigenous scientists I have met who are quite brilliant.

One example is when Inuit whale hunters were temporarily forbidden to hunt whales because scientists thought the whale population was declining more than it really was.

It seems more common that disagreements of this type are motivated by either the desire to continue to practice cultural traditions, or sometimes, to profit at the expense of others. Not by the application of scientific method, data collection, and reason– or even by some non-Western facsimile of such methods.

For example, there was the 2020 Mi’kmaq lobster dispute, where First Nations people in Canada wanted the right to harvest lobster for commercial sale out of season. Or the events depicted in “the Orchid Thief,” where a white man was put on trial for hiring a Seminole to harvest endangered species of orchids for him.

Watch out though, I think some corporate conservatives could get behind this line of thinking– by hiring a team of indigenous scientists and paying them big bucks to revisit the issue of anthropogenic global warming– possibly coming up with a conclusion based on indigenous ways of knowing that is more accurate than what all these so-called climate scientists think.

So far as modern science can demonstrate, the Blacks! in Africa are the only actual indigenous people anywhere.

Everyone else, it is said, came "out of Africa" and no surviving humanoids appear to have developed anywhere else.

Everyone else is an immigrant, though some were First Arrivals to uninhabited places.

Being "first" somewhere isn't much. Being strongest and smartest when you show up is.

Being "first" doesn't give a population any special scientific insights. Later arrivals, such as Whites, quickly picked up the habits and plant cures of the locals by observation. That sometimes took a while but success is a great teacher, no matter how or who comes up with that.

There are still plenty of primitive hunter-gather small populations around the world in remote places. There is no hard evidence that other than avoiding bad habits (smoking, drugs, drink, obesity, etc.) that they are any healthier than anyone else. Quite the contrary.

Early death from childbirth, disease, accidents and poor diet is common. In some remote places like Borneo and New Guinea death from tribal/clan warfare is quite high.

Universities know that the supreme court may rule soon on the legality of use of race to make admissions decisions. Both prestigious undergrad institutions and med schools have been electively declaring that they will no longer submit GPA and test scores to US News and World Report and other groups that rank colleges. This means that there is no longer a penalty to an elite college for admitting applicants with less-than-elite GPAs and MCAT scores, or SATs.

But if GPA and MCAT becomes less important, what is becoming more important?

    I. “No, just the opposite. It’s been going on for a while, but now critical race theory is being baked into the structure of everything.”

It’s been going on for generations.

Affirmative action began, as Steven Farron argued in The Affirmative Action Hoax, during the 1950s.

For but one infamous example, beginning in 1951, an intellectual mediocrity and cheat with a “C” average from segregated Morehouse College, who was unqualified and unfit for the life of the mind, was accepted by White grad schools that expected White applicants to have “A” averages. His obvious plagiaries were ignored.

With the 1964 U.S. Civil Rights Act, affirmative action was radically expanded. American higher ed was flooded with unfit black “students,” “scholars,” and “staffers.”

In the early 1970s, black supremacist “students” (aa admits) demanded and got departments of black studies, which trafficked in fraudulent scholarship, and whose faculty gave racist “students” As for blackness.

feminazis imitated the black supremacists, made their own demands, and got their own departments. (Later came militant homosexualists, and then sexual psychopaths.)

Politicized grading and grade discrimination were institutionalized.

    , @Nicholas Stix
    @ARandomHuman

II. All sorts of fake scholarship ensued. A conspiracy of powerful, White “males” was blamed for causing “more work for mother.” A desire for law and order was condemned as “blaming the victim.” Same-sex marriage, we were told, had been institutionalized by the Medieval, Catholic Church. Black crime wasn’t to blame for prisons full of blacks, “racial profiling” and “mass incarceration” were.

In Howard Pollock’s 1999 Aaron Copland biography, Aaron Copland: The Life and Work of an Uncommon Man, Pollock wasted an entire chapter respectfully discussing “queer theory,” by the likes of Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick.

Kalinak acted as if it were a given that John Ford, actually a racial liberal, had been a White supremacist.

We now hear about violence, or the threat thereof, at places like stanford law, but I was writing about violence at the community college level, during the 1990s.

I got many articles published, mostly under the pseudonym “Robert Berman,” but no one would publish my higher ed book.

In 2000, a literary agent told me my book proposal contained “a little too much reality.”

III. The republican principle for writing on anything is the importance of being ignorant.

Well-to-do, well-connected neocons, by contrast, had no problem getting reams published on a “thing” by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, “Jane Austen and the Masturbating Girl.” Worthless books, too.

For over 30 years, republicans and self-styled “conservatives” have chuckled behind closed doors about “political correctness,” and written of “Gramsci’s long march through the institutions,” but who held the door open for the communists? Who gave them ever more money? Both Bushes, each speaking of his desire to be known as “the education president,” increased education spending more than the dpusa did. I have been pointing out to friends when discussing politics that if you follow liberal thinking to it's logical conclusion, if nations and borders are artificial constructs and democracy is sacred, there's no reason the people of the world can't legitimately help themselves to everything you own...and smash up the rest, if it offends them.

It goes without saying that whites won't confer any of the benefits of being a 'minority group' in this scenario.

Yes, a hammer to cathedral windows– that would be awful. Or even worse yet, a torch those cathedrals. Imagine if someone were to burn down, say, Notre Dame? What a loss that would be!

  • Calling black people “rampaging youths” is funny. But I wish they would just call them – you know – the n-word. Tragic, pathetic. The store owner (probably an immigrant from some non-Black country) was 100% right. If it wasn't for our overlords preventing us from enforcing our laws, these ignorant savages wouldn't have a chance against White wrath. They seem to be constitutionally incapable of working together and supporting their own community. Hence the fights in the parking lot. And maybe, just maybe, if we had our so-called "White supremacy" back, a larger proportion of them would learn discipline and live honest, productive lives.

In the US, immigrant Africans from the same geographic areas that supplied the trans-Atlantic slave trade look down on this sort of nonsense.

Somehow, coming from a place that has far less wealth, opportunity, and basically no social safety net to speak of provides a certain perspective missing from our native-born population of African descent.

It used to be that most Apefrican Americans were sourced from West Africa, from what is now Nigeria and Ghana but also substantial numbers even from Namibia.

Having noted that, it is hard to see what basis the new arrivals from Apefrica have for looking down their noses at the behavior of legacy Apefricans. After all, it is hardly the case that their home countries are crime-free.

To take one example, at 21.99 per 100,00, Nigeria today has a third highest murder rate in the world, after Honduras and El Salvador.

Of course, the modern Apefrican immigrant may be comparing his home country with Chicago, where the murder rate in 2020 was 28.6 per 100,000, but Nigeria is still a cesspool of murder, rape, robbery and theft.

Political instability, citizen alienation, terrorism and violence define the Nigerian crime scene. Nigeria has recently been included among the countries with the least peace in the world, according to the Global Peace Index. It is the 18th less peaceful state. In addition, Nigeria is the sixth country most affected by terrorism, based on the Global Terrorism Index.

One further serious threat in Nigeria is the risk of mass killing, or genocide. Nigeria is the second country in Africa with the highest risk of genocide and the sixth worldwide. This risk is influenced by a population of over 200 million people, a high child mortality rate, ongoing battle-related deaths, the country's own history of mass killing, and its ethnic fractionalization.

There is no difference between the new Apefrican-Americans and the old ones.

And let's not even start on the Somalis, Congolese, etc.

And both conservatives and liberals theorized that their children would be different.

That was predicted in Minnesota. Conservatives told us that Somali Muslim values would somehow rub off on the natives.

Well it didn't happen. Somali youff started their own gangs to compete against the Bantu:

    So there goes that theory.

A former boyfriend of mine lived on Martha’s Vineyard. Some points seem missing in the news coverage. The Vineyard is not a “sanctuary city” or a town, it is an island. It has the highest cost of living of any county in America, considering the median household income in light of the cost of living. There is virtually no affordable housing; this is a real problem and the topic of endless discussion here. There are indeed wealthy summer visitors, but most people who live here work hard and earn modest incomes. Much work is seasonal, and most seasonal jobs end in September.

In other words, if Governor DeSantis wanted to send immigrants to a place they could live, find work, and thrive, it would have been difficult to find a poorer choice. If he were interested in a cheap political stunt, he was successful.

    Just pure evil.

These refugees need housing, medical care, food, clothing, education, jobs, and some discretionary money.

As far as Massachusetts goes, Martha’s Vineyard is one of the least densely populated areas until you get to the far western hinterlands of the state. There should be plenty of space to let them live.

As far as wealth goes, Martha’s Vineyard should be the most easily able to provide these things. But, apparently, for an island of 17 thousand people, with a population density of 1 person per four acres, accommodating 50 refugees is too much to ask.

Not to mention, that it is one of the most wealthy places in our country, and thus most able to support a mere 50 people.

I do not understand what you are calling evil, and I don’t understand what is good.

Is it good when the most privileged among us refuse to care for a mere 50 people, but obligate the poorest of Americans to welcome, host and care for people in similar situations by the million?
