When last I wrote about identity politics in Hawaii, the state was moving to censor a cartoon critical of the native Hawaiian secessionist movement strongly backed by Democrat US Sen. Daniel Akaka.

Well, my right-minded friends in Aloha State just sent me an unbelievable piece of news. The shenanigans continue–and the Hawaii GOP is serving as a tool for the liberal quota-pushers and grievance-mongers.

Reader Eric e-mails:

Over this past weekend, Hawaii’s GOP leaders officially-sanctioned a policy whereby its leaders can donate as much as they want to Democrat candidates, arguing that giving thousands of dollars in direct campaign contributions to the likes of Senator Akaka is not as detrimental to Republicans as if these same party leaders were to lick envelopes for Akaka’s campaign.

The back story is that liberal Republican Governor Linda Lingle, working through her minions running the state party, wants to preserve having a key figure from the pro-Akaka Bill, pro-separatist movement (an activist attorney named Bruss Keppeler) on the Hawaii GOP’s platform committee, so he can preserve the party’s current pro-Akaka Bill plank, which other Republicans are trying to change. [after all, since when do Republicans favor creating big, brand new governments, when they’re supposed to favor shrinking gov’t?]

Zero Shibai has the scoop on the GOP turmoil. Here’s an excerpt from a flyer being passed around by rank-and-file Republicans appalled at the sellout. Arnold Toynbee said that “Civilizations die by suicide, not by murder.” The same is apparently true of the Republican Party:
