From Karl Rove, quoted in today’s NY Times:

Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.

Right. On.

Democrats are now calling on Rove to apologize. Apologize? For what?

For distilling the fundamental difference between the left and the right’s approaches to terrorism in the wake of 9/11.

The Dems are having a hissyfit over the comments, as if stating the obvious is on par with slandering American troops and invoking hysterical analogies.

You know the word: U-n-h-i-n-g-e-d.

Drudge reports:

Senate Dems Clinton, Schumer, Lautenberg, and Corzine will respond to Rove’s remarks today at 1:15p LIVE from Radio/TV Gallery… Developing…

More circus entertainment brought to you by the party of make-believe and the alternate reality-based community.

Stay tuned…

::rolling eyes:: “Rove must resign.”

Update II: 425pm. John Kerry just took to the Senate floor and completed a pathetic little statement in response to Rove. Fumed about Rove “challenging the patriotism of every American.” Called on President Bush to demand an apologize or fire Rove. And this: “For Karl Rove to equate Democratic policy on terror to indictments or therapy or to suggest that the Democratic response to 9/11 was weak is disgraceful.”

The truth hurts.

Update III: The Political Teen has video of Hillary’s response.

Right on the Right: Durbinizing Rove

ABP: Rove nails it

Red State: Tim Saler responds.

Captain Ed:

“What we have here, in this demand for a retraction after a season of personal attacks from Howard Dean, Harry Reid, and the entire leadership of the Democratic Party is pusillanimity at its most hypocritical. Talk about dishing it out and not being able to take it! That the party of Harry Truman has descended to this jaw-dropping level of political cowardice and sheer crybaby status boggles the mind.

Small wonder that the American electorate has shut Democrats out of power during this epic period of national security crises. Who would trust these wimps to defend themselves, let alone anyone else?

More ABP: “[T]he Democrats have made a horrible strategic mistake to contest Mr. Rove’s words. They have just confirmed in the minds of average Americans what they already believe: Democrats are not ready for prime time in the war against terror.”

Dirty Harry: “If Democrats were half as opposed to terrorists as they are to Janice Rogers Brown… If they were half as offended by 9/11 as they are by a splash of urine on a Koran… If they were half as determined to defeat al-Queda as they are Bolton…”

Flashback, December 2002: Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) exhibits the let’s-understand-why they-hate-us approach to fighting terrorism:

We’ve got to ask, why is this man [Osama bin Laden] so popular around the world? Why are people so supportive of him in many countries … that are riddled with poverty? He’s been out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilities, and the people are extremely grateful. We haven’t done that. How would they look at us today if we had been there helping them with some of that rather than just being the people who are going to bomb in Iraq and go to Afghanistan?

1026pm. Last call on this subject for the night…

Lefty Peter Daou tries to stir up his comrades, but milbloggers Blackfive and Baldilocks’ Juliette Ochieng are all over his feigned outrage. Juliette gets the last word:

Soldiers get their lives endangered but no one is supposed to say jack. Liberals get their feelings hurt and scream bloody murder.

It’s enough to make you a bit cynical.
