Actually, I don't think it's about religion.
Although I despise religions, especially Christianity and Islam, the reason why this has turned most people against Jews is because at least we are human beings.
Jews in Israel are taught from an early age that other people are not human, that they are a higher species.

The overwhelming majority of the time, you're going to use your vehicle's stored energy for everyday local commuting, errands etc. The hassle for gasoline car drivers is, you have to slog over to the filling station for every little bit of transportation energy, even local driving. Your car sits there overnight in your driveway or garage anyway while you sleep. But for an EV driver, something useful happens while he sleeps - his car is being recharged so as to give him a full "tank" every morning.

A mere ten seconds to plug in when you get home in the evening, ten seconds to unplug when you're about to roll out in the morning, is way WAY WAY less of your time, and WAY more convenient than having to slog several minutes one way over to the filling station every other weekend or more, including in blazing sweaty heat, bitter cold, driving rain, you name it, and stand there holding the pump for several minutes, then several minutes back.

Plus, electricity at home, UNSUBSIDIZED is much cheaper than gasoline, saving you thousands of dollars over your ownership life.

The problem with hybrids is that you're still stuck on gasoline as your ONLY way to move. Being able to move a bit further down the road for your gallon in a hybrid, at the cost of being forced to drive like a grandma, is miserable.

A far better option is either a plug-in hybrid, or a flex-fuel vehicle, either of which at least enables you to use something OTHER than gasoline for most of your driving, while still being able fall back on running on gasoline like an ordinary car if that's all that's available where you end up in. A plug-in hybrid charges up overnight like a battery electric vehicle, with enough battery capacity to deal with your commute, errands etc. daily driving, and falling back on gasoline only if you're going long distance. A flex-fuel vehicle costs no more than a gasoline-only car and can use ethanol as a fuel in its own right (not just as a minor ingredient in gasoline) which is available at over 4,000 filling stations.
