    —————————————————————————————
Now you may ask, “Why hasn’t Trump arrested anyone yet? Why did this have to go all the way to Congress?” Multiple reasons: first, Trump has been adamant in following the rule of law and the Constitution. He gives everyone, no matter how dirty, an opportunity to do the right thing (sometimes with warnings such as the phone call with the Georgia Secretary of State recently). He pushed cases through the courts, he presented evidence to the legislatures, and he even told the vice president to do the right thing. But with the betrayal by Pence and Congress, the treason is now complete and nobody can say that Trump did not allow the process to finish before acting. Second, in order to drain the swamp you have to know who are the swamp creatures. They can blend in very well with the crowds. But the false event in the capitol revealed the final traitors for who they were regardless of party affiliation. Trump flushed them out of hiding.

I need to take a moment to speak on Pence. With his treason completed, many of you may not know of his dealings and political posturing prior to the infamous day in the capitol. Pence was already wheeling and dealing way back during the 2016 election season with…wait for it….Paul Ryan. Remember Ryan? The RINO speaker of the house? This is the scam that Americans have been subject to for decades. In the 70s, I had been out of the country long enough to buy a car and bring it back duty free. I looked into a Mini which was getting about 45 mpg in actual not EPA mileage. I was told that that wasn't what I could buy, because this Mini didn't meet EPA emissions standards by about 5%. The Mini sent to North America met the standards, but in order to do that, they had to "de-tune" the engine, which meant a drop in mileage of about 10%. In reality, although the EPA rating was met, the car polluted more.
On my last trip, I rented a Peugeot with a turbo-diesel and a manual transmission. I was getting over 50 mpg on the highway (driving over the speed limit) and over 40 in city driving. Peugeot's don't meet EPA standards.
I suspect that is the basis of the Volkswagen "fraud" a few years back, the high mileage was reduced when EPA standards were met, and my guess is that they pollute more on a tank of gas. The EPA was set up for the oil companies to burn more fuel. The Japanese figured that out and have taken advantage of it.

  • I’m not real excited about a socialized medical system. The crux of the issue is that there is an insurance monopoly and way too many government laws and regulations impeding the development of medical services that we can all afford.

Trump tried to do a couple of things like get hospitals and drug companies to post their prices for drugs and most common medical procedures. These entities took it to court, and the consumer lost. Funny that we are supposedly free market but medical services are one area where hospitals have a monopoly in some ways and can’t be made to post prices. This is in league with the insurance cartel as well.

    Excellent points.

Bottom line: anyone who is sick, or has a sick kid, is under duress. There can be no free market when you are under duress. And of course if you are unconscious and taken to a hospital, how much informed choice do you get to have then, hm?

If when booking an airline flight, you couldn't know how much it would cost until after you had landed, it might be enough to make you a debt slave for life, well, people would stop flying.

If your kid is sick you WILL take them to the hospital and suffer whatever they decide to charge you. Which is how they can get away with this predatory behavior.

But we do understand that some industries are 'natural monopolies.' The old medieval system of private roads and bridges paralyzed the economy. Today we have mostly public roads and bridges, paid for by taxes. It's not really socialism, as the government doesn't build the roads but puts up bids for private contractors to do the real work. There is plenty of room for private profit, and for incentive to work effectively. It's not perfect, but by and large the American road system works pretty well. Why not health care?

No. 1: There's a reason that other rich countries treat health care as a taxpayer-financed social program. Employer-based health insurance was stupid pre-COVID-19 because our economy was already steadily transitioning from traditional full-time W-2 jobs to self-employment, freelance and gig...

The problem is the insurance companies with a lock on legislation preventing competition along with many laws passed at the federal and state level that has monopolized drug production and other aspects of the medical system.

Even my family doctor is annoyed with the government edicts and the insurance companies.

There is a hospital in Oklahoma with a price list for common procedures. Trump tried to make hospitals do this but it was shot down.

  • So how we do benefit from a central bank that continuously destroys the purchasing power of money? It’s true we can buy many more and better consumers goods than 1913.

Regardless of whether a money system is backed by a commodity, why is it good that a purchasing power of that money depreciates over time? How does this help the working class?

Also, if gold is so stupid, why do many central banks across the world buy and hold it and collateralize in some of their operations?

They also hold reserves in US dollars and short term US debt instruments. In the old days when a trade imbalance happened one country sent it's foreign currency overseas and the other country sent it's gold back. More money is tranferred electronically in one hour than all the gold reserves in the world. There is no way gold is any kind of reserve today, it is just a relic of the past.

You could have a gold standard before large scale industrialization because most tradable products were agriculturally based and quickly consumed.

The Fed is not "destroying" the value of the dollar. If every dollar was backed by gold then without an increase in the gold reserves, no more money can be printed. How does the economy function when increased production of goods and services is not accompanied by an increase in money? Does that mean wages and prices have to go down?

If you print more money anyway then you have the same issue as we had when Nixon took us off the gold standard. Americans went to Europe on vacation and spent dollars. Some also bought European luxury goods. The Europeans decided rather than buy US goods they wanted the gold. Under the gold standard Nixon was obligated to empty Fort Knox.

I have worked with illegals all of my life, and not as a boss. Given a chance at a job and equal treatment under the law the vast majority of undocumented Latinos make great Americans. If we crowd them into ghettos, steal their wages, and generally repress them then it is our own damn fault they turn into criminals. Occurs to me that, in America, the difference between criminal and poor is very small. Crap, I got in jail a few times back when I was poor, if I wasn't white I'm sure I'd have been in prison then and now.
