As the whole imbroglio about the cultural imperialism of nice white ladies going to rural Mexico to learn how to cook Mexican food authentically reminds, the USA and Spain are the only places with serious numbers of Mexican immigrants. Yet we find Mexican (Or rather Mexican-inspired food modified to the tastes of other countries) restaurants in London, in Paris, in Moscow, even Beirut or Tokyo. Yet none of those places have noticeable Mexican populations.

It’s almost like the knowledge of how to cook food might possibly be imported without taking in millions of rural peasants or something.

Thus “black” actually is the ethnic name we use for them, “African-American” is an awkward and largely outside formal usage (Who says “African-American” more often than police to dispatch in describing a suspect?) isn’t really used much today.

Thus there is some desire for a word for their group and for it to be capitalised. The problem is we can’t use “Afro” or “African” (North Africans aren’t the same race for a start) to describe racially black people and thus we have a problem because then writers and worse, editors, need to make decisions as to where and when “Black” and “black” is appropriate. Would Barack Obama count as “Black” or “black”? Who the hell wants to put their neck out on that in current year? Would Idris Elba, the son of Nigerian immigrants born and raised in London who often stars in Hollywood productions playing “Black” characters count as “Black” or “black”? And that’s just the issue of dealing with setting the boundary, what happens when your readers get confused why Nelson Mandela is “black”. So you rapidly then have to decide that everyone, anywhere no matter their ancestors or place of residence who would be considered racially black in America gets called “Black”. Which is obviously stupid and a reason why it shouldn’t be done if that is the only way it could end. But as Steve mentioned, 2020-2024 wasn’t a great time for questioning things like this. We seem to have reached peak woke as everyone relises just how few people actually believed in it all but it’s one thing to make an editorial change like this, it’s another to rescind it. Of course, if Trump wins in November, even if he ends all the horrific wars (There is some evidence that younger voters have realised Trump is the only anti-neocon in town and a core liberal value in not blowing the world up is served by Trump whereas basically no liberal values are served by Biden) the hysteria could all kick off again.

The capitalising of White is interesting, however, since White Americans traditionally haven’t really seen themselves as a volk being keenly aware of the ethnicity of their ancestors and being made up of several distinct waves of immigration and settlement. Steve often makes much of the canard of the Irish not being considered “white” but in a post-modern way there is some truth if you consider “white” to increasingly mean “core American”. The Irish were obviously white but they were an outgroup from the core WASP America and today they aren’t.

What is interesting if how the harping on about how evil “white” people are all the time is actually doing more to create a group cohesion (Along with the mass migration of lots of other non-whites) than anything “melting pot” propaganda ever did. So maybe there is a good reason to capitalise “White” since increasingly it’s not a physical or broad biological racial descriptor, it is being memed by the anti-white scribes at the Post into actually being an cohesive ethnicity.

As an addemdum to my previous observation that modern America and places it sees as under it’s cultural hegemony (Western Europe, nobody cares about Eastern Europe because very few Americans consider that “The Old Country” and many of the ones who it was the old country for hate that people and culture there since it was not only the old country but also “the latest country” and because it’s poor.) operate as it’s highest conception of morality (Effectively it’s guiding religion) the idea that:

None of it was also formalised at all in the 18th and 19th centuries. The advent of modernity also led to a lot of searching for the folk ways that were being displaced in Europe during the 18th and particularly the 19th century. But while traditions were reforged from incomplete or modified forms there was rarely anything that was just completely made up like Arthurian legend, there was often something left to take and make live again in the new age. And part of the purpose of national traditions is to exist in and of themselves, so 200 years of this style of cooking is indisputably an Italian traditional national cuisine even if you want to pretend it was all just made up 200 years ago when it clearly wasn’t.

I should say the latter thing is not really operant in Europe very much (Which is what the FT columnist finds annoying), but the former ones really does. If the Italians in the 18th century didn’t fully understand and replicate traditional Italian folk cuisine we understand they didn’t make it up and more importantly, their desire to understand it came from the very real existence of Italy and Italians and thus a desire to understand their national traditions. That’s difficult to judge since what constitutes TV has changed so much. Even gameshows have staff writers. So the really great writers are going it alone on TV or with a little group of friends and room writers have become even lower status. This would probably coincide with their becoming more female, women care less about status in career than men.

It’s a theory that makes no sense because we see fertility declines of similar kinds in all first world countries including ones that had substantially higher family sizes more recently.

People don’t have children until they feel their adulthood building and career are settled, as that has been disrupted by all women working, generations becoming increasingly over-educated and credentialed, the unresolved financial looting of the economy and the major one, lack of access to housing. The longer that takes the harder it is for family formation, the more likely too, that people get lost and confused and just find themselves single, alone and confused how it happened.

In the US the baby boom caused a major disruption of resources, particularly housing, as that generation has had their own children and their children have had children, those generations will have had to have fewer or later children by default.

In the US there is the added disruption of most middle class people going long distances away from their hometowns for college and thus being even more of a leaf in the wind by default.

The forty sufferers have many children, and in total there are well over a hundred people who, despite everything, relied on income from work at these companies and lived in the accompanying housing – at least until yesterday.

I bet nobody will question that they now deserve to be allowed to legally live in Iceland and if that alone might cause the problems with this kind of scheme to become worse.

This court case comes a day after a different kind of immigrant did their own stereotypical things. Dramatic aggressive protest against effectively any deportations? Iceland has never been more exciting and vibrant! You can’t say it’s boring now! In reality the only thing Iceland has ever had going for it was it’s tight homogeneous Nordic population, in contrast to the supposed logic of our world, that is actually why it’s so not racist or ethnocentric (Along with being an island not engaged in a long conflict with neighbours) but the immigrants will never understand that. America being a first past the post voting system with an effectively duopoly of parties and the main non-core group being only 10-12% of the population and tiny in number across most of the country doesn’t face this in the form of a proper black ethnic party.

But the US has been embroiled in the question of black ethnic power sharing for over 60 years now.

Clearly Oriental in appearance with very primitive technology and culture and no writing it was assumed that this population, isolated and surrounded by subcontinental peoples was a relict population and that Oriental people were the original inhabitants of perhaps a vast expanse. There is also apparently a plan to invade Lebanon. This is all while just hoping that every Islamic country is in too much disarray, and/or too corrupt, to attack Israel.

I think the plan is the opposite. The ideal situation for the Israelis is to provoke Syria and Iran to have to finally intervene and then have their golem US come in once more unto the breach to fight them to “defend Israel”. Netanyahu needs to get the war between Iran and America while he still can, his co-ethnics in the diaspora having fucked up and accelerated American hegemonic decline with Ukraine. It’s now or never, the US won’t be able to intervene soon. If Iran and or Syria decide not to intervene as 2 million Gazans are killed or starved to death or expelled thinking it’s a trap, then that’s cool too with Israel but I don’t think the Israelis are scared of war with Iran, they’re scared an opening won’t come for them to provoke one. As a high school teacher, parents are a big part of enabling this behavior. There is little support from parents for disciplining students in schools–when students are held accountable for their behavior and have consequences, more often than not, their parents are immediately calling and/or emailing the teacher who disciplined them, to complain that their child should not have gotten in trouble. It becomes very hard to provide any sense of discipline for the child when parents are undermining the consequences. In my classes, both parents and students sign the syllabi at the beginning of each semester to agree to the classroom and school policies, but this does not stop parents from marching down to the school the second their child is held accountable to the rules that they agreed to. Parents and teachers should be partners in educating the child from a disciplinary perspective. When parents are immediately insisting that any consequences for their child should be erased or retracted, all the child learns is that the rules don’t apply to them if their parents simply bully their teacher and/or school administration into submission.

This is actually how almost all bullying and severe disruption is allowed occur. I laughed at the Ed Sec’s statement about school needing to be a “safe haven”, what about the rights of students who have their “safe haven” taken away by you allowing sociopaths to continue to attend school? You force students to attend an environment with sociopaths and then refuse to punish or control them. Because teachers and adults always turn away from bullying they wouldn’t tolerate with adults because at some point they decide the child belongs to their parents and are afraid of them.

But Major League Baseball allows its players to bet on other sports. Then again, it bans for life players for betting on baseball (e.g., Pete Rose is still not in the Hall of Fame for betting on ballgames, despite no conclusive evidence that he was throwing games like Shoeless Joe Jackson and the other Chicago Black Sox did in the 1919 World Series.)

In the rest of the world generally registered athletes either pro or of significant amateur status are often simply not allowed to register an account or bet on anything not just their own sport. The logic being that any situation where an athlete takes losses gambling makes them susceptible to trying to fix the outcome of some bet on their own or teams performance to win it back. What’s interesting is that now we have these online bookmakers they can do it from their own initiative they don’t have to be recruited by a bookie they meet in real life. The illegal bookies may never know they are athletes either.

Of course there is no way to stop them using others to proxy bet for them but you’re not really going to get any takers for normal proxy betting, your friends and relatives are probably going to stop taking your money if you lose too often, they’d probably be more interested in you providing fixes for them. But online gambling is so easy to parse for weird patterns (And to find out if the people betting have some relationships to players) and in person often has lower limits.

(Of course you have a conflict of interest, if you’re an illegal bookmaker you could take huge stakes on one outcome and decide to make sure you keep the money by getting guys in hock to you to help fix the outcome) Further the added hassle using them and risk of your balance not being paid back means only those athletes with serious gambling addiction problems use them. Particularly with the aforementioned situation of if you put on a big bet, your illegal bookie drafting in somebody who has lost big to help fix the bet. (Maybe they even lost big from the bookie doing it to them!) I can’t imagine you could ever trust them.

This has all come out in Italy in a staggering scandal where a huge proportion of the top Italian players were found to be using illegal unregistered bookmakers who took huge stakes. A key element in Chuck Lorre’s new show “Bookie” (Excellent premise and lead actor that he manages to utterly waste in true hack Lorre fashion, not worth watching) is the character fearing the looming apocalypse of sportsbooks becoming legal in California. I doubt it, over half the population of voters is female and you have a real other issue in Indian casino sportsbooks losing out, having votes on legal sportsbooks isn’t going to have the result you think. Say there are 10 people deciding to bet (Legally) at the race track. However much they all bet is the total pot that is won. How much a winner gets is determined by how many winners there are and how much they put on the winner. So it’s divided proportionally among the winners (If any) based on how much they wagered. The key is, there is no bookmaker. I don’t know what happens to the money with no winner or if they sometimes have minimum prize pools.

Taking that money to advertise did increase the amount of problem gamblers among the public though, how much is hard to say though, it seems like TV ads, word of mouth and the internet did vastly more to advertise than the leagues. Abstract

This essay explores the critical relationships among trans studies, game studies, and the environmental humanities to evaluate trans ecological media. I center two distinct gaming sites: a board game, Wingspan, and a social media phenomenon, Bowsette, based on Nintendo’s video game, Super Mario Bros. These media tacitly incorporate tranimality into their ludic matrices. Within Wingspan, trans reproduction (male birds laying eggs) becomes the skeleton key to success. As a trans femme icon, Bowsette emerges through fan art and social media to imagine a means for Mario’s nemesis, Bowser, to transition into a romantic partner as a result of a mushroom super crown. The opportunity to play with trans birds, turtles, and fungi on digital and analog platforms makes evident that games have always been trans.

This introduction puts into conversation two seemingly divergent analytics: transgender studies and animal studies. It asks: How does the prefixial nature of trans—across, into, and through: a prepositional force—further transfigure the “animal turn”? In “Queering and Transing the Great Lakes: Filipino/a Tomboy Masculinities and Manhoods across Waters,” I use a Filipino/a queer trans (transnational/transgender/transwaters) and postcolonial approach to examine Nice Rodriguez’s semiautobiographical fiction in his/her collection of short stories, Throw It to the River (1993). Based in Toronto, Canada (on Lake Ontario), from 1988 to 2004, Rodriguez, a self-identified Filipino/a tomboy writer, addresses themes of migration, immigration, displacement, and class/poverty; the US-Marcos dictatorship; queer desire, love, sexuality; and tomboy masculinities and manhoods in his/her stories. By critically reading Rodriguez’s stories, in this essay, I also theorize how the Great Lakes or Great Lakes region functions as a transnational water-based border zone or crosscurrents space in the “(Upper) Midwest” that links Filipino sites in the diaspora such as Duluth, Minnesota, and Toronto, as well as how these waters also connect with other waterscapes in the Philippines such as the Pasig River and Manila Bay.

The only hitch has been the fuckup with Ukraine. They put more legitimacy on the line there than they had originally budgeted. I suspect this was due to TDS and the successful transference of it to Putin. Women on social media who had no understanding of the context went hysteric on social media and they put so much on the line rhetorically and in terms of their potential red-pilling when they realise what’s going on that the US can’t afford to lose what was previously just a freebie proxy war, only Ukraine was supposed to lose.

With US hegemony now waning and about to be demolished (Kicking Russia out of SWIFT and forcing them to build an alternative they never would have bothered with otherwise will go down as the biggest mistake) there is also the sense of it being “now or never” for the US to finally go to war with Iran and Syria for Israel.

It’s difficult to imagine this situation in Gaza is not designed to make everyone in the world hate the Jews. It doesn’t really make any strategic sense, unless that is the goal.

It’s designed to ethnically cleanse Gaza and fob the Palestinians living there on other countries in a form which nullifies any UN-mandated right to return like we see with the Palestinians in Jordan and Lebanon by no longer having them legally refugees. It was possible to set up those refugee camps the way they did in the past but in current year the 2 million Palestinians will be given asylum and paths to citizenship elsewhere in a form which nullifies their legal right to return.

They’re already beginning to trickle out. The Icelandic government went out of it’s way to facilitate the emigration of at least 72 so far Palestinians from Gaza to link up with family already in Iceland.

For the ones afraid of going too far it’s a reason to stop, for the ones who want to push all the way to a war with Iran and the US, it’s a reason to use this unique opening to go all the way. The big change since 2014 has been a massive burst of influence from Tumblr types and their ideology. Years ago I learned about how anti-apartheid activists basically drew up a pyramid of the South African government and Afrikaner society. Seemingly minor things that weren’t well defended actually propped up other, more important things.

And what they wanted to do is use their golem while they still could given the once in a lifetime opportunity of October 7th (Apparently achieved by the Israeli apaches killing hundreds of young Israeli festival goers) to slide into this war and the failure of their neocon cousins to take down the Russians with sanctions but success in still starting the war an the Russians still being bogged down there. This has resulted in further pressure for no or never, they have a free hand to do this, the Russians are occupied and the US has begun it’s descent from world hegemon.

The sole question that needs to be asked of Kirby and Blinken is simple “Is there any circumstance where Israel and Iran find themselves at war that the US won’t intercede on Israel’s behalf? And is there any reason to not treat the obvious Israeli actions to provoke this war based on an assumption of US intervention to fight Iran for Israel no matter the context as the agenda of the Israeli government? Therefore is there any reason to believe this war is not inevitable given your appeasement of the Israelis? And is your appeasement of the Israelis because you want this war too or because you’re scared of them and their lobby in the US?”

Or put into soundbite format. “Why should anyone believe your state department policy doesn’t ensure this war is inevitable?”

Because covering the real story, the inevitably successful attempts by the Israelis to spark a war with Iran that the US will be obliged to fight for them in a conflagration that will change world history is “complicated”. At least it still is in New York City for reasons that are also “complicated” and won’t be gotten into.

The part that seems to have gone wrong is the economic war was a total failure, indeed it failed within weeks of the start of hostilities. The banks actually tried to warn them, desperately trying to tell the white house that kicking the Russians out of SWIFT wasn’t going to go well. They thought they were cutting off a lifeline, instead they were cutting a chain from their neck. Immediately the Russians and Chinese worked together to produce an alternative system, something they never would have bothered to do if not forced to create an alternative international payments system that is beyond Washington and Wall Steet’s control and influence. This was cheered on by the third world and has been taken up and integrated all over the non-Western world. So the US golem is now a rapidly declining asset, this combined with Russia being temporarily bogged down in Ukraine, Netanyahu’s fate being tied to pushing this to a regional war with Iran like he always promised he would gift to Israel, a US war on Iran make it now or never, they’ll also never get away with just ethnically cleansing 2 million again. (Except in the shadow of the “new Shoah” of October 7th which also brought a massive US flotilla presence ready to start a war) So the logic is simple, ethnically cleanse Gaza and use that to provoke a war with Iran and or Syria and have the US fight them while the Russian military is otherwise occupied. The Russians too, have been very cautious and not gone in for occupying (At least very quickly leaving a lot of civilians still there, going slow allows them to leave) large areas of Ukraine full of super-majorities or even entirely composed of ethnic Ukrainians. To do this would mean Russia dealing with an insurgency for years if not decades. So the Russians have failed to “eat the porcupine” and in going slow have been slowly destroying entire NATO arsenals of aircraft and tanks as they drip in. This will be profitable for American arms companies as these stocks need to be replaced but contrary to the idea of the military-industrial complex, such companies don’t control if the US goes to war, only if bad projects continue to get funding. It is actually more inconvenient for a US president to start a war of aggression than have Lockheed be mad at them. (This was actually the stated motivation for the conspiracy in “The Lone Gunmen” pilot, the word Israel was never spoken even though it’s both the reason the Middle East is full of “tinpot dictators begging to the smart-bombed”, can’t allow democracy because it’ll be anti-Zionist but then pro-US dictators either go rogue or get deposed by other authoritarian forces and why the US is in conflict with them.)

By also extending the war the Russians keep the farce going and cause a lot of people to write checks with their mouths and generally delegitimise the US even more. Losing a quick couple of month war in Ukraine is one thing, losing a 2-4 year campaign is devastating. Actually I think the hysteria of social media and Putin Derangement Syndrome seems to have made this war into something more of a test of US legitimacy than it was ever intended to be (They knew Ukraine would lose so why start the war if the cost of losing for the US was such an existential loss of legitimacy?) due to the vast reserve army of chronic social media posters in the form of 15 year old girls with septum piercings (Who should, by rights be the natural enemies of neocon wars but Putin Derangement Syndrome was so powerful. They expected and believed in “Slava Ukraini” and supported the US state department using Ukraine as a giant human shield in their ignorance. But why is this so? What is this demonic force that drives some human animals to oppress others?

There is a constant drum-beat in the arts that this is all just “human nature”. But in truth some peoples, like some individuals think they are superior to others and like to hurt outgroups for it’s own sake. In essence the collective personality of certain nations and peoples is simply psychopathic.

Both the English in the 18th and 19th century and the Jews have as you alluded, a concept of themselves as special chosen people from others they can take as they wish.

This is generally an unusual thing. Off the top of my head, only the Germans, Japanese and Chinese have really ingrained ideas of their people being special and superior to others in a deep innate way. And the Germans have spent decades now going the other direction, sometimes in extreme ways so cross them off the list. Though both Turkey and Azerbaijan have a similar mentality to Israel in that both see the land occupied by their historic victims of ethnic cleansing as theirs and their national destiny being to “finish the job” with respect to Greeks and Armenians respectively.

These peoples naturally produce right wing nationalism that is supremacist, it is borne out of deep emotions of contempt and needs to find it’s satisfaction in abusing outgroups. In most left wing nationalism it is based on deep affection for ones group and is inward-looking and pro-social. Right wing nationalism is often an echo of the same contempt for social inferiors and love of inequality when no outgroup is around. It can only be pro-social when addressing invasive ingroups, it becomes hostile once there is none around.

Some people have sociopathic collective psychologies and personalities. This is linked to cluster B personality disorders which are deeply heritable and based strongly on an instinct of contempt for social inferiors and others in general.
