RSS geekiness is more often than not considered a negative signal for females.
I don’t think that’s true, wongba. I think “geekiness” can serve as a proxy for qualities such as prowess with technology or facility at abstract thought, which in the Western world today often correlates with material success & therefore ability to provide for a family. Granted, women may not fawn publicly over geeks the way they do George Clooney or whoever. But that doesn’t mean they don’t want a geek of their own to come home to.
There may also be a connection with this, from the 3/26 World Science piece on human evolution http://www.world-science.net/exclusives/070326_evolution.htm:
In the June 2003 issue of the research journal Current Anthropology, Helen Leach of the University of Otago, New Zealand wrote that skeletons from some populations in the human lineage have undergone a progressive shrinkage and weakening, and reduction in tooth size, similar to changes seen in domesticated animals. Humans seem to have domesticated themselves, she argued, causing physical as well as mental changes.
It’s not clear what “populations” Leach refers to, but in a world where physical strength isn’t as important to physical survival, maybe geekiness aka facility for abstract thought carries more weight than it once did, as people select potential mates. In which case we’re possibly creating a race of geeks. Kewl.
I would like to point out that if one goes to the original site and pulls the slide bar across to the left to look at primary care providers rather than doctor’s offices, the maps look much more similar. I am unclear as to exactly what the difference in measurements is… but it seems very relevant to this discussion.
What an interesting blog I’ve stumbled on in my internet walkabout!
Regarding the ‘unfocused diatribe’ of Dwight E. Howell, I’m actually curious about whether there is greater ‘family dysfunction’ in current times than in, say, the past century of US history. I’d ask Mr. Howell specifically: What part of the US or world and what socioeconomic class are you getting your anecdotal info from?
Also I’m not sure how to define family dysfunction or family fractured-ness, perhaps something like: percentage of children raised by caregivers other than bio parents/ percentage of divorced parents/ some other estimate of family instability? (although I acknowledge kids often can be and are raised well by divorced & non-bio parents)
Here’s a video about a recent New York Times (nyt) article that’s basically running propaganda cover for the fact that Nazi symbols are regularly seen on military uniforms in Ukraine:
Video Link
The Times has ignored the prominent Nazi presence in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, though now they deal with it while offering cover for it at the same time. Could we expect anything different from the Times? I think not.
The discussion in this video is quite good.
What a pile of shit the us empire is, and that includes the NYT. This notion that we are defending “democracy” in the Ukraine is absurd—more us propaganda.
. The place has been soaking in Nazis regimes for ages. Many can’t get over the fact that Zelenskyy is ‘Jewish.’ And talk abt hugely repressive regimes…us puppets
That’s where you’re wrong,Anglin : lately Charlie Kirk changed his stance on Israel! He spoke out against Israel. After having turned down an enormous donation from zionist entities, he stated to receive numerous threats-they were angry over not getting C.K. as their mouthpiece. He went into Trumps office and said that he was afraid and thought Israel might kill him; however Trump told his “friend” to “shut up about that and get out of here”!!
So, Anglin : forget your :evil villain: denunciation.
