It seems to me liberals would have no problem with IQ and it’s heredity if it wasn’t for racial differences. The author and his reviewer are happy to accept that they’re smarter than low IQ whites.

” I would frame the matter a little differently. Even if I.Q. inequality is inevitable, it may eventually become irrelevant. Over the last century, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, I.Q. scores around the world have been rising by three points a decade. Some of this rise, Nisbett argues, represents a real gain in intelligence. But beyond a certain threshold — an I.Q. of 115, say — there is no correlation between intelligence and creativity or genius. As more of us are propelled above this threshold — and, if Nisbett is right, nearly all of us can be — the role of intelligence in determining success will come to be infinitesimal by comparison with such “moral” traits as conscientiousness and perseverance.”

Really, it’s not even an intelligent leftism. It’s like the writers are getting their themes from DailyKos.

The old Simpsons portrayed small town American folk as simple but generally as decent and sympathetic. New Simpsons seethes with rage towards them. It may reflect a cultural change. Maybe the writers were always Harvard elitists, but Harvard elitists have become much more likely to hate the “unenlightened” parts of the country.

Oh, calm down. A nation of 70 million people isn’t going extinct in 8 years, regardless of the birth rate.

That being said, the low birth rates of Asians is an argument against using Western-style feminism as the main or exclusive reason for this peculiarity of the modern world. Maybe it’s capitalism, but then again the US has always beat more socialist Europe, even only counting Caucasians.

  • Richard Lynn is also number 1 in Finland. The IQ researcher who wrote “IQ and the Wealth of Nations” with him was the father of a major politician.

  • “Unfortunately Matti is as PC as all the other politicians.”

At least he’s consistent. Look at what the article says about the father…

“In his interview to a publication of Helsingin Sanomat, the professor who taught at the University of Tampere, said evolution made Europeans and North Americans more intelligent than Africans. He also said African poverty is not the fault of the white man…In his interview, Tatu Vanhanen also said he favors economic solidarity toward poor countries and hoped immigrants in Finland would inter-marry and assimilate into the population at large.”

So he thinks that Africans are less intelligent and doomed to poverty, but he wants them to intermarry and give those bad genes to the Fins? I hope I’m missing something here (maybe he was only talking about Eastern European immigrants?) because “IQ and the Wealth of Nations” was a great contribution to human though.

  • This is neo-con garbage.

What the article doesn’t mention is that France went down the assimilationist path. They require everything to be in French, don’t even take statistics on demographics, teach French history and want everybody to be French. Germany and England have tried to do it in a more multicultural way.

The extent of each countries Muslim problem isn’t based on the policies they adopt towards their Muslims but proportional to how many they’ve been stupid enough to let in in the first place.

The author is trying to argue that it COULD’VE worked if it wasn’t for those crazy liberals. The real reason it doesn’t is because of human nature and the truth of genetic similarity theory. If Europe trades in multi-culturalism for neo-conism they won’t be any better off.

  • So, I took the GRE yesterday and got Verbal 650 and Math 780. I left the testing center telling myself I wouldn’t go brag about it on ISteve but what the hey, I’m happy.

But there’s a practical reason why I bring it up. Internet says I’ve got an IQ of 145-148 yet I have doubts about the conversions that you find online. The one I saw uses 115 as the average test taker’s IQ. Charles Murray says that the actual college grad’s IQ is only 105 but I assume that the average IQ of a GRE taker is higher than that of your normal college grad so 115 for the average test taker is close enough.

Both my scores are at about the 90th percentile. If we assume that GRE test takers represent the top third of the population (the amount that have college degrees) then the top ten percent of the top third only puts me at about the 97 percentile for the population in general. If that’s correct then my IQ is only about 128, the same as John McCain’s. He strikes me as a disgusting, blithering idiot and I really want to be smarter than him.

Here is the conversion chart that I used. All others I’ve found seem to be based on that.

  • From purely a statistical point of you the odds of a Latino female being qualified is almost nill. See my review of a book on affirmative action.

Read this about blacks in law school and know that everything there applies to Hispanics, only to a lesser extent.

The distribution of the bell curve means that because of the difference in average intelligence between the races when it comes to law schools the proportion of qualified whites to qualified blacks is enormous. That’s why a defender of affirmative action admits that if law schools simply went by undergraduate GPA and LSAT scores statistics from one year show that almost 4/5 of blacks, 2/3 of Puerto Ricans and 1/2 of Mexicans and Native Americans admitted to law school wouldn’t have been accepted. Even Asians get a slight edge. Of those blacks who ended up going to law school only 8.9 percent belonged there. At the top sixth of law schools 17.5 times more blacks were admitted than would’ve been based on UGPA and SAT. That’s another reason why mentioning that there are smart blacks in discussions about affirmative action misses the point. It’s not just that a few are getting a break; if you meet a high status black and you assume that he got his position at the expense of a more qualified white or Asian the vast majority of the time you’ll be right. The further he’s gotten in life, the less likely he is to have earned it by merit. And when it comes to grading…

Affirmative Action grading doesn’t have to be official policy or even conscious. Ken Harber wrote an essay filled with grammatical and content errors and gave it to 92 white college students to grade. They were given different biographies of the author and some indirectly revealed that he was black. On a scale of 7, papers that the white students thought were written by a black person got a grade of 3.5 and papers they thought were written by a white person got 2.7. On the essays supposedly written by a white some students wrote things like “when I read college work this bad I want to lay my head down on the table and cry.” The comments written on the essays supposedly written by a black were overwhelmingly positive. The mystery of how Michelle Obama could graduate from Stanford while not mastering basic English is solved.Grading in law is so subjective and liberal law school professors so enamored with the right victims slobbering the right platitudes that anything achieved by a Sonia Sotomayor needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

  • “Most likely, she is very smart and totally qualified, but also prejudiced against whites and males.”

Nah, Latinos may mumble under their breath about homos but will team up with the liberal elite and accept them as part of the anti-white alliance. NAMs voted against gay marriage, but who got it on the ballot?

The president of Brazil called “homophobia” a “mental disease” not too long ago. In Mexico, the situation is similar to the US.In a Parametría poll, respondents were asked if they would support a constitutional amendment that would legalize same-sex marriage; 17% responded yes, 61% said no and 14% had no opinion.[6] The same poll showed 28% in support of same-sex civil unions, 41% were opposed and 28% had no opinion.Despite that, Mexico City has civil unions and so does the state Coahuila. Other states are going to follow. Jose Sixpack’s opinions don’t matter. Latin America’s elites follow the lead of the elites of the white world.

Now the Muslim population in Europe is going to be a different story…

The list isn't complete, obviously. Most countries have men 2-4 years older than women.

    Countries with biggest age discrepencies…

    Philippeans 6.5
    Niger 6.3
    Saudi Arabia 6.2
    Greece 6.1 years
    Chad 6.1

Interestingly, in Argentina women are 4.3 older than men and in Chile women are 2 years older. In the latter the marrying ages are 37 and 35! In Mexico the ages are the same.

I don't believe the data from Latin America.

  • Is it time to root for the jihadis yet?

  • Here's another wonderful story from Sweden

Young women in Sweden, Germany and Australia have a new cause: They want men to sit down while urinating. This demand comes partly from concerns about hygiene — avoiding the splash factor — but, as Jasper Gerard reports in the English magazine The Spectator, "more crucially because a man standing up to urinate is deemed to be triumphing in his masculinity, and by extension, degrading women." One argument is that if women can't do it, then men shouldn't either. Another is that standing upright while relieving oneself is "a nasty macho gesture," suggestive of male violence.
A feminist group at Stockholm University is campaigning to ban all urinals from campus, and one Swedish elementary school has already removed them. In Australia, an Internet survey shows that 17 percent of those polled think men ought to sit, while 70 percent believe they should be allowed to stand. Some Swedish women are pressuring their men to take a stand, so to speak. Yola, a 25-year-old Swedish trainee psychiatrist, says she dumps boyfriends who insist on standing. "What else can I do?," said her new boyfriend, Ingvar, who sits.

To answer my own question, yes, it is time to root for the jihadis.

  • Not sure why, but there seems to be sort of a racial angle to these radical feminist excesses. That is, they seem to only occur among whites, and mainly among the whitest of the white – the peoples of northwestern Europe. Southern and eastern Europeans are less feminist, and non-whites even less.

    That's what I always thought

Moxon’s theory of women being favored, like many things, makes sense in the Western world but not universally. He says about Middle Eastern culture

"The very different experience of Muslim and Hebraic cultures-where social practices are derived primarily from canonical text rather than the codification of biological imperatives-is the exception that proves the rule. Indeed a plausible argument could be made that the ‘patriarchal’ moral and legal codes deriving from the ‘religions of the book’ are an attempt to redress the imbalance revealed by the practice of ‘natural’ societies."

But doesn’t that seem backwards? Wouldn’t we expect that culture and religion would work with a group’s nature instead of “fixing imbalances?” Kevin MacDonald makes the case in his paper What Makes Western Culture Unique? that inherent racial differences are reflected in and reinforced by religious and cultural practices. Like with the question of race and IQ, it is more reasonable to assume differences than similarity in the kinds of societies we expect different groups to create. I wonder if Moxon really believes that Afghans or Saudis are inherently just as likely to fall for “The Woman Racket” and adopt society destroying feminism as Swedes are.

Racial differences can also help explain why no group of whites has reacted to incentives for irresponsibility the way black Americans have. In 2007 the black out-of-wedlock birth rate hit an all-time high of 72%. Africans are not only looser sexually but have different ideas about the obligations of men and women. Steve Sailer writes that in the West “feminists complain that men lock women out of the world of work. But in Africa, men have always ceded most of the world of work to women.” We see the same thing with regards to out-of-wedlock birth rate to a lesser extent with America’s growing Latino population. East Asians may have birth rates as low as the West but you still don’t see Western style feminism or rampant anti-men discrimination. We all share certain qualities going back to the primordial ooze but different environments have had plenty of time to tweak our differences since then. While there are pluses and minuses to each system, feminism seems to be like racial masochism: a curse that only affects whites.

Look up the MacDonald paper for the theory. Also see "What's Wrong with White Men."

  • "I wonder why the same phenomenon does not seem to affect East Asian men, who supposedly also have low testosterone. They seem to do a much better job of keeping their women in check than their Northern European counterparts do."

Their women have less testosterone too. It takes pussy men and loud mouth feminist to make it work. A society made up of Asian men and white females would probably make Sweden look like Iraq!

Another theory is that with races intermingling the gender within each race that is less socially valued becomes embittered at the more desirable one. So among blacks you get the sistahs complaining about rich and high status blacks marrying whites women, Asian men bitter about white guys taking Asian women and white men frustrated by white females who have more options than anybody.

These natural imbalances are a good case for racial separation. In the end, Islam is more adaptive than anything else. I suspect on the sexual free market Arab/Persian females would be more desired than their male counterparts so Middle Eastern men should do whatever it takes to resist globalization and secularism.

  • Steve,

I wanted to like Sarah Palin. A beautiful, conservative white woman with 5 kids. That's what liberals hated about her, I know.

And I know that she didn't have time to study foreign policy.

But still. What does that have to do with why she couldn't name a single newspaper that she reads? Or the nonsense about seeing Russia from her house?

I don't know if it's low IQ or her being so nervous that makes her ramble and says ridiculous things. Either way, she's not cut out for prime time.

You've never gotten over your initial positive feelings told her and it clouds your judgement. This is not the conclusion I wanted to come to but watching her is painful.

  • "1 – Palin never said "I can see Russia from my house." That was the Saturday Night Live parody of her actual statement that, (paraphrased), "You can see Russia from some areas in Alaska.""

Ok! She didn't actually say "from my house." The comment she did make was still plenty stupid, even if technically true.

And what about the nonsense about Putin "rearing his head" into Alaska? Was that Tina Fey too?

I caught her being interviewed by Andrea Mitchell this morning. Palin was out fishing. Mitchell asked some question about resigning and Palin's answer started with "You're not listening!" It sounded so weird and whiny. It was a perfect example of her akwardness and all I took away from the interview.

After they played the interview Mitchell was talking to the morning show host (Matt Laurer I'm 99% sure) and he asked something about exactly where the interview took place. Mitchell says something and then mumbles "you can see Russia for there."

The media elites really drop any pretense to objectivity when talking about her.

Still, you can hate the elites and recognize a ditz when you see one.

All that being said, an Obama Vs. Palin matchup for president would be a culture war the likes of which we've never see before. I don't think I'd do anything but sit in front of the TV for six months. I'm rooting for it regardless of any other considerations.

  • Now be nice everyone.

  • Interestingly, this program run by the State Department increases immigration from the seven countries that the State Department has declared "state sponsors of international terrorism:" Iran (768 visas this year), Iraq (71), Syria (62), Libya (61), Cuba (529), North Korea (four) and Sudan (1,297).

North Korea lets its citizens participate? How? That contradicts everything I've read about the country.

  • Here's a video of a riot in my old neighborhood, Uptown, whose slogan is "Chicago's Most Entertaining Neighborhood." (It's home to the Riviera and Aragon concert halls.)This bottle-throwing brouhaha took place at the corner of Sheridan and Leland, two blocks inland from the lakefront at 4700 North, on August 13, 2009 at just after 9...
  • From Shiller's statement

"My office spends more time and resource fighting crime and violence than dealing with any other issue. My staff and I regularly exchange information with the 20th and 23rd District police regarding potentially dangerous situations and how to prevent violence or crime from occurring. And today crime and violence in the 23rd and 20th police districts is among the lowest in Chicago. But don’t take my word for it. Check it out at http://www.chicagopolice.org. Whether you search by district, ward and/or individual beat – you will find this to be true. This is a great accomplishment within a community as diverse as the 46th Ward, and the credit goes to our residents and the leadership of our police commanders."

So she admits that having a low crime rate in a "diverse" area is a real accomplishment.

  • Sen. Kennedy sponsored both the 1965 immigration act and the 1990 act that created the absurd diversity immigration lottery. The irony is that Kennedy intended both laws to bring more Irishmen to America to vote for Kennedys. The two laws largely failed at that, but had remarkable unintended consequences. My published articles are archived at iSteve.com...
  • "Option A: these four were specially selected as moles.
Option B: they're refugees who made it to SK/Japan/Russia and applied from embassies or consulates there."

For option A the Korean government would've had to ensure their special moles had won. Either that or train whoever wins to become one.

Option B makes a little more sense. Even escaping from North Korea is supposed to be something of a big deal.

    "Question everything.

Much of what we are told is lies."

If you've got evidence that North Korea is less repressive than we've been led to believe, present it.

  • Our elected officials and punditocracy are engaging in an orgy of nostalgia over the late Ted Kennedy, in part because he embodied their ideal: the Public-Figure-for-Life. Teddy was elected to the U.S. Senate to replace his brother when he was 29 and then spent almost 47 years in the Senate. You know the old joke...
  • "As for Friedman, even a broken clock (like Ron Paul) can be right sometimes. He's dumb as a box of rocks about "the world is flat" but I'll see your dead (volunteer enlistee) with 3,000 dead Americans on 9/11. And likely 3 million dead in NYC in a few years."

    You really are quite amazing.

"My name in Evil Neocon. The world is ending. No one can find mates, women have emasculated all men. Affirmative action ensures we can't get jobs. Our society is falling apart. WHITE WOMEN. We must struggle for democracy in Iraq."

What part of that doesn't fit in with the rest?

  • I'd just like to add that after watching Friedman's disgusting and blood thirsty idiocy I wasn't in the mood to read Testing's.

  • "BO, and Gordon Brown, are doing their best to project an image of weakness; and to disable the capacity of the West to defend itself. Perhaps Afghanistan is the sole exception to this. But overall the perception in the Middle East is that the USA is winding down as a world power and ultimately will do little to prevent the Islamification of Europe; as such, the last real obstacle will be out of the way, since the Europeans themselves clearly do not have the capacity to resist. In fact many do not even comprehend they have a problem. "

Dude, you live in a fantasy world if you think that Americans would ever resist the Islamization of Europe. It's actually the other way around. America wants Turkey to join the EU, the French are resisting. When Haider was brought into the cabinet in Austria it was the US that went nuts. It was America that took the side of the Muslim Bosnians and bombed the Christian Serbs.

You've inadvertently brought up another problem that the Bush/Cheney regime had. Because it was willing to bomb Muslims, the naive amongst you got the impression that they gave a damn about saving Western civilization. The Republican elite are active destroyers of it. At least a weak America would have more hesitation about screwing everything up with its empire of multiculturalism.

"the last real obstacle will be out of the way, since the Europeans themselves clearly do not have the capacity to resist"

The US as an obstacle to the destruction of the West! HAHA.

  • In traditional Western cultures, below the rank of aristocrats, romantic and sexual impulsiveness was a major threat to social standing. The punishment in terms of class standing for out-of-wedlock births was so harsh that the illegitimacy rate among women in England in 1200-1800 was stable at around 3-4%, even though women didn't marry on average...
  • "I suspect, however, that I had also sinned by tangentially calling into question one of the sacred myths of our age, repeated endlessly by PBS: that the 1960s cultural revolution was for the benefit of blacks, when, in truth, it was for the benefit of upper middle class whites, and was very much at the expense of people farther down the social scale."

If the elites are still playing by the old rules, how did it even benefiting them?

I personally think that blacks, despite the crime, poverty, etc. may on balance still be better off under the affirmative action state. The entire black middle class was created by affirmative action and government employment.

  • "Now that's a solid post Steve, allow me to be the third to laud you here. It is informative, well thought out, interesting, and fair.

    I could quibble about the silly Gates-Jenna 6 comparison, but I won't."

Truth, you've really mellowed out lately. You been succeeding with game, brother?

  • "We can agree that the military and some government employment may have helped African-Americans move out of poverty and into the middle class, but affirmative action is one of the most pernicious concepts to infect our culture. It has vastly increased distrust between all races (did that guy get into med school because he was good or because he was black? – damn hard to know), retards progress by its direct opposition to the concept of rewards based on merit (see Ricci), leads even the "advantaged" groups into self-doubt and hate that must be externalized (see Michelle Obama). Moreover, there were black intellectuals and areas with an educated, thriving, and legitimate black middle class – Harlem and D.C immediately come to mind – before affirmative action and the "liberation" Steve describes destroyed their meritocratic and disciplined social structures."

Nice job of opposing AA in a very PC way.

If blacks feel such a psychological burden from AA, why aren't they clamoring for its end? So they can be judged on their merit? Because whether whitey thinks they're competent or not the vast majority of blacks live much better off with government favoritism than without.

Powell supports affirmative action. Ethan Bonner, in a typically laudatory review of The Shape of the River (a pro-affirmative action book-Richard H.) in the New York Times (”Study Strongly Supports Affirmative Action in Admissions to Elite Colleges” (September 9, 1998): B10), quoted Powell’s derisory comment about the supposed harm that affirmative action does to its recipients’ self-esteem: “Asked about the stigma that opponents say affirmative action imposes on blacks who attend these elite colleges, General Powell was dismissive. ’I would tell black youngsters to…get one of those well-paying jobs [that they will get through affirmative action] to pay for all the therapy they’ll need to remove the stigma’.”

This "blacks are the victims of discrimination in their favor" nonsense needs to go.

  • I looked in the GSS, post at Secular Right. There isn't that much deviation from the mean of ~25% who believe genes play a major role in personality. Interestingly, women are more accepting of the idea of genes effecting personality than men. Not surprisingly, the old are also more open to the idea of genes...
  • Do people just tend to believe more in genes as they age? Were the youth always this silly or is it a recent development?
