This is ignored in virtually all accounts of what’s happening in Syria.
Much like Crimea.
The Russians were INVITED by their ALLY. The LEGAL SOVEREIGN government of Syria.

WASHINGTON—The Obama administration and European and Arab allies are seeking to peel Russia away from its alliance with Iran, a partnership that has bolstered Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, said senior diplomats involved in efforts to end Syria’s lengthy conflict.
The efforts, which have unfolded quietly through meetings involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and Middle Eastern leaders, are meant to coax support from Moscow for a limit on Mr. Assad’s time in power. Such a step would solidify an emerging international coalition and help clear the way for a more concerted military effort to counter Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
Iran is seen as a brake on those efforts because of its more staunchly pro-Assad position, which it wants the Kremlin to support. If Russia holds fast to Iran and Mr. Assad, it would undermine hopes for an international consensus.
Right at the top, this non sequitur:
From the article:
“Over the past quarter century, the US and EU turned their focus from systemic adversaries (anti-capitalist and anti-imperial states and movements) to attacking capitalist regimes, which (1) had adopted nationalist, re-distributive and Keynesian policies”
Attacking “Keynesian policies”????
WTF???
Name one western nation, North American or European, which has NOT adopted Keynesian policies!!
Keynesianism is the economic choice of fascist regimes. This according to Lord Keynes himself!
Not gonna argue with the rest, pretty much accurate.
Yeah, I volunteer at a soup kitchen in Woodside. Tragic.
Fascinating.... "cleaning up Afghanistan".... Is that what the U.S. (and NATO presumably) has been trying to do for the last 14 years? What specifically does that mean anyway? What metric do you have for the results of the "cleaning up" operation anyway? How do we know when the place is sufficiently "clean" so we can leave?
When you talk to a strategy guy about cleaning up Afghanistan, it isn’t long before he shakes his head and says, “So long as we can’t go after Pakistan, we really can’t do much. Pakistan’s the real source of the problems up there.
Whoa.
Don't know about "most." In fact, that's pretty much BS.
Most Russian economists agree that the real reason for the current economic crisis in Russia is not the falling price of oil or, even less so, the western sanctions, but the misguided decisions of the Russian Central Bank (such as floating the Ruble or keeping the interest rates high) and the lack of governmental action to support a real reform and development of the Russian economy. What is especially interesting is that vocal opponents of the current 5th column now get plenty of air time in the Russian media, including state owned VGTRK. Leading opponents of the current economic policies, such as Sergei Glazev, Mikhail Deliagin or Mikhail Khazin are now interviewed at length and given all the time needed to absolutely blast the economic policies of the Medvedev government.
This is correct. Kudrin is an egomaniac who thinks he is far brighter than he actually is.Replies: @Capn Mike, @Andrei Martyanov, @Seraphim, @Anonymous
What is certain is that so far Putin has failed to deal with the 5th column near and inside the Kremlin and that the situation is rapidly worsening. The recent move by Kudrin to try to get back into the government was a rather transparent use of the pro-5th column media in Russia (and abroad) and it predictably failed.
Anatoly,
You stole my thunder. Great comment.
In particular, I praise Elvira Nabiullina. She provides a sane alternative to the nutso ideas of Yellen and the other Western bankers. How Saker can lump her in as a Western lackey confounds me.
After this current bubble bursts, she’ll get the last laugh. To me, she seems a female, Russian version of the great Paul Volcker.
Good ol’ Caesar Chavez and the UFW union. There used to be a guest worker “Bracero” program in Cal. Guys would come north to work the fields, make a modest but honest buck, then send or better BRING home their money to their families in Mexico, where the money went REALLY FAR.
So,
1. Workers had legal protection (no coyotes, gang pressure)
2. No SS tax, income tax?
3. No anchor babies
Well, thanks to the UFW, that program was killed by Dems in Sac., workers went mostly illegal with all attending problems including welfare, anchor babies. The UFW workers should be citizen foremen, overseeing guest workers, enjoying better work conditions and higher pay, but instead are just overpaid pickers.
Thanks, Caesar.
sure, still do and so?
OK, so follow the example of the “most Islamic ” country in Europe, who have imported these guys for decades. And have reaped the whirlwind. Oh, yeah, that’s an informed strategy.
No, it’s about a RHYMING dictionary :).
The T.A.M.I. Show!!!
I’m pretty sure?
A highlight of my miserable high school experience.
Yer right! It’s like those old mummy movies where the mummy was slogging along at about 1.5 MPH, and the blonde broke a heel and is too STOOPID to just kick em off and run like hell.
We seem here to be ignoring here the fact that “The Breadbasket” is completely socialist, thanks to the USDA, DOE (crop supports, ethanol etc). These guys don’t want to upset the apple (or corn) cart.
The Bahamas (where I live) recently instituted a “sweep” of illegal Haitians in the country. No drama, no outrage. fair is fair. Well, we can’t find anyone to mow the lawn now, but the Haitians are GONE. Simple, without the histrionics. Oh, also The Bahamas are overwhelmingly black so that could help.
Too many comments to wade through at this point. So, casting aside all the thoughts about what a jerk this guy Moore is (and I am not going to refute that), I was struck by one thought when I read the first part of his article. That is, the Republican idiots really blew it back in the ’90’s when they didn’t reach out to the (conservative mostly) black churches. They could have easily forged a strong alliance which would far overshadow the current 9 to 1 ratio of GOP vs Demo among blacks. ESPECIALLY VOTING blacks.
Oh well, I hate the Repubs as much as I hate the Demos, so I don’t give a rat’s, but I sure got to shake my head at their stupidity.
We’ll see the transcript on the front page of the NY Times and the Washington Post, right???
Hey,
Quote me some leftist Dylan please.
Opposition to the Cold War qualifies one as leftist in my book. You could say the song is anti-war in general, and it is, except for the Germans, who are singled out as a people we should continue to make war with in perpetuity. If that's too old-school, then this will delight modern SJWs.
The Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And then we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now, too
Have God on their sideI've learned to hate the Russians
All through my whole life
If another war comes
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side

Used to be a guest worker program (“bracero?) which enabled workers from Mexico to legally work for a specified time in U.S. ag.
Chavez got that repealed to boost union strength.
If we brought that back AND got a sane court ruling on 14th Amendment anchor babies, we could have a win-win.
Cheap labor, no additional welfare / citizens and safe, well paying (by Mexican standards) jobs for Mexicans.
Maybe Bibi’s affection for Russia has a domestic component. There is a huge influx of Russians into Israel and I presume they vote.

"...dozens of juveniles terrorized riders Saturday night when they invaded the Coliseum Station and commandeered at least one train car, forcing passengers to hand over bags and cell phones and leaving at least two with head injuries...
...40 to 60 juveniles flooded the station, jumped the fare gates and rushed to the second-story train platform. Some of the robbers apparently held open the doors... while others streamed inside, confronting and robbing and in some cases beating riders...
...The attack was so quick, police reported, that the teenagers were able to retreat from the station and vanish into the surrounding East Oakland neighborhood before BART officers could respond...
...the robberies took place in just seconds. ...

Hmmmm… They hate him because he belongs to the same demonic cult of ophthalmology as the Hitleresque Assad.
In the opening frame of that “Up the Down Staircase” clip, is that Warren Beatty in drag???
Pretty close there. BUT the aggregation of all those red counties puts us right back in the frying pan. Split those into small pieces as well. Think of Swiss cantons for example.
You may want to investigate Hans Hoppe’s excellent work in this area. maybe you already have, you sound bright).
Gotcha.
But I still think the red counties should downsize as well. 300+ million people (minus the Blues) ruled from a swamp in Virginia is not workable even WITHOUT the Dems. Break it up. See: Tenth Amendment Center.
Regarding the British red phone box:
I was camping in Wales many years back (pre-cellphone). I wanted to call my folks in the states, so I went up to the lone red phone box in the campground that evening. It was incredibly confusing for a yank to get that thing to work with pound coins and all and I was having a hell of a time. I eventually realized that a little old lady had been waiting for some time to use the phone. So I leaned out and said: “Excuse me, but could you help me with this phone?” She responded with a fountain of Welsh spittle talk which I don’t comprehend. I explained further. “I’m sorry, I’m from America you see…”. “OH!! You’re American!!! I thought you were ENGLISH!!! Here, let me help”.
Philip, I know you won’t back down. We need more like you to call out those neocons with no clothes.
They knew of the rift that had grown since 196o or so, but they didn't believe it until the short border war in 1969. The same way that a number of indicators suggested as early as 1983 that the USSR was imploding, but the menace of the USSR was used to keep justifying a buildup and procurement of new systems until and even beyond its actual implosion a few years later.
"No one in Washington seemed to know that China and the Soviet Union had split and become bitter enemies. As ever, our foreign human intelligence was lousy."
Having been on – site at the time (North Tonkin Gulf), I can tell you that China gave U.S.N. units free rein over those waters, including Chinese waters. The fix was in. In 1969 onwards. China and Viet Nam were NEVER friends.
Did CIA realize this? I don’t know.
Good question. Above my pay grade, I regret. But there were LOTS of Russian freighters in and out of Haiphong throughout the “war”. The North Vietnamese were always close to the Soviets.
We never harassed those ships, or ANY vessels for that matter. The N. Vietnamese fishing fleet would fish within a stone’s throw of our ships up at PIRAZ.
I nominate The Indigo Girls.
And um, snorlax, Lindsey Buckingham is a guy. Funny, tho, a girl named Stevie and a guy named Lindsey.
Hey, we’re all gettin’ older. Glad you weren’t “triggered”
Rock on, old man.
Uh,
I think you’re pretty much whacko.
This comment should demonstrate that.
Maybe people are just so TIRED of Russiagate.
OK, These are the ass-clowns of the Supreme Court who invented birthright citizenship in the 1898 Wong Kim Ark case: Gray, Brewer, Brown, Shiras, White, Peckham.

Wow, it’s all so clear now. Thanks! NYT! And here I thought it was personal responsibility and not little pieces of paper.
How much longer can this obsession with the so called ‘evils of racism’ endure?
As it happens I looked up the definition of racism yesterday. there were several threads to the definition but one that seemed to be common was the belief that some race was better than some or most of the others. But that’s true – isn’t it?
Perhaps a century ago someone might have believed that all the races could run equally fast, In the nineteenth century you might entertain the idea that whites were faster runners because they run a lot of races. Or you might have imagined that blacks were better runners as the British in the movie ‘Zulu’ did. But today we have the results of thousands of races conducted under all sorts of conditions and in all sorts of places. We now know with great certainty that West Africans are the fastest sprinters and East Africans the fastest in the distance races.
There is no room for doubt anymore. Africans are superior runners. How can we then still entertain the notion of equality?
So it is for every skill and talent. If we know anything about a particular attribute that has any racial differences – and they all seem to have racial differences – we will understand that one race is always better at something and others worse.
Of course you could say that no one cares about running but in fact baseball, basketball and football are all overrepresented by people of African descent largely because they are better runners. Possession of ‘good wheels’ is worth millions to the individuals who have that trait.
Asians are good at living in large communities. They commit few crimes and almost no violent crimes. This phenomenon is as well established as African running ability. In this important contributor to civilization Asians ability to be peaceful and cooperative marks them as superior. This cannot be doubted by any honest person.
The arrow of time shoots down all the pretenses leftists have about racial equality. Every year the evidence accumulates – the races differ. It is perverse to pretend it is otherwise.
The “socialistic” majority black government of The Bahamas recently rounded up all the illegal Haitians and shipped them back.
Yeah, the lawn don’t get mowed, but all that gummint service money is saved.
I could have written this. It’s EXACTLY what I did in Dallas back in the 80’s.
I agree completely!
” What kind of life did the African live in his native land, before he was brought to America and introduced to Western civilization? That slavery was widely practiced in Africa before the coming of the white man is beyond dispute. But what sort of indigenous civilization did the African enjoy?”

ALSO the HATE spewed by Southerners for slaves. Uh uh. Slaves were treasured. They were valuable PROPERTY. Not a great reason, but reason none the less.
Huh, didn’t know that. Still a stupid movie. 🙂
Yeah, “cherish” was not the right word. “Valued” is what I should have said.
And as Walter Block would tell you: “Slavery is BAD!” /not sarc
Great comment, Mark! Worthy of article status.

The Electoral College: The last vestige of a once great republic.
I'd go for some compromise on the electoral college issue, such as federal election referees for all federal offices, enforcement of eligibility laws such as citizenship requirements, voter ID's and a 30-day interim between last opportunity for registration and election day in exchange for a more regional electoral college rather than state-based electors.

In the interview, they talk about “slip” of the tongue.
In my view, these are intended.
Something almost (I’m not a believer) SATANIC about it.
Like, they need to tell you what’s up, but they rely upon your credulity to ignore the obvious and go with the narrative.
