RSSTuition costs for my junior year at UCLA in 1952 were about $49 per semester and my student activity photo ID punch card, which included entry to all sporting events, cost $8.
The tuition cost differentials between then and now are not primarily a consequence of academic needs, but of irrational socio/cultural policies. Most folks I talk to in my age bracket express shock and awe not only at the monstrously high and utterly unjustifiable college tuition costs of today, but at the complacency of the current generation that tolerates the pervasive damage they are doing to our social democracy. College debt has become so overwhelming, it is now among the most important socio/poltical issues of the times.
With issues such as above in mind, let me suggest that it is time for The Unz Review to cross a dangerous threshold into TV country: Assemble the necessary financial and staff resources to take over, rebuild and enliven the TV franchise formerly run by Aljazeera America.
All TV news/commentary outfits and most internet opinion sites severely limit what commentary is allowed within their realm and tend to furl in on themselves when it comes to the discussions or analyses of the narrow lists that are admitted.
The Unz Review, more than any other journalistic review, has taken edgy, challenging internet opinion to a very special place by not only allowing, but encouraging open journalism on a widly diverse and lively scale: competitive commentary, links and their contradictions.
To take that same vitally important challenge to TVland would be a real change of state in Tv journalism. I believe there would be a multiple flow of audience adnadvertising toward same.

You write with the charm of a novel argument Mr. Giraldi, impressed, I must add, with the stamp of a damn good thinker. I attempt to examine whatever you write with an open but critical mind, and, to a great extent, usually agree. Although you offer here an interpretation of “social justice lunacy” with a penetration that exceeds most commentators, I must bluntly reject the idea that it is something exploited against only “Caucasian male domination”, “Caucasian” being the questionable qualifier. Bill Cosby has been publicly overwhelmed by the “social justice lunacy” mob, and, in objective respect, he ain’t no Caucasian. “Male is their key qualifier, at least at this point. The male animal is their object, and, as such, he, I mean, “they”, has got to be eliminated

According to a recent report by a research group at John Hopkins School of Medicine, 250,000 Americans die each year from medical blunders and safety lapses. Let me emphasize that horrifying, hard-to believe statistic: 25o,000, each year! – – – – 250,000! – – – – each year!
Talk about human objectification! Now that is certainly something to scream about!
Wow, a short earthquake of an article! Anyone interested in exploring and understanding the sources, links and overall grim facts of contemporary America’s broad socio/cultural decline can start with this brief, arresting analysis of festering neoliberal hypocrisy and social nihilism in our malformed pharma/med field.
Publishing and re-publishing the hard facts of such egregious scandals and cover-ups won’t necessarily change this long and ongoing political situation, but will certainly help the drive for reform. On a personal level, such articles also help alleviate the psychic sense of political isolation felt by many politically frustrated citizens like me.
However, there is something that can change political situations on a heavy scale: If Mr. Unz would employ what could be his riveting new TV channel to air a compelling documentary series on the subjects covered in this article, he would be on his way to sparking a sharp shift in the in the Nation’s political and social trajectory. And, my god, what a relief it would lend to my aging political frustration.
In the meantime, lest readers assume the Vioxx case is an uncommon occurrence, recent research at the John Hopkins School of Medicine, among several confirming studies, shows that things in the American health care and medical world are bad and getting worse: There has been a high degree of tolerance in the American medical community and the mainstream media of medical blunders and safety errors in hospitals and other health care facilities that cause the deaths of 251,000 Americans every year —- 251,000 deaths — every year! Only heart disease and cancer kill more. This is truly a massive national crisis and scandal toward which political powers have lent nada and which gets pitifully small coverage in the mainstream media, only busy covering Orlando Bloom’s flagrant display of his penis.
If Mr.Unz can go for the creation of Unz TV, then, along with the Vioxx story, he could air the related John Hopkins research story while firing-up public awareness and just outrage about how they are broadly linked to the decline of our common society.
The 251, 000 deaths from medical blunders I indicated above equates to 9.5% of all American deaths annually, 700 preventable deaths a day, twice as many as from all accidents!
We should be also mindful that the 251,000 deaths figure does not include extremely severe injuries and harm suffered by patients as a result of preventable medical errors such as giving wrong drugs to patients or removing wrong body parts. Some estimates indicate the number of errors at 40 times the death rate!
American medical care is clearly suffering an incompetence epidemic af crisis proportions, exacerbated by a malformed Pharma industry that has risen to be an omnipresent advertising monster in the main media, especially on TV, a juggernaut under the wheels of which our greed blinded main media throws itself for fat ad fees.
The implications of the broad journalistic control this can give Pharma are enormous and should worry us all. By ignoring Pharma’s malformed ascendancy and the related scandal of incompetent medical care, the main media not only supports both, but also supports their linkages to much more that is grossly and obviously amiss in American socio/political culture within which every concept and corner is either dominated or thoroughly commoditized by neoliberal ideology.
The same neocon/libs who constantly and hypocritically rebuke Trump for his ill-advised anti-Moslem rantings, Hillary among them, are the same cynical folks who hide the fact that they not only originally scripted, systematically introduced and normalized egregiously invidious anti-M0slem rhetoric into the public conversation, but promoted or supported the launching of a series of unnecessary American wars that resulted in the maiming and slaughter of millions of Moslem people and destruction of entire Moslem societies .
An especially galling example of the neocon/lib knack for hypocrisy aired awhile back on Hillary supporter Bill Maher’s TV show. Maher’s special guest was evolutionist Richard Dawkins, infamously tiresome pitchman for intellectual bigotry, who cut an incredibly squalid figure as anti-Moslem stand-up comic. Aside from his monotonous ambiguities of secular indignation was his smirking ritual of utter disdain, replete with anti-Moslem bigotry of the most vicious kind: essentially veiled racism.
Avidly sharing reflections of Dawkin’s stark anti-Moslem bigotry and waspish, scholarly spitefulness, super vulgarian Bill Maher, typically more foul and cynical, schmoozed and bragged with Dawkins on their shared superiority. The two elitist bigots, in one harmonious voice absolved themselves and their obsequious audience ( essentially ordinary folks turned snarling, laughing hyenas) from the most common and basic standards of human decency by viciously demeaning the entire vast Moslem world, its cultures and diverse peoples. It was classic neocon/lib “normalization of deviance” in an extreme form
