Trump does not repeat phrases like other politicians, I noticed online drinking game rules are not specific as to when to drink, they use more general phrases.
I think for old times sake he should say ‘Yuge’ at least once.
Well as a random open thread thing I’ve been meaning to say this somewhere while not taking the time to argue over tons of other topics for the year. Regardless of petty bickering and immediate events (the public forgets everything by months later, moreover Trump and the current Congress simply can’t *do* anything) the media narrative on the 2018 midterms is wrong.
The R’s probably have a 90% chance of holding the Senate (at least counting 50+VP) and same for the House. These are not perfectly correlated but no “blue wave” or anything. That doesn’t mean 2020 won’t be a massive shakeup, just a combination of gerrymandering will make for only moderate losses and not a loss of majority in the House and the favorable Senate map means it’s far too likely the Dems lose at least one individual seat so can’t net a majority. (I actually think it’s more likely the Republicans outright gain net Senate seats that lose)
The media/poll outfits (and crazy alt-right Internent sources, which share some delusions or have invented delusions of their own) are now wrong on just about every level. The white middle class is far more Republican than commonly believed, not just the overexaggerated lower class coal miners; Hispanics/blacks are more Dem than in faulty survey data but don’t matter in most relevant races, the age gaps are larger than reported, and the way the shill/chattering class believes public opinion works remains wrong. Advertising etc doesn’t influence votes much at all.
I am in agreement with D.K. We may watch a DVD movie, but I’m not sure I remember how to tune in the digital TV from over-the-air even anymore. Like I said, if I knew some mayhem was gonna ensue, I’d be at the bar to catch this.
I’d rather read y’all’s comments about it in the morning. In my opinion, learning from reading gets at the real truth more than viewing a speaker, as the facial expressions can give wrong impressions.
I wish there were youtube videos of George Washington’s farewell speech. I’d have liked to see that great man speak.
Lot’s of hype and buildup for something that is essentially ceremonial with far too many standing ovations and symbolic guests.
It would be nice if the president would read the criminal record of the ex-con, fraudster, illegal alien invited by the Democrats.
What would be really cool is if he could read the memo and get the Republican side to start shouting “Lock Them Up!”
One wonders what negative news the deep state and media might be holding for release tomorrow morning, to take the luster off what will probably be a fine performance tonight.
One wonders what negative news the deep state and media might be holding for release tomorrow morning
That Ruth Bader is, in fact, a real lizard person. But, I confess to confusion of whether that revelation would be negative or positive for the deep state.
“the memo” as in The Memo just approved by committee for public release. Imagine what a great Trump stunt that would be, during the State of the Union Address:
“I hereby agree to the release of The Memo, and I will now read from it…”
if Trump can convince Americans that the welfare state can no longer afford the economic burden of chain migration, then the speech will have been worth the effort
I don’t really see the point. I imagine Trump will say a lot of stuff to piss a lot of people off, but that’s just what he does. Like most presidents, what he says and what ends up happening are two different things.
It would be nice if he called ICE on all the illegals that are going to protest it, but I doubt he will.
Maybe some loser Democrat will broadcast a reaction with some carefully-selected regular Joes in a diner somewhere like last year, to give the impression that he doesn’t want to replace them all with Guatemalans, but that would probably be the funniest thing thatnwould happen.
So, I’ll probably just watch an old X-Files, unless I can find someone doing a decent livestream on YouTube.
Apparently, there will be a response featuring ten powerful activists, introduced by ten powerful influencers, including Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Debra Messing, and even Wil Wheaton!
You don’t get much more powerful than Wil Wheaton.
I watched last year’s; I cannot bear tuning into this year’s.
Didn’t watch last year, but agreed. Trump can be entertaining but his absolutely lack of verbal facility–perhaps willingness–to really nail down a case for much of anything is just too painful to watch.
The first debate with Hillary, where he had so many choice openings to make the nationalist case–and absolutely savage Hillary and end the election–but was lazily unprepared and rhetorically dull–was painful and exhausting to watch. (The only joy was that Hillary is such an unpleasant creature, Trump didn’t come off too badly.)
Rather just read what he said and get the disappointment over faster.
Just to be clear: I hope Trump totally goes after it. Take no prisoners alpha.
We’re at the point on this immigration thing–a true existential crisis for the nation–where it’s simply necessary to tell the truth and say words like “treason party”, “find no one, even criminals that they don’t believe should live here”, “want open borders” and “have contempt for ordinary Americans and want to replace you with foreigners”.
I’d love to watch Trump say those things. But more “i’m making America great” porridge is what i expect.
Unlike Obama, Trump doesn’t give anodyne speeches; he uses the bully pulpit effectively for his agenda and goals (this is the man who used Twitter quips to become president, after all). Last year he did the speech to Congress well, this year I expect him to be punching as he usually does.
Everyone thought Obama was going to be a bully pulpit president because his followers gushed over how great he spoke, but it turns out he was merely a good but common speaker who used empty phrases and had no interest in doing anything besides getting elected, going golfing, and hanging out with Jay Z. So if the speech wasn’t about those things, he wasn’t energized at all.
I hate, hate, hate these things, no matter who is doing it.
I tuned in for a few minutes. Just happened to catch Trump saying “African American unemployment is at its lowest ever,” which was followed by the camera showing us a bunch of Negroes looking sullen and resentful, with one guy doing a golf clap.
Ehh, whatever. These things go off into the ether and disappear. They never matter.
He’s going really heavy on the “Lenny Skutniks” (the people brought in as guests/rhetorical props). I think the idea is to push the populist theme. I think also this is the first time a President has given an unreserved remark in defense of the 2nd Amendment at a SOTU.
He got the GOP standing ovation for a $1.5 trillion dollar spending bill, that’s kind of the most interesting thing so far. Seems like we’re in for an objectively good, but, from our point of view generic and useless, speech.
Edit– GOP standing up for paid family leave too. Good.
I hate SOTUs. They’re nothing but contrived televised pep rallies. I was hoping that Trump’s would be a bit more unscripted and in-your-face (in other words, Trumpist) …but unfortunately not.
So far, 40 minutes in, it’s nothing but a self-congratulatory/patriotic jack-off.
That being said, it is kinda neat to see the Democrats pouting and acting all butthurt and childish and immature, with their stupid passive-aggressive protest crap like wearing black and not applauding. The sane part of the public has got to notice how silly they look.
Just happened to catch Trump saying “African American unemployment is at its lowest ever,” which was followed by the camera showing us a bunch of Negroes looking sullen and resentful, with one guy doing a golf clap.
Jeez. It never ends with these people. They were rioting when the last guy was president, but they loved him.
I really hope everyone in the country saw that, so they can understand what happens when you try to help them. They probably didn’t, but hopefully someone can make it go viral on YouTube.
Trump is finally starting to hit pay dirt an hour in. Now he’s talking about securing the border, ending the diversity lottery, and ending chain migration.
The line “Americans are dreamers, too” was BRILLIANT.
The Dems are looking really stupid, sitting and pouting when Trump talks about securing the border.
When Corey Booker got all fake mad at Trump calling Haiti a shithole, he literally looked like a freaking monkey flipping out in a cage; his face was hilarious. I really hope someone gets a hold of him and makes him never do that again, it really will make people make monkey jokes about him, which would be ironic, given he’s probably the smartest black member of Congress:
Yeah it’s not the most exciting speech, and it follows the usual formula. But it does have some substantive content.
And so far Trump is doing a good job looking and acting like a normal president. This might help to make some people realize he is a pretty normal guy, not the unhinged racist lunatic that the media and entertainment and academics constantly portray him as.
The bar has been set so low for him that he can’t fail to impress.
Good speech. If a Democrat had made it, the Democrats would be wetting themselves. Next, let’s see if Trump delivers. So far he has done OK. Lowering drug prices, modernizing infrastructure, and reforming immigration would be decent achievements for 2018.
Atop the dome of this capital stands the statue of freedom. She stands tall and dignified among the monuments to our ancestors, who fought and lived and died to protect her. Monuments to Washington, and Jefferson, and Lincoln, and King. Memorials to the heroes of Yorktown, and Saratoga. Two young Americans who shed their blood on the shores of Normandy and the fields beyond, and others who went down in the waters of the Pacific and the skies all over Asia. Freedom stands tall over one more monument. This one. This capitol. This living monument. This is the monument to the American people.
We are a people whose heroes live not only in the past, but all around us, defending hope, pride, and defending the American way. They work in every trade, they sacrifice to raise a family. They care for our children at home. They defend our flag abroad. They are strong moms and brave kids. They are firefighters and police officers and border agents, medics, and Marines. Above all else, they are Americans. This capital, the city, this nation, belongs entirely to them.
Our task is to respect them, to listen to them, to serve them, to protect them, and to always be worthy of them. Americans fill world with ardent music. They push the balance of science and discovery. They forever remind us of what we should never ever forget. The people dreamed this country. The people own this country. It is the people who are making America great again.
Anybody else noticed those dashiki or whatever thingies the Congressional Black Caucus is wearing?
Yeah, I even noticed a little old Asian chick I didn’t recognize wearing one as well. Maybe it’s a promotion for that new Black Panther comic book movie that’s supposed to come out soon?
From a persuasion point of view, this SOTU was brilliant. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it outside of a movie — maybe even including movies.
The people whom he brought couldn’t have been heartrending in their stories and their emotions. It was if it all had been done by careful design, but it was 100% authentic. It had a perfection you almost never see in real life.
You’d have to have a heart of stone not to feel enormous sympathy for them.
Even the gestures were incredible: the black man who lost his daughter to the gangs spontaneously shook the hand of the soldier who had displayed great bravery; the man from North Korea thrusting his crutches into the air.
Yeah as others have said, the point of this speech was to make Trump palatable to the suburban GOP voters who might otherwise agree with him but are repulsed by the boorishness of this past year. If he can keep this tone up and not revert back then we might have turned a corner here. Time will tell.
Also I thought it was hilarious how Joe Manchin was the first to stand up and applaud every time, and was one of the last to sit down. What a shameless hack.
You think they made Melania sit next to that twelve-year-old kid all night to make sure Lindsey Graham didn’t start sniffing around?
And the whole thing looked like an Anglican service–sit, stand, sit, stand.
Don nailed it on immigration but should’ve ended the thing at the one-hour mark. Maybe he was trying to outlast the people who were planning to criticize his remarks when the thing was finally over?
Just about every member of the Congressional Black Caucus was either fiddling with their phone or sitting there with a face that looked like they were just released from the suicide ward.
It was better than expected. Certainly better than any SOTU in the past 20 yrs. B+/A-
Trump is getting good advice, and converting Normies at a good pace.
Let the Libtard media hiss & writhe. Let the Hive seethe & hector….but too bad: Patriotism is Back!
And the baby adopted by white people, was WHITE. That was freaking awesome.
And that North Korean dude with the crutches and the real tears. Wow. Just wow. And I am saying that as one cold hearted bastard who thinks we should have tanks at the borders locked, loaded and hot from shooting.
What’s the point of bringing in the parents of the two girls killed by MS-13 illegal “minors”, then go on to tell them he’s going to give amnesty to 1.8 million illegals, 3x the number Obama was going to give? Just to rub it in their faces?
No mention whatsoever of the wall, or any cuts to H1b or legal immigration. He’s cucking big time.
My worst drinking experience ever was drinking shots of brandy for every time Al Gore said “lockbox”. No memory and woke up face down in a pile of my own vomit. Of course, I blame Gore and leftists, not brandy, which is a gift from God.
The camera angles tried to minimize the spectacle of Dems trying to figure out if they should stand or clap. Some looked like they were sucking lemons or live goldfish. Most sat through lines such as “The people dreamed this country. The people own this country.” making it appear that they don’t agree.
Yes indeed. I was glad that I happened to tune in for that part. (Though I’m the only person in my familial unit who approves.) Next time I looked he was talking about how the world doesn’t show proper respect to Israel so I switched it off for good.
Did anyone notice that when people in the chamber started chanting “USA, USA” Representative Luis Gutierrez (traitor to the country and supporter of DACA and other illegals) got up and walked out? He had to let everyone know what a bit seditious traitor he is.
I knew Trump was a legit smart guy when he looked at Hillary in the second debate and asked her, or told her (he kept it ambiguous, in that way he does): “you have so much hatred in your heart….”. (remember she is pro-choice and publicly unrepentant on her role in Benghazi….)
That was a good moment, and when his Supreme Court list had Gorsuch on it, I realized he was not kidding about trying to understand what was going on (in that case, what was going on in the rowdy fraternity row world of liberal appellate courts….a world whose insiders used to imagine they were far far above the understanding of political candidates – if you want to know what is fueling Dershowitz, it is a desire not to look stupid anymore)
Well, I knew it (that Trump was politically sound and, like Reagan, had his heart more or less in the right place) long before then, but I am just throwing out some examples. That being said, I still don’t know what was up with his henchmen on the Apprentice show from 10 to 15 years ago. It is kind of rare for someone to get so much more intelligent in his 60s than he was in his 50s (my numbers could be off a little). I mean, I watched that show, and I thought a lot less of Trump than of, say, Gordon Ramsey. Live and learn, I guess.
Joe Kennedy’s speech: screw the rich, yo soy Tim Kaine, and the always crowd-pleasing line “this is not who we are.” Whenever he shifted to delivering an uplifting message he sounded indistinguishable from the SotU itself, but I guess that’s to be expected when your “response” speech is written before you know the content of the speech you’re responding too.
Trump made the immigration meeting public to prove that he is not in fact wandering around the White House lost and drooling on himself, as the media-feted Wolff book would have you believe.
Then he said “shithole”.
It’s just a matter of time before something… not that we can’t spin it our way, of course.
Whoever the genius was with the idea to put a Kennedy in front of a jacked-up car ought to be fired tomorrow morning. Kennedys and cars together don’t call up happy memories.
I literally lol’d. Why would want that image? Someone posted a picture:
The only thing nearly as bad would have had a small plane behind him, too, for JFK Jr.
Pelosi actually turned around and yelled at one sitting behind her who clapped.
CBS News YouGov poll 75% approve of speech, with 97% of Repubican, 43% of Democrat, and 72% of Independent speech watchers approving. These are Reagan numbers. http://boards.4chan.org/pol/thread/158643651
Thanks for the critiques from everyone. I fell asleep during our movie, and just got up to check what happened on TV from you all. I don’t like the sappy stuff no matter how honest it is; it doesn’t tell me what the plan is.
Hey Chrisnonymous, funny, funny stuff there. I’m glad you didn’t end up like Jim Morrison back then. It makes you wonder what he was drinking to … maybe one shot every time he heard “hey ho, hey ho”.
Kennedys and cars together don’t call up happy memories.
Not only that, but starting at about nine seconds into this video, he starts talking about wading through floodwaters to save the life of a total stranger.
Joe Kennedy’s speech was revealing as to just how out of touch the Dems are. Talking about trannies and speaking in Spanish isn’t going to win them many normies.
Did anyone notice that when people in the chamber started chanting “USA, USA” Representative Luis Gutierrez (traitor to the country and supporter of DACA and other illegals) got up and walked out?
Yes, I did. It’s telling that during the part of the speech that was celebrating our founding, when the crowd was doing the USA chant, he chose to leave. I’ve always suspected that non-Europeans would not be able to totally embrace the founders, and I think Luis proved it.
With other Europeans who are not English, I think after assimilating they can look at paintings of the Founders and at least imagine some sort of connection even though they might not have actual English blood. But non-Europeans probably have a harder time doing this. So America’s past doesn’t really interest them. Obviously there are exceptions on both sides, like user Twinkie who seems to have a genuine connection to our Founders, and the myriad of whites today who hate their ancestors.
I daresay the Kopechne killing is a tad worse than JFK Jr flying into the drink, but then again both are called accidents. Could happen to anyone, right? Except of course that Teddy was blotto and Mary Jo may have been pregnant.
All of that is trivial, as I always take care to remind people, compared with the fact that Teddy didn’t call for help: no police, no ambulance, nothing. He went home and went to sleep. Now that’s privilege. The rest of us would likely be in prison for decades.
Even without the family history to call back to, having anyone appear on TV in front of a car with its hood up (other than maybe a NASCAR team) is just a bad look. It conveys something wrong, not working, and out of control. Especially with JPKIII’s pale face under those bright TV lights, he does look like he’s on the news because he was in a car accident in the middle of the night.
With a schizophrenic array of responses by five different Democratic politicians, I guess throwing in this generation’s Kennedy talking to a union hall was the “baseline” option.
It’s a peacock, for chrissakes. Not only can’t it provide emotional support (unless perhaps if you’re a looney) but it can fly to the destination all by itself if it wants to. I should work for the airlines.
The schizo-phrenzied responses shows that the intra-D civil war is still going on. Kennedy is the old guard’s pick to be the face, but the Bernie Bros loves thems some Bernies and hate whiteys gotta have their own race in there.
The Kennedy pick is a straight Boomer nostalgia thing. Sort of like how “blaming Russia” is for Boomers to invoke Cold War fears. As is the D attempt with Kennedy to go to old-fashioned working class whites—hence the car in a garage—and his stuff about income inequality, which sounds vaguely little-man-esque and thus FDR/JFK/LBJ social programs.
All these things might have worked in 1970 or 1988: a photogenic young Kennedy emphasizing the white working class, pushing class inequality over racial fears, and invoking the USSR as the bogeyman.
But it ain’t 1970 or 1988, it’s 2018. Gen xers and later have little of the wonderment at the Kennedy clan or fear of Russia or emotional association of D’s with white working class. Like the Lone Ranger film a few years ago, the mass majority of people today have little association with the brand.
A larger problem is Kennedy also spoke in Spanish (!) and whined about trannies. Yup, he went for the nonsensical World War T nonsense that is straight denial of reality, and then, as if to give us immigration folks a huge boost, decides to speak a foreign language to illegal foreigners in our country in a show of support for them.
Talk about handing us a gift; in a speech supposed be about the state of the AMERICAN nation to AMERICAN citizens the D’s decided to spend time speaking to FOREIGN people about the FOREIGN people’s problems—in a FOREIGN tongue. If the D’s deny that they are trying to change America, their response demonstrated otherwise in a unforced and large error.
We can expect more of this, ambitious Democrat politicians attempting to contain the ill-fitting multitudes their unnatural coalition now consists of, and trying to be all things to all people. Obama made it work through two elections. Hillary didn’t. Most of the rest will only be able to catch the attention of one little cultural or ethnic tranche in the Democratic base.
Obama’s win was about those years of promising whites a black savior figure who would be wise and wonderful and kind and loving and say all the right things and make everything better—the Magical Negro—-combined with the constant black presidents and authority figures pushed as benevolent wise men in films—The Black President trope.
But it turns out that was a one-time bamboozling. By 2012 whites were no longer stuck in that trap, hence why Obama is the only president in history to win a second term with fewer votes than he won the first time. That gap represents all the folks bamboozled by the vision of the Magical Negro President the first time.
Even if Obama could run again—or Michelle does—he could not pull it off based on the Magical Negro President fantasy, because that fantasy no longer exists.
Plus Obama ran against gay marriage and got the courts to do it for him. And the tranny thing wasn’t a thing for him to handle, it was just growing in the last 2 years.
Kennedy looked like some kind of 18th century French nobleman. It was so hard to take him seriously seeing him wearing makeup and lipstick combined with his hair. But it was miles better than Steve Beshear’s grumpy old man in a diner routine last year so I guess I’ll give him that.
Plus Obama ran against gay marriage and got the courts to do it for him. And the tranny thing wasn’t a thing for him to handle, it was just growing in the last 2 years.
Obama’s second term saw the Democratic Party and American left turn into a freak magnet, attracting every category of angry misfit with some ax to grind against the cishet white male patriarchy, or “the system,” or “capitalism,” or “the border that crossed them,” or whatever, and in some cases inventing whole new categories of such people. In 2008, unless you lived in San Francisco or were in a gender studies class somewhere, if you’d heard someone say “my pronouns are…,” you’d wonder what language they were speaking.
The big cultural and political question of the year is which is going to be more off-putting to more people: this freak show or President Trump. I’m getting the welcome sense that he might be finally figuring out that he does best when he looks, acts, and sounds like the President of the United States, and not a vulgar New York celebrity perpetually engaged in some personal spat or another on social media and in the press.
The people whom he brought couldn’t have been heartrending in their stories and their emotions. It was if it all had been done by careful design, but it was 100% authentic. It had a perfection you almost never see in real life.
My wife, who is, I suppose, less cynical than I, was really moved by some of Trump’s guests. And they were perfectly integrated into the speech.

If there is any justice in the world, the video of the Korean guy should go viral.
Why stop with the fasces? There are Roman Ionic columns and capitals, eagles, copious amounts of marble, references to God and Trust, Wood Panelling (remember UM), the American Flag (how racist can you get?) and on and on…not to mention the (half-) black guy has been replaced by a white guy, which wasn’t supposed to happen. Anyway, I hope you can see why they want to tear every single thing down. We won’t have justice–and hence, peace–until we’re all living in mud huts like they do in Mali.
I did not know that about the dime. I figured 1945 was the end date because of WW2. But wiki states it was because of FDR’s death and that a new design was made to honor him.
Here is some trivia for you. The US Army’s 45th Infantry Division had to change their shoulder patch prior to WW2. Click to see why.
That is absolutely begging to be parodied. Wig, lipstick and rouge, bejewelled garments, knee britches, goblet of champagne, and to complete the scene, Trump arriving deus ex machina and demanding lupines.
If we had an even-remotely independent media they’d be all over that.
Not all of the founders themselves were English. Andrew Jackson (fighting the British as an adolescent is as founding as it gets) and Alexander Hamilton come to mind immediately. There were not just Celts, either. Dutch, too, and French, etc.
(Are you one of those folks who call all white Europeans “Anglos,” too?)
Are peacocks capable of transoceanic flights? (I genuinely have no idea, but they don’t seem up for it….)
Now, an albatross…. Those critters regularly fly thousands of miles just to get a meal. Imagine living in Tacoma and heading to Miami just to grab dinner and bring it back. Fascinating creatures. Forgive me; I digress….
I think also this is the first time a President has given an unreserved remark in defense of the 2nd Amendment at a SOTU.
I’m pretty sure both Reagan and George H.W. Bush mentioned the 2nd Amendment in a similar context, but I guess I can’t say for sure you’re in error. It’s been a few years. I’m old enough, that I remember the original Lenny Skutnik’s jump into the ice-strewn water.
With other Europeans who are not English, I think after assimilating they can look at paintings of the Founders and at least imagine some sort of connection even though they might not have actual English blood. I have to admit that this is why I originally thought that the optics of the “Hamilton” musical were kind of genius, if they could work against this dynamic.
Then the cast of that show (who, to be fair, probably weren’t nearly as intelligent as the writer) revealed that they weren’t interested in using their platform to promote anything other than the crudest, dumbest form of identity politics. When they decided to stop that performance back in 2016 to lecture Mike Pence I knew it was over and that we’d been played again. Shouldn’t the message speak for itself (and be open to a less nakedly hostile interpretation) without us having to explicitly be told “Screw Whitey”?
It was the most popular symbol of the late imperial age. There was a brand of soap that refused to change, appending to their label “Hitler can go to hell” instead.
Good example. I imagine if Polish, Russian, Italian, etc., ethnics ever did a play about Hamilton, they probably wouldn’t feel the need to change his physical appearance.
I watched last year’s; I cannot bear tuning into this year’s. (I have set my alarm for tomorrow morning’s celestial event, however!)

I am in agreement with D.K. We may watch a DVD movie, but I’m not sure I remember how to tune in the digital TV from over-the-air even anymore. Like I said, if I knew some mayhem was gonna ensue, I’d be at the bar to catch this.

At least one “geddem ow da hee ah” would be nice.
Not even Stalin was able to force people to applaud that much.
I wish Trump would make it clear that the Democrats now care more about protecting illegal aliens than American citizens.
“Hope you’re prepared for a big beautiful blue tidal wave”
Sorry I’m still preparing for gloabalwarmingclimatechange
Anybody else noticed those dashiki or whatever thingies the Congressional Black Caucus is wearing?
I hate, hate, hate these things, no matter who is doing it.
I tuned in for a few minutes. Just happened to catch Trump saying “African American unemployment is at its lowest ever,” which was followed by the camera showing us a bunch of Negroes looking sullen and resentful, with one guy doing a golf clap.
Ehh, whatever. These things go off into the ether and disappear. They never matter.
Why is the Congressional Black Caucus dressed like extras from Coming To America?
You can hit a lot of targets around here with that particular bomb.
Where is Leonard Pitts when we need him?
He’s going really heavy on the “Lenny Skutniks” (the people brought in as guests/rhetorical props). I think the idea is to push the populist theme. I think also this is the first time a President has given an unreserved remark in defense of the 2nd Amendment at a SOTU.
Man that sounds like a barrel of laughs.
They got a promotion tie-in deal to promote the Black Panther movie about Wakanda?
How many NYT readers and lefties are surprised he doesn’t sound and look like Muhammad Ali in his last years?
Will they cite the characteristic sniffing as evidence of a stroke?
Looks like it’s past Bernie Sanders’s bedtime
Trump just used the phrase “alien minors.” #TheSteveosphereExpands
“Americans are dreamers too,” terrific reframe.
Appropriate and zinging line: “Americans are dreamers too.
Dang right. The man is a genius.
Wouldn’t it have been awesome if they had gone there wearing chains? To drive home Dick Durbin’s nonsense, I mean.
I’d be willing to bet that at least one of them seriously proposed doing that too, now that I think about it.
Yes it was.
I have to disagree with the negative comments… Trump is crushing it
Very white family adopts heroin baby. Great optics. Thanks for the “white people care” meme Mr. President.
Corey Booker looks like he just had a nasty spat with his boyfriend.
Oh hell yeah that would’ve been hilarious!
I’m betting that the Dems don’t take the immigration deal. They are willing to die for chain immigration and the diversity lottery.
Chuck Schumer looks like an overweight Montgomery Burns.
LOL – Spewed my beer!
There’s still next year.
Heck, at this rate the D’s will have six more to sit through. Who knows how triggered they’ll be in 2022 or 2023?
Agree.
Trump is on course to be one of the greatest Presidents.
Pretty amazing speech. People were crying after it. I am impressed. That is the best speech I have ever seen.
He just told a Congressman he’s gonna release the memo.
Agree.
Yeah, I even noticed a little old Asian chick I didn’t recognize wearing one as well. Maybe it’s a promotion for that new Black Panther comic book movie that’s supposed to come out soon?
That was awesome. Note perfect. AMERICANS are dreamers! ICE heroes vs MS 13! I enjoyed the hell out of that.
It really has to be the best SOTU ever recorded.
So far, not too shabby!
Trump! – Season 2 is going to be fun fun fun . . .
It was excellent.
Best lines of the night:
The people dreamed this country.
The people own this country.
Americans are dreamers too.
And the baby adopted by white people, was WHITE. That was freaking awesome.
And that North Korean dude with the crutches and the real tears. Wow. Just wow. And I am saying that as one cold hearted bastard who thinks we should have tanks at the borders locked, loaded and hot from shooting.
Yes. Booker needs an Organ Grinder to help him realize his full potential.
“You think they made Melania sit next to that twelve-year-old kid all night to make sure Lindsey Graham didn’t start sniffing around?”
Kudos. That is funny stuff.
Translation: Not looking good for Democrats when chain migration stops and the wall starts.
Loved the dig on the NFL anthem kneelers.
Wub wub wub wub wub
My worst drinking experience ever was drinking shots of brandy for every time Al Gore said “lockbox”. No memory and woke up face down in a pile of my own vomit. Of course, I blame Gore and leftists, not brandy, which is a gift from God.
Aren’t black people supposed to be, y’know, black anymore?
Or are we all past that now?
The camera angles tried to minimize the spectacle of Dems trying to figure out if they should stand or clap. Some looked like they were sucking lemons or live goldfish. Most sat through lines such as “The people dreamed this country. The people own this country.” making it appear that they don’t agree.
He did okay. His closing was very good.
Brandy is very good stuff indeed, especially in wintertime.
Concern troll is concerned.
Come on, Steve! Watching the State of the Union, like reading the New York Times, is what we pay you to do.
In that picture, Cory Booker looks like Baron Samedi in Live and Let Die casting a voodoo curse.
Google Shaun King for your answer.
Sounds like the database and young men of color favor similar targets.
“Americans are dreamers too.” Oh boy, there’s going to be some serious outrage over that.
Zoidbooker!
I literally lol’d. Why would want that image? Someone posted a picture:

The only thing nearly as bad would have had a small plane behind him, too, for JFK Jr.
It was a good speech with some really good lines. That is what the inauguration speech should have been like. He may be finding his groove now.
Thought Obama rid us of the white racist yet here they be? You bore.
Yeah, but it’s the kind of outrage they can’t really express without looking like assholes. That’s the best part.
Not only that, but starting at about nine seconds into this video, he starts talking about wading through floodwaters to save the life of a total stranger.
http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/30/politics/joe-kennedy-state-of-the-union-response/index.html
It’s quite an evocative image. Perhaps not the best one for him to bring up, though, honestly, I doubt the Democratic base will even know why not.
I know nothing whatsoever about Joe Kennedy except that he’s a Kennedy, but watching that video, he comes across as a total piece of crap.
Kinte cloth, I believe. OJ’s lawyers wore Kinte clothe ties once. Anyway, “Could a sh**hole” do this? was the idea.
Joe Kennedy’s speech was revealing as to just how out of touch the Dems are. Talking about trannies and speaking in Spanish isn’t going to win them many normies.
Thanks.
Note the Democrats not clapping for them.
LOL….Now that’s ironic: We brought Steve along to do the jobs real Americans won’t do?!
Hasn’t stopped them yet
The flight from white has bled into the flight from American/the West.

Grading the State of the Union

You will enjoy Steve’s post about Cherokees from earlier today.
‘Americans are dreamers too’ Laura Ingraham saying it last year
Anyone notice the fasces symbols on either side of the US flag at the House of Representatives?
Any idea how long those will remain? If they are going to take down Confederate statues, you’d think those fasces symbols would be on the list too.
Here is a blown up photo.
There’s a joke complaint on 4chan about the meanders. If only they knew what a fasces actually was.
Kennedy looked like some kind of 18th century French nobleman. It was so hard to take him seriously seeing him wearing makeup and lipstick combined with his hair. But it was miles better than Steve Beshear’s grumpy old man in a diner routine last year so I guess I’ll give him that.

My dear istevefan, from 1916 to 1945 the reverse of the U.S. Mercury dime sported a fasces: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_dime
Best part of watching tonight’s SOTU was getting to enjoy seeing all the Demon-crat $ellout$ squirming in their seats under their sour pusses.
It was nice of the media to identify Rand Paul for being insufficiently enthusiastic in his clapping too.

Well you gotta hand it to the guy in one respect:
He clearly intends to go down in flames.
Lots of people avoid the ‘third rail’
Some of them resent its presence.
Few if any actually embrace it.
Bet the boy didn’t mind, either; that’s about the age to start noticing girls, right?
This right here. Current polling shows Republicans getting killed with suburban women of all ages and statuses.
