As the kids might say, we'll just leave this right here: For contemporary relevance and to avoid racial and sexual orientation confounding, responses are restricted to non-Hispanic whites from 2000 onward who have not engaged in same-sex relations. Incels don't do too well. Celibate women, more of whom are likely to be voluntarily so (volcels?),...
  • @EliteCommInc.
    @Audacious Epigone

You think a woman being informed that unless she was forced into a relational dynamic, her choice her consequences would make matters worse. I disagree. (barring the murder of children) I suspect that there would be a lot less careless relational behavior.

    Replies: @A.B. Prosper

    True.

I think the best approach would be to make male custody default in all cases where there isn’t abuse desertion or the like. An male can contest custody with a DNA test and except in certain situations where he knows the kids aren’t his and agrees up front , this means he doesn’t have to care for them

This reduces cuckoldry by a huge margin

In the event the woman is not married or engaged at the time of pregnancy and the male parent can’t be had , she doesn’t get custody as the law assumes a woman who has an out of wedlock birth is categorically unfit to be a mother.

This would basically stop baby daddies in most cases since no one wants to spend the next 18 years on a child support beef and it would make sure women and men use protection without interfering much in personal relations

The best effect would be a huge reduction in single parenting. This won’t be policy though on account of female voters and frankly even if this could happen, the results would be as much as a 30% fertility decline. This would cause a massive freakout in the government as the TFR would hit around 1.2 overall, 1.1 for Whites which is Japan level and a growth and looting based economy wouldn’t be able to tolerate that

    My position is more linear.

I would like to see and end to murdering children in the womb. I think the practice is unconstitutional at best and a form of blatant genocide to the God of self worship and convenience.

And my position with regard to relations and conception -- is premised on a woman's demand that she is an agent of her own choices. That means she can no longer blame men for the consequences of a mutually agreed upon tryst.

In the event the woman is not married or engaged at the time of pregnancy and the male parent can’t be had , she doesn’t get custody as the law assumes a woman who has an out of wedlock birth is categorically unfit to be a mother.

Au contraire. A man who impregnated a woman and then fails to propose marriage is categorically unfit to be a parent, as is a woman who is impregnated by a man and refuses to marry him.

That said in order for middle American to get power, they have to want it first. They really don’t and other than the anti abortion movement just want to be left alone and to not take responsibility for anything

Hell people barely want marriage or kids , the later they haven’t wanted much in near fifty years

An actual correction whether by lead or by some other means requires a will to power that people lack. This almost certainly includes our President who just wants an America for his kids where his style of business can work and maybe a feather in his cap

That isn’t the kind of ruthless mindset required to make a nation bow to a will.

Some is tech, the Internet has rendered a lot of media like C.D. and D.V.D.’s obsolete taking out many of the associated jobs.

Some is cultural, with low marriage rates and incredibly low fertility, all the business associated with that get hit hard. I’ve seen very nice synthetic sapphire jewelry on sale for $30 bucks. The hell of that is not affordable for many

There are other things, drugs being a big one, inflation is larger than most see but the bulk of the rest is simple poverty, wages have been pushed low but housing hasn’t been allowed to fall

It should not take 100 hours of work to afford a one bedroom apartment at minimum wage . The normal custom was full time minimum wage for a week gets you an efficiency . That’s around $280-$480 in theory, problem is the efficiency is $700 in cheap California . More in cities where the jobs are.

This plus school debt means no babies. Even the Latino TFR is low at 1.8

The thing about this is that the usual money printing shenanigans the people in charge won’t work to paper over anything and sooner than later , the house of cards will bite it.

It amuses me how military spending is always set apart from all other sorts of government spending, and how the military is never considered to be a form or manifestation of government.

FDR wasn't allowed by congress and the courts to achieve full employment through civilian New Deal programs like the CCC. He probably wanted to, but they frustrated him.

His maneuvering us into WW II was probably motivated at least in part to this: He knew war would enable him to achieve full employment by repositioning all those rural and agricultural workers that the collapse of the rural farming economy had made economically obsolete. That's what the Depression was, a re-calibration of the economy away from small farming toward industrialization, a forcible shift of the population (by way of foreclosure) of rural labor into urban/suburban work.

The massive collapse in demand that that shift created short circuited the production cycle, and is called the Great Depression.

WW II achieved FDR's goal of using government power to employ everyone in spades. But it wasn't socialist: it was achieved by massive government spending on oligarchic capitalism. That's the dirty unbroadcast semi-secret about our government - it's not socialist, it's oligarchic. FDR wasn't a socialist, but an oligarch.

WW II took the national debt to 120% of GDP by 1945, and put all those dispossessed, unemployed farm boys back to work, reinflating the cycle of production and consumption, and dumped a whole lot of tax money into the hands of the capitalists. The subsequent massive expansion of the economy burned that debt away almost immediately, and proved that Keynes was in fact right. Welcome to the military industrial complex.

The New Deal and the subsequent baby boom were bubbles. They lasted a while do to US economic primacy but by 1973 US fertility dropped below replacement where it has been since.

And you can’t blame ‘social change’ for all of it, most of the US did not have easy divorce , easy to get birth control pills, or easy to get abortion in that year. It was also almost entirely White and the numbers have stayed loosely the same.

Long and short the urban transition had the same effect that cities always do, making it too expensive and less socially desirable to have a family

Long term though if we can reduce and reverse immigration, this won’t matter.

    No they won't.

Left liberals will be outbred by competing groups who do not subscribe to the same ideas. Hindus, Muslims, Africans, etc. Hindu arranged marriages have a ton of advantages, in addition to their practice of pooling money as extended families and living in multi-generational households.

The left wing 'explore myself and the world' types will simply die out, since they won't be able to compete with groups that have 4 kids per woman.

In short, my argument is that this reproductive strategy is suboptimal in competition with groups that favor maximal reproductive output.

Also, Islam will bring back that patriarchy with a vengeance.

Globally all TFR falls once societies become urbanized and reach a certain minimum standard of living. This even includes Africa though the demographic transition is slower there

It was predicted by Marx pushing two centuries ago and we are living it.

This doesn’t mean that Communism either in its “central planning” aspect or its theoretical late stage anarchic form will work.

What’s needed probably is the elimination of scale to some degree, no corporations or large unmanageable enterprises .allowed . Individuals or a small groups are always liable

Optionally we can try distributionism and rig the incentives to domestic wages and jobs.

This would require a much less onerous state as its mainly a tax policy issue but either require a populous regime , probably a non Democratic one.

What isn’t working now though it ameliorates the effects of global capitalism a little is Social Democracy . Its however growing far too expensive for its effects and after 1972 or so, over the last forty years below replacement fertility has followed in its wake.

Upside of the later I guess as eventually every single nation achieves this is that it corrects. As the population shrinks and very well may grow dumber , the technology that creates the problem may well go away

This means in his mind immigration needs to be legal of of decent quality.

This is a foolish view IMO the only immigration that makes any sense for Americans is negative but the lust for lower wages has basically created a situation where that is not politically doable.

This is the prime cause of more than 2 generations of low fertility with no end in sight along with the attendant dysfunction caused by mass immigration

Still as the world population all reaches at or below replacement, even immigration will not be an option. This will not result in lower wages, the Country Club/Chamber of Commerce types would rather see the US burn than budge slightly understandable if wicked as wages would have to nearly double or housing decline a huge amount for things to pencil out

The end result of civic nationalism could be a civil war but certainly will be that the US is a no longer industrialized and prosperous . we already see this with L.A. getting ready to take carpet out of city hall to prevent a typhus outbreak from the rats they can no longer control along with rotting infrastructure.

Nothing President Trump can do will be able to fix any of this though at least he can buy time and with the fertility decline, less people in the future means less poverty anyway

Yet another thing to consider - what kinds of people would want to live on the Moon or on Mars? I don't see psychologically health normal people wanting to so. The sorts of people who want to raise families. Would you seriously want to raise kids in such a place?

So the colonists will most likely be embittered loners, sad losers and libertarians. Of course the idea of all the libertarians deciding to depart en masse for Mars does have a certain appeal.

But the point is that the people who would be interested in starting a new life in the Off-World Colonies are not the sorts of people likely to build stable successful societies.

    Replies: @Barbarossa, @A.B. Prosper

It won’t be Heinlein’s Libertarian Pioneers that colonize space.

Living on the Moon or Mars would be roughly like living in a maximum security prison or police state. One mistake could kill everyone so you get no freedom at all. On top of that you need highly intelligent and capable people who want to be in a prison and raise kids in one for reasons

You can assume percentage of women will be very low since normally women hate being colonists and the colony won’t be wealthy or a nice place to live.

Given the troubles terrestrial colonies had getting people, I mean Louisiana rounded up women from mental hospitals and prisons to send to the colony , you can assume great difficulty finding smart, compliant , trustworthy ,adventurous and healthy people for a space colony

This will be even harder if the population keeps declining. 1.6 TFR across all developed nations with no end in site is a radically different structure than 60’s USA with a TFR of 3

Getting fertility up will require huge economic changes , steady as in life time well remunerated work and a lower status for women . Given automation much less culture, its not going to happen

The paradox is any society that can make a space colony has little demand for labor do to automation and a correspondingly low birth rate or is heavily socialized in which case most resources are spent on welfare. Its too broke to do this kind of thing which costs trillions. It can also go broke from demand starvation and assuming a revolt doesn’t end up Pol Pot 2.0 it will be a poor backwater

Its not a coincidence the US was wealthy and had high fertility and demand for labor when we went to the moon and its not a coincidence that as soon as the computer took off, the 80’s and wages went down (half the percentage GDP as in 1973 as of 2017 or so ) the space program went with it

Demography made this infinitely worse but even of the US somehow had the demography of 1960, its moot. No money, no babies, no babies, no colonies

China maybe could do it if they harvest enough resources in Africa and hoard them but again they have a fertility and trust issues.

Not a single even partially developed nation has above replacement fertility among its high IQ population and Elon Musk aside recent immigrants and future immigrants lack the requisite traits

Its unlikely any nation will be in a fast recovery phase ever. Stats obviously don’t work this way but at current fertility rates in 200 years most US people will be descendants from and quite possibly practicing Amish!

  • @APilgrim
Mars, the moon, and several other moons in our solar system can be colonized.

There is a lot of real estate.

    Replies: @dfordoom, @A.B. Prosper

No they cannot be colonized as they lack air, water, arable land and we lack a surplus population in any case.

There are no existing societies anywhere that can maintain the level of stability required for such a project nor can they allocate resources over along enough term.

In any case once the African and Middle Eastern fertility issues resolve, the population of the Earth with actually decline. The entire developed world has a TFR of around 1.6-1.8, heck Brazil is there the less developed is approaching 2 and the least developed are very slowly coming along.

Some Islamic societies like Morocco and Turkey are already there.

Long term this decline will probably avert the worst of the Malthusian scenarios and lead to a gradual population decline not a catastrophe.

Thus far no society anywhere entering this cycle has ever gotten out of it but its only been an issue for a couple of generations so who knows . My guess is that once the social carrying capacity is reached, we have jobs enough for all and cheap enough land, it will stabilize at a smaller number, maybe 200 million or less for the US

This still mostly urban population will not produce any space pioneers nor surplus wealth for such things.

I’ll note also that of the most fertile groups, the highest fertility is among the Amish with various Orthodox , Evangelical and LDS groups as well

Its quite possible the longer term, in theory a coupe of centuries will be prefaced with technological decline as highest natal group prefers 1719 over 2219

In that case space is a no go.

How soon this will occur I do not know, no one does . My guess is that it will probably be up to the president that follows Putin as its a decade maybe two or even three out

    Hey ABP,

On the whole, I agree with most of your points, just a few comments...

This should tell you something about our economy.

It also says something about the current culture which is beyond the economy. A nice White guy reports to me in our IT Dept. I know he makes enough to start up a modest family, but is pretty satisfied with being childless and makes it known. My sister-in-law married a guy (both White) who made it clear he wanted no kids (of course he cheated on and divorced her) and now she is too old to contemplate having more than one kid - and every year, her chances decrease exponentially. Many advice columns I peruse often have letters that start, "I love my boy/girl friend and want to marry, but he/she doesn't want children..." There is something seriously malfunctioning in native White culture irrespective of other races.

We could handle fairly secular Persians fine

Secular Persians have the same genetic dead-end problems - they are living on borrowed time. I lived around UCLA where these people abound - they are not having many kids either. And I'm not even going to touch how many of them are living the 'gay dream'.

But, I agree, if the US wants to keep immigration open, it needs to be highly selective, I mean very selective, like a top-tier university selective.

and have yet to find any leaders

Agreed, Dr. Paul was the last statesman America had in office, in my opinion, he was not perfect - but man, was he principled.

The few new nations that make it, probably homogenized and highly Conservative won’t be Imperial at least outside CONUS or Neo Conservative in any way shape or form.

That seems to be the pattern, unless a nation can figure out how to unite various people under one ideological vision, with one ethnic group as the alphas - Singapore seems to be an example (though on a small scale). The days of empires being worth it seem to be over, they are a pain to maintain and don't bring prestige, but rather condemnation.

    Peace.

You are absolutely spot on in your analysis. In the end, the Russians (if they are smart) will have the superior gene pool. All Russia needs to do is have lots of babies, eschew Western culture of drugs, alcohol, prozac, tobacco, multiculturalism and solipsism and the future is hers.

  • A recent article on Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight.com site finds that the single favorite event at the Olympics among the public (at least among people reachable through 538's social media) is track and field's 100 meter dash. That seems right to me: over the decades, I've probably written about the 1988 Ben Johnson vs. Carl Lewis...

The 100m has got a pro wrestling vibe that people like.

That and it doesn’t take long to watch.

People want to say they watched the Olympics but don’t want to actually sit through most of the events.

  • Interviewed by Spiegel in 2005, Lee Kuan Yew observed, “The social contract that led to workers sitting on the boards of companies and everybody being happy rested on this condition: I work hard, I restore Germany's prosperity, and you, the state, you have to look after me. I’m entitled to go to Baden Baden for...
  • Not all Socialism is international. There is also a nationalist flavor not associated with the NDSAP. Sanders isn’t one of them though, he is far more a social democrat and could run as a moderate or mainstream conservative in Europe.

As far Trump goes, four issues with him are the winners. No gun control, build a wall. deport illegals , screw the GOPe

The later is the only one that merits any discussion, simply the GOPe has had tons of support from its base and basically has shafted us time and time again. It understandable given that country clubbers , religious conservatives and populists don’t belong in the same party but you know TWO PARTY SYSTEM as Kang and Kodos might say

A bug chunk, maybe half the base is tired of being screwed by RINOS and as much as a 3rd of the base simply would rather burn the system than deal with it.

Trump for all his flaws is the proof of concept and all outcomes involving him are the win

#1 Cruz wins and does most of his agenda anyway — a win

#2 Trump Wins gets elected as above- a win

#3 The election is stolen for Cruz No need to worry about democracy any more.

    #4 Hillary wins. Same

#5 Trump wins and shafts us. Same

Every single condition is a victory condition.

About the only “lose” condition would be for Bernie to win, implement what he promises . if he gets the revenue it would delay the end of the Republic, show social democracy to work and jam things up.

Even that though is just another decade at most

As far as great again, in its current form? Of course not.

But some new polity, homogeneous and moral after a evolution or collapse might. New Rome is no more but New Byzantium lives on if you will.

The US is no more immune to history than the USSR and no is no more a legitimate long term foundation for a nation than the USSR was. A nation is a family related by blood and history and the US isn’t one. Its a proposition nation made mostly of nonsense and held together by laziness, fear and sometimes force.
